Obama’s Failure on Jobs: Four Damning Charts
by Dan MitchellPresident Obama may have a buddy-buddy relationship with big labor, but he’s no friend to ordinary workers. Here are four damning pieces of evidence.
1. The unemployment rate remains above 9 percent according to the Labor Department data released on Friday.
This is about 2-1/2 percentage points higher than Obama promised if would be at this stage if we adopted the failed stimulus.
This is a spectacular failure.
2. Black unemployment has jumped to 16.7 percent.
I’ve already commented on how Obama has produced bad results for the African-American community, and the joblessness numbers are rather conclusive.
What makes that figure especially remarkable is that the black unemployment rate during the Obama years is more than 50 percent higher than it was during the Bush years.
3. More than 40 percent of the unemployed have been out of work for more than six months.
These bad numbers almost certainly are caused, at least in part, by the unemployment insurance program – as even senior Democrat economists have acknowledged.
4. Millions of people have dropped out of the labor force, dropping the employment-population ratio to the lowest level in decades.
Here’s the chart I posted last month. It hasn’t changed, and it’s perhaps the clearest evidence that Obama’s policies are crippling America’s long-run economic outlook.
All four of these charts are bad news. But the economy periodically hits a speed bump. The real problem is not bad numbers, but the fact that bad numbers have persisted for several years.
And the really bad news is that there is little reason to expect a turnaround given the current Administration’s affinity for bigger and more burdensome government.

I believe I am having problems with all of the Breitbart sites. Photos also not coming up just the ? in their place. Thought it was just me, shut down computer twice to no avail. Surprised intensedebate is working.
What is never adressed is the 70 million baby boomers, of which 10,000 reach age 65 every day for the next 20 years. Many have retired prior to age 65.
This will eventually create a labor shortage in many areas.
However, I do agree that policies from the Bush and Obama administration have sucked wealth from the private sector that will never return.
Should add two more (non-invisible) charts. The value of the Dollar and the price of gold.
The one "chart" that clearly depicts Obama's agenda,………..
would indicate a highly successful "presidency",…….
the taking of wealth from those who earned it,….
to those who have not.

I'll be 65 years old this month. I retired from my electrical trade when I was 62 years old.
Our rate of unemployment in the Bldg/Construction Area is about 50%.. The actual literal, Union-based figure is 25%…Then, there are workers who just "sit home" for their Contractors and don't sign the "Out of Work" List, and therefore are not reported as unemployed.
Obama and friends simply want to reduce everyone's Assets! Like a good Socialist would do! Their primary objective is to have the U.S.A. merge with the European Empire and form a One World Govt. That was one of Hitler's goals, remember?
They want to supercede our Founding Documents with their United Nations Charters and Treaties.
To those of us on the right (and even a few more on the left each day) it has become patently obvious that Obama is either the most incompetent bungler to ever sit in the Oval Office, or he is a leftist ideologue, hell-bent on destroying the economy and the country. It is one or the other and my bet is on the latter.

I have often wondered if the number of those who are retiring have actually helped the jobs numbers. Many of them must be replaced, would this be counted as a new job then?

Both food and fuel are excluded from the government-reported inflation rate.

For all those lib/proggies that have the hard fast belief that the govt creates jobs and can grow the economy here is the wake call for you to come out of the dream land you are living in. All govt does is take money from the hard working people through taxes and spend in areas that they believe needs additional moneyto level the playing feild. This notion that the govt spends our tax dollars wisely on their pet projects is a complete fantasy that has not worked. If the lib/proggies can name one program that the govt is in charge that is runningclose to budgeted cost and effeciently I will gladly admit that they are right.
Private business grows the economy and creates job by taking a risk of starting a new company or inventing a new product. When the govt is the biggest employer in our country there is drastic problem that needs to be fixed. While govt may be a necessary evil it can not be left uncontrolled as it is now. Why is it that the govt occupies such a large of daily lives?
It's 'leaking out' that Obama wants to extend unemployment benefits for another year. It was also reported that he favors 'anti-discrimination' rules protecting the unemployed- giving us, but mostly him, another protected class of voters.
Those who simply work, doing whatever they need to to survive, thrive and advance may soon be the minority. We are close to a tipping point on this and Obama is doing all he can to insure it. obama's strategy is clear- gather together all the teet-suckers while creating more, dividing us into conquerable special self-interests. Obama's chosen course is destruction pure and simple. Obama's ideology demands it.
Figures don't lie but liars figure. The toddler is an expert at distorting both the facts and figures.

Let us take a look. First, the government has a finite source of income. It is the same as most every working person in America. This source is a progressive tax on every working American. If the government taxed or confiscated every dollar made from the working people in the United States how would it be distributed? This is the most important question any rational person can ask. The government is not the benevolent entity so many progressives want to believe it is. We are a nation governed by men and women who by their inherent nature seek power over other men and women. It is insane to consider that if provided with all of the decision making power they would not subject mankind to their will. Tyranny in purity. The Constitution enumerates the powers of government clearly, rationally, and with obvious intent. Ignoring those enumerations have placed us where we are today. Continuing to ignore them will have all Americans in servitude not to each other but to government.

You fail to mention that the 50% increase not only took place during the Obama years…..but ALSO during and after the creation of the Tea Party.

Good afternoon my friend it has been a long time since we have talked.
As always you have hit the nail on the head. Most of the problems we have today is being caused by a govt and a group of people who do not understand what this country was founded on and why it was founded. They have a view of the Constitution that it is an document that has not kept up with the times and does not fit in to the current world view. I on the other hand believe fully that it is not that the Constitution does not firt the time, but a govt that has stopped following what is clearly writtten int he Constitution.
Where would we be today if our govt simply followed the Constitution as it has been written and stopped trying to manipulate it to their own desires?
I've been trying to solve the riddle for a while now: Destroyer or just plain stupid. I'm starting to consider a third possibility: His economic advisors are union people. They desperately want to prolong their collective free-ride, subsidized by non-union workers. And the advice he receives from this is the opposite from what needs to be done to 'release' the economy to thrive on its own merits.
Stupid: Maybe not – just sheltered and blinded by ideology, and zero practical work experience.
Exactly where our founders envisioned and in clear view to the rest of the world. A free society with the resources to enable advancement of the human condition beyond anyones dreams.
I've been debating that myself – stupid or evil? I can't shake the "evil" choice from my mind, because I can't imagine that that many stupid people have made it this far in life being that stupid. Sure, there may be some true believers, but I think many of them at the top know that what they are selling is bullsh!t and it doesn't matter to them as long as they get what they want – the destruction of the greatest country the Earth has ever known; the destruction of liberty.
This country even with the limited freedoms that we have at this point and time is still advancing the rest of the world, though we are not alone in those advance any longer there are other countries rapidly catching up to us due to our limited freedoms.
Our country should return to being a beacon of freedom and justice for all the world to see. We should stop portraying ourslevs as the leader of the free world and start acting like a leader for freedom and justice.

hey, we could actually use the infamous 'hockey stick' graph to plot crappy economic indicators against 0bama's time in office!
And even if you think a grocery item isn't much higher than a year ago, if you check the package, you find that it is usually a smaller quantity, so the price per ounce (or per pound), has gone up tremendously!
The only reason other items haven't gone up much in price (things other than gas and food) is because people haven't been buying much of those other items! It's kind of a death spiral right now; prices for so many things aren't going up because people aren't buying, which results in companies going out of business because, even if they are selling a reasonable quantity, their profit margins are too low to be sustainable. Then, those people who lose their jobs go on unemployement, maybe get their house foreclosed, resulting in a greater burden to the already very fragile economic situation we are in.
General Electric (the company with no taxes and a waiver from Obamacare) will phase out operations of their healthcare unit in Wisconsin and send those jobs to China. And the president of the company (Jeff Immelt) is chair of Obama's committee on jobs! I agree with Donald Trump on keeping jobs here.
They see it, and want it! The democrats have been HIGHLY successful in promoting the class envy mentality of their minions, to the point that they would rather see the nation fail, then have some people be wealthy through their own hard work!
I often think that slavery was the biggest mistake this country ever made! The founding fathers, although many slave owners themselves, probably didn't consider the implications of a major portion of the country's economy dependent on slavery. And then, once slavery was abolished, the country was not in a position to accommodate the slaves as regular members of the country (combination of racism and economic reality). Fast forward to the "great society" programs, that proved to be massive failures, and today we are left with a massive, unresolved problem leading back to the orginal widespread slavery of the southern states.
If my memory serves me correctly there was slavery in the north states which they called indentured servitude. Short definition is the people living here would pay the cost of transportation across the Pond in return for a period of servitude.
While slavery is a black eye on history we all have to remember the era that it took place in and we were not the only ones with slavery. Many Europen countries and African countries were practicing slavery at the time, does this mean that it was right certainly not. When we apply standards of today to the things that have happened in the past we have the benefit of hind sight.
I am against slavery in all aspects, but I also do not agree with how slavery was abolished through the use of the Federal Government to impose on the States Rights and Freedoms. The people of the North forced their views onto the people of the South becuase in their opinion they were right, which has led us to this point where every one looks to the Federal Government to solve all of their supposed injustices.

First look up the definition of bigot before you misuse it again. A typical rightist ploy is to misuse words and phrases. Slander requires a knowingly false statement, here there is no false statement. When democrats too over congress in 2007 unemployment was 4.6 and the deficit was 168 billion. Here we are after five years of Democrat majorities in congress and unemployment is 17% and the deficit is 1.7 trillion. Thank your democrats.

While economics was not my major, I did ace the course I took despite finding it rather boring compared to physics, chemistry, biology, and adv. calculus. Sorry, but I have a genius level
IQ, 150 , with a strong gift for critical analysis. Cutting taxes for the rich and corporations has always yielded a negative result. Even JFK's modest and balanced personal rate cut yielded a revenue drop of $60,000,000. Luckily the economy had already recovered, by the time the tax cut passed, from Ike's minor recession (unemployment had spiked in 1960 from 3 to 4%). New programs like NASA helped feed the boom spanned from early in JFK's to the end of LBJ's term.
Too often slavery comes up when discussing the federal over-reach. The truth as documented in the journals and other writings of so many of the founders is that they abhorred slavery. They did wrestle with the issue while crafting the Constitution but agreed that it would tear apart the new country. Were they wrong? Obviously they were correct as indicated by the Civil War. The country was sound enough in principle to be able to over come and ultimately clear out this blight but as a fledgling republic it would have only served to weaken us and allow another country to gain an upper hand.
There are two things that seem to be missing in the argument regarding civil rights.
1. Slavery has been abolished so those who cling to it for whatever purpose need to let it go and not allow it to be repeated here by allowing the state to become the new over lords.
2. Understanding that it has taken some time for the country to correct the illness of racism and prejudice it is still being fed by people who use it to advance a politcal and social stream of money to their own pockets.
