Obama’s Budget Plan: Class-Warfare Tax Policy and Bureaucrat-Controlled Health Care
by Dan MitchellPresident Obama didn’t offer a budget plan yesterday. The White House hasn’t released anything beyond a set of talking points.
But that’s not terribly surprising since his speech was really the opening salvo of his 2012 reelection fight. And it’s clear that a central theme of his campaign will be class warfare.
But if we translate his campaign-style demagoguery into the overall budget framework, we get something like this fiscal continuum. Obama, for all intents and purposes, has taken the moderately left-wing proposal crafted by his Fiscal Commission and moved it significantly in the wrong direction by adding class-warfare tax policy. As such, he is close to the left end of the line, which represents “Statism.”
The Ryan plan, by contrast, is the moderately right-wing mirror image of the Fiscal Commission. But rather than cementing in place bigger government, as proposed by Simpson and Bowles, Ryan’s budget slowly shrinks the fiscal burden of government. As such, it is on the “Liberty” side of the continuum.
America’s Founding Fathers had the right idea, of course, They envisioned a very limited central government, and for much of our nation’s history, the federal budget consumed about 3 percent of GDP. Unfortunately, the Hoover-Roosevelt policies began the process of moving America in the wrong direction, and federal spending now consumes nearly one-fourth of America’s economic output.
But enough history.
Let’s revisit Obama’s speech and the accompanying talking points. In addition to the class warfare (more on that below), we also see an explicit call to reduce the growth of Medicare spending by “strengthening the Independent Payment Advisory Board.”
In other words, Obama wants to use his control of the purse strings to give bureaucrats more ability to decide what kind of care seniors can receive. It’s politically incorrect to call this type of entity a “death panel,” so I’ll simply contrast Obama’s top-down bureaucratic approach with the Ryan plan, which is based on giving vouchers to future seniors so they can pick the health plans that best fit their needs (people over 55 would be stuck with the current system). And since this is very similar to the system used to provide health care for Members of Congress and their staff, you know it must work reasonably well.
Let’s briefly return to the tax side of the fiscal equation. I’ll have more to say about this in a separate post giving a behind-the-scenes look at what Democrats really hope to achieve in the area of tax policy, but I want to offer a basic explanation of why the soak-the-rich approach is doomed to fail. There are five reasons in this video to reject class warfare, including a very important warning that high tax rates on the rich almost always are a tactical move to facilitate higher taxes for the rest of us.

Obama wants to redivide the economic pie with higher taxes on the rich, giving more pie to the poor, RATHER THAN GROWING THE PIE and giving everyone a bigger slice.
As for his ObamaCare, Obama wants bureaucrats to make life and death decisions. He wants a bigger government. IS HE TRULY INTERESTED IN KEEPING DOWN THE COST OF HEALTH CARE???

Class warfare is all part of the plan.
Obama's "budget plan" can be summed up very simply, he plans to pillage the rich to support those on public assistance, a truly uncapitalistic approach to govern a capitalistic society in a time when across the board tax cuts are necessary to stimulate job growth and the economy. It's obvious that Obama knows as much about economics as he knows about constitutionality which is zip.

You, and everyone else I know, has asked the same question, and said the same thing, almost verbatim. The problem is simple. The problem is US. It is our skewed perceptions.
It has nothing to do with the country's interests not being his own.
It has everything to do with him "fundamentally" changing, and remaking America, into his own version of what he "thinks" it should be.
We are looking at things through a different prism.

Couldn't agree more that initiating higher taxes on the rich is the foot in the door to raising it on the rest of us (and by rest of us, I exclude the 40% + of Americans who do NOT pay income taxes).
Once you have tapped out the rich, where do you go for funding. You have made it clear you won't seriously cut spending or social programs or waste or fraud or abuse. So, once you have strong armed the wealthy, you are going to need more revenue taking streams. At that point it's : middle class, meet higher taxes!
Class warfare is the perfect snack for a lazy mind.

Obama has tried to redefine poverty. Poverty used to be a quantified level. The bare amount needed to provide for subsistence, food and shelter (etc). The Obama administration has worked feverishly to change this definition of poverty. They want it to be a sliding scale based on how FAR behind the rich you are. Not whether or not YOU have what YOU need, but how much MORE a rich guy has than you. Absurd!
Also, sharing the pie is the easy way out. It appeals to the 40+% of Americans who don't pay income tax, and appeals to the masses that don't want to be bothered having to help grow the pie.

We are looking at things thru a prism which is focused on chaining the productive sector of our society to the lowest common denominator. We are looknig thru a prism which magically forms success and productivity into unfairness and inequality.

His transformation has nothing to do with growing tax revenue, cutting spending, reducing the deficit, putting people to work, making energy affordable, keeping inflation under control, securing this country against its enemies. His administration is all about creating a crisis situation where the powers of the state (executive) will grow and run every aspect of our lives. Where people say Obama is inept, I say he is clever.
Consider the issue of abortion. The government, to many, has legalized murder of the unborn. Under Obama & the Democrats federal tax dollars will continue to be spent to underwrite the costs.
Now, look at ObamaCare. As has been discovered, a bureaucrat will determine if one is worth saving from an illness or not. This rationing of care will condemn most older people to death. If no private alternative is allowed, is not the state murdering the elderly?
This is too much power for Obama and the state. This power over life and death is with the Creator and His alone.

The idea of the pie is not mine, but we use what we learn. Obama's ideas go beyond the poor in this country. Under Obama, we will be giving our wealth away to third world countries. I've been looking for answers as to why he does what he does. PLEASE consider the following:
One needs to understand the President‘s thinking. Obama’s policies have their roots in his Kenyan father. An anti-colonialist, his father viewed the US as the successor of British and French imperialism. These countries gained their wealth at the expense of the poorer nations of the world. According to Obama Sr., when the US is weakened both economically and militarily, the world will be better off because it is the source of most of the world's problems. This is why Obama is dead set to reduce American influence and power in the world. Remember, he was a member of a church for 20 years where the minister said God damn America.
This anti-colonial pattern of thinking can explain much with regard to Obama’s actions: Obama apology tours, in the Mideast, the START treaty with Russia, with NASA's new mission to make Muslims feel good, with a Stimulus that did not stimulate, the energy policy that will destroy the economic recovery and his actions against an ally, Egypt, Israel, Yemen and non-action against enemies like Iran, Syria, even his failure to act in Libya until there was a UN resolution that allowed action against Gaddafi. Adopting Bush's ideas, I doubt it.

Yes, the problem is US. The Commie/Progressives have managed to suborn religion, the family, education and our Constitution over the past 100 years. They have created enough simple-minded citizens to conduct their final push to topple the United States. They lie, cheat, steal and create havoc to achieve that goal. I've wondered, too. The Washington Examiner's expose of "Who Funds the Democratic Party" makes the president totally predictable…Soros, along with radical leftists (remnants of the CPUSA), has backed him from the start, and if we spend enough, the dollar will collapse…. It's interesting to see Soros in action, saying we can afford more debt….. My biggest question now is who funds the MSM? Their leftist support just doesn't make sense, since in my area their customers are conservative….

You are correct. This Worker-Progressive movement goes back past Woodrow Wilson, who in many ways, was a scary President. They have been chipping away at traditional values. The idea of the rugged individual is totally opposite their philosophy of dependence on the state. They are doing a superb job of divide and conquer with political correctness and diversity. With Obama, they are in the driver's seat and must be stopped. Can we, as you say, cut the threads and rise, I don't know? The last election looked like voting on American Idol. It was about celebrity. I don't think our educational system discusses issues and party platforms. Our younger generations are swayed by slogans, personalities. I really wonder if they can think.

Something was missing from his speech today – haunting, but clear. He was positive in 2008. Today, he basically said that with gov't spending over 4 Billion a day just in interest …we are on are own (is much worse than he even realized). BUT he is not giving up. Will be a fight to the end. {sigh}
