ACORN, Kanye West and the Hierarchy of Multiculturalism

President Obama was once an ACORN lawyer, so the group is certainly significant enough to warrant media scrutiny. Then how did all the seasoned professionals get scooped by two students–James O’Keefe and Hannah Giles–one of whom isn’t old enough to legally drink?
ACORN’s many problems have been well known for quite a while, at least to anyone venturing beyond network newscasts and liberal blogs. As an organization, ACORN doesn’t just limit itself to churning out forged voter registrations. It’s a full-blown racketeering enterprise worthy of The Sopranos, and it finances its operations with the help of taxpayer money.
So how could the major media fail to hold ACORN to account all these years?
I have my pet theory.
Political correctness has been slowly rotting the establishment media to its core, to the point where few professional journalists would dare launch a serious investigation into the exalted Association of Community Organizers for Reform Now. Why? Simple: according to the tenets of political correctness, the racial makeup of the communities being “organized” automatically confers the presumption of moral superiority upon ACORN. So all those nasty rumors about ACORN must be no more than lies spread by racist propagandists.
To understand the mindset of the politically correct, there are a few rules of racial relations that you need to know. These rules establish the Hierarchy of Multiculturalism:
- If a person is a member of a group guilty of past racial oppression, that person has no moral standing in relation to anyone in any group that’s ever been a victim of that oppression.
- A member of an oppressor group is always assumed to be guilty in relation to a member of a victim group.
- An oppressor can only avoid presumed guilt by making a display of his or her sympathy for the oppressed.
- Members of victim groups can lose their moral standing by expressing a preference for individual rights as opposed to group rights.
- Advocating on behalf of a victim makes one almost as unassailable as being that victim.
- Coming to the defense of an oppressor is even more repugnant than being that oppressor.
This thinking is so common these days that many prominent liberals–from New York Times columnists to former presidents–believe that criticism of President Obama can only be motivated by racial bigotry.
That’s because people at a lower rung of the Multicultural Hierarchy are never allowed to challenge those above them. The purpose of this is to quell criticism and enforce thought conformity. Why break the rules and risk being thought of as a bigot?
Media coverage of Kanye West’s latest outburst at the MTV Video Music Awards illustrates this. Imagine the racial roles reversed:
It’s the Country Music Awards. A black female performer is accepting her first-ever award. She’s happy and a bit surprised; her style of music doesn’t usually win Country Music Awards. Halfway through her emotional acceptance speech, a white male country music singer runs up on stage, grabs the microphone from her, and announces that another woman should have won, a white woman–a “real” country singer–instead of the underdog black woman.
I’d bet my life savings that the reporting would be quite different than what happened in Kanye’s case. Sure, he was roundly criticized in the media, but we’re in an age when hidden motivations are attributed to every interracial interaction, so it’s interesting that few dared to discuss a racial angle to the Kanye West/Taylor Swift confrontation.
There’s a simple explanation. By the rules of the Hierarchy of Multiculturalism, when a member of a victim group is the actual victim in a real-world encounter, it’s an example of oppression. But when an oppressor becomes a victim in real life, that’s just karma, man. Any possible racial angle becomes irrelevant.
So forgive me if I don’t believe that the abundantly Caucasian and overwhelmingly liberal journalist class is capable of taking on a target like ACORN, no matter how apparent the criminality might be.
In the end, though, it doesn’t matter. The work of Giles and O’Keefe highlights the diminishing relevance of the establishment media. Despite the story getting no coverage on broadcast TV or in any major newspaper, it propagated online, then to talk radio and Fox News. And before any “mainstream” media outlet covered it, the political pressure grew to the point that the Census Bureau cut all ties to ACORN, and U.S. Senate voted by the overwhelming margin of 83-7 to cut off the group’s federal funding.
Even after these events, a vast majority of the media ignored the story. And yet the public kept getting the truth, which only made the media appear to be in the business of hiding news rather than reporting it. Realizing that this is not a winning business model for an ailing industry, a few of the more independent-minded reporters started covering the story, and now the White House Press Secretary is busy deflecting questions about the president’s former colleagues and fellow community organizers at ACORN. Despite the media’s best efforts.
James O’Keefe and Hannah Giles represent another massive power-shift in the age of Internet media. The first occurred when the Drudge Report broke Monica Lewinsky’s affair with President Clinton, a story that Newsweek got first but declined to run. The second was when CBS News got hoodwinked by documents that purported to impugn President Bush. After bloggers exposed them as forgeries, the documents ended up tarnishing CBS News instead. Long-time anchor Dan Rather was forced to retire in disgrace.
This is another huge embarrassment for Big Media–not so much because they look foolish, but because they’re beginning to look irrelevant.

The simple answer is. It is highly likely that the high dollars who have invested in media are simply in bed with those on the radical left. I'v searched for other answers, there just aren't any other answers that work. They simply have dollars invested in the success of Obama and the rest of the radical left.

I really don't beleive Kanye West's actions were racailly motivated. He was scheduled to be on the first night of Jay Leno's new TV show. He pulled off a huge publicity stunt the night before that appearance. Walking around chugging out of a Cognac bottle? C'mon…the whole thing was a planned media stunt.

The main-stream media is looking irrelevant, but too many of my colleagues and friends rely on it for their current events. I live in Iowa, in the 3rd largest city and we are JUST now seeing these events in the papers. I have been ranting on at work about sensitive issues for weeks and ALWAYS the response I get is "what?!? are you serious? no way, you'r joking." no knowledge at all. How can you educate people if they are lacadasical about the world and don't bother to look deeper than the most easily accessed reports?
All of these people are living off the government tit. Priority #1 is defunding the liberal hegemony in Arts and Education, and beaking up the Cabal of non-productive educational priorities that these people force up on us. __If Education was functioning as a free market, there would be no value assigned to what these people are doing.
And since Obama has gotten elected, you see many blacks in ths country getting very obnoxiously arrogant and in-your-face. I assume because they know that they are protected because they can cry "race" and get away with it. It's really quite obnoxious. I suspect that if Clarence Thomas would have been elected president, it would be a completely different story., because Clarence is not part of the "pop downtown vulgarity" that Obama and the Democrats thrive on.

This has been a long time coming. My whole life I've been branded a "soft racist"… You know, he's white, doesn't have the rigth mix of friends, speaks down to 'others'… when all I am guilty of is being me! The lefts mantra has always been about inclusion unless of coasre you don't 'agree' with them. I respectfully disagree. This is about race. For years, the race card has been played; it is a veiled attempt by the Militant Left to get their way. Once the race card is played, all critical thought goes out the window, all logical argument and reasoning is abandoned. Thank you for saying that. I'm apalled at the number of people I run into who aren't up to date on what's happening in Washington and how it's imploding! They're finally starting to catch up a little bit on ACORN, but this is SO much bigger than just ACORN, and many people have no clue!
I have been encouraged over the last two weeks by what I have seen published by this website and O'Keefe and Giles. However, remarks like this do nothing constructive. On the contrary, I would argue that most hip-hop artists and young musicians working in the genres of music you mentioned would be offended by your comments and would use it to discredit anything else said on this website.
I'm not asking you to be politically correct, I'm just saying that a little tact by some of my friends on the right would go a long way in winning over the minds of my peers on the left.

The author of the article is 200% correct. Here in Europe the same, we have groups of immigrants, often Muslims that run rackets, going into certain businesses. The paper reports some of this, and often tells us the age of the perpetrators. Constantly hide their ethnicity, and that they are immigrants and colored. If they are white criminals from Eastern Europe, it’s OK.
We had 50 attack rapes in Oslo (600.000), over a period of a few years, all done by immigrants, mostly from Africa and Muslim s countries. Eventfully the police chief went out, a brave lady, and told the aweful truth. There was no Norwegians among them. There is a court case against an Egyptian man, eight rapes, he is married. He was given asylum because he was guy. In the paper they call him “the 42 year old.”
"Journalists and editors" have their own rules saying they should not expose the identity and etnicity of the criminals. Then do not show their face in the papers. If there is crime committed in US they show the face.

Of course the liberal media actively hid stories during the Roosevelt, Truman (to a lesser extent) Kennedy (bigtime), Johnson, Carter and Clinton. The whole campaign finance scandal by Clinton was incredible but totally ignored by the complicit media. The Kennedys got away with incredible activiities with the knowing complicity of their press lackeys.
It is extremely telling also that the leftwing media is collapsing financially but still maintain the same course.
My daughter told me of an exchange she had seen on the View. I didn't ask why she was watching. Apparently there is a black woman other than Whoopi on the show. She was talking about Twitter and referred to her followers as "Twiggas." Elizabeth Hasselbeck then said it sounded like a good term only she said "Twiggers." The black woman then got upset and corrected her that "Twigga" was the only acceptable pronunciation.
I only wish I could have been in that situation to respond, "Do you know how effin stupid you just sounded?" I am just about fed up with the so called "post racial" America that Obama was supposed to have ushered in. But a question for USArmyMom do you think your son or daughter would care about the pigmentation of the skin if someone in there squad was wounded and the rescue team that came in was of a different skin pigmentation? I am happy that your organization did not only release one video of their antics but instead it was a series. If you had released one you would have heard this does not speak for the entire group ACORN. With the amount of these rising clearly the congress should block funding.
You raised another point in your piece above about Obama being a lawyer for ACORN. If i am a lawyer for a corrupt group like this it means I know how they operate. Did this group help OBAMA win in anyway and was it legal or illegally?

They are irrelevant. As long as they continue not reporting what we all know should be reported they will continue to be irrelevant. They are drunk with the progressives Kool Aid, and the moment they decided to newscast the progressive agenda while disregarding all else, they became irrelevant. All sides of issues should be reported, and all breaking news should be headlined, especially those that point to corruption in Washington. That IS the role of media!
Very insightful and well written post. Add too the non-msm reporting on Sen. John Edwards affair and baby! He was a former VP candidate and at the time Presidential Candidate and the MSM refused to even look. The Acorn story killed by the NYT last fall with a whistleblower. There are too many instances where the MSM has killed or ignored stories and the non-internet reading public is unaware and/or disinterested because of no coverage. There is still a long way to go! At least this Acorn sting has legs and is getting attention… but there is much more there and it is sad that most people will come away thinking this is an odd development when in reality it is true to form and always has been for Acorn. I hope more is coming.

Well said Eric. Points out one of the great ironies of our day. The Attorney General was correct when he said we need to have a conversation about race in our country. Unfortunately that requires genuine dialogue, on both sides. And I doubt either is truly willing to do that.
For example, I would support a Serena Williams, not for her conduct the other day, but by a recognition that that night was an aberration. Both she and her sister have always handled themselves in an exemplary manner, They are gracious in victory and defeat. She has earned, if not a pass, at least a benefit of a doubt, in a way that a Kanye West would never understand. But I believe that there are those on both sides who would dismiss any attempt to distinguish between them, and then brand me a "sell out" or a "racist" for attempting to do so.
As to music, I too find much of the lyrics to be vile and offensive. But this too is not strictly a racial issue. There are white artist who spew the same obscenities. But I think it is clear that at least the "hip-hop" genre is dominated by black artists. So I ask, do they ever consider the message contained within their songs?

The way these inner-city areas are, crime is so rampant they should be declared disaster areas and the National Guard should be sent in to restore order. The rule of law is openly mocked, police are routinely thwarted by those not helping in their investigations, not even reporting incidents, there are areas even cops fear to enter. What about thier racist methods? Have you ever turned on the comedy channel and listened to any black comics? The europeans have it even worse than we do. The one thing America USED to do that is different from the european immigration is that immigrants to america assimilated. Today in Europe they are essentially carving out their own unique cultural communities and not only NOT assimilating, they are actively trying to move the laws and cultures of their host nation away from the pre-existing traditional culture. Europe will adopt Sharia Law soon if not already. I have always wondered why everyone is tolerant of the demands of Islam yet critical of christianity. Is it intimidation because christians don't throw riots when their faith is ridiculed, or cut the heads off non-believers? Europe will no longer be Europe in as little as ten years. The French are likely to be the first with an Imam as their leader.

I agree with you about the arrogance . A friend of mine had an encounter with some people of color while they, the people of color , were fishing near her sons house , on her land , in her pond . She ask them to go back across the pond and fish . They told her that obama was in there now and they would fish anywhere they F@$kin wanted to . There are many blacks who AREN'T happy with Obama, too. At least one of my co-workers, black, did not vote for him and was appalled at his anointment. Of course these will never be reported in the old dead news.
Actually I don't see many blacks doing much different, maybe you are noticing them more. But what I see is a great deal of false insulting accusations of RACIST. But oddly I think that comes from whites more than blacks. Which I think is probably the whistle call to let certain people know "who is on their side".
At any rate I doubt Americans will re-elect a President who allows no criticism. Would any generation of Americans imagine a time when criticism of a President was stifled like it is today? The majority are not involved in bad behaviour, and as stated in Rule #4 above, blacks that espouse individual liberty/responsiblity are just as villified as whites if not more so.
When I was in college for the first time (in the late 80's) I attended some sort of a workshop intended to help people become more sensitive and understanding of racial issues. In that workshop, a view of the world was put forth in which it was claimed that simply by the fact that I am white, and for no other reason–I must be racist. People of color cannot–by the mere fact that they are not white–possibly be racist. The way a person behaves in real life has nothing to do with it, you see. Some of us are born racist and some are born incapable of racism, simply because of the color of our skin.
Of course, I vehemently disagreed with this absurd point of view and was shocked because I had never encountered this before. It was insulting and irrational–degrading to the authentic dignity of every human person.
Evey individual human being is responsible for his or her freely chosen actions. The color of our skin alone cannot make us immune from being blameworthy of a certain category unjust actions, for this does not force our wills.
The large majority of elite media seem to be duped by the above sort of irrational approach. They don't seem any longer to understand that every human person has free will, that each of us is personally responsible for our own acts, and that the pigments in our skin (or lack thereof) do not have power over the authentic freedom of our human wills.
