Obama’s Labor Department Gives Big Labor and Its Front Groups Another Gift
by Don LoosThursday, the Obama Administration announced that it will rescind rules requiring the disclosure of financial information for Big Labor slush funds and front groups. And, the Obama Administration is giving you only 11 (eleven) days to comment!
At least they are consistent! Just as they did for union conflict-of-interest disclosure reporting that SEIU’s Andy Stern may be ignoring and just as it rescinded union-boss perk disclosures, the Obama Administration continues to rollback union financial disclosures.

It is not surprising that Obama’s Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis would rescind these financial disclosure rules since she is the former treasurer of the Big Labor funded American Rights at Work (ARAW) lobbying and political group. These disclosures would reveal much about the group’s expenditures on behalf Big Labor’s agenda; the very types of expenditures Solis would have signed-off on as ARAW Treasurer.
Union officials have fought these financial disclosures since 2003. One of the AFL-CIO lawyers involved in opposing these disclosure requirements was Deborah Greenfield. Now, Greenfield is the Obama Administration’s Acting Deputy Solicitor of Labor and Director of the Office of the Secretariat. As Deputy Solicitor, Greenfield oversees these regulations.
This looks like the same old Washington insider influence that Presidential Candidate Obama, President-Elect Obama, and President Obama promised that he would not allow.
But, there is more. Not only are Solis and lawyer Greenfield potentially violating President Obama’s declared prohibition against conflicts-of-interest, there are many more union insiders at the Department. The Senior Advisor to Department of Labor Secretary Hilda Solis, Mary Beth Maxwell, greatly benefits from this rescission because she was the Executive Director of ARAW. ARAW’s financial activities while Maxwell was in charge are currently due to be disclosed. However, in eleven days these ARAW financial disclosures will be lost forever.
If you want to take action, you have eleven days to make your comments and to demand that the DOL stop this nonsense.
To comment on these regulations at the official site, click here, your comments should be identified by RIN 1215-AB75 (Document ID LMSO-2009-0004-0001). Click Submit Comment next to the pencil and paper image.
ACT NOW, if you want to be heard. And, please feel free to comment on BigGovernment.com comments section below and share with us your actions.

Obama Administration+Unions=Corruption.
Not too complicated.

It's amazing, the job creation seminar and seance reading was just yesterday.
More transparency in government.
Technically, he is keeping that promise. People are beginning to see right through him.
SIGH ! Is there NO END to these filthy lying America-hating corrupt Obama bastards ? Hope and Change at its finest hour !
Where oh where is the America we grew up in, loved and were proud of ? Obama is pur evil.
The thing is, most people will never even know it happened and wouldn't know why it matters. Totally crooked and a huge conflict of interest, and it will go by without a mention from MSM. Sick.
Just another gear in the Chicago Daily machine expanded to all of the ‘57 states’. This invites all kinds of corruption and the Democrats will be held solely accountable for it.
are you saying that unions will no longer be required to post public LM-2 Financial reports???? If this is true, then it is more than corrupt and criminal….I have printed off copies of several 2008 LM2 reports, and I am shocked to see how much membership funds were spent on gifts, political donations, organizing, and perks…….multimillions are spent on these activities every year….and they should be disclosed, especially, since they spend more than most businesses to get favors from their DNC comrades….remeber "workers of the world unite?". The WH is up to their eyeballs in reciprocity and favors to these unions for organizing and orchestratuing their election. We need full disclosure of revenue and expenses, balance sheets and salaries…..just like private companies must report. especially when a President of the NEA teachers union makes more than 500,000 per year.

The links are on this page and it's the perfect opportunity to go to the website and express your outrage over not only the level of corruption coming out of Obama's labor department but also your outrage over the balatant theft of the 787billion dollar stimu-less money used to pay off Barak Obama's union cronies.
I had over heard this awhile back, some where around March, & I've keep this going, Health Care is a smoke screen! Yah, he wants it passed but the Administration also knows it would take a huge amount of effort & would tie up the House, Senate & the public. Meanwhile the Administration, an unprecedented number of whom don't have to be confirmed by Congress, are changing everything from the inside, quietly.
So Unions get a pass on conflict-of-interest, perk disclosures, disclosure of financial information… Why wouldn't that apply to all companies?
Let me see if I understand this… Unions are getting more power to force citizens to join Unions, which forces (in most states) individuals to pay dues to the union in order to work, so that unions can use the dues collected in secretive ways?
I guess the next step will be the government saying it doesn't have to disclose how it spends our tax money…!!!!!!
I guess Unions are exempt from receiving wire taps too?
I know, I'm sounding like a conspiracy theorists but so many of these "conspiracies" or no longer conspiracies but fact (ACORN, Van Jones, Climategate…..).
or how about:
Obama X Unions X ACRON = Corruption Cubed
Looks like the only accountability is going to have to be the dues paying union members themselves.
I guess this explains why the union leadership endores single payer, government run healthcare. They don't want their premiums rising after members start seeking treatment for all those broken kneecaps when they start asking questions about where their money is going.
Guess it's up to the Justice Department now.
Yes, & that is what they DO report. Increase that by about 20-50% & you'll be closer to the real numbers.
To be fair, Obama needs to do something to payoff his union buddies. I mean after all, they did get him elected. No one should really be surprised by this, it's par for the course for this crowd. We can all be thankfull we have a few real journalists out there who are willing to report this stuff so the public is at least aware of the rampant corruption occurring in Washington. Join the fight to take back America from an out of control government at – – - http://www.GrassRootsNation.com.
Remember, there are several reasons that the Executive Branch can spend our tax dollars & not report it. Rules for fiscal reporting for the President are extremely vague & there are ways to circumvent the checks & balances that are in place.

I am totally pissed! I am not willing to sit still any longer while they cram this crap down my throat. I am gagging already and this union shit is making me now puke! Stop it…Mr. Obama, come on man…give us a break!
I submitted a comment at the site. It's pretty easy. I'd like to know a little more about who oversees those comments and if it's a third party, or if they just go to the Department of Labor, who I'm sure won't be a fan of my comment. Does anyone know?
This might be the only way to get this thing knocked down. I hope everybody that reads this posts one. It only takes a couple minutes.
Obama Administration + Unions = Corruption Squared = priceless
From the comments section:
"When will I be able to view my comment online?
Your comment has been sent to the agency… and will be available on Regulations.gov once it has been processed. Given certain regulations may have thousands of comments, ==>processing may take several weeks<== before it can be viewed online.
Several WEEKS to process? Nice way to make damned sure that a self imposed deadline passes BEFORE all the comments can be "processed"!! And NO, I do NOT believe that the "available for viewing" is the only part that is constrained by the process.
The ONLY Transparency I see from this Administration is a Transparent Refusal to listen to dissenting opinions.
What ever happened to Obama's campaign vow of "no more business as usual in Washington when I am President". Seems to me "business" in Washington is booming since he became President.
Like you I also submitted a comment, but I think that they are received by DOL. Just like "saved jobs" and the Obamacare cost savings, I suspect that, after they finish reviewing the comments, they will report that all of them supported passing and enacting the rule change. I also suspect that there are many many union workers "stuffing" the comment "box" this very moment.
The question is, why is aren't any of our so called "watch dogs" in the house or senate barking??
Obama X Unions X ACON X UEA = Corruption to the 3rd Power
Because they are ALL complicit. Barry is patting the watchdogs on the head.
They were trying to invoke the spirit of Ted Kennedy again?
It's the CHICAGO WAY!!! Is anyone really surprised by this? Change and hope. mmm..mmm…mmm!!
You've got that right brother!! and what ever happened to things like singing "Christmas Carols" this time of year in our schools. Now they can't even mention Christ (unless they are swearing) but it's OK to sing "rap" songs about Obama….disgusting!!!
I wonder if the townhall meeting today in Allentown, Penn. will be stacked with busloads of SEIU people cheering for the job recovery thats happened? No one should be surprised at the corruption thats happening. The cockroaches have all crawled out of their woodwork since the "Queen" cockroach (obama) took office.
this is a travesty – we should only support open and transparent organizations, not allowing anyone to hide what money they get or what money they spend.
It wouldn't surprise me if the complaints were being forwarded to Holder's Department of (In)Justice, since being anti-union is now being anti-American.
OK but, I gotta stop there, I'm from da south
As an ex-union member, skilled trades, I do not believe that card check is necessary and the Obama administration is just using this as a means to "get more power". Please people, turn down this card check thing because it is bad for America. People will unionize if the company is down right bad for them related to their working conditions but for the most part, companies want to help employees make a decent living and don't need to be card checked.
Copperpeony…Yes he still has enough bodies to make up his crowd for a town hall. He is now taking his select staged questions and then we hear the campaign speech for an answer. Pretty sickening.
You've got that right, I think they've all been neutered and now they are all Barry's "bitches".
As a current skilled worker in a union shop, but a right to work state, I would say that card check should NEVER be used. TaterSalad is VERY correct about the workers being smart enough to CHOOSE to ask for help against a bad company. That being said I cannot see any company worth working for in this day and age who would do anything to CAUSE their workforce to want to unionize!
Makes one wonder if you could have the ACLU sue to stop them singing about our Dear Leader since they are deifying him…. HHMMMMM?????
Maybe they will use the same computer program to tabulate the comments that they used for climate change……
The White House Party Crasher debacle is a perfect picture of what is wrong with Washington D.C. at this time. Our Washington politicians have always played the blame game and failed to take responsibility whether they were on the left or the right side of the political aisle. Yet this Party Crasher issue is a picture of why we have government spending that is out of control and a government power grab of a magnitude that has not been seen since the days of the original Tea Party in Boston Harbor.
What do we notice first about this situation? We hear cries of foul because these two crashers were connected to a "reality show." The Elite of Washington are asking how could our country's White House be lowered to the level of a Reality show? Whats next they are asking commoners in the Hamptons or vacationing at Martha's Vineyard? This is an example of how our key leaders attempt to divert our attention from the facts and attempt to mislead the public outside of the Beltway. They failed to admit that the White House had already been host to the several reality shows including a food cook off and an edition of the "Biggest Loser." Currently the NFL has a commercial running with President Obama running a pass route to catch a pass from Drew Brees. When TBS was starting their Lopez late night talk show he did a promo spot for the show. These examples and many other are perfect examples of why it seemed only a matter of time for something like this to happen but the principle here for us to notice is how the people have attempted to divert our attention from the facts and the real issue just like a child might that had just got caught with their hand in a cookie jar.
Secondly we notice from this situation how many of our politicians need to learn the 12-Step Recovery process that starts with personal responsibility and understanding I have a problem.White House social secretary Desiree Rogers who is the first Secretary to it seems to have ever walked the Red Carpet in Washington as an honored guest with the other dignataries at the State Dinner. She was as much of a Party Crasher as the other couple. Instead of being about her dutiesas a social secretary she crashed the party as a dignitary and socialite. The principle here is that she forgot her role and her responsibilities. Most politicians forget their role and responsibilities when they get to Washington. Then when it catches up with them they fail to take responsibility for their actions or lack of actions just like Ms. Rogers has even going to the point of attempting to invoke Executive Privilege so she will not have to explain why she was not out working instead of crashing the state dinner.
Yes, this was a huge security breach and all one has to do is watch the Borne Ultimatum or a host of other movies to understand what an uninvited guest could actually do to a State Dinner. If something biological would have been released we could have Pelosi as President today because of all the higher chain of command being at that dinner! Thats how serious this was! Yet, even as serious as the security breach was this situation is serious on so many more levels. It shows the symptoms of so many larger problems than just wannabe reality show contestants wanting to get into where the Elite are dining.
Maybe this will be the last straw for the ever decreasing union membership…it is the members money being spent against their best interests, secretly. I wouldn't put up with it if I were them. Throw the unions out.
Did he say transparent? … Sorry, he meant invisible, as in "we won't let you see what we're doing."
When the American people have been pushed to our limits, maybe we should take our anger out on the more accessible targets, such as the Unions. This is the unholy alliance free people should not just condemn, but destroy.
Think I disagree with the Math, Cowboy. I'd say:
Obama Administration = Corruption.
Unions = Corruption
Obama Administration + Unions = Corruption Squared
This kind of thing is to be expected. Also to be expected is their disregarding any input we may have about the favoritism they show labor unions. The thing we should be doing now is consolidating our power for the upcoming elections moreover we need to begin reviewing possible candidates and preparing for the nomination process.
Corrupt unions combined with a corrupt President. Can anyone be surprised?
I just posted a comment to the regulations.gov site and to my Washington reps. I also sent it, with an explanation to put it in context, to my personal email distribution list, asking them to also plug in and enlist others they know, too. Everyone on this blog should do the same!!!
FYI, the comment I sent, follows…
There are only 11 days to respond! I strongly disagree with the 29 CFR Parts 403 and 408 RIN 1215–AB75 proposal to delay the filing due date of the Form T–1, Trust Annual Report.
The initial establishment of Form T–1 with the final rule published on October 2, 2008, 73 FR 57412, was entirely appropriate. The Department should not have proposed withdrawing the Form in early 2009. Had I known of that activity then, and of the July public hearing, I would have expressed my opposition at both of those times.
A Union is no more a Private entity than a similarly sized corporation, and many times a Union may have even more "stockholders" i.e., members, than a corporation. They should be subjected to scrutiny that allows members and protectors of the public interest to review their financial activities. Period.
Do NOT allow any further implementation delay of the filing requirement!!
Please intercede!
It's like living in bizzaro world.
"We must reduce the debt, to do that we must spend"
"We will be the most transparent adminstration ever, to do that we will make sure no one gets a good look at anything"
I think it's an infinitey problem, not matter how corrupt you calculate him to be Obama will prove he has no limit.
Corruption to the 3rd is the same thing as corruption cubed buddy. I believe you meant corruption to the Fourth. Of course, you could do a Bush x Ken Lay x Blackwater x Halliburton x Monsanto type of equation…
Substantive policy discussions anyone?
His name is Barack.
Obama became President because he hates America? I am sorry for your ignorance.
Oh Holy Night, the Christian right is ignorant, paranoid, and hypocritical. The Democrats fight for freedom of religion for all. I guess your problem is that "all" is different from "only Christians."
You are a joke. Please take an informal logic course ASAP and learn about the "guilt by association" fallacy.
Shaking.
My.
Head.
Have you been to Chicago? Too busy fellating Glenn Beck I see. You'll feel bad about your ignorant comments some day.
Barrock.
Ok. Got it.
Poor stupid James. Religion hung Jesus on the cross. Christianity is not a religion. It is a way of life lived by faith in Jesus. "they were first called Christians at Antioch, for they acted like Jesus".
The Sanhedrin were religious.
This country was founded on Christian principles and this country was dedicated at Jamestown,Va to Christ for his work and missionary work in the 1600's.
All that junk outside of Christianity is religions. The democrats want every thing other than Christians to be free in this country.
I'd love to comment on my displeasure on these regulations at the official site of DOLbut I'm afraid to leave my name and address on the site, as required, to make a comment. I'm afraid of what might happen to me if I express an opposing position.
Very simple. OhBummer is getting his troops ready to steal the next election and the next election and the next election. His major weapon is money —- and makling sure that stolen [tax] funds wind up in the hands of his allies and cronies is critical to maintaining OhBummer's stranglehold on the government and the country.
You danged Republicans had better not be asleep at the wheel and you'd better be ready to STRIP ACORN and all of its affiliates of tax money now —- to best cripple OhBummer's election-hijacking machine.
Anything that can be done to cripple the unions is also a wonderful idea —- those sticky-fingered thieving thugs belong in jail —- not marching around with whining political signs and blocking traffic and mooing like lost cows because they are being denied access to their neighbors' wallets. Bust these skunks right down to the ground!

I just tried to leave a comment-they wouldn’t accept it because of their “GOVERNMENT ORGANIZATION” requirement. Sounds to me like they are getting way 2 many complaints. And, it’seasierfor them to ignore them by making this requirement. They can’t ignore the fact in 2010&2012 they’ll be run out of office like the “cockroaches” they are!
The coments go to DOL and they are supposed to review the comments and provide reasons for rejecting your comments (assuming that they will reject it). DOL is also supposed to respond to every comment and they will try to make their response as blanketing as possible to cover as many commments with one response is possible. DOL can be challenged if they fail to repond.

Obama must be impeached before our society is totally down the drain. The union workers are being stabbed in the back but are too brainwashed to realize it. Obama better hope they don’t wake up.
