Can We Constrain Bloated and Oppressive Government?
by Dan MitchellThe good news is that proponents of limited government are fired up and fighting for freedom. Obama’s statist proposals on everything from health care to taxes have reinvigorated the leave-us-alone coalition. The bad news is that this rebirth of activism is not stopping the march to collectivism. The burden of government is much larger today than it was when Obama took office. Federal government spending is now consuming about 25 percent of GDP, but the really bad news is that the burden of federal spending is projected to rise to at least 45 percent of GDP in coming decades because of an aging population and programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. In other words, even if we stop the rest of Obama’s agenda, we are doomed because of entitlement programs to become a European-style welfare state.
Is there a way to save America from becoming another Greece? What is our best strategy to prevent the left from creating a society where a majority of adults live off the state and consistently vote to rape and pillage the productive minority? There are no sure-fire answers to these questions, but part of the solution is that we need to make it more difficult for the statists to treat private sector workers, investors, and entrepreneurs as ATM machines to finance redistribution. This is why tax competition, as explained in this video, is a powerful tool for constraining government.
Unfortunately, high-tax nations have figured out that tax competition is a threat and want to interfere with the right of low-tax jurisdictions to maintain good policy. This campaign to undermine fiscal sovereignty is usually characterized as an attack on so-called tax havens, but that is just the first step. International bureaucracies such as the Paris-based Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development favor “global governance” policies. Other bureaucracies, including the United Nations and European Commission, also favor one-size-fits-all global rules to benefit high-tax nations such as France and Germany.
I’ve been fighting for years against the OECD’s scheme to create a global tax cartel, even to the point of almost being arrested in Mexico. But this should be the battle of every patriot and freedom fighter. If international bureaucracies succeed in creating an “OPEC for Politicians,” our chances of thwarting big government drop from slim to none.

This is ridiculous. People shouldn't have a right to skip out on their obligations to their fellow citizens. I'm glad the President is working with the Europeans to curtail this form of economic treason.
"OPEC for Politicians"?? Hmmmmm… Does this mean that they will all be in the same place at one time once a year? If so I would be glad to "accidentally push the red button".
The Republicans have to delay EVERY vote on EVERY bill no matter how big or small if even only an hour or a day. The delays will add up over the coming months. They have to slow down the Socialist agenda as much as they can until November. Come November when Obamao doesn't have the majority any longer we will see his true agenda and the tactics to achieve them.
CAN WE CONSTRAIN BLOATED & OPPRESSIVE GOVERNMENT? Well, yes we can. The biggest problem that we Americans face is that 54% of our income tax goes to support the most bloated and oppressive part of our federal government- the military.
http://www.warresisters.org/pages/piechart.htm
All we have to do is cut the military budget by 75% and we would have more than enough money to cover universal healthcare and universal public college education. You don't need a PhD in economics, Mr. Mitchell, to figure that one out.
Bush spent 8 years redistributing money from the poor and middle class to the rich. It's time to reverse the process and restore fairness. If that means we have to give the IRS more power, that's a worthwhile price. Mitchell's just a mouthpiece for plutocracy.
Dave, I totally agree with you but have you given any thought to what will happen when barry o. allows amnesty for all of these undocumented workers? barry already knows that his goose is cooked with the majority of Americans and will NEVER get another shot at another term but will certainly recoup those votes with the Hispanic population once immigration reform is complete.
Am I wrong?
Every time I hear "fairness", "Social Justice" and "re-distribution" I imagine the world looking like Detroit or the Ninth Ward of NOLA. Mugabe did this in Zimbabwe and in less than a decade the nation went from a net exporter of produce to a starving nation. Handing money to those who have not earned the money not only deprives that person of personal pride but makes them ever more likely to only need more as time goes on.
Equal Opportunity NOT Equal Outcomes.
With equal outcomes human nature takes over and nobody will do anything more than they are 'forced' to produce. How many times does this failed philosophy need to be tried and then fail before some people wake up and realize the formula that made this nation, once the leader of the world, needs to be replicated, not replaced.
Good for you – if you oppose globalism you are ok in my book.
Hence the term Bleeding Heart Liberal – do it for the less fortunate, do it for the sick, do it for the children. Who give the most to charity – large evil corporations and conservative Americans.
Wrong answer dumb***!!!!!!! Are you kidding me? Were the hell do they raise these people? The fact that you call yourself a Patriot is a disgrace to all the Veterans who sacrificed so you could run your piehole….scumbag
Very nicely put! Here, Here!
BTW, I tried to read this blog but got so distracted I couldn't. What a beauty….

"You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to do more work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."
"Is there a way to save America from becoming another Greece?" The short answer is NO.
The sheer weight of the debt service is unsustainable. It defies not only the laws of economics, but the laws of physics and gravity as well. The United States is nothing but a Ponzi Scheme, a huge triangle, on the head of a pin.
They only thought Bernie Maddoff was bad……….
Mr. Hauling Ash, why do people like you get worked into a tizzy when the government redistributes wealth from the rich and the corporate-militatry-financial elite to the middle and working classes, but not when the government redistributes wealth from the working and middle classes to the rich and the corporate-military-financial elite? Please explain, my fellow American.
maybe if we stop calling it "Immigration Reform",………..
why is it that we allow Libs. /Dems to label the issue in a way that it appears palatable.
When you give illegal aliens a reward for breaking our immigration laws, why is it that,……….
the law has to be reformed.
You are factually wrong. France does a better job of equalizing outcomes and they have much higher living standards.
That's one thing we can agree about. I don't approve of Mitchell's lack of compassion for the poor, but he knows how to pick interns.
Au contraire (that's French for "on the contrary"), my fellow American. As Barbara Kingsolver once stated, "Americans who think and read are patriots of the first order."
By the way, in your third sentence, I think you meant to say "Where the hell. . . " not "Were the hell. . . "
Maybe you should read the statement again, Its common sense if you can't comprehend it then I can't help you.
Hopefully Mr Mitchell, American Seniors now, finally realize their benefits can not, will not, may not
continue to rise. In fact these benefits must shrink dramatically. It's too bad that so many paid into
this ponzy scheme called Social Security, & now will be angry to their dying day when they don't re-
ceive their entitlement. Same with the welfare entitlement class who may actually revolt if their bene-
fits are cut off, cold turkey. These programs MUST be gradually eliminated. We will need true grown-
ups in charge, & so far I see none on the horizon. Nor do I see a way for them to be elected IF they
are truthful with the electorate.
Engage your brain. Look around you. Now, go hit the history books. No, I mean the real history books. Look at what this nation was 150 years ago, not so far from the rest of the world. My grandmother crossed the plains in a covered wagon and lived in a sod house on the Kansas prairie. Now, look at other places in the world. They're still living in sod huts. Find me a sod hut in the U.S.. We have the answers and now we're going backward.
Learn history. Or you will be doomed to repeat it.
You leave out the FACT that the military is required by the Constitution and replace it with the feeling it would feel good to enable people.
Ever worked for a poor man?
The poor are not static. If you are "poor" now and were "poor" 8 years ago, I suggest you may want to work a little smarter.

Now we intend to burden the camel with amnesty for illegals(people who have proven they do not want to follow the rules already), legislation to fight climate change and bloating the govt with every pen stroke. Which one will break the camel's back/
What right does anyone have to "equalize" incomes? Do you understand that communism has already been tried here? That's right. It was tried long ago and found not to work. Thus we have private property rights.
Learn your history, little one. Learn your history.
William Bradford wrote in his Journal,
“The experience that we had in this common course and condition, tried sundry years…that by taking away property, and bringing community into a common wealth, would make them happy and flourishing – as if they were wiser than God.”
“For this community (so far as it was) was found to breed much confusion and discontent, and retard much employment that would have been to their benefit and comfort. For young men that were most able and fit for labor and service did repine that they should spend their time and strength to work for other men’s wives and children without [being paid] that was thought injustice.”
“This [free enterprise] had very good success, for it made all hands industrious, so as much more corn was planted than otherwise would have been.”
Mr. Red47, now let us not go overboard and eliminate the military all together. All we have to do is cut the budget of the biggest part of Big Government by 75%. Then we could take these resources that were taken away from the hard-working American people and re-investment them in socially useful programs that would benefit the hardworking Americans, such as healthcare and education.
Treason to not be on board with your plans? Good old liberal fascism….
Funny how you to correct my english to make yourself feel intelligent. Need some help do you?
When you finally get a CLUE, let me know.
Well, Mr. Cardilover, I would like to pick up some additional languages. I think I would prefer Farsi, since there are already a number of Farsi-derived words in Hindi, of which I am somewhat familiar.
You do make an excellent point. With all that money freed up from a 75% budget reduction in the military and its re-investment in healthcare and education, there would be plenty of resources at my disposal to learn additional languages. That's important in a world which is becoming more global, is it not?
As long as politicians have the mentality that, in order to stay in office, they have to "deliver services" (i.e. bribe people) for votes, nothing will change. What people are starting to understand is that they being bribed with their own money. Or another way of putting it is that your left pocket is getting picked and a fraction of that is being stuffed back in your right.
Politicians hate tax competition, especially if they can't compete. They would rather have people vote with their feet then try to break the goodies for votes mentality.
Mr. HaulingAsh, I believe you meant to say "Funny how you correct my. . . " not "Funny how you to correct my . . ." Moreover, "english" is a proper noun and should be "English".
Wouldn't it be amazing if we redistributed 75% of the military budget to health and education? Our fellow Americans would be so much more healthier and well educated. Don't you think, Mr. HaulingAsh?
Cowboy I have believed this for years but it seems everyone is willing to go along with "Wishthink" The stock market is no longer related in anyway to underlying value. Currency has become an illusion as many trillions as the government has manufactured it is pale in comparison to the trillions that the financial industries have created out of thin air. Derivatives are only part of the picture they are the long-term float. The short-term float that occurs with every plastic transaction is insane. Posted from your account in seconds posted to the merchants account in days. How many trillions of dollars are in perpetual float? What happens as the economy slows and all those promises have to be kept. If I am right you will see visa merchants accounts getting slower and slower reimbursements
If there is “hope”, it is that all economies are in the same dismal shape we will come out on top of the dung heap I am just hoping its horse manure and not pig.
Be sure to stock up on torches and pitch forks
The economy can take care of itself if left alone.
Government intervention destroys the competative environment that keeps prices in check. It was government giving the insurance companies 'anti-trust' exemption that led to our current problems. Free the market watch the prices come down.
I don't know Copper.
I listened to it.
I damn sure wasn't impressed.
No thats what I meant to say I guess you didn't catch the sarcasm. Really you've said alot about yourself with this form of attack. Feeling a draft in moms basement? Your trying to rationalize sociaIism. If you don't realize that your hopeless. And as far as I'm concerned your the scum thats oozing down the streets in America right now.
What's wrong with nations cooperating to make sure the rich don't get a free ride? Globalism, as you call it, is our best chance of ensuring a fair society.
In addition to being good for planning the world economy, globalism also can rein in the reckless cowboy behavior of the US government in foreign affairs.
You ignorant lib. The rich pay most of the taxes, Noone has a right to anyone elses earning . If you beleive this donate your savingd to the cause. Once youmention Bush I know you are a bigger dumbass than he is
You are right, unfortunately we already have 50% of the people here not paying taxes, and they wonder why we're in trouble! When does it end?
Come now, Mr. HaulingAsh. You continue to make grammatical errors: "thats" should be "that's" (a contraction of that is), "Your" should be "You're" (a contraction of you are), "moms" should be mom's" and "alot" is not a word. I believe you meant to say "a lot".
Now wouldn't you agree that our Big Government is wasting too much money on the military and not investing enough in education? If Americans had a collectively higher level of education, then it's less likely that they would be duped by the far right-wing fear mongering that is working so many of my fellow citizens up into a tizzy.
It's already broken Red, and they keep piling more on. If this was a sports game, the refs would have blown the whistles, thrown the flags to make it stop due to many violations of the rules (our rights). Let's hope we can get them thrown out of the game, as we are the refs!
And I suppose you believe in the UN's ability to govern? You may also believe that every evil dictator will just 'turn over a new leaf"?
The real world is populated by people who do not value human life and you have the ignorance to proclaim the USA as evil?
Garrett, I worry for people like you because one day REALITY is going to come knock you on your ass and you might just go postal and take out others who are just trying to lead a normal life.
I am 100% positive that you are fdr the person who replied to the comment I placed lower on this same page. A far as you correcting my grammar have a field day I am a self employed welder with a unlimited certification in N.C. I am payed well for my time. You would be lost like a little kid working with me. Maybe if you were very smart and hard working you could be my helper in 3 years. fdr, patriot whatever you want to call yourself do yourself a favor and have the guts to use one name and stick with it.
Why do you use 2 different names to spew the same garbage truetruepatriot?..or is it fdr which name will you use when you reply?
Look at patriot's post at the top of the page. Read his comments here and there. I've noticed this a few times on here but this is the first time I'm certain.
Spence, I'm not surprised that shallow and greedy conservatives judge women just by their looks, but I'm very disappointed that you sink to their level of misogynistic sexism!
Couldnt quite make it through the whole thing to much insider stuff to make sense of it. I dont think the fix is gonna come from some closeted group but thats just my humble opinion. Perhaps you know more about this group. This is my first exposure.
What obligations? And to which citizens? And WHY? And by whom? Maybe we should think about what a RIGHT – a PRIVELEGE – an OBLIGATION is before we legislate it into eveyone's life
Dan, thanks for the info on the topic. I really didn't know about the OECD, just another EU move to a one world govt. laws. Makes me sick, and you said in the vid we are paying part of the cost for this bogus group? Sorry, I have to log out now before my head explodes after being on the Bigs for way too long!
LOL! What's wrong is nations cooperate to make the rich richer. And you have a very dangerous premise of "ensuring a fair society" – that is what every dictator promises. Best we can hope for is a government accountable to the people that the best way for that is localism – globalism is for the fat cats. Which one does Rockefeller want? How about Kissinger, Bushes, or just about every elitist scumbag you can think up? That should tell you everything.
“It only stands to reason that where there’s sacrifice, there’s someone collecting the sacrificial offerings. Where there’s service, there is someone being served. The man who speaks to you of sacrifice is speaking of slaves and masters, and intends to be the master.” ~~ Ayn Rand
I believe that Lewis & others were called the "N" word by Tea Party members. I believe a Tea Party member called Bawny Fwank a Faggott. I believe Bart Stupak & others of his ilk have recieved death threats.
I also believe in the 'Easter Bunny" Santa Claus, & The Tooth Fairy.
Anyone that believes these false, unsubstantiated claims is likely to believe Obam's denials of his relationships with Rev. Wright & Bill Ayers. Those same Progressive Democrats also don't believe Obama is a Marxist.
Btw, did you know that individual mandates are a Republican idea? http://news.yahoo.com/s/mcclatchy/3460142
Obligation? I have no obligations except for those I consciously choose. Involuntary obligation is another for slavery.
There isn't enough wealth to make everyone rich, Guy. Use the lottery as your example. If you took away the winner's millions and "gave it back" to everyone, everyone would get less than a dollar, because of the people that didn't play. By the time the people in charge of that redistribution pay for their pretty clothes and victory parties, you only get a promise that the price of a lottery ticket is now only 50 cents. You can't win anymore, but it's cheaper to play! We'll even give really poor folks a ticket to this lottery they can't win, so long as they can prove they're poor.
Have a heart, Guy, but use your head.
An obligation is accepted by another by agreeing to do so. I don't remember anyone asking me if it was alright with me to pillage my earnings with 50 or more different types of taxes! I lose well over 50% in taxes and what do I get in return? Nothing, except demands for more "tribute", which never end. When a working man loses 50% of his salary in taxes when he earns it, and an additional 50% when he dies, his family benefits only 1 out of every 4 dollars the man earned in his lifetime! No form of government is worth this as it is pure slavery in disguise. If you want to give these clods all your earnings, be my guest. Just keep your grubby hands out of my pockets and the pockets of other honorable, hard working people. I suggest you change your name to a Guy With No Brains!
Do you live there?
No you are absolutely right. Once the ilegals become citizens, they will then join the union. Then we can expect more thugs coming around for card check. It won't be pretty whenever one side starts pushing back against the other. especially when that's exactly what the progressives want.
LOL The lottery is another form of taxation only the people are this time throwing their money at it. LIke Las Vegas, the house wins 365 days a year.
Apparently your math skills are non-existent.
Economies are not improved by "coming together". They improve by the VERY hard work, risks taken, and investments made into producing wealth. This means that by definition, government is a waster of wealth.
Obligation, says whom?
Ready to learn Arabic or Farsi, stupid?
Hopefully we will come together to improve the economy.
I'd buy garden seeds, canning jars, guns and ammo.
try as you may to 'globalize' & 'equalize', cream will ALWAYS rise to the top. My ancestors left
the Old South after the War Between the States penniless, after having been wealthy. In their
new home they became wealthy again after 40 years of struggle. You can't keep a GOOD man
down under a capitalistic system.
Ever seen the tv show about poor folks who have won the lottery? Tell me, what percentage of
them maintain their new-found wealth?……………..NUFF SAID?
Even by your logic, the "process" takes money away from the middle class going in both directions. I know, I'm one of them. The only common denominator is the size of the government doing the redistributing of that wealth, and it's growing even faster under Obama.
Mr. HaulingAsh, so you're a North Carolinian! It was good to see that the Tar Heels came over to the side of the Democrats in 2008. Keep up the good work in 2012.
You made a wise career decision in becoming a welder. After we get this health-care thing straightened out we're going to have to turn our attention to the country's decaying infrastructure. Ever since Reagan was president government investment in roads and bridges has been in decline. We're going to have to take care of that in the near future. I suggest that you and your fellow welders form a strong union so that you will be in a good position to use your leverage when it comes time to fix all of the dilapidated bridges.
[All we have to do is cut the military budget by 75% and we would have more than enough money to cover universal healthcare and universal public college education.]
I thought that you Lefties were all about efficiency now? Since that's the case, shouldn't you want tax dollars to flow to where the successes are?
Our military spending, which is actually authorized by the Constitution, has given us the best military in the world. By comparison, what return have we gotten out of the trillions upon trillions of dollars in spending on education and health care you leftists have advocated for the past 50 years? 1) A steadily declining education system that costs twice as much per student compared to other developed countries and 2) a bankrupt Medicare system, that on a per-person basis, costs more than private insurance.
But, hey, I'm right there with you, man! Nothing would make me happier than to turn on FOX News and see a report that your fellow leftists Democrats are advocating a 75% cut in military spending. I wish you nothing but success in your endeavors at making your dreams come true
"Our military spending, which is actually authorized by the Constitution, has given us the best military in the world."
I must question you on two points, Mr. Rvastar. First, the Constitution of our great country calls of national defense. It does not call for illegal international wars of aggression. Second, the U.S. military failed in it mission in Vietnam, it failed in its mission in Iraq to find "weapons of mass destruction" and it failed in Afghanistan to capture Mr. Osama bin Laden. By "best military" do you mean having the most, biggest, and best guns? Or do you mean attaining its objectives? If it is the latter, then perhaps you might want to reconsider your position.
But at least we agree, my fellow American, that Big Government would be doing the country (and the world) a favor by reducing its military spending by 75%.

Our national health care system needed some tweaks, but overall we have the best health care in the
whole world. Over 76% of the people are happy with their health care provider and their insurance. So,
it was decided to go against the will of the people and overhaul the system. Anyone who disagrees
with me is either a racist or a terrorist. (Aww yes, where have I seen this before…the old divide and
conquer tactic).
[If it is the latter, then perhaps you might want to reconsider your position.]
Nah. It was enough getting you to "reconsider" posting more of your education/health care tripe when I pointed what failures they are compared to our military spending.
So, as a great man once said: "Mission Accomplished!"
[But at least we agree, my fellow American, that Big Government would be doing the country (and the world) a favor by reducing its military spending by 75%.]
Well, I would most certainly agree that Democrats should vigourously campaign on a 75% reduction in American military spending. It would, after all, represent you Leftists being up front and honest about your intentions, rather than couching everything you do in lies and obfuscations.
And I can guarantee you that everyone here would enthusiastically support the results we'd witness at the polls after said campaign…since, after doing so, we'd have a Republican president and the only Democrats found in either the House or Senate would be from New York or California!
Talk about good for the country…and the world!

The Fedocracy is attempting to homogenize the states so that business owners and individuals cannot "vote with their feet"…and so is the political class attempting to do the same on the international level…they cannot control us while we have CHOICE. No-brainer; choice must be eliminated.
