ACORN Got Over $200K of PA Taxpayer Money…Probably Getting More!
by Matthew Brouillette
Rep. Babette Josephs, Chair of PA House State Government Committee & ACORN Member
Despite receiving a “cease and desist” notice from the Department of State to stop soliciting contributions, Pennsylvania taxpayers have given ACORN over $200,000 in state grants since November 2007. Yet none of the mainstream media in the Commonwealth is bothering to cover this issue. Nor has it reported on recent efforts to defend this rogue organization.
Jeff Lord, writing in The American Spectator, noted how Rep. Steve Barrar’s efforts to investigate ACORN’s activities in Pennsylvania are being stymied by Rep. Babette Josephs—a self-identified member of ACORN. Josephs is the Chair of the House State Government Committee—the committee where good government legislation goes to die.
Nate Benefield of the Commonwealth Foundation wrote about her blocking reform bills in May 2008, calling her the Cerberus of the Pennsylvania General Assembly. Cerberus is the giant three-headed dog in Greek Mythology that guards the river Styx, allowing the dead to enter Hades, but preventing anyone—save a few legendary heroes—from exiting. Josephs is that guard-dog that allows all types of substantive and good-government legislative proposals—like Barrar’s—but never again allows them to see the light of day.
Earlier this week, with the vote to de-fund ACORN in the US Senate and the Census severing ties with the organization, one would think such actions in Harrisburg would yield similar success. Not so. Barrar, in an effort to circumvent Cerberus, attempted to suspend House rules to amend a bill that would prevent taxpayer money from flowing to this nefarious group. But House Democrats, holding a slim majority, stood shoulder to shoulder with Cerberus to thwart Barrar’s efforts.
Haven’t heard about this? Unfortunately, neither have the people of Pennsylvania who continue to be forced to subsidize Babette Josephs’s organization.
Now, with a budget deal apparently and finally in place—Pennsylvania was the last state without a budget—maybe the media will finally get around to asking where all our money is going.

I am getting the feeling that ACORN, and the Democrats that support it are so corrupt, that they are unable to see it.
Seriously…how can they defend their actions, especially to the taxpayers of PA?
This is just disgraceful. Why in the hell would any state or anyone defend this criminal organization, especially after the tapes that Hannan Giles shot.
Another problem, the Working Families party in the North East, an ACORN backed radical-left wing party, with deep associations with ACORN. In the special congressional election in Upstate New York, the Republican In Name Only, has been endorsed by the ACORN backed party several times before, which is just disgraceful.
http://jumpinginpools.blogspot.com/2009/09/let-campaign-begin.html
Thats why I support Conservative Republican Doug Hoffman in that election. Just disgraceful to pick a Republican who has been endorsed by the ACORN backed radical-leftist party.
They all work for me if they do not want to be INVESTIGATED they won't piss me off like Joe did or FOX.
Someone should go get her on camera asking her questions…
and then release the Philly video… and it better be released… cause twice it has been claimed by people in the know that they found corruption at every ACORN office…if those people were lying then this project is in trouble…
Would you like to borrow O'Keefe and Giles for a day?
Play a little high-stakes poker…tell that larva Josephs that our dynamic duo has a ACORN film of PA offices toeing the "tax evasion" line. Offer to play it in front of the assembly, or you'll play it live on Beck…
I think that they are giving there money to acorn so they can start setting up the Democrats for election time we are ready have on person who was picked to run for president a democrat. If you notice that the people in the white house pick the people to run for president, govern, sentior. And those people are who we vote for. It's not the people choice it's the government choice of people. So,they know who will get in. They have the power, money, greed.
Rep. Babette Josephs is a political hack and must go. These corrupt people in all of the government, local, state and fed, have to be weeded out and remoced from office. Us taxpayers must start doing the medias job of vetting those seeking public office because the media will not do the job they are trusted with.
Pennsylvania? Fast Eddie Rendell and the PA Political machine? They run a close second to Chicago when it comes to corrupt politics…..
"..Rep. Babette Josephs—a self-identified member of ACORN."
Seems like a conflict of interest. I wonder how many other government senators and members of congress belong to ACORN, SEIU, etc…?
There's lot's of material to work with for up and coming journalist's.
ACORN = "Pirates of the Political Scene." A Cease and desist order, just like every other legal constraint by which the rest of us abide, is merely a "guideline," not something to be taken all that seriously. They appear to believe that their allegedly noble ends are justified by any means. Lawlessness funded by our hard-earned tax dollars (and by future tax dollars yet to be earned by my grandchildren).
One wonders why Governor Rendell hasn't stood up against this action, or why he hasn't insisted on an investigation of Acorn like other governors have.
Oh wait……
Am I the only one who thinks the numbers being thrown around for how much public money went to ACORN are probably very low and not representative of the truth.
Also, how about an audit so we can see just how "non-partisan" this non-profit organization really is?
Remind the elected that they serve at our pleasure, not theirs. Remind them that legislating is a temp job.
Do I smell a Philadelphia video coming?
Just another example of gov, corruption. A little here a little there, tons over here. It goes on and on. Now the left wonders why we are mobsters. Its our freaking money.
Anyone in the House or Senate not joining Glenns list of whistle blowers should be voted out when the time comes.
JT – they CAN see it, they just dont want YOU to see it. They need to boot Babette out of office and do an investigation of her and her activities. Seems to me, to be a conflict of interest.
They only print those big red ACORN t-shirts in XL and XXL. I'm thinking that Babette orders the XXL, and the dog-collar, of course.
From my nascent understanding of ACORN, they gain a good portion of their funding from the state and local levels; I'd like to see more reporting on this angle. Quite a tangled web.
Breaking News!
While the legitimate news, FOX, Brietbart, Biggovernment are discussing this, MSNBC is really breaking some news and they are on the attack. Attacking who? John Edwards………….
Apparently they need a new body to throw under their bus. Funny, they eat their own………..
I lived in Josephs' Center City district when she was first elected. I wish I saved her campaign brochure – it basically said "vote for me if you hate men!"
It would be interesting to know if those Black Panthers in Philly that Holder won't prosecute for voter intimidation were working for or members of ACORN??? Somebody needs to look into that.
I often wondered that about those t-shirts. I find it odd I never saw on that was small, or even petite They look like regular sized stop signs from a distance……….
Woo Hoo! Matthew…..fellow Pennsylvanian here and I say we take 'em down!!!!
So the smorgasbord is beginning? I can't wait until they plate up Nancy, Babs, Harry, Charlie, and Chuck. A virtual liberal feast!
Au revoir Babette. Parting is such sweet sorrow.
The ACORN is sinking. Why are all these politicos going down with the ship?
I am absolutely convinced that Pennsylvania is a conservative state, regardless of their voting record. There are way too many good people up there that are being taken advantage of.
Because all they know is maintaining the status quo.
THE question that all the revelations re Acorn bring up is: CAN THE REVULSION OVER THE CRIMINALITY OF ACORN BE LEVERAGED INTO LAWS THAT REQUIRE VOTER IDENTIFICATION AND CITIZENSHIP AT VOTING POLLS??? Acorn has been shown to have registered a huge number of fraudulent "voters", and of course the Dems have adamantly resisted allowing any proof of identity and citizenship of voters. Can the present outrage be turned into a demand that voters bring proof of identity and citizenship?
Acorn is just the tip of the iceberg. The whole corrupt socialist structure outlined by Glenn Beck will come crashing down around this discredited administration. The result will be many Dems swept out of office in 2010 and 2012.
Keep up the pressure! Keep busting them up! Kill this corruption and take it back in 2010!
Test Note
Fellow Pennsylvanian here as well. Considering where Rendell came from, it's no surprise that he's completely in on the ACORN taxpayer, trough-feeding that goes on in Philadelphia.
We are NO DOUBT a conservative state (hell, just look at our arms policy). Spendell has a record of increasing the budget (by means of higher percentage taxes) EVERY YEAR and has NEVER been on time with a budget. When Ridge was a governor, he was known to have the budget done in April and May and the latest. We're at 90 days now (3 months) without a budget because this piece of garbage refuses to sign anything unless it has massive tax increases so he can funnel more money into a failed Philadelphia and S**tsburgh.
How does someone get a comment to post here????? I keep getting a message that my comment will have to be approved by the administrator. But nothing ever happens after that.
They do show up eventually Mike
Yes Mifouf, that has been the problem.
Any place you go, you either need a State Drivers license or State ID, especially if you are stopped by the police.
The problem is Illegals now have these documents.
But not requiring proof of who you are when Voting is redicules.
sometimes you have to clear out your browsing history in Internet explorer. It depends how busy they are screening.
Probably shouldn't post this here, but since there is no page yet for Nancy Pelosi, and this pertains to ACORN, I'll post it. This is all about ACORN; all ACORN, all the time, yet ACORN is simply the tip of the iceberg. One of ACORNS stated missions is to raise the wage standard for poor income people, get it up to minimum wage. It is about time Brietbart delve into Madame Pelosi's business ventures. There are about 700 vineyards and wineries in the Napa Valley. All but four pay minimum wage to their farm workers. Of the four that don't, one is owned by Madame Pelosi. Furthermore, she employees illegal migrants and child labor. Anyone who uses child labor, would certainly condone child prostitution. I can see her rationale though: well at least they are working……….!
http://www.tomflocco.com/fs/HouseLeaderJoins.htm
Another good article on Pelosi's illegalities.
http://www.saipantribune.com/newsstory.aspx?cat=1...
I have a question; if she supports this socialist behavior, supports spreading the wealth, then we could all gather at her vineyards. Turn it into the first collective farm. That would be a good site for the next Teaparty, Pelosi Vineyards, Napa Valley, Kalifornia………
If that kind of money is being spent by the states then might I suggest that they quit giving it to ACORN and support groups like the Salvation Army or the American Red Cross? ACORN is a political organization that leans to the left. Imagine the uproar if a political organization that leaned to the right was getting taxpayer dollars?
Once they starts opening the books we will probably see the interwoven connection among Acorn leaders and democrats and how they stir money to benefit them. The poor people is only props. I would not be surprise if Aunt Bertha is on a mission to shred all the evidences of shenannigans and change their name. Obama signing into law banning Acorn will only for a show to pacify activists. Then business as usual continues, the main objective is to loot , rule and destroy America.
Obama is in favor of MORE BAIL OUT money for newspapers! Of course he is…they are HIS LIBERAL PRESS! He needs them in order to win!
Maybe "comfortable with their corruption" would be a better way of saying it.
Like a criminal that has robbed so many times, they don't see it as wrong anymore. Just another day at the office.
Watching MSNBC's Dylan Mattigan talking about the ACORN story — Mike Allen of Politico says he was sent Minutes of an ACORN meeting, but the story is over — he and Dylan agreed it's time to 'move on.'
Murtha's re-election speaks volumes regarding the state of politics in Pa. Corrupt to the core.
ACORN got one hell of a lot more than $200K since fast Eddie took over (actually, Tom Ridge gave them money too). I am a just retired PA Civil Service worker, and the connections between ACORN and its convoluted but totally crooked linked activities/partisan political work is the real reason for ACORN's dings from the Department of State. The actions really should have been criminal investigation by the Atty Gen or RICO by the Feds.
Breitbart, I think the real reason the ACORN Philly office reported your guys was they suspected, from past investigations, that you were us staties and acted to dodge the bullet. ACORN in PA has ripped off the banks/charities/state programs and has done mortgage/taxes work exactlly the way their other offices described.
if you beleive that maybe you can join them, MSNBC and others like them can move on off the air, they do not give you news.
Yeah, pretty much. Not only that, but they voted down the bill to stop funding Murtha's personal airport to Washington, D.C. (millions of dollars).
Birds of a crooked feather, flock to the democrat party.
Yes, Cowboy Logic, it IS a close second. I could tell you guys things … being that I live and vote in northeastern PA. The casinos were legalized a couple years back, with the promise that their *astronomical tax rate* would reduce property and school taxes. Now it's 2009, and we've seen no funds from the casino do anything but line the pockets of the poli-mafia in Philly, while property taxes are rising *astronomically.*
They had the right adjective, it was just applied to the wrong part of the story, those weasels.
I just joined Club GOP in Wilkes-Barre today. I'm taking the fight to the Dems front door.
THAT would be awesome! Especially after Bertha's fringe media shows … LOL and the girl supposedly from the Philly office swearing they called police and posted a police report that left, let's say, a few more questions than answers. Catch them in a bald-faced lie!
Naw. They're parading Edwards' head on a pike because they can pretend to be "bi-partisan" while doing no harm to to a political corpse.
Mind you, they wouldn't *touch* the story when it was actually news.
However, that is the *policy* the Holder DOJ is enforcing against all states subject to the Voting Rights Act. Remember, Obama sued (on behalf of AXCORN) to impose motor-voter on Illinois- wh=ith state officials instructd *not* to ask for ID or proof of citizenship.
Has it occurred to anyone here that it isn't necessarily the "voters" of PA that are returning the useless scoundrels to office election after election?
When Barletta ran against Kanjorski for the seat in the House, at least 2 counties had "voter improprieties," one of which (Monroe County) had more votes than actual registered voters.
This information was brought to Mayor Barletta's attention by a poll watcher from Monroe County. Lou declined to act on it, presumably because if he tried to prove it or filed suit against the results, it would have created 'bad blood' for any potential future political endeavors.

They haven't had to defend their actions to PA taxpayers. PA taxpayers don't know what's happening to them. It's a BIG corrupt secret.
No one has been able to explain yet how a non-binding resolution in Josephs' committee is stopping the AG from opening an investigation. Barrar's amendment was substantive, but the resolution in House State Government is meaningless. So the real question you should be asking is, why is Attorney General Tom Corbett (R) stalling on an investigation of ACORN?
If we could just get FORD Motors to get rid fo the UNION – man that would be great !!! The people would back you Ford if your listening !!!!!
ROBERT CASEY of PA: One of the 7 in the Senate who VOTED AGAINST STOPPING ACORN'S HOUSING $$. Remember – 83 Senators voted to cut it off! Casey wanted the $$ to keep flowing.
CASEY will also vote yes on Cap and Trade, he voted yes on the stimuloss bill and he will vote yes on health care.
TIME TO VOTE CASEY OUT!!!
Ah heck yes, that is not really an issue. But every big election it is the same thing, all the rest of PA has to cancel out and overcome the welfare havens of Philly and Harrisburg/York. Even Wilkes Barre/Scranton leans right.
Of course, I still cannot believe so many did not know what to expect when they elected an ex-mayor of Philly for governor. For a real long time now, former Democratic Philly mayors have come in two flavors, those convicted and those with not yet enough evidence against them.
The Dems in PA are looking at all the money from Obama to Acorn coming through PA the only state willing to fund Acorn. Can you say payoff. Eddie will have his hands in this too. Eddie will gamble with this money and increase the amount of money given to Acorn with PA taxpayers money. That is why Fast Edie wants to increase our personal income tax to help Fund/payoff Acorn.
ID uses a screwed-up word filtering, it grabs blocked words found within other words. Currently it blocks "Cialis," the drug, thus it also grabs "socialist" as well. If you look carefully, you may notice I put the "a" in italics, standard HTML formatting, to "break up" the word so the automatic filter does not catch it.
Currently your choices are to not use the "S-word," misspell it somehow, use formatting, or wait and pray…
MS Gov. Haley Barbour has issued an executive order ending any state funding given to the Association of Community Organization for Reform Now, known as ACORN. More …

Still no answer, ay, Matt? That's what I thought.
