FEMA Grant to ACORN is Offensive
by Sen. David Vitter (R-LA)Earlier this month and despite the public scrutiny over the voter fraud and felony criminal activity associated with ACORN, the Department of Homeland Security went ahead and granted $997,402 to ACORN under the FY 2008 Fire Prevention and Safety Program.
To most people, the timing and the amount of the grant would seem off base, but when you take into account the fact that DHS awarded ACORN–an organization with no clear expertise in fire safety and prevention–a fire prevention and safety grant, it’s just plain offensive.
With fire departments all over Louisiana – and the rest of the country – struggling to make ends meet and get the equipment and training they need to protect their local communities, the idea of a million dollar grant going to ACORN is unsettling, to say the least.
I’ve had grave reservations about ACORN for some time, and over the past year we’ve seen numerous examples of serious allegations of wrongdoing on the part of this organization and its employees across the country. I simply can’t see the logic behind diverting much needed funding from worthy fire departments to this organization.
So last week, I wrote a letter to Secretary of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano requesting that she rescind this grant from ACORN. As of today, the Secretary has not responded to my request. This site will post a copy of the letter for you to read and see for yourself.
Rest assured, I’ll keep working to help prevent further ACORN schemes to procure federal money.

The approx 1 miilion dollars to ACORN is absolutely absurd, and unwarranted, because the amount of money spent to date for Katrina has been enormous… and most of which not fully understood. Interesting, and alarming………
How do a bunch of "community organizers" suddenly become "fire safety and hazard experts"? No doubt this is another cool million of our tax dollars that these scumbags will someway manage to divert into the Democratic Party political engines, to help further the liberal and socialist agenda of the far-left fringe. Fortunately, ACORN is now in the crosshairs of conservative politicians, even many on the left are dropping them like a hot potato. By 2012, ACORN hopefully will be on life support, with their fate hanging in the balance by a "death panel" from a Republican-controlled Congress!

Based on what we've seen on candid cameras, they're likely to use the money to train folks how to burn their homes and profit from the insurance proceeds. BTW, WTF does fire prevention have to do with Homeland Security?

I see that CREW is bringing up the case of prostitution from a year ago as punishment for your taking a stand against ACORN in the recent scandal. I understand that CREW styles itself as a non-partisan citizen-watchdog group but is really just another leftist hate machine that targets conservatives and Republicans. I can only encourage you to stand strong, because the vote against ACORN and against the Health-Care Reform Bill are very important to the people who put you into office. The divide-and-conquer tactics that CREW is trying to use won't work because now too many ordinary citizens are beginning to understand the relationships of the spiderweb that the left has spun.

You can help shut ACORN down. There will be local ACORN offices in your state. Just google ACORN and your state name. I live in MIssissippi and we are researching what local, state, and non-profit agencies are giving money to ACORN. We had to file a freedom of information act request which was denied, so now we have to go to court. Once we get the list we are going to mount a very vocal, very visible campaign to get ALL government funding from the local and state level shut off to ACORN. We are also seeking to have their business licenses and state charters declared null and void. We are going to show up at EVERY public meeting where elected officials are present and ask them why ACORN is still operating in our state until they are shut down.
You can do the same.
this is just some more of obama’s theft policy everyone in ths country should stop spending money and get to gether with their employer’s and scheduel a national shut down for 2 or 3 weeks and that would send a strong message to washington to stop waisting our money on all of all of this crap that they spending it on like ACORN and SEIU and ACLU and AFLCIO and crap and traid and all of these bailout’s.
This FEMA grant is just another way to keep our tax money flowing into the corrupt ACORN. It's not going to be used for its intended purpose either and will most like just end up funding more of their highly questionable activities. Are some of those folks from Gitmo supposed to arrive there? Not sure what this all means, so I sent link to a police officer I trust to look over. A few months ago, that new prison was all over the news. It is a brand new prison facility, built in Hardin, Montana. I do not if it was a joint venture with the Crow Nation, but it is on the Crow Reservation. ACORN is a parasite that inserts itself between the purported needy and the malnourished government teat. It takes most of the sparse nutrition for itself while leaving those in need to scrap for the leftovers.

As a volunteer fire fighter I find this more than offensive. The idiot in charge of homeland insecurity should be put before a firing squad. My department just took out a ($120,000)bank loan to add two bays on our fire hall and will have to go door to door collecting money to make the payments. Makes one want to close up and let the neighborhood burn, which it would with the coming forest fire season.

I can actually say that I am impressed. If the CIA could weave a web like this then Osama would have already been caught. I would bet they have a room of interns from colleges all over the US looking through law books from every state, applying for grants for everything they think the government will hand them money for. 80% of what they file get's rejected, but the other 20% that is approved is more money then they need to run their organization. I would surely love to see the Enron style accounting they have going on there. In fact they probably learned & adapted techniques based off Enron so it would be much less detectable. The reason the legal full-court press is not being put on ACORN is because of all of the politicians that would be implicated in the ethics probe, and the subsequent metaphorical blood-letting soon after the facts came to light. DO not expect this story to go any further than it has. With the help of Obama and his ilk, ACORN will be given a fresh coat of whitewash and it will all go away. They will continue to get taxpayer money to further their corrupt ideals. As far as I know, Obama never signed that bill to defund ACORN, so it was an exercise in futility.

I don't mine if Napolitano resigns or not, but I agree that Homeland Security is a joke and misnomer and that the Patriot Act is most unpatriotic. I think this is an area where Libs and Cons can come together: We both think that Homeland Security is a waste of financial resources and adds big bureaucracy without any sort of justifiable result.
I see that ACORN is enemy number one on this blog which of course is the maker's and members' right; however, I don't really understand why because quite frankly, they're not really very powerful in the scheme of things–they really aren't. They certainly don't have the power to undermine our democracy and such nonsense. What undermines our democracy is hyperbole and lies, regardless of which side it comes from. I can see why Cons want to take on unions and whatever, but taking on ACORN with such intense fervor seems overdone to me.

Thanks Senator Vitter! Is there anything you can do to stop the 700k now being given to ACORN by the City of New Orleans? Maybe help New Orleans Congressman Cao learn how to put some big boy pants on stand up for us? FYI to posters; Bobby Jindal / State of La. has stopped all funding to ACORN, but the liberals running the City of New Orleans have decided to continue funding ACORN. Presently giving 700k to ACORN. The only media reporting this is local Fox TV affiliate and they allowed the ACORN Chairperson to blame the Republicans for the national attention on ACORN. The newly elected Republican Cao from N.O. (replaced "Democrat Dollar Bill William Jefferson" – the Democrat that hid money in his freezer) doesn't know which way to go on anything. In an interview awhile back, he stated he believed in "social justice" dating back to his days when he considered being a Jesuit priest.
It is good to get ACORN out but for all of you focused on this do not Focus too hard keep your eyes on what is going on around it. This administration uses everyone and everything as a distraction. They are con men and pickpockets so while you are focused on ACORN they are up to no good just out in the perifery. Louisiana government has grown under Jindal. We have the 8th largest state government in the nation now and about double the next largest one in the South. Lately he has been traveling around the state having photo ops while handing out checks to local government funded by the Stimulus.

I believe Acorn is the master of goverment grants! That is why they have so many Organizational Names staffed with the same people. They scout our available grant monies at federal and local levels, then create a non-profit organization with a mission statement to match the provisions of the grant. All the money goes into Citizens Consulting, their accounting branch, and disappears to god knows where. This set up has been very effective and kept them under the radar for many years.
I just hope the Inspector Generals investigating this operation have the integity to bring it to justice and expose them for what they are.

It was merely a statement acknowledging that this case from a year ago is being reinstated by CREW to punish him for his participation in the subject broached in this article. The only think these ACORN thugs are good for is breaking the law, what the hell do they know about fire prevention and safety? Their Democrat friends in the federal government will always find a way to slide them taxpayer funds regardless of all the investigations into their crooked activities...ed] [...]
I find it hard to give Vitter any credit here, or anywhere. Grown men don't play dress-up.
Let us examine the facts and not this bullshit by a guy who uses the shield (depicted above) to make a "case.:" Where, when have ther been indictments for voter fraud?
This is a massive attempt by the Right to keep minorities from be able to vote. You dislike spending govt money? then defund Blackwater and all the other people who are sent to Iraq, doing intel work, Afghanistan etc instead of using our own trained people–this is a handout to the private sector while we continue to pay taxes for work that now is done by non-govt people.
Agai: The ACORN thing is a tempest in a teapot with all sort of crap claimns that have not been shown to be accurate. Yes. A few bad apples have been uncovered. But to defund a major program that gets cit8izens involved in voting is the GOP way of trying to make up for the simple fact that the American voter no longer trusts them. and doing this nonsense only increases distrust.
Can anyone please, please explain to me what is going on in this country that I love so much, that the main stream media that loves to go after the messengers all the time, won’t go after, or at least ask a simple question like;
“Why in the world would FEMA give money to ACORN” not just because they are known criminals, but who at ACORN is trained in teaching fire safety and why does ACORN need 1mil to teach it, it’s just a simple question, for the love of anything good, please we all need to stop this legalized criminal government, from paying their friends in high places, when the local firemen could use a little money to maybe safe lives.
OK….our Governor raised taxes on businesses until they all left, then was impeached for trying to sell a Senate seat. He'll probably be in jail next year at this time (then his wife went on an embarrassing reality show to raise money for his defense fund). Wanna trade?
Don't forget that one Senator made it to President (and I know how much everyone's enjoying that), another called our troops Nazis, then the new one is so bad even the Democrats didn't want to swear him in.

If you are happy that Sen Vitter allows ACORN, CCI, and CSI to set up headquarters in your state and continue to run a scam on the rest of the country, so be it. With his solution being to write a letter to Janet Napolitano over $1,000,000 contribution/grant then we have a different view on effective leadership. I know Sen Vitter has done more than just write this letter. He chose to post and brag about his letter to Janet Napolitano here. He did not lay out his past "Good Deads" nor did he post his future plans to rid this country of this corruption.
He may be the best Senator fighting ACORN, but what does that say about how the fight is working. He could "lead" the fight against ACORN corruption and post those plans. But that is not what he posted here.
I am also sure there is a good reason that he is recorded as a No Vote on the Defunding of ACORN on S Amdt 2355 09/14/2009.

Fighting off the flow of corrupt payoffs is like holding back a million army ants. It's coming from everywhere and it has to stop. This constant game of confiscation and then doling out to political allies, which seems to be the only thing the Democratic Party is interested in, has become intolerable. I can't think of a single thing the Democrats stand for other than stealing from person A and handing out to persons B and C in exchange for a vote. This mentality, combined with an uncontrollable lust for complete control, will be the undoing of this country if not stopped.
