Labor Notes: Union Official, College Lecturer Don Giljum Resigns After AFL-CIO Pressure, UM-KC Won’t Rehire Next Semester
by Dan RiehlThe latest development in University of Missouri-St. Louis union/labor course fall-out via Labor Notes. Earlier Big Government reports here, here and here.
The attorney for the Missouri AFL-CIO, Ron Gladney, called Giljum’s international union and asked officials there to pressure him to resign from his local and international positions, which they did.
Giljum resigned, despite the fact that he had announced back in January he would be retiring May 1—just days away.
According to Giljum, Gladney argued that the incident might cause Missouri Republicans to take up a right-to-work bill, which they have till [sic] now avoided.
The University of Missouri-St. Louis told Giljum he will not be rehired next semester.

"……Judy Ancel Responds: ‘Affront to Democracy and an Attack on Students’ Right to an Education’…."
I don't think,..Judy,…Judy,…Judy,….got the memo.
Amazing how well a little sunlight disinfects, isn't it?
Keep shining the light, people! They are running for the tall grass!
Remember: to the unions, it's not that what he did was wrong, it was that he was caught.
The union death knell means we will endure a period of time of upheaval, albeit slight. Once the parasites are gone, we'll look back at them as just speed bumps on the road to prosperity….
I'm sure Georgie Soros will pay Giljum's salary for a few years.
Funny how these crooks always seem to get hired by another crook somewhere else. Van Jones, anyone?
Cockroaches do not like bright lights
Salary? He'll probably become the Federal Czar of discarded bottles, rags, gasoline and kitchen matches.
Off topic: Who is really running the show? In case some of you don't know of the "White House Insider" this is a series of interviews which supposedly is from a Dem White House insider ( a "Deep Throat" person). Mostly I read them because I think they are entertaining and may have a bit of truth. However, here is the latest and, I think, the WH Insider has nailed it as far as Jarrett and Daley. Daley learned political savvy at his father's knee and Jarrett has been successful by being Obama's tribal matriarch. She knows how he got where he is, but, she's not the only one. Believe it or not … it's interesting.

That is one fat man.
He'll probably land a job working for some government agency somewhere.
He needs to land on a treadmill.
Interesting read Hobbes.
Regarding:
Well at least that settles the who is Pinky and who is the Brain question.
He did nothing wrong. I have had him as an instructor and he did NOT advocate violence of any type. He gave us the knowledge we need to get better wages, better jobs and better lives.
Is the extent of your intelligence? This man has been made to give up a lot and you can only find fault with his appearance in a very unflattering photo.
I have this man as my instructor in Labor Relations. I found him to be nothing but truthful. Unfortunately, some people don't want the truth because it might hurt someone's feelings. We Must be Politically correct even if it's wrong.
What?
Speed bump…!!!
And, why Bambi has SO much time to play golf, etc….
Ms. Jarrett is out there today making statements as to why her "baby" shouldn't have to release his college records. Seems like she wasn't paying attention when George Bush's records were released and he was much older than Bambi is now.

What is the most transparent administration "ever" afraid of?
Citizen Journalist strikes again, chalk up another win for the good guys!

Exposure to the most casual observers…
Yep.
little liberal losers
In other words, " Who you gonna believe? Me, a lying, selfish, self-absorbed lackey of Union Gangsters or your lyin' eyes?"
IOW, union organizing. Whatever.
LOL!
What exactly did he give up? He's gonna have his big fat golden parachute retirement anyway.
Has been made to give up a lot of what exactly? And the reason(s) for this sacrifice would be what exactly?
No one's saying he lied about employing thuggery to grab power and leech from employers and governments.
The "firing" was all for show. The dude retires in a week. The worst that'll happen is he'll be out a day's pay, and he'll have to forego a round of golf at the country club, a Kobe steak dinner, and a Cuban afterwards. Boo freaking hoo.
He'll find a way to get that steak dinner and cigar. He's a man who knows how to get what he wants…
Politically correct you call that? I call it gloating over thuggish behavior. And if his first hand accounts of industrial sabotage along with inflicting pain and suffering on others of which he boasts in the first 90 seconds of this video are true;
I think I would like to hear some more from your fine instructor, particularly the humorous little tales of inflicting pain and suffering on others and industrial sabotage.
And you can with a clear conscience attempt to defend this?
Yup…
Yanno, I miss the good old days when you saw characters like this in a 8×10 black and white photo hanging in the Post Office.
I am a PROUD UNION MEMBER. The labor movement has a very violent history because the company owners didn't want to pay decent wages or give benefits to the workers. Without the Labor movement we wouldn't have the life styles that we have. Have you ever had a union job? If not don't believe every hoax video you see.
on a side note…………………………………………………Ha Haaaaa!
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/04/28/univer...
serves them right.
Why yes, I was a IBEW member when I was a very young man. A long time ago. Even then I would not advocate using the tools and methods of gangsters to put more money in my pocket.
That you would tells me all that I need to know about you.
or hanging from a lamp-post.
Yes, and we got better working conditions by law. That means that the unions now aren't needed, are they?
Or do you really back the asinine argument that sitting on your doing a $12/hour job means you should get paid $45/hour??
Watch that New Tone, or someone will mistake you for a liberal! (wink)
I find it interesting that you condone acts of violence and thuggery. See, funny thing about violence, I can guarantee that your opinion would be somewhat different if YOU were the one on the receiving end of the violent act . What if those "noble" acts of industrial sabotage "accidentally" target unintended individuals (like workers) would the acts still be justified or would the innocent just be necessary "sacrifices" in your war. Unions certainly have been instrumental in the rights of workers for wages and safe working conditions etc. but if you can not see that there are some serious abuses in the system going on today than you are either naive, ill- informed, or complicit- if its the later then you deserve your fate… you get what you pay for.
Mr. O-so-Bright college professor and union thug, broke two of the base rules of dirty tricks.
Never tip your hand- don't get boastful about any tricks you played a part in.
Never admit anything- deny you ever had involvement in any dirty tricks.
He wasn't smart enough to tell his stories in the third person, in front of a bunch of college students. You don't know who your teaching in that class, somebody might post your video on a website somewhere. LOL
This guy is stupid and cocky not a good combination. It's to bad he will never get to sit in jail for the crimes he committed.
Really? Did you honestly just say that all that violence was and is okay because you got something out of it? If I were to punch someone in the face and take their money, would it be okay as long as I gave you a cut?
The guy is a thug, unions are nothing more than mobs, and you're a leech. Enjoy that million dollar retirement you don't deserve for doing a half-ass job making shoddy products. I hope you feel better knowing that it's not a problem because you have your 'lifestyle'. You thief.
I worked for an air freight company that was unionized. We had one gentleman that was fired twice for drug use on the job. Both times the union got him his job back with back pay. It's this kind of asinine behavior that shows the damage unions can do.
Theory is great – if you're in college. The real world, though, has this annoying little habit of biting you right in the a** a few times until you WAKE UP. Good luck with that PC garbage. Stick with what your gut tells you is right and you'll figure it out.
During a break between Active Duty and the Guard I was a supervisor at Veterans Stadium. I was forced into the Union, because it was Philadelphia after all and if I wanted to work there, I HAD to be a Union member. All the Union did for me was take money out of my pocket and give it to politicians that were polar opposites of my values and belief system. To make matters worse, the Unions made it extremely hard to terminate employees I literally caught stealing red handed. There was scam for everything in that stadium from giving product and not ringing it up, to refilling (we counted cups) cups and pocketing the money, to outright taking cash from the register!
I took up a trade, and tried several times to join the local in Philadelphia but was turned away continually because a) I didnt "know" anyone, and b) I was the wrong color. Those are facts!
"He did nothing wrong"
He's a fvcking commie.
Where's HUAC when you need it?
Bring back HUAC.
Thank you for destroying another American industry.
I have had a union job.
Operating engineers local.
Union rep drives up in his 50,000 dollar car wearing a 1500 dollar suit and tells us times are tough.
We have to give up our dental plan. (Dues stay the same though.)
Six months later same union rep, different (new) luxury car, different 1500 dollar suit,
Tells us again that "times are really tough" gotta let go of the vision plan. (Due stay the same though.)
So I dropped the union, went to college, busted my @$$ for an advanced degree in Chemistry.
I don't need a Union any more because I have a very marketable degree that private companies cannot wait to give me tons of cash to help them with their problems.
What kind of marketable degree is Labor Relations? (Betcha get to smoke a lot of pot and complain about not getting your fair share!!!)
You need others to prop you up because you are weak minded.
He needs to tread on a landfill.
I was a proud union member, too. As soon as I got into the union I was told by other members to "slow down and do the minimum to get by… you're in the union now… don't work so hard."
… for free.
your still wet behind the ears child,go back to the kids table and let the adults talk.lets see how you feel about it in 20 years when you have a mortgage and your own kids.
I know enough people who have had union jobs, most were over paid for thier work by 10x and guess who was responsible for paying that wage,,,,,,all of us. Be it $40k for a car not worth $10k and houses that are so over valued due to the union labor used to make it.
College life fills impressionable young minds with an array of academics and ideologies. Life after college beats some sense into them, if they're lucky.
That is so much BS! That I wouldn't be where I'm at without the unions. What crap. I'm where I'm at because I worked hard to get here. Not because someone had to hold my hand and make sure the big, bad businessman didn't screw me. I'm not union and PROUD OF IT! I've seen unions violence first hand and I hope there's a day when they don't have 1/4 of the power they do now.
I've heard many stories like this. "Slow down, pace yourself". Unions are about mediocrity, not excellence.
Sure is, as we found in Florida when we passed the "Sunshine Act" nothing but good came from it.
We need a National sunshine act to stop the lies.
There is a man who stands up for his PRINCIPALS…..he has none.
Hey kid….you are in a college class as a STUDENT….the rest of us are out here in the real world runniing companies and hiring employees….if you don't get filled up with too much labor union crap, maybe YOU will get a job to help pay off your government student loan…otherwise….shut up and go to class and don't talk until you have experience with the real world.
And there it is…
Trades people who work to be among the best at their craft can do the same. Or could if the Government would enforce existing immigration laws, the lack of enforcement harms the trades folks and minorities most of all, but for who do those folks vote? The scofflaw politicos. That never fails to amaze me.
You mallsniper, like many of us, have busted your arse, sacrificed to attain knowledge and a level of skill that you can parlay into a reputation of being a top flight performer through hard work. You create your own market. Good on ya.
Unfortunately it appears that this concept is foreign to the bros/sisters in the union mob who must never step across defined work-rule boundaries, toe the pecking order line, kick back a percentage of their earnings to the mob and their crooked politico enablers, and wait their turn –often in the form of the death of someone higher up in the pecking order– for an opportunity to advance. This poor individual is not free to leave the herd and rise or fall to any degree based solely on their own efforts. Yep, I know how it works. As I said I was in a union several decades ago.
Free men and women do not sound like, nor are they content to be cattle in a stock yard.
Judy is a machinist lathe operator by trade….she got tired of WORKING her hands, so she got a Standford Education in the progressive 1970s, and some degree from Community College of New York…and NOW she is a big deal Labor Activist with a University Paycheck and Prestige to tell the dummas* kids and thug wannabes how labor is king and ownership is terrible. What a waste of the earth's oxygen supply.
Marxism is an affront to democracy and the Marxists in the Democratic Party is an affront to America.
… oh the snakes crawl at night, that's what they saaayyyy, when the sun goes down, oh the snakes will play…
Keep the lights on highbeam and wear tall boots in the grass.
I hope everyone knows that these scum came out because obamas election was their signal that "it's our time", and that they fully intend on staying in power by hook or by crook. Who da crook?
If he was fired rather than allowed to retire, wouldn't that affect his pension benefits? Although, we ARE talking about a union member here so I'm doubtful that it would.
A state without a right to work law is a state where workers are held in slavery to communist unions.
Listen to what you just wrote.
"The labor movement has a very violent history because the company owners didn't want to pay decent wages or give benefits to the workers. "
So the company didn't want to pay labor's demands so labor used violence. How is that NOT a mugging?
If a union strikes for $25 an hour, why can't others come in and work for $20 and hour? Do you realize organized labor is also a MONOPOLY on labor? That you precious union prevents other workers from working.
Oh yes I'm sure just like a mugger, without mugging they wouldn't have the life style they have today.
Just listen to your OWN POST.
The problem here child is that he has fed you a pack of marxist male bovine excrement. Unfortunately, you have no experience nor education which would allow you to discern the TRUTH.
Have to agree with your last statement, you toe the plantation politically correct line even if it's wrong.
Agreed. It's unlikely.
