ACORN Is a Symptom, Big Government Is the Disease
by Dan MitchellBy overturning the rock and letting America witness the corruption at ACORN, Hannah and James have performed an incredibly valuable service. The rest of us now have an obligation to take the next steps. Shutting off the federal spigot to ACORN obviously is the immediate priority, but it is critically important that we also use this episode to explain that big government is inherently corrupt. The graft at ACORN was not an isolated example. The sleaze at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were not exceptions. The pay-to-play scandals at the Appropriations Committees are not once-in-a-lifetime occurences.
As explained in this short video (alas, no exciting undercover revelations), the government’s bloated budget of nearly $4 trillion is a honeypot for special interests and their political lackeys. But it is not just a problem of wasteful spending. The massive regulatory apparatus creates similar opportunities for favor swapping and insider deals. And the tax code, with tens of thousands of pages of loopholes and special preferences, also is a rat’s nest of corruption.

Government is not the solution. Government is the problem!
This guy makes really good videos that should be required watching for students across the country.
It's apparent that ACORN is just a tiny symptom of a larger problem. We are just barely scratching the surface.
I have to laugh at my friends who voted for Obama because they were upset about the corruption in government. You don't fix government corruption by voting for bigger government.

Charlie Rangel never had a decent high paying job, congressional clunker forever … Now a multimillionaire. How exactly does that happen? I think you know.
It's high time these congressional clunkers get the jail time they earned.
And don't even bring up the name Murtha …
How will this nation ever survive this corruption?
Move Government back to the States back to the People where it belongs. The founding Fathers warned us, they wrote letters they gave speeches, they stood in front of the congregation and Preached do not let Government consolidate power in one place. They wrote a Constitution that dispersed power. WE THE PEOPLE need to stand up for the Constitution.
An excellent and important point that those of us favoring limited government need to keep in mind. Fundamentally, it's not ACORN that is the enemy, but the system that makes ACORN possible. Government must be reduced to its proper role of protecting individual rights and nothing else, or we'll see more-and-more Atlas Shrugged-like scenarios such as those we've been treated to over the past year.
The states need to assert their 9th and 10th Amendment Rights ASAP. This would be a last resort strategy before secession.
The sad thing here is that we are taking on a monstrosity. It is discouraging and irritating that we even have to do this, but I am encouraged by all the other commenters here. This is so emotionally draining sometimes that it takes away from what we should be focussing on.
Easy, One person at a time, stands up and says "I''m Not Going To Take This Anymore" and makes congress listen. They have no more power than what you chose to give them.
I don't see how anything can change the status-quo without a HUGE, and I mean millons upon millions, march on Washington.
"It is ime for all good men to stand and be counted."

What if all levels of govenment, city, county, state and federal took a two-year vacation…no new laws passed for two years? Then review all laws currently on the books and eliminate those that are no longer needed or are so hard to understand that they can't be followed anyway.
We, the citizens of the United States of America, aware of our civil rights and in an effort to stop funding to corrupt organizations, hereby express our disapproval of the US Governments lack of attention to the corruption within.
We are aware of the corruption within Acorn, who has received more then 53 million of our tax dollars. We feel corruption exist in many offices and branches of the US Government. We have made repeated attempts to express our concerns, these attempts have been well documented. We feel our immediate and long term future is in jeopardy if this issue is not addressed immediately.
On the basis of the above, we respectfully call on Congress to pass legislation that mandates the immediate investigation of all offices and branches of the US Government. "Corruption Elimination Act" We also request that any party suspected of corrupt activities be immediately suspended of their duties until a thorough investigation is done.
If immediate action is not taken, we will be forced to pursue our legal rights and potentially take part in a Class Action lawsuit against the US Government. We hope our Voices will be heard, and this matter can be resolved in a timely manner.

This must be a united effort consisting of conservatives AND liberals (not left wing hacks) who love their country. Democrats and Republicans need not apply. Americans who honor the constitution. I'm just reminding everyone here it's not a liberal/leftwing problem, it's a criminal problem.
Alinksy Rule #13. Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it and polarize it.
TARGET –> The Government-Hollywood-Media Complex
TIme for taxpayer to push back. Government is the cancer in the society. Rampant looting, interest group subsidies and corrupt officials the likes of Rangel, Murtha, Reid, Dodd, Fenstein, Boxer and Waters under the tutelage of Pelosi will destroy this country not terrorism.
The problems that are apparent with ACORN are in all forms of our government. Without the widespread corruption in government the problems with ACORN and other groups would not be tolerated and the organization would be held to standards or fade away.
I demand Congressional hearings into the corruption within ACORN and the spin off organizations with 2 purposes.
1) get to the truth with the ACORN corruption.
2) Look at all politicians and their ties to ACORN corruption and at least oust the corrupt politicians.
He illustrated perfectly the central arguements for Libertarianism.
The question is – HOW do you wrest power and influence from the powerful corrupt? What is the likelihood they would even vote for term limits? What is their incentive to undo their kingdom?
Your "eliminate corruption" is someone else's "take away my food stamps so a billionaire can buy another yacht". Or that's how they see it.
As soon as you can convince a non-taxpaying, EITC/Foodstamp/SSI/Medicare receiving citizen to support this you're home free.
I read a good article by Frank Luntz this weekend addressing the disconnect between what DC perceives Americans are (racists) and what they actually are (furious). You might be interested in it:

I’m going to say this again…..e-mail congress and house each and every day. Let them know we’re watching. Make our demands heard on ACORN and tell them we will not compromise. DO it yourself and enlist your friends and neighbors too.
And when the 2010 elections rolls around vote their sorry asses out! DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS. NO TIME TO SORT THE GOOD FROM THE BAD IF WE WANT TO SAVE OUR COUNTRY. No time to waste. We’ve been asleep too long as it is.
Exactly – and unfortunately this administration has turned the balance so that the number of those who pay taxes is less than those who do not…..thus those who do not can vote themselves more of our stuff…..
Thank goodness for the great work at http://biggovernment.com
great work! keep it up guys and girls. good to see the georgia bulldog tie representation. go dawgs
Over here in Wisconsin they are pushing a novel idea. They want art exhibitions to be placed inside polling locations. Now it all makes sense!!!!!!!! This was last year if I remember correctly. That ONE and his party are criminals!!
ACORN is s symptom alright. It is also a fine example.
ACORN is an excellent example of just what "progressive" minds will do to advance the Marxist agenda: "EMBRACE MARXISM? YES! WE! CAN!" at http://firebreathingchristian.wordpress.com/2009/...
A willingness to break rules *is* a rule for these folks. The ends justify enay means. ACORN's management style was in complete harmony with the typical pro-Marxism revolutionary approach, which is: Do whatever must be done.
This is a great video and so very truthful! I will send this to everyone I know to get the word out. Because of people like Andrew, James, Hannah and many of the REAL journalists that contribute to this site that I am beginning to feel real hope. Journalism isn't dead, and this country is not a lost cause. Keep up the good work you guys!

It's a start, we need more.
update from the front lines in Afghanistan….our boys want Obama to be tried for treason. He is now officially working against them.
OK let's talk about how to reduce the size of government. How do we do it?
Just think. Could it be that the noticeable increase in lobbyists over the years is proportionate to the number of politicians we have managed to vote out of office? Or perhaps proportionate to the amount of power these "leaders" are managing to siphon off for themselves? Perhaps even proportionate to the amount of overspending?
It's said power corrupts and that absolute power corrupts absolutely. No doubt the framers of the constitution intended that government would remain small as a means to stifle corruption. Sadly the time has passed, it would seem, when the task would have been manageable. Now it seems we are left shouting and picketing simply to get them to play nice and pretend they are listening to us. When we are too tired and downtrodden to put up a fight they will resume their conquest.
I only see one way to turn this around and it involves the majority of the people in this nation waking up. They are dividing us and pitting the American people against each other for the expressed purpose of distracting us from what is going on, usually behind closed doors. "United we stand – divided we fall"
Good thing spray paint is so cheap.
Voting them out sounds so good, but what will we be replacing them with? We need the people of this nation voting on character rather than skin color or campaign promises. We need to elect real leaders who represent the people and say what they mean and mean what they say. We are sick of bored millionaires, conniving and scheming lawyers and politicians (career or otherwise) who lip sync to the polls, blowing smoke up our backsides, while they take liberty with our constitution because this or that was not specifically prohibited. We need people in office who value the constitution as our foundation rather than an obstacle. Those who wish to see our nation restored to its former glory as provided to us by God almighty.
We shouldn't loose hope. These people, provided with the right information, may yet come to realize what they are giving in exchange for their false sense of security. Freedom. Use it or loose it.
Remove ALL the incumbents and lets see what can be done. Perhaps once they are more disorganized than we are we will have the time to train them properly. If anything it will send a very real chill up the spines of those that are left that they better begin responding to our needs and wishes or they will be next.
Let's clean house in the government and see how they like being thrown to the curb and ignored.
Exactly. I was not a McCain fan any more than I was a Bush fan but considering the imbalance of power in government the logical choice would have been to restore some semblance balance. A republican President would have provided a last defense against bills like this latest monstrosity of a "health care "reform" bill. Many people were made to hate Bush but he protected us against the "comprehensive" immigration bill that all but ignored the border problem and Hillary's SCHIP nightmare that would have made RF implants mandatory for children.
This entire series of videos is extremely well done. Spread it around!
If we band together, can we get this done? I mean make gov't smaller? Ya think?
