It’s Time to Opt Out of Senator Reid’s Government Health Care Utopia
by Danny TarkanianIn the very near future, Senator Reid is going to follow Speaker Pelosi’s lead and try to pass his Senate version of the liberal utopian health care plan – a full, unabashed socialist-style takeover of our nation’s health care system.
Senator Reid said health care reform would cover the uninsured, but we’ve already learned it will drive up our premiums – forcing more of us into a Big Brother system with inevitable rationing. He said health care reform would lower costs by itself, but he’s now considering massive tax increases on small business to pay its trillion dollar price tag. He’s promised more competition in health care, but only offers massive government, disguised as phony competition in the form of the taxpayer-subsidized “government option.”
Premium increases, tax increases, and socialized medicine. Make no mistake. Senator Reid is willing to destroy Nevada’s – and the nation’s economy, to pay the ransom demands of the radical left for his re-election.
Senator Reid may think he rules America from his gilded Capitol perch, but I believe that ‘We the People’ still have hope to defeat him, and I have a plan.
Since Senator Reid desperately needs the votes of moderate Senators to pass his plan, he has proposed allowing states to “opt out.” Unfortunately, he will probably make it virtually impossible to opt out, while providing a fig leaf of political cover to Senators on the fence.
Well I’m not fooled, so I’ve called his bluff. If Senator Reid is going to allow states to opt out, then as citizens, let’s take the power out of his hands, and “opt out” ourselves.
In Nevada, I am already leading this charge against Senator Reid. As was reported in the Las Vegas Review-Journal, I have launched the Nevada Health Care Choice Committee, which will put the Reid health care plan on the ballot for the people to vote next November. Once we know the language in the bill related to this option, we will draft our own initiative language and gear up for a signature drive.
But this need not be restricted to Nevada. If your state has an initiative process, you should be researching the same option. Imagine if all of America went back to its states’ rights roots and voted on whether to implement this plan. This could kill any moderate support for the plan, and would put the health care takeover squarely in front of the voters at the same time as each politician – including Senator Reid – runs for re-election.
Already there are movements afoot in other states to do something similar to my initiative. Arizona, in particular is proposing a constitutional amendment that would preserve the rights of citizens to choose their health plan. And similar efforts have started in swing states like Florida, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. I encourage you to learn more about what is going on in your state and take your own actions – while knowing that I will continue to lead on your behalf.
It’s time to fight back using the last line of defense: a vote of the people. There is no guarantee this can stop Senator Reid and his left-wing re-election agenda, but whatever the outcome, it is worth the fight.

Sure, this may be another Democratic power grab, just as Republicans practice their versions of power grabbing. But don't tell me you folks still don't see this as a huge giveaway to the insurance industry? They and big pharma are guaranteed to reap billions from this bill, which is why they lobbied so hard for it and have been instrumental in writing it. That's what Congress does these day, regardless of party, is write bills for their corporate campaign donors.

Being in Virginia, I have to wait for our new Governor to take office. The current Governor is an idiot! But rest assured, I have been contacting every elected official I can on this and will be pestering the hell out of our new Gov. I back the exact same idea… States need to initiate contsitutional ammendements against this or put it up for vote. The problem with voting is that it leaves open a chance in the future to resort back to this stupid HC plan.

Pelosi has also granted immunity to the insurance companies for liability law suits as a "peace offering" and to buy thier support.
We'll just ignore them in 2010 when they beg for our votes and kick them all to the curb!!!

I hate to say this, but I think the stimulus money is going to ACORN and Unions and to fund their re-election campaigns..it's depressing…but we can't stop fighting…that's for sure.

I look at lobbying the industry has done for this bill, the money they poured into lawmakers' pockets like Max Baucus, the amount of money they will get when everyone is forced to buy insurance….things like that. Aren't you folks fond of saying "follow the money"?

Payoffs to big money donors, money for Acorn, SEIU, other unions, malpractice lawyers, etc. The rest will be used to illegally fund the 2010 elections and Obummer's 2012 reelection campaign. Herein lies your problem…you are not getting the truth. Perhaps you should chance watching them and THEN judge.
Also, since when is making a profit evil?? Insurance companies are only doing what most entities do (including the federal government) when their is little to no competition. Open up the floodgates and force insurance companies to compete for business across state lines and very quickly, those caught abusing people would be brought to heel. Competition works!

If Acorn and the fascists successfully manipulate the census, they may fudge the numbers so that we are mathematically unable or unlikely to vote them out. GOP taking this right to SCOTUS and getting it declared unconstitutional if the coercion is still present
Getting an injunction until the above is deliberated, then GAO re-evaluate the cost
Using it mercilessly against the Dem's in 2010
Repealing it in 2011 before the benefits ever start etc.
The end game has to be repeal and all out war on every progressive program in the form of defunding, only killing their free money will kill their movement, or at least make it highly undesireable to participate in.

this is a government power grab. it isn't for the insurance companies. if you read the damn thing then you will see the government ultimately gets everyone in the end.
I agree it needs to be stopped. But the states can trump this at the state level… as long as they stick to their guns and are not weak.

I don't think you understand, the states can opt out of the benefits but cannot opt out of the taxes.
Once you are forced to pay for this it will be essentially impossible to get a state to agree to opt out of the benefits, they know this and this is why they really don't care if there is an 'opt out' option. It doesn't matter to them.
If this becomes law this country will be unrecognizable in 10 years. Think East Germany or USSR. Thanks Obama supporters!

Actually I had been thinking about the taxation part of that. And I know there's an ammendment to the constitution that says the Feds can tax us… but it doesn't say how much. There's nothing to stop a State from limiting how much the Feds can tax a State's residents. I know it would be a dificult fight, but it could be done. And it should be part of a multi-front assault against the unconstitutional actions of the Fed Gov.

i live in las vegas and have sent harry reid many emails. back when i was a democrat ( until may 2008), he would always respond. now that i have emailed him that since he chose to give las vegas seniors the finger, we will respond in kind come the 2010 election..not a peep.
The citizens would do well to bring charges of treason against reid, the oath each government officer takes is a real oath,hence when that officer violates that oath …well if found guilty its life WITHOUT.
