Healthcare Reform? Promises…Promises
by Dr. Elaina GeorgeNow that elections are around the corner members of Congress who voted for the healthcare reform bill are spending a lot of time back-peddling, avoiding the topic all together or digging themselves in a deeper hole by claiming that Americans will have better healthcare with choice of doctors, and expanded coverage at an affordable price.
Let’s look at the facts:
- The bill was written by and for Big Pharma and the medical insurance industry. Senator Max Baucus a member of the congressional brain trust who brought us the healthcare reform bill admitted he never fully read it and has no idea what is even in it. Now he admits to having no clue what was in the bill he helped shove down our throats…. Unbelievable? Surprising? No just business as usual.
- Those on Medicare were told that they would see no change in their benefits and would be able to keep their physician. In fact, 11 million senior citizens will see premiums go up because of cost cutting including the removal of Medicare advantage. Furthermore, since there has been a decline in the number of physicians who currently are accepting new Medicare patients or who take Medicare at all, it is likely that seniors will not be able to keep their doctor and will pay more for less.
- The nomination of Donald Berwick to head CMS means a philosophical shift of our healthcare system to the British model of medicine that puts a premium on cost and not the needs of the individual. An example of this is the decision by the FDA remove Avastin from the medication available to treat advanced cancer because it is deemed that the good of extension of life is outweighed by the cost of the medication. Medicare has already stopped covering the use for Avastin to treat ovarian cancer in Colorado.
It is clear that the relentless drive to reform the health care system was a cynical political push for a win at all costs. We were told what we wanted to hear and there was no attention paid to the consequences. Every single card was played – from the class card to the race card, and getting us to fight among ourselves achieved the goal of distraction. Now that the smoke has cleared it is pretty obvious that in the name of expanding healthcare to approximately 30 million more people, we have sacrificed what is best about our healthcare system – individualized patient care, the doctor patient relationship, and the drive towards innovation. However, the costs have not changed.
Welcome to the world of one size fits all medicine where the patient will become a cost center and treatment will be geared towards cost containment while the potential for profits to be made on the backs of patients and doctors for the medical insurance industry, the hospitals and Big pharma are limitless.

Gretta interviewed the Virgina AG last evening, and he said if the mandate is thrown out this whole law goes down. Something about the way the law was written if any piece of the law is considered unconstitutional then the whole law is thrown out, there is no alternative or no path for the remainder of the pieces to remain separate.
Not a very well written explanation but the transcript to On the Record didn't have this interview., this is significant news.

I saw parts of that. I think all eyes will be on Va. and lets hope we win, so other States can follow. Because if not we're stuck with this mess and there will be no getting out of it.

I have a brother in law who is an attorney in Mexico (Tijuana, B.C.) who needed acute care for a failing liver.
In Mexico (socialized medicine) the wait time for a CAT/MRI scan…..4 months.
A simple car trip across the border to San Diego….18 hours later he had his MRI, blood work completed with a full diagnosis and prognosis to follow within the week.

I have been against it since day one and got notice my personal ins. policy, pay for it all out of my own pocket as I am unemployed, is going up $30 a month… The new law is cited as one of the reasons for the increase. It occurs to me that you one of your major malfunctions in life is that you were not raised as an American. You were raised as Anti-American. How to Behave and Why by Muro Leaf was the story among others that were read to me in order to instill some sense of a moral compass. The book is broken into five parts that discuss the following words: HONEST, FAIR, STRONG, WISE and finally a discussion of why all of this is so important to leading a good life. That is, if all of us aspire to those standards peace and comity would the norm, and strife and struggle would be the exception, and further we all would create excess capacity to help those souls who legitimately require our compassion. Being that you lie with such mellifluous ease one example from the book I think you can benefit from immediately is the discussion on lying; “Only a dope would tell a lie. One of the quickest ways to lose your friends(voters?) and to make people dislike you is to lie.”
Maybe if you started to tell the truth your poll numbers would start going up?
In closing you might consider buying a copy and reading it to your children, maybe some of it will rub off on you. Considering the lies you told during your speech in a Wisconsin battery factory you could certainly use a refresher course on the truth. You know what Mr. Obama, it is one thing to lie to your “believers” it is quite another to play your tune to families that are relying on the truth to feed, and protect their families.
That is wrong, and I will not stand for it, nor will my fellow citizens on November 2, 2010.

The whole debacle was obviously never about Healthcare. They only purpose is a slide to mediocrity (or worse) while providing more free stuff for those unwilling to work and provide for themselves. The safety net was basically there to cover those unable to provide for themselves. This is a massive growth of bona fide government control of more of the economy providing government make busy work and re-distribution of the wealth.
This probably would not see the light of day, due to all of the big players with tons of money at stake, but here is my position on this health care debate:
The Health Care Fix
1) Consumers: When you remove the consumer from knowing exactly what something costs, it always goes up (law of economics). This would be no different than if you had insurance for food and you never saw the cost. Your premiums would go up, your deductible for food would go up because it would not really matter what all of the food costs to the insurance company, because they can just raise your fees. I say, if we are to have coverage, we look at health care savings accounts, combine this with a catastrophic care plan. In the beginning of "health care" plans, that's what insurance companies offered. It wasn't until congress got involved where they started mandating doctors’ visits be covered, then HMO plans were started by congressional passed laws and the rest is history.
2) Government: Government directly controls 46% of national health spending. Through laws and regulation and fees are constantly on the rise. Government is not about fixing things. It is about controlling and raising revenue to add more government. Medicaid and Medicare are underfunded and that cost is picked up by you and me through higher health care costs. These two plans are filled with corruption and abuse. obama says he plans to cut out $5 billion in waste due to this—WHAT’S STOPPING YOU! GO AHEAD AND DO IT THEN!
3) Insurance: whether it’s private, or public, insurance is just a big giant ponzie scheme. You pay a middle man organization some money every month (insurance company). They pay a doctor a monthly annuity every month and that forces you to beg for health care and pay deductibles and co-pay’s. The insurance company remains profitable and you and I pay the price. When government entered the disaster insurance business (floods, tornado's, etc) they put the private insurance plans out of business. Having them enter the health insurance vertical will do the same here. Only government can offer something at a loss because it is YOU AND ME, HARD WORKING, TAX PAYING RESPONSIBLE AMERICANS–JUST LIKE YOU AND ME THAT ALWAYS GET STRAPPED WITH THE BILL.
4) Lawsuits: High malpractice insurance rates driven up by opportunist lawyers looking for frivolous lawsuits is a major reason why health care is so costly. It simply drives up the cost of doing business. Tort reform is needed, but they have paid off your politicians.
5) Backwards Care: Treating the symptoms versus treating the root cause has our health care’s tail, wagging its dog. There is no money to be made in prevention. (it’s always about the money with everything)
Simply covering more people with more insurance does not address the true cost of health care. With government run health care (compassion of the IRS and the efficiency of the Post office) these problems listed above would still exist. And we have already seen evidence of it since the passage!

Be, and stay healthy. Exercise. Eat right. Reduce stress. Watch alcohol intake. Get lots of sun and fresh air. Swim whenever possible. Lots of Omega 3's. Mix aloe vera juice, carrot juice and pink grapefruit juice and drink it EVERY morning. Keep red meat to a minimum.

The AG said the law that was passed was never meant to become law, Scott Brown was elected and it had to be passed as written, the usual protections that would have kept pieces of the law in force were never written into it because after Brown it could be filibustered if changes where made.
He gave another possibility for the law missing the usual language, I forget what it was, but either way the law is thrown out entirely if any part is unconstitutional.

I believe that the Apollo Alliance wrote the bill. There was some legislative sidling and scripting but the bulk of the bill was written by other than our paid legislators. This is why they didn't even know what was in it. But hurried to get it passed.
If George Washington had said "You have to pass the bill to see whats in side it" they would have run him out of Philly! So lets be all old school and run Nancy and Co. out of D.C. The next congress can just not fund it and we can deal with the repeal in 2012.

First it was to cover the uninsured (which this doesn't completely do), then it was to reduce costs (this increases costs), Pelosi said it was to create jobs (jobs will be lost as re-imbursements go down), etc. It boils down to this. They wanted to take it over to control a giant section of the economy. Period. Now you won't see MD's, costs will sky rocket, waits will be astronomical, and people will be denied treatments routinely.
Even if people don't understand the health care issue, they should understand that when Congress voted to EXCLUDE themselves three times (!!), that it CAN'T be good for US! Seriously, how dumb are the people who support this.

Dear President Obama,
I’d like to tell you a story. As a boy I walked into my fathers office with a book. It really isn’t a book per se it is more like a tome – in the old days the Encyclopedia Britannica would include a set of books called the “Book of the Year.” Anyway, I’ve got this book and in it are the statistics and subjects that cover the milestones in the given year. The year in question is 1979. So there I am, some time in 1995 in my old mans office with this massive book cracked open, and I pose a question: “Dad, Why didn’t you invest all your money in the Dow Jones Industrial Average in 1979?” My father looked over the nose of his bi-focal glasses, and simply said “You and your sister needed to eat.”
Well I was not gonna take that for an answer. I mean for crying out loud, do you have any idea how much money we would have made if you had just done that! What could have been easier? Just take a little of your paycheck and invest it or live cheaper and we could have an awful lot of money now! My old man took this enthusiasm as an opportunity to give me a lesson in economics and money management, actually Mr. Obama had you been present for that lecture, hundreds of millions of Americans would have more than a fair shot at prosperity now.
Back to the lecture. So the Oldman asked me for the book. Dad pointed to the table on interest rates for the time, and the asked me a question “Joe(my name’s not Joe, but lets just call me Joe) If I told you that the US Government would give you a guaranteed return of 10% or you could risk your entire nut in the stock market what would you do?” My answer was “No way pop. I’m not going to take that bet.” Then I pressed him further, “Why didn’t you buy those bonds and make 10% for 30 years?” Then he launched into the concepts of inflation and price controls and disposable income and all the rest. By the end of it I said simply. I get it. “We needed to eat.” Then he gave me the save for a rainy day lecture, and why that is the breeding ground for success as well as survival, he called it “insulation from poverty,” and how to save through diversification and how to use debt wisely.
So fast forward to August of 2008. The old man calls me up “Joe, 50% chance of rain.” He was talking about you Mr. Obama, you are the rain. But, I had prepared for your socialist redistributive economic philosophy, while preparing for the usual financial setbacks. Actually I noticed that a whole lot of people began to go into a similar mode of anticipatory economic survival. Companies shed workers to protect capital, operations in Union friendly states began to diversify in “Right to Work States” or out of the country entirely. The job losses mounted and mounted and you and other Democrats took this as a golden opportunity to win an election, because Americans often work under the false assumption the government can cure what ever ails them, so they went Big Government, they went for you Mr. Obama, and they regret that choice.
Now, if you had been in that office with my father and me, you would have known exactly what to do. Alas this was not so, you reached for the Federal Credit Card, and man you spent, and spent, and spent, and now you are a failed CEO millions of employees, trillions in debt, trillions in deficit, and all you can talk about is some poor broad who you canned on the bases of ten minute snippet taken out of context, right before you go on your one hundredth vacation or play your next golf game.
This isn’t even funny anymore, this is a disaster.

Yup, Robert Creamer wrote the book while in prison.
Creamer resigned from Citizen Action/Illinois after the FBI began investigating him for bank fraud and tax evasion at Illinois Public Action. He was convicted in 2006 and sentenced to five months in federal prison in Terre Haute, Indiana, plus eleven months of house arrest.
While in prison—or “forced sabbatical,” he called it—Creamer wrote a lengthy political manual, Listen to Your Mother: Stand Up Straight! How Progressives Can Win (Seven Locks Press, 2007).
The book was endorsed by leading Democrats and their allies, including SEIU boss Andy Stern—the most frequent visitor thus far to the Obama White House—and chief Obama strategist David Axelrod, who noted that Creamer’s tome “provides a blueprint for future victories.”
In the book, Creamer draws lessons from decades of experience on the radical left, including the teachings of arch-radical Saul Alinsky, and several episodes from Rep. Schakowsky’s political career. He also lays out a “Progressive Agenda for Structural Change,” which includes a ten-point plan for foisting universal health care on the American people in 2009:
* “We must create a national consensus that health care is a right, not a commodity; and that government must guarantee that right.”
* “We must create a national consensus that the health care system is in crisis.”
* “Our messaging program over the next two years should focus heavily on reducing the credibility of the health insurance industry and focusing on the failure of private health insurance.”
* “We need to systematically forge relationships with large sectors of the business/employer community.”
* “We need to convince political leaders that they owe their elections, at least in part, to the groundswell of support of [sic] universal health care, and that they face political peril if they fail to deliver on universal health care in 2009.”
* “We need not agree in advance on the components of a plan, but we must foster a process that can ultimately yield consensus.”
* “Over the next two years, we must design and organize a massive national field program.”
* “We must focus especially on the mobilization of the labor movement and the faith community.”
* “We must systematically leverage the connections and resources of a massive array of institutions and organizations of all types.”
* “To be successful, we must put in place commitments for hundreds of millions of dollars to be used to finance paid communications and mobilization once the battle is joined.”

Obama's last Physical …his doctor told him to back off on the alcohol. There is only 1 way I know of for a doctor to know that one is consuming too much alcohol …a sonogram of one's liver. A fatty liver is a result of drinking too much. Wonder if Obama ever needs a liver transplant …and as a smoker, will he get it? His new Health Care CZAR would say NO.

I am wondering how Obama is going to get the one doctor in each community that "must" give end-of-life counseling to Senior Citizens, those with high cost diseases, premature babies, mental health patients, invalids, car accident victims, and anyone else that ends up with a health problem and/or injuries requiring continued operations and treatment over a long period of time. Anyone whom requires much more than check ups and generic medications will find themselves forced into planning for the end of their lives. End-of-life will come as a result of denial of care and medications deemed too expensive when compared to your estimated value to society. That means you'll have to suffer and die at home, either alone or as a burden to family. The only relief you can expect is pain medication (the cheapest, of course) to ease the discomfort while you are terminating.
Laws have already been changed and will probably be made to cover a larger segment of our citizens that will require that when you die the government gets your estate not your heirs. Starting January 1, 2011, when an estate is of a certain size, the government will be getting fifty percent of it. It probably won't take long for them to get it all from everyone. Remember, Socialist/Communists don't believe in personal property ownership. Only the government can own property, all of it.
Have you all bought guns and ammo for you and every family member? Be sure everyone knows how to use their weapon well and safely. Regular target shooting will help. I just read that somewhere in CA they have "gotten" citizens to turn in their guns. I don't know how they pulled that off but it stinks. Remember, "citizens without guns are slaves."

Actually the costs have changed. They are going up, when Obama and the Democrat leadership promised that they would go down, and that the bill would pay for itself in savings by eliminating waste and fraud. If I bought into that story you could sell me some oceanfront property in Kansas without me even having to be bothered by looking at it first!
I would be very upset if Conservatives swept the Nov. elections then completely ignored all the great counter-ideas they had during the debate before this monstrosity was passed. I will be the first to grab my torch and pitchfork and march. America definitely needs change. That change needs to come by respecting the genius of our founding fathers and keeping government (right or left) out of our friggin businesses and homes.
Its not just the elderly who are losing their healthcare. I am 48, have stage 4 breast cancer and have been on avastin since June 2008. At first I was on it with 2 chemos and it obliterated the cancer. After having part of my lung removed, I followed up with more avastin and have been on it alone ever since. I have been without any tumors for 2 1/2 years. I have many friends with metastatic breast cancer that are also on this drug and for many of us, it is the only drug we have available to us right now. Without FDA approval those on medicare and even those of us with private insurance will not have coverage which means NO MEDICATION. I don't think it should be up to the FDA to decide how many months is enough to extend our lives on medications that are working even if they are expensive.
We started a petition to help the FDA hear from the many of us who are thriving on this drug, well past the few months that they say it will keep us alive. We have over 5,600 signatures.

It's more of a case to 'not to fund it'. Remember, unless there is a earthshaking turnaround in Novermber, Obama can still veto. But that doesn't mean were done for. We just don't fund it. Defund the whole health care mess before it goes out of control. Then in 2012, we take the bull by the horns.
Great article Dr. George, but costs have changed. The most recent government actuarial estimates show that by 2020 citizens will be paying more, specifically .2% more each year for the next ten years and the plan is not even 6 months old yet or fully implemented!
In other words the fit has not yet hit the shan!
