Will Obama Do to America What Corzine Did to New Jersey?
by Dan MitchellBarack Obama wants higher tax rates on the so-called rich, including steeper levies on income, capital gains, dividends, and even death! Along with other greedy politicians in Washington, he acts as if successful taxpayers are like sheep meekly awaiting slaughter. In reality, class-warfare tax policies generally backfire because of the five reasons outlined in this video:
A new study from Boston College provides additional evidence about the consequences of hate-and-envy tax policy. The research reveals that high tax rates in New Jersey have helped cause wealthy people to leave the state, leading to a net wealth reduction of $70 billion between 2004 and 2008. Wealth and income are different, of course, so it is worth pointing out that another study from 2007 estimated that the state lost $8 billion of gross income in 2005. That’s a huge amount of income that is now beyond the reach of the state’s greedy politicians. Here’s a report from the New Jersey Business News:
More than $70 billion in wealth left New Jersey between 2004 and 2008 as affluent residents moved elsewhere, according to a report released Wednesday that marks a swift reversal of fortune for a state once considered the nation’s wealthiest. Conducted by the Center on Wealth and Philanthropy at Boston College, the report found wealthy households in New Jersey were leaving for other states — mainly Florida, Pennsylvania and New York — at a faster rate than they were being replaced. …The study – the first on interstate wealth migration in the country — noted the state actually saw an influx of $98 billion in the five years preceding 2004. The exodus of wealth, then, local experts and economists concluded, was a reaction to a series of changes in the state’s tax structure — including increases in the income, sales, property and “millionaire” taxes. “This study makes it crystal clear that New Jersey’s tax policies are resulting in a significant decline in the state’s wealth,” said Dennis Bone, chairman of the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce and president of Verizon New Jersey. …In New Jersey, the top 1 percent of taxpayers pay more than 40 percent of the state’s income tax, he said. “That’s probably why we have these massive income shortfalls in the state budget, especially this year,” he said. Until the tax structure is improved, he said, “we’ll probably see a continuation of the trend, until there are no more high-wealth individuals left.” He added the report reinforces findings from a similar study he conducted in 2007 with fellow Rutgers professor Joseph Seneca, which found a sharp acceleration in residents leaving the state. That report, which focused on income rather than wealth, found the state lost nearly $8 billion in gross income in 2005. …Ken Hydock, a certified public accountant with Sobel and Company in Livingston, said in this 30-year-career he’s never seen so many of his wealthy clients leave for “purely tax reasons” for states like Florida, where property taxes are lower and there is no personal income or estate tax. In New Jersey, residents pay an estate tax if their assets amount to more than $675,000. That’s compared to a $3.5 million federal exemption for 2009. Several years ago, he recalled, one of his clients stood to make $60 million from stock options in a company that was being acquired by another. Before he cashed out, however, the client put his home up for sale, moved to Las Vegas, and “never stepped foot back in New Jersey again,” Hydock said. “He avoided paying about $6 million in taxes,” he said. “He passed away two years later and also saved a huge estate tax, so he probably saved $7 million.”
Still not convinced that high tax rates are causing wealth and income to escape from New Jersey? The Wall Street Journal wrote a very powerful editorial about the Boston College study, noting that New Jersey “…was once a fast-growing state but has now joined California and New York as high-tax, high-debt states with budget crises.” But the most powerful part of the editorial was this simple image. Prior to 1976, there was no state income tax in New Jersey. Now, by contrast, highly-productive people are getting fleeced by a 10.75 percent tax rate. No wonder so many of them are leaving.

The trouble is, if we do this on a nationwide scale, as The One is inclined to do, where do you go?
I say let Hollywood and the affluent liberals shoulder the burden voluntarily — let them put their money where their mouth is! Of course, it's not "selfish" or "greedy" for THEM to have money and look for tax loopholes/shelters.
It's more about class warfare, egalitarianism, punishing the successful, and rewarding the failures, than actually increasing revenue. They don't care about a balanced budget or the debt since that will be someone else's problem after they have cashed in their chips.

You go nowhere. Time will resolve the issue. Sock away all you can into retirement plans and live beneath your means until sanity is restored.
Dan Mitchell for President!!!
The more the government tries to find ways to take my money, the more I find ways to hide it.
Teak farming.
At this point, I don't think there can be any doubt that Obama is intentionally and purposely working toward collapsing the system. The body of evidence pointing to this is simply too large to ignore any longer. The man is a Marxist Revolutionary. Bill O'Reiley and the radical Left's self-imposed blindness not withstanding, how can anyone NOT see this? Can anyone tell me one substantive difference between Obama and Hugo Chavez?
You can't install a new government until you tear down the one that is in place. Everything Obama is doing works toward that goal! Open your eyes, people! Ask yourself if you are better off today than you were 4 years ago. Is Government working better or worse than it was 4 years ago? Granted. It wasn't great, but look at it now! And it gets worse every day. The rats are jumping ship. They aren't doing that because their half of the ship is sinking…the whole damned thing is going down!
It's up to us to try and fix this in NOV 2010. Do what's right or we will ALL be swimming with the rats.
Tahiti, Argentina (just because I like it there)…
Or, just stop working and become a receiver of gov $$…

Where's DHass and his Israeli tie-in?
Economics 101 people, how does anyone NOT understand basic math! I agree with you Looking4Sanity, he is doing everything possible to collapse the system and not just piece by piece, he's taking it all down at the same time, this way is mass confusion – I mean really, what crisis do we focus on first, second, third! There are so many to choose from any given day ~
This children in the White House grossly underestimated the intelligence of the average American, along with the false assumption that everyone would stay on the 'hate Bush' train – major fail, we are awake and watching ~
The only things Obama wants diverse and prosperous in our economy is the diverseness of his heavy handed reach, and the prosperity of his coffers to distribute as he sees fit.
Actually… this is just the culmination of Years of work. We've been heading in this direction for a long time. Dems and Repubs have both been moving in this direction! They've been stealing power, our money and our freedoms.
It has become the government against the people. Its no longer 'for' the people anymore.
Brace yourself America, you are about to be schtooped by Barrack…………
I moved to NJ in 1975 and witnessed this train wreck in progress and finally escaped in 2006. There is one aspect of the tax regimen in NJ that is never mentioned: Capital Gains. Cap gains are taxed in NJ as ordinary income, so can be as high as 10+%. Adding salt to the wound, capital losses in a given year can only be recognized to the extent of gains and, most egregious of all, net losses cannot be carried over to future years. These losses simply disappear forever. Oh yeah, let's not forget property taxes among the highest in the US. No wonder "wealth" is fleeing NJ.
And to think George Washington kicked the ass of that abusive, tax-mongering tyrant George III at the Battle of Trenton, on the very ground where the New Jersey State Legislature meets today.
Time for the Second American Revolution, and new NJ Governor Chris Christie (R) is firing the first shots.
Exnj, that's crazy! How can they not have net losses carried over? I'm confused! Glad you got out safe
Sanity, I will half agree with you there; Obama is intentionally and purposely working toward collapsing the system, but it is not because he is a Marxist Revolutionary. He is an imbedded terrorist. He does not believe that these actions will eventually lead to some utopia, nor is he seeking power; he is only seeking to destroy this nation! His ties to Islamic extremism are to numerous to count: his upbringing in Malaysia where he was educated in an Islamic extremist private school, his ties to a known Syrian terrorist supported that was extradited for his real-estate fraud raising millions for terrorism, his support of his Islamic extremist relatives’ rise to political power, his affiliation with a church that preached hatred towards America (and naming that preacher as one of the most influential people in his life), … the list goes on, but you get the picture.
The government's tax and spend policies must come to an end someday. Why not today?
LOL!!!
We should already know that this is a zionist plot. "They" control the banks!
DHass doesn't need to tell us this!!!!!!
I suppose I can see how you could make that case, but I think his "ties" to the Islamic world are nothing more than a happy coincidence for him. They are nothing more than another potential avenue for advancing the agenda of tearing down the system. The man is entirely too self serving to ever really get behind any religion. His only REAL aspirations are to increase his own standing and power. He'll use whatever tool happens to be available at the time to achieve his objective.
Too late. We already have been!

I am not amazed that the administration attacks those who are independent. They have nothing to fear from those who are not. Unless more people can become independent TeaParties ask for change in vain.
Honduras. They understand freedom and the Constitution.
When government unions force taxpayers to pay public "servants" more than us stupid people make trying to make a living, what do you expect? Down with all unions. They bankrupted the car companies and public sector unions are now the fastest growing segment of the economy. The only jobs created by our unqualified affirmative action president are government jobs. All blacks may not be inferior, but this one sure is (or maybe he's just stupid on his hippie mommy's side).
The obamanation obviously learned his lessons well from dirty stalinist Broon.
We in UK are bankrupt many times over and guess who is hovering in the wings, jaws slavering?
You forgot to mention inflation. All that money that you squirrled away? When you unsquirrel it, it'll be worth a lot less.

Take a critical look next time you go to the grocery, how much smaller are the packages, and how much higher are the prices. One of the investments I am making is a closet full of storable food stuffs.
Another place to put your money, is in paying down your mortgage (if you have one). if you are planning on buying any important 'big ticket' items, do it before the $ drops in value.
Just a few ideas. I plan to use my money while it is my money. Buy what you value.

Right you are. Kids in a candy store. Just loot and destory and leave the aftermath to the adults.
At last! A reasonable response. Why can't both the left and right get it through their heads that we independents actually elect our presidents? I saw a piece in the Washington Post the other day saying that democrats are doomed if they don't push through their health care bill that most of we Americans can't stand because it has no cost controls and spells quicker bankruptcy. Are the dems drinking some type of weird koolaid?
MjkaG and Looking4Sanity.
What ever the real reason behind his actions, the fact remains—Collapsing the System is the Goal!

Boy oh boy, I heard him and got a thrill down my spine and I don't live in NJ. Sure hope he is well protected, the unions are angry.

We are not asking……we are demanding.
Just stick together people. Don't let them divide us.
Don't be swayed by the third party idea, there is not time, nor is this the time to form a third party. That would cause us all to lose, like with Clinton. (who is set to attack us)
Just rally behind the best conservative candidate you can find in your area. They may not be perfect ,but will be a heck of a lot better than some of what we have.
What stunned me was when, in the video, Obama said he was willing to do it solely "for purposes of fairness".
What's "fair" about stealing? Only a marxist tyrant would think that stealing makes things "fair"!
"The moment the idea is admitted into society that property is not as sacred as the laws of God, and that there is not a force of law and public justice to protect it, anarchy and tyranny commence. If `Thou shalt not covet' and `Thou shalt not steal' were not commandments of Heaven, they must be made inviolable precepts in every society before it can be civilized or made free." — John Adams (A Defense of the American Constitutions, 1787)

I've been studying the writings of "progressives" for awhile now, all the way back to their roots. The fact is that they don't believe in individual rights — the kind embodied in the Bill of Rights in our Constitution. They only believe in the "rights" of the collective. That's why Soros and other progressives constantly promote "democracy", which is just a socially acceptable term for populist mob rule! They see us all as just a "seven of nine" in the Borg collective. We only have value and worth based upon how much we contribute to the collective. That's why the unborn, the infirm, and the elderly are to be discarded — literally! They are tyrants to the core — even last stinking one of them!
Forget NJ – focus on Californication!
The loony-left d-crat socialists in the california legislature are ahead of those in washington. Their tax-and-spend death spiral has led california to the end of the loonies' "Road to Hell" first in the nation. Unfortunately, the washington loony-left socialists are close behind in their rush to do the same for the entire country.
The "War-on-Wealth" policies of the marxist drug addict and his hopelessly hopeless loony-left socialist d-crat sycophants are poised to cause great harm to the US economy.
We all will soon experience the dreadful consequences of the irresponsible pork-a-palooza and socialist welfare boondoggle hussein, the feckless fed and and the other loony-left d-crats, are pursuing. This "generational theft" will curtail economic growth and hobble the economy for decades. Welcome to the new and improved great depression. As the economy burns, hussein and pelosi wastefully spend the earnings of future generations as they drive the country down their "Road to Hell".
Let the morally, ethically, socially, politically and economically bankrupt california be the final straw – Americans must take back our country from the incompetent and irresponsible loony-left d-crat socialists before they bankrupt us all!
How can most of the people commenting be so terrified of Obama? We have an election coming up here in a few months and we have a real opportunity to get rid of one party government. Didn't work so well with Bush (who I voted for the first time). Why would anyone think it would work with Obama? Additionally, a good column but the use of the word "death tax" offends many independents like myself. Call it what it is, an estate tax. Trying to use hot button words in the place of a term used for decades makes you look like a carnival barker trying to sell tickets to win a teddy bear. Make your argument sans the cheap shot.
They could be worth much more than that if you are not picky about who you sell them to….
Can somebody tell me what is so wrong about having all workers become union members….

Great idea. I'll let him know.
Don't bother… he knows.
I think property tax is going to be a real issue going forward for the local municipalities. With property prices correcting there is a real disconnect between prices and property tax, especially for all the new construction sold between 2002 and 2007.
He's well on his way.

O'Malley was left with a balanced budget by the out going Republic Governor. So he raised the sales tax 1.5% on services as well as goods, which drove much Business out of the State. Then he did the above mentioned trick.
Now the State is in big Debt. He must be oDumbo's brother.

Sock away? Yes. Tax Qualified retirement plans??? I beg to differ Connie. A big no right now. The IRA and qualified money rules are quite simple. Your money is still the govt's money. They tell you how and when to put it in. How and when to take it out. What it will cost you to take it out and so on. And people still think it is their money.
Add to that the fact that under Obama, income tax rates will increase when the Bush cuts are sunsetted. Take the income now and forgo the deduction. Taxes are only going to go higher and you will still get soaked when you retire and need the money.
Take the money today and then sock it somewhere safe!!
The IRS would beg to differ.

The Progressives only see their version of a "MILK AND HONEY" future. Past failed policies are ignored because the latest batch of Progressive legislators think they are smarter than those in the past. That is the M.O. of progressives, they are convinced that their intelect's are greater than everyone else's. It's how they justify their "DO AS I SAY, NOT AS I DO" mentality because us little people need their expertise in all things.

I understand your concern for Christie, but us New York/New Jersey boys learn early how to deal with thugs.
There's always a lot of "bent nose" bullies in the neighborhood, but they back down when you stand up to them.
Christie is a former prosecutor – he's used to making 'enemies' of the bad guys.
The aspect of progressive income taxation that I never hear mentioned – by Republicans, even – is that it is immoral. Progressive income taxation is government institutionalized covetousness. There is a reason that the Commandments begin, "I am The Lord your God" and end, "You shall not covet anything that is your neighbor's." In fact, quite a few commands concern covetousness, because covetousness is the root sin that leads to all the others – thefts, murders, adulteries and the like. If you don't evolve to the point that you understand that it is none of your business who God blesses with what, you can never make any spiritual progress toward knowing God.
So, we have our nation run by a bunch of covetous politicians who just want our money to play with, basically, when the only legitimate things a government can tax are transactions – and that at a total rate not to exceed God's 10% – income taxes are immoral, property taxes are immoral, inheritance taxes are immoral, et fraking cetera.
I lived in NJ for 52 years before finally escaping just before New Years. I planned the escape for several years and as I drove west over the bridge on Route 80 at the Delaware Water Gap I felt reborn. As I settle into my new home in the beautiful mountains of Utah I feel cleansed and renewed to be away from the corruption and incompetent leadership that has had a strangle hold on NJ for decade.
The state fleeced me when I owned a business for 25 years with ridiculous taxes, fees and regulation. My town fleeced me with huge property taxes. And the state fleeced again one last time with their confiscatory 'EXIT" tax.
I left my NJ home with its 11K/yr property taxes and bought a bigger, nicer, newer house and my property taxes are 2K/yr. Practically everyone I know in NJ in the 50-60 age demographic is planning to move out of state.
Last one out, turn out the lights.

Governor Christie may have some limited success, but like Arnold, he is dealing with a state where the left (Dems, public sector unions, leftist newspapers and TV news stations) are ultimately too powerful to defeat. They will utlimately crush him, and drive NJ over a cliff.
But the Democrats do not see this flight of wealth as a problem, they see it as a blessing. As the wealth flees, it also means that it is disproportionaely Republicans who are fleeing. The large and growing disparity between registered Dems and registered Republicans grows ever larger.
For the Socialists (Dems) this is not about improving the lives of their constituents. It is about achieving perpetual power and turning NJ into a one-party Socialist state.
To paraphrase Gus Hall "they may come reluctantly but they will all come eventually."

Why have Glen Beck and Bill O'Reilly both recently tried to warn against the "fringe lunatics" in the Tea Party movement? Why have they both spoken very derisively about "birthers" completely ignoring the fact that a very large percentage of the American People have serious questions about Obama's past and his eligibility to be POTUS? Whose side are they on? Are they trying to set the agenda for the Tea Party Movement? Who do they work for? Wanna know then follow the money. As it so happens, both Glen Beck and O'Reilly are living in a glass house, as they are both on the Saudi payroll via Fox News and have therefore been seriously compromised. Nope. I believe that there should be no discrimination for any race that wants to kill themselves off.
Liberalism is coming to an end the problem is, can we survive three more years of this insanity?
Economic Law followed for centuries proves that Dan Mitchell is right by suggesting that Obama will do to America What Corzine Did to New Jersey? If obama's Executive Orders not not soon repealed and stopped from reoccurring as soon as possible, he will have beaten his terrorist brothers that he trained with in Indonesia to economically destroy America and, without his even firing a shot at us; that is except putting our soldiers in Islamic counties to fight a war with them with our soldiers hands tied behind their backs as they die! Been in that position myself once and I was just lucky, though no thanks to my Government!
I'm not anywhere close to rich. I'm just living paycheck to paycheck…like always, and thankful to have a job. Maybe if D.C. didn't take so much out of the economy and give it to the vampires feeding at the public juglar, we'd have more to go around, which would enable us to better take care of our families. Every inflation prone dollar I spend, I spend out of neccessity. If I could keep more of my own money, I'd improve the lives of my children and wife, which would actually be a good thing for businesses. Then they'd grow, hire more employees, and the economy would improve. Instead, D.C. wants to tax business owners so they cannot grow, and tax the middle class so they can't spend. Brilliant! Keep redistributing wealth to those poor unfortunate who whould rather not work as well as the merchants of death. I'm a patriotic American, but Ido not believe we should have bases in 2/3's of the countries in the world. Where in the Constitution does it say that we need to be a globe encompassing Empire?
