Interview with the NRA on the DISCLOSE Act
by Dana Loesch“We had to put the Second Amendment over the First Amendment.” (7:21)
Yes, it’s common sense to credit the NRA for its involvement with the McDonald vs Chicago case and its fight for the Second Amendment, which, I think, would have been infringed upon even greater longer ago without the NRA.
However.
I don’t like what I’m seeing with the NRA on this – and their wish to protect the Second Amendment by way of seeking exemption under DISCLOSE is nullified if they traded exemption for silence on the hearing of an anti-gun Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan as part of of the deal.
You can’t be non-partisan because the Second Amendment, in current society, is not a bipartisan issue.
By silencing yourself, ironically, on an issue for exemption so that you don’t have to be silenced later on is playing with the First Amendment whether you realize it or not.
I laid out the rest of my and your concerns in the interview. Whole show podcast available here, 6/28 first hour.

This is the biggest mistake the NRA has ever made. When they come for the guns, there won't be anyone able to say anything in their defense — because of this. The only thing they have won is a reprieve.
Thank you Dana, your contributions have been missed here.

I would have to concur with that statement. It is akin to Bush making the jumbled, mumbled statement that in order to save Capitalism, he had to destroy it with TARP. Some things just do not wash, or pass the smell test.
Even the reporter announcing the decision yesterday, had to admit that the gun ban in Chicago had made no difference in the deaths there. I guess some people want only the criminals to have guns; they will acquire them no matter what.
The 1st and 2nd Amendment are equally important, and one is NOT sustainable without the other. If you give up one to protect the other, you will surely lose them both. When you've got the first two Amendments , the others will naturally follow.
Here is some big news: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/arti...
We ought always remember, if it weren't for men like this, there would be no Second Amendment, or any other Amendments for that matter.
Here is a theme song for U.S. all. I knew it would not take very long for the left to start attacking our rights given to US by our founders. Some things will never change. Let US oust these parasites in November. This is why our founders gave US the second amendment, so we could protect ourselves from a government that would try to control us. http://bandofpatriots.us/
Also, this needs to be on all of our protest signs as well.
The NRA seems to go back and forth between competent and stupid, is the leadership bi-polar?
Off topic. Washington State Governor Christina Gregoire is going to DC to beg for bail out cash. Call your reps and senators and tell them to say NO !!! I don't know if it will do any good, but it can't hurt.
Inside the beltway too long……….X
I have been a NRA member most of my adult life but his is the last straw. This along with the support of Harry Reid and John McCain is more than I can bear. They have the most powerful lobby in DC and 5 million members to back them up. They should be kicking ass and taking names in this political climate. But instead they get in bed with the very people that want to shut us down.
I'm an NRA member and I'm not happy with what they did. However I do understand the tactics of why they did what they did. If we do not have the second amendment we won't have the first amendment either. If we loose the first amendment we can take it back with the second amendment. The second amendment is the guardian of the Bill of Rights. It is the failsafe our founding fathers gave us. As George Washington said "It's the people's liberty's teeth".
Don't forget, they are also endorsing the Democrat Ted Strickland over the Republican John Kasich for governor here in Ohio. And I agree with you, the NRA is beginning to frustrate me as well.
Stay in touch with the one true patriot bus coming to a town or city near you. God Bless America.

I'm a Life Member of the NRA and very disappointed in my organization. However, they give me cause, often, to be disappointed, as they frequently endorse a Democrat when they could endorse an equally pro-Second Amendment Republican.
I have let my membership expire, and I will never contribute another penny to their cause. I don't accept robbing Peter to pay Paul. I dispise the disclosure act, and feel that Kagan is a far left progressive.
Yes, I did listen to the recording. I just find the explaination for the NRA's actions unacceptable.
I would alter one of your points.
// "If we loose the first amendment we can take it back with the second amendment. " //
If we lose the 1st , we will soon lose the 2nd. Best use the 2nd to make sure we KEEP the 1st. Still, I don't think we should have to compromise on either.
Oh right, but she has decided to spend millions and millions on a tunnel connecting Seattle to wherever and has spent millions on a high tech rail system in Seattle. She is another one of those that writes checks with no money in the bank account but has cut school programs, closed schools and is taxing us to death.
God spare us from progressive morons.
The corruption knows no bounds. I wonder what deal they struck with those progressives they are supporting. The NRA needs to be cleaned of all cockroaches.
They could be even more powerful, if they were more agressive in supporting the 2ndA.
Thank you for pointing out this glaring hypocracy, and also this corrupt government deal.
Why do we allow the Obama administration to bribe a powerful advocacy group to act counter to their interests in exchange for getting a pass from their overbearing and illegal regulations?
///“Those who desire to give up freedom in order to gain security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one.”///

Seems they forgot this bit of wisdom.
One must defend the Constitution and all the amendments. It's not a salad bar where one can pick and choose. I do admit that I have concerns with the 10th and 14th amendments, but to rectify those concerns we need a Constitutional congress to clarify the wording once and for all.
Examples: 10th. I do not believe national health can be regulated through the commerce clause. 14th. We need to review the real intent of the 14th. It did not grant automatic citizenship due to accident of birth in The US.
I wrote emails to the NRA, threatening to stop paying towards my life membership. I stated that without the First Amendment, there will be no way to stop the attack on the Second Amendement. Chris Cox's email back to me indicated that the NRA was not making a deal wrt to the Disclosure Act, but that those supporting the act did it on their own. That email stated that the NRA would fight the Disclosure Act, which I don't think happened. I'm contemplating stopping further payments to the NRA at this time.
I fired them when I thought I was doing a "good" for them AND me by having my payments for their Internet service auto-deducted. When I changed services and butted heads with them for about six months to get them to quit taking payment, I quit them altogether. Screwed themselves.
I probably would have kept up the membership had they not "forced" me to be one of their Internet subscribers beyond the time that I wanted to. 'Won't do THAT again.
Ex-life member here. after their cave on the DISCLOSE act I cut my card up and mailed it back to them. They would not let me quit via email.
Jack
I really have to wonder just how stupid the NRA is being here. If in allegedly making this deal to curtail one right they become the next target to eliminate that right completely. Absolutely amazing. Goodby NRA
Drop your NRA membership and join the GOA for truly conservative 2nd amendment support and representation!
I am not sure if any deal was struck with the Gov. of Ohio recently because they also supported Ted Strickland in his primary campaign in 2006, but made no endorsement in the actual race against Ken Blackwell in the general election.
I have to agree with a poster here recently, I am cutting up my membership card and mailing it back. If this is the game they wish to play they can do it without my money.
This lame explanation doesn't wash. So the NRA is willing to sell my right to free speech to protect their own. If I hadn't already quit the NRA after the McCain endorsement, I'd being it now. Sorry, if the NRA will prostitute themselves on one issue they can't be trusted on another. Gun Owners of America gets my membership.
What is congress were to agree to full gun rights for NRA members only, would they buy into that?
I am with you!!! The NRA was supposed to be the bastion of free people in this country. If they want to join the ranks of progressives, then phuck them. Infact, they are getting my email as we speak.
BRIBERY AND BLACKMAIL is highly prevalent in today's political conjuring atmosphere!!! They are the most used tools for "Rule" changes!!!!

First they came for the Jews, but I was not a Jew, so I said nothing…….
What's the point of keeping our guns if we have no freedoms left to protect?

Making a deal with the government is like doing a deal with the devil. They will always betray you eventually.
"What's the point of keeping our guns if we have no freedoms left to protect? "
The guns are what you need in order to get them back again.
The whole purpose of the NRA is protection of the 2nd Amendment. If the congress passed the "Disclose Act" without the exemption worked out for the NRA, as was the case when the NRA used resources to stop the McCain-Feingold Law, and it ultimately passed, what would the NRA have to do to again speak out about the 2nd amendment issues during election cycles, now made unlawful unlawful? They would have to spend untold sums of their dollars to defend, what is equally important but not the specific mandated reason for their existance the second amendment, the first amendment. All the while this fight was dragging out they would be unable, they would have been neutered, as a second amendment advocate. There are other good reasons to fault the NRA, this is not one of them IMHO.
Though it is not ideal, I don't fault the NRA for their position simply because the backlash generated against this bill. This legislative overreach by the far left has been more damaged by the NRA's silence than it's opposition. Hopefully this November will deprive Obama's regime of their ability to write heinous laws such as DISCLOSE.
Tripe, Sir! Tripe!
Good luck using the 2nd amendment as a FORCE to replace a corrupt Government entity, ESPECIALLY when the 1st amendment is GONE. No way to "gather the armies" if you can't talk about it! And the Sedition charges on ANY Militia will be fast and furious!
The NRA-ILA told me that they supported Sen Reid because he had a good grade with them. The same with Scozzafava. (NY-23). What the Buffoons at the NRA don't get is that people like Reid, that pretend to be 2nd amendment supporters, would do Obama's bidding in a heartbeat. If the Socialist wanted to kill the Constitution, Reid would be the 1st to say he would help, NRA be damned. But, leave it to the Progressives in the NRA, who have taken over running the Org, to deny this.
So, how can you support what is no longer there?
The NRA-ILA have also sent out emails to assuage American fears on the UN Small Arms treaty! WHY? I did my research and we need to be DAMNED worried about it! The NRA says no! Again, WHY?
Something stinky in NRA-ILA land. My membership came due 30 June, I quit and have said, "No MORE"!
Excuse me?
WHY do you think the Dems even OFFERED such a deal?
BECAUSE THE NRA OPPOSING THIS POS BILL WOULD HAVE KILLED IT!
The Socialist in Congress even admits that!
Don't you get that?
Well the Progressives got it, and that's why they made the deal. You actually think the deal would have been made if the Dems were NOT scared of the NRA?
Get a clue! Jayzus, where do these buffoons come from?
So WHAT if the NRA had to spend money on a Law Suit. Isn't THAT what they are supposed to do?
Even a member of the Black Caucus (Rep Jones) got on the house floor during the debaye and ADMITTED the bill was unconstitutional, but they needed it before Nov!
Doesn't that shake a brain cell loose? They DON'T care if it gets ruled uncon by SCOTUS, the Nov elections would have come and gone before that happened!
And YOU take up for the idiocy of the NRA on this?
WOW!
The only buffoon is the one whose reply I am reading! Just because a congressman says it is unconstitutional it is right? Not! The NRA is supposed to spend money on lawsuits right…. yes but on what it's sole purpose for existance is, the 2nd ammendment! And when does a bill by the House before November become law without debatte in the Senate and then passage in conference? Yeah I know who the buffoon is and I just replied to him!
P.S. If you are and were so sure of the unconstitutionality of the bill because you heard it from Rep Jones of the Black Caucus, then we had nothing to fear in the first place! But following facts and logic does not seem to be a strong suit for you!
" ..fired by president obama…" the commie in chief does not have the right to polish the Generals boots. When the General was within arms reach of this threat to America, his survival was simply a result of the Generals Honor, and respect of the law – obama would do well to remember that.
you may have just broken the law:
http://ij.org/images/pdf_folder/washington/mowing...
but i support you.
I definitely will when I have the money, I REALLY want the Nobel Peace Prize that I deserve!
Nicely done: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_they_came...
The NRA should be like Niemoller: Never compromise!
Hahahaha ….wow, I guess I shouldn't laugh but this is just tooooooo much………..
Meanwhile, what are the PAID (but , heheheh, LEGAL[?]) DC lobbyists up too, hmm ?
The founding fathers must be spinning……………
Thanx for the link, BTW, think I'll print it out…….
I'm an NRA member and you better believe I find fault with the leadership. Feeding the Disclose Act alligator in hopes they'll eat you last is stupidity on stilts.
AND even thinking of endorsing Harry Reid is far beyond stupidity on stilts.
