Scare Tactics: Obama Says USA Will ‘Go Bankrupt’ if Senate Bill Not Passed
by Dana LoeschYou mean if we don’t add a trillion dollars to the deficit then the country will … go … bankrupt?

President Obama told ABC News’ Charles Gibson in an interview that if Congress does not pass health care legislation that will bring down costs, the federal government “will go bankrupt.”
The president laid out a dire scenario of what will happen if his health care reform effort fails.
“If we don’t pass it, here’s the guarantee….your premiums will go up, your employers are going to load up more costs on you,” he said. “Potentially they’re going to drop your coverage, because they just can’t afford an increase of 25 percent, 30 percent in terms of the costs of providing health care to employees each and every year. “
The president said that the costs of Medicare and Medicaid are on an “unsustainable” trajectory and if there is no action taken to bring them down, “the federal government will go bankrupt.”
So Medicare and Medicaid are about to go bust because the costs are making them unaffordable, yet Obama and Harry Reid wanted to lower the inclusion age for Medicare down to age 55 from age 65 and also reduce costs while claiming to not reduce the quality of care. What kind of math is this? Because it is AWESOME.
Actually, what isn’t awesome is that excise taxes, coupled with rationing limiting the availability of certain types and duration of care, is what (they hope! Fingers crossed!) will control costs.
If Obama and company are worried about cost all of a sudden, this must be why they immediately addressed tort reform in the bill, because, as the CBO said, doing so would save them $54 billion annually – but oh, NOPE, no tort reform. Surely, since the President and his fellow Democrats are so concerned about costs, they wouldn’t do anything reckless, like, say, shove through another trillion-dollar spending bill that includes a nice pay raise for federal workers.
Wrong again, they did that.
The Democratic party, respective to health care, is like a person who was sent into the store to purchase a gallon of milk and some butter for the evening’s meal and instead walked out with a “Gladiator” DVD, a can of Easy Cheese, and some Homer Simpson house slippers because HOW FUNNY ARE THEY?! Dems had a chance to really tackle that which is truly burdening our system and they dropped the ball. They went after insurance companies – businesses who are businesses because the last I checked, we lived in a capitalistic society – but protected the trial lawyers, the very people who drive up costs with oftentimes egregious lawsuits and make it more difficult for those who were truly affected by malpractice to receive justice. Sure, insurance companies aren’t without their their problems, but the lack of consistency costs the Democrats their validity.
Some people completely misunderstand the root of the problem within the context of preexisting conditions. An oldie but a goodie from Powerline:
You can’t buy insurance against something that has already happened. You can try to make someone else pay your bills, maybe, but you can’t buy insurance. The fact that that plaintiff’s building had burned down was a preexisting condition.
It’s no wonder that health insurance policies have historically excluded coverage for preexisting conditions. You can insure against the risk that you might get cancer, but if you already have cancer, it’s not a risk, it’s a certainty.
[...]
health insurance is conventionally linked to employment–the curse of our present system–creates huge distortions. If an employee changes jobs, the consequence may be a change in insurance companies. A condition that was covered under the old plan is preexisting from the standpoint of his new carrier. Unlike my plaintiff who regretted his decision not to buy insurance on his building, the employee who changes jobs is entirely blameless and didn’t set out to assume a risk.
The GOP tried to remedy this and were blocked by Democrats. From the Wall Street Journal, May, 2009:
Called the Patients’ Choice Act, it would eliminate the tax break that employers receive for providing health-insurance benefits to their workers. Instead, it would give an annual tax credit of $2,300 to each individual and $5,700 to each family that they could use to offset the cost of their health insurance. Low-income families would get extra money to buy into private insurance plans.
Rep. Paul Ryan (R., Wis.) said the system of employer-based coverage is becoming “a 21st century relic” as companies become less generous with benefits.
Democrats instead chose to derail their entire scheme by hanging it up on things such as elective procedures like abortion, penalties for people who don’t “chose the right” of health care (note the irony of their “pro-choice” sentiment), cutting home health care and capping treatment to make their math (sort of) work.
Not passing Obamacare won’t bankrupt America; passing it will.
Perhaps Obama should direct his scare tactics at the very people who screwed up the chance to improve the health care system: his own party.

Welcome………
Thank you for pointing out the er, inconsistancies, something that the "esteemed" Charlie Gibson couldn't or wouldn't do. Tort reform would and has worked (e.g. Texas) but 40+ million dollars to Obama's campaign makes tort lawyers off limits. Funny how a liberal can sound fiscally conservative when desparation sets in.

Good thing the Holidays are here. Potus and the rest of his buddies on the hill need a "Time Out". Of course they will pick up where they left off when they get back! I have a headache.
Being a CPA – I feel I need to go to politician school so I can understand the logic. That must be some sort of advanced degree I need to really comprehend the great OBAMBY.
First fix Medicare, He said he know how and it would save billions.
Then start useing the saved dollars to cover the the unempolyed.
Dont let the Wild Hog Congress near the money.
I'm sitting here laughing. If the death bill won''t pass, we will go bankrupt?? What about the porkulus and the money sent to the EU Banks? The trillion dollar debt that the "idiot" is spending like a drunken Hollywood fool?
IF EVERY LEGAL CITIZEN of this country would've gotten a share of the stimulus package, we would've been in fine shape. BUT no, Piglosi and her tribe of henchmen had to get their share first and them the other commies.
Who the hell does Obummer think he is fooling??? With his Kobe beef and his parties? Helllloooo, he's been writing checks left and right for his own and his cockroaches' benefit and NOW he need our money in 2010 taxes and the deathbill won;t be viable till 2015 (or something like that)?
Yes, medicare needed fixing but not like this!!!!!
This is SOOOOOOO wrong and we will sit by and let it happen, just like the election. I am disgusted because this is all a hoax just like Algore's climategate. This is all about control of our money and this country is getting sucked into a hell hole.
At the rate 0's going, it really doesn't matter if he passes it or not, he'll still bankrupt the US. Passing it would just bankrupt it maybe a wee bit faster. They just spent $155B on a "jobs" program. That'll save or create maybe what 2 jobs? 0 also just signed a 1.1T spending bill. The US's lenders are starting to flee, create their own currency, or ask for more and more interest on these loans. Not to mention, some of Bush's tax cuts expire in about a month, which actually means less money to go around in the private sector, so yet another blow to what will most likely be a poor Christmas sales season. It just keeps piling on, but 0 keeps painting a rosey picture.
The BS is getting so deep, we would have to wear boots even if it wasn't winter.

What passes for logic to a politician is confusing to the public, and vice versa. We are who we elect (royal "we").
When you are a progressive you can say just about anything and believe it. When you are the Messiah you demand everyone believes it. When they don't believe in you, you just throw them in jail, because you placed that law in the bill.
I am shocked, i would never in my lifetime believe we could ever have a more lying President than William Jefferson "I did not have sex with that woman" Clinton. Come on Please, Barak Husein " this bill will lower heath care premiums and be deficit neutral Obama. mmm mmm mm
Yes. Opposite day! It allows me to say, Obama is absolutely right about this — and everything else!!! He is so selfless about everything he does. It's like he has no ego at all.
Ouch! Now my head hurts. Let's not do opposite day any more.
Obama is a liar.
We ARE bankrupt, not "will go bankrupt".
Excuse me, this is the same irresponsible twit that signed into law today a $1.1 trillion bill that "increases the budgets in many areas of the government by about 10 percent, including health, law enforcement and veterans' programs".
Wasn't it recently announced that it was cheaper to do nothing about our present health care system than the bill before the Senate?
I'm convinced that this socialist Clown Posse willfully intends to cause a deep depression 1930's style from which they can then "rescue" us. The poor are easier to herd.
The good news is that he guaranteed bankruptcy… so far, nothing he has guaranteed has come to fruition. That's why I never believe former (?) crackheads
Yeah….the floor is starting to spin.
Crisis? I think not, but I ask you to make up your own mind. Just compare the rhetoric from 1971/1974 to 2009. “Massive crisis of spiraling costs and over-strained medical resources.” Well, since they didn’t pass a bill back then, I guess Capitalism must have worked. Even back then they were trying to eliminate insurance companies and have the President appoint a “Health Security board.” Back then, congress was urged to “quickly” pass a bill. It was also “vitally needed and long overdue”. It seems as though today’s Democrats are guilty of plagiarism of at least the same old “union supported” argument. I think I hear in the second part of the clip that the American people really wanted this and that it is a right to have universal, government controlled healthcare. Back then, the democrats were unwilling to pass a bill without universal, government controlled healthcare. Sound familiar? It is time to stop yelling “fire” in the hospitals and start getting back to what the Constitution says. Please share.

Barrack does JACK FOR BLACK. Black Caucus boycotted his TARP reform unitl Barney gave them 6 billion. They say we only oppose Obama because he is black(so am I), but then the Black Caucus opposes him for not doing enough for blacks. This dicredits their entire Tea Parties are racist campaign.
OK this is the TRUTH there is nothing that says the USA shall honor medicare / medicaid. People may get terminally ill or go w/o treatment but the USA will not go bankrupt like our President Moron says it will. The USA may go bankrupt from Obama's lack of leadership skills but not from this.
If this thing passes, better brush up on your Chinese. Nǐ Hǎo everyone
Hey that was my first thought too! Let's see if we fall for it again.
So if we're facing bankruptcy, then the answer is spend more money on a medical reform bill that's so long that no-one really knows what it does and that relies upon bankrupt government programs to erm "work"? Dang, Obama. I think my cat is smarter than that.
and Mr. Nelson vote for it or you lose a military base !!!
奥巴马是一个落花生
Do we have any US military people out there that can insure the POS in office and his cronies uphold the Constitution to which they took an oath to uphold?? Just sayin ……. seeing as we have traitors in the WH!!
Flyover – I believe that today's young people would describe my reaction to your post as FOTFLMAO! It took me several minutes to recover!
As a "mere" high school grad, working as a 401(k) plan administrator for almost 20 years, my basic math and logical reasoning skills are used and honed on a daily basis. Yet, I must admit, this new math – the 2 + 2 = 5, is lost on me as well. Maybe one needs to have a Harvard education to understand how one can, when already broke, spend more money to avoid bankruptcy. Almost sounds like the "logic" an addicted gambler uses to convince himself to bet his last dollar, against all odds, to win a pot of gold.
This on the same day that they passed a $1.1 trillion spending bill…
These leftwing clowns assume everyone is as stupid as your average democrat. And why wouldn't they, even they realize you have to be a braindead imbecile to vote for them.
America, throw these incompetent sellout pieces of shyt in 2010. Purge DC of these anti-American leftwing parasites.
Stick with me on this. Check out this video, which manages to juxtapose Obama's health care "precipice" comments with a Wile E. Coyote cartoon (of course involving a cliff): http://optoons.blogspot.com/2009/12/obama-and-wil...
Tony, sounds good in theory. But don't forget that our esteemed federal employees all belong to a union. And no union would ever allow that to happen. Just look at the UAW. They were soooo desperate that they sold their members to the federal government – can you say GM and Chrysler. The federal government will not go bankrupt as long as they can maintain some amount of control over the general population and continue to print money.
Nice sentiment though.
Whoa Nelly; George Orwell got his date wrong; he should have used 2009 as the title of his masterpiece.
I agreed that this country will go bankrupt if they don't pass this monstrosity. Looking at the way democrats are spending, they are looking to get the fresh new cash to launder. Remember, these new big pile of cash won't be in effect in 4 years. They will misuse all these money while they are in-charge.
I thought we were bankrupt, on second thought I guess we need a different term "Generational Deficitized" ?
You have to laugh when a government shopaholic starts talking about massive spending to curb the debt, anyone who beleives this guy needs serious mental help.
We just elected the man who will intentionally destroy America. All of his friends and associates have said so, explicitly, for the last 30 years, yet our nation's people put this man at her helm.
Our nation, even its conservatives, are still addicted to their TVs, even as they complain about it. Can't put away the crack pipe, so they rationalize their decision away, just like addicts do.
America's "providers" jab scissors into the skulls of babies daily.
Schoolchildren are taught about fisting, rimming, spitting, swallowing, and anonymous sex in public parks, and that this is all good. At the same time, they are taught that belief in a personal Savior is bad, that Mao was a great philosopher, that Islam is peaceful, and that right and wrong is measured by how eco-conscious and morally relativistic one can be.
People stay home instead of demanding heads, and keep their kids in the schools.
I guess what I'm saying is: we're bankrupt already.
The financial aspect of this "bankruptcy" is but a natural result.
It's a symptom.
What a bunch of hand waving.
Excuse me if I dont take this crack addled Shopaholic called Obama seriously when he is screaming that they need more money becasue another big sale is coming our way and IT ENDS SOON YOU MUST ACT NOW.
Why even comment, they just string words together to make sounds, apparently that is enough for thier lunatic base.
2010 at worst we slow him down, 2012 we dump him on the ash heap of history and tear the liberal machine to pieces.
Slightly OT, but help me out here. I think I heard Sanders on the Senate floor today quote a 2007 YAHOO poll on the majority of Americans who want this healthcare reform. Did I hear that right?????? Anybody???
the man is.. is.. is.. uh.. i've ran out of words. this is just insane! not only is this sort of talk unconscionable, it is a pathetic attempt to foment fear and create even more division among the citizens.
this is the equivalent of going 'all in' in a poker game. this is the pivot point of his presidency. this is the mantle on which he will lay his peace prize, the motivation to jut his jaw and look down his nose at us – the 'ordinary people'
Fear monger-in-chief is back to his boy who cried wolf tatctic's.
And speaking of scare tactic's…………………… Did you see Pelosis' mug on Drudge…..BLuuuaaaaaaagghhhh!!!!!!
Maybe Charles Gibson should have asked Obama if as a show of good faith he would be willing to cut michelles personal staff from 26 down to 1.
I mean we can fly in a chicago pizza chef, michell gets her 26 peasants, and Obama promised Carbonhogging delegates 15 Billion and I am supposed to actually take this idiot Obama seriously?
Does it really matter what he says to the liberal base anymnore? He could just stand up their and make noises and the MSM, Daily Kos and MM woudl applaud, the rest of us arent listening anymore so why bother?
I have no respect for Obama's opinion on economic issues, he does not know the subject. He is only saying what someone told him to say, probably valerie jarret
Yep, and Prezizzle B.O. will see to it personally that his threat comes true: $1.1 trillion spending bill signed passed today.
he should have prefaced his comment with this "let me be clear, i dont really understand economics" His lack of economic understanding is his achilles heel, and unfortunately now its the whole countrys problem
We'll go bankrupt faster with this bill!
i guess we'll be more bankrupt
Debt is Wealth
Good Lord! Just how stupid does he think we are? The ego of this man is unsurpassed in recent history. That he should go on national TV and tell the American people that the nation will go bankrupt if a healthcare bill is not passed is unbelievable. I fear that if he insults my meager intelligence one more time I will go completely insane.
I could go on forever. This man must be stopped at all costs. His narcissistic ego is such classic case that, if he were a serial murderer, would be studied by the BAU. To say that he is dangerous to the republic is an understatement at best. Most "good" politicians know when to shut up. Our president not only doesn't shut up, he adds insult to injury and continues to talk, thereby degrading the populace which in part elected him.
He talks down to the American people as if we were in Kindergarten and he was the teacher. He has disdain for the populace and considers himself at best above them and at worst, omniscient. He has no moral compass except for his own ambition and ego. Yet he truly believes in everything he says and does – therein lies the danger.
I know lets all throw out our TV's then we will be saved!
I have no idea where you are coming from, you seem to have about 100 conspiracies roaming around in your head, pick one and stick with it, becasue I am getting more and more confused every time I read one of your rants.
Don't get me wrong, a good rant is nice jumping off point, but you seem to attack everyone and say nothing, perhaps we should just all become anti-tech anarchists?
If your point is we are doomed then off yourself, if your hinting around at something then come right out and say it, if none of the above apply then live long and prosper in your new straight jacket.
Without doing any heavy research, does he mean the US will go bankrupt, or the Fed. government will go bankrupt? Are they the same thing? It might not be such a bad thing if the government went bankrupt – it would stop them!
Do you have a point?
I mean other than everyone and everything sucks and we are all doomed and there is not point so run to the hills and wimper like a whipped dog?
[...] get one thing perfectly clear, as stated by Dana Loesch at Big Government.com, “Not passing Obamacare won’t bankrupt America; passing it [...]
Yes: this nation needs to get back to God, who made this nation great in the first place, because of our former allegience to Him, and without whom this nation will suffer greatly, and, at the moment, does, as you can see all around you.
That's pretty much my point. The ills this nation faces are a direct result of a national abandonment of Biblical principles which we used to hold dear. We used to worship Him, now we worship us. And TVs, and nature, and pleasure, and posessions, and money, and a hundred lesser gods. To our peril.
There is a solution, and it's a solution America once knew well.
A valid point, I believe, and one which I should have made more clear in the comment.
SEIU represents the federal employees, how convenient!
Real nice, not to mention utterly overflowing with class. Can't recall ever suggesting that someone commit suicide. Do you have a double at Huffpo?
Quoting my former reply: "…this nation needs to get back to God, who made this nation great in the first place, because of our former allegience to Him, and without whom this nation will suffer greatly, and, at the moment, does, as you can see all around you."
Elections and Republicans ain't gonna save us. Getting back to God, as a nation, is.
But you're a "thinking man", so that might be right out of the question from the get-go. /
Will go bankrupt!! What !
Why is everything a CRISIS with the Dems? If we don't correct Global Warming and pass Health Care and Buy Clunkers and teach Kids How to Fist and on and on and on…If we don't do these thing NOW we are doomed! I am "burned out" on the SCARE TACTICS!

Hail Obama – King of "Irony".
Nelson announced tonight he is voting for the healthcare bill……..be ready folks……..enjoy this holiday season because things will go down hill afterwards
great posts!
We're already bankrupt. Maybe this country will learn from its mistakes and vote against Fascism from now on.
Ah, who am I kidding?
I held out hope that Nelson would stand firm. I always considered him as a Dimocrap that has a little bit of common sense. Somebody obviously got to him and gave him an offer her couldn't refuse, just like the folks in the house got.
True. And Time's idiot Person of Year hasn't even raised interest rates yet. I expect to spend next Christmas at a soup kitchen or one of Hussein's Gulags, because it's going to be baaaaad.
This Presidents idiocy knows no limits and we have 3 more years of this to put up with…
What's the problem?
Obama says USA will go bankrupt if Senate bill passed.
This POS is constantly talking smack about the right scaring the public when that is his MO for everything. Obama lies even when he doesn't have to. He is executing a perfect smash and dash on our economy so that when he is out in one term it won't matter casue he already took everything that wasn't nailed down and trashed anything remaining that had value.
It will take a new administration a full four years to fire all Obama's appointees and socialist bureaucraps and try to unwind the perversion he makes of our justice department. As a last act he will likely pardon all the crack heads and child molestors and ACORN holes in prison.
And that…was the most disgusting are twisting I have ever seen!! We have to find a way to stop our government before it's too late!!
Unfortunately you are so right! This is a sad day when our government has this much control over us!!
Yes the Peking Duck is wonderful thank you for asking.
If we don't stop man made global warming we will be worse off than rice in a pressure cooker.
If we don't pass the TARP 2 bill the banks will go under.
If we don't bail out the car companies there will be not union employees in the US.
I am tired of the government calling wolf every 5 minutes!
Those 26 people are necessary to carry the oversized chair the MamaObama needs to be able to sit down. It's not a huge butt, it's a physical handicap!
And the left keeps pointing at the right and screaming <FEAR MONGERS!> They have used this stranglehold on the American people since he got into office!! Time for impeachment!!!!
Funny thing about Medicare (not Medicaid, which is government-subsidized medical for indigents): Medicare recipients must be age 65 + 2 months to enroll; they will have paid 2.9% of their lifetime earnings (1.45% plus 1.45% matching funds from employers) which, with a hypothetical annual average of just $25,000 over a 45-year working lifetime (aged 20 to 65), would be just under $32,000 (obviously, higher averages are more typical); and, upon enrollment, they begin paying (currently) about $100 monthly premium amounts (usually deducted from their Social Security checks). Although the average lifespan is now up there, a lot of people die in their early 60's — after paying in nearly their full lifetime SS & Medicare tab, but before collecting dime one. The point is, IF that money – both SS & Medicare — were put into the infamous "lock box," or, better yet, collecting compound interest, there might even be enough liquidity in the "fund" to cover the legitimate obligations AND pay practitioners fair billing amounts. There isn't, and the same people who mishandle that mess now want to take over the entire healthcare system. Oh, yeah, that'll work.
Bankruptcy doesn't sound so bad. I would like to see all those goverment workers see reality for once. When private sector business fall short on cash they layoff workers. When goverment falls short of money they just add it to the deficit to keep these people employed. For far to long goverment workers have been protected and the health of the US economy suffors.
Doesn't sound fair does it?
How come this guy is able to get away with the same lie time after time?
WOW! The light just went off in my head! Barry was actually telling the TRUTH!!! I just had to stop and think progressive. His quote was "If we do not pass this health care bill the country will go bankrupt!". That is a true statement. What was left unsaid is that "WE WILL STILL BE BANKRUPT EVEN IF IT DOES PASS!"
Where is the charisma….and the thoughtfulness now? What happened? We are looking for leadership, insight, bi-partisan work and concern for the people. Instead we get a President who turns his back on the heritage of the country; scares the bejesus out of the population and aligns himself with losers like Pelosi and that scum Reed. Bankrupt..I would say yes…morally, ethically and the list grows every longer!! Wakeup and be a real President and a leader!! God- I wish for a Kennedy, a Reagan, an LBJ…instread I get another Carter!!
Regarding "…2010 at worst we slow him down, 2012 we dump him on the ash heap of history and tear the liberal machine to pieces. "
You mean, like the last time Republicans had control of Congress? Yeah, we sure showed those libs, didn't we? For one small moment in 1994, perhaps, but then? We joined them.
Unicorns and rainbows on the right and the left.
If by 2010, ACORN is not absolutely dissolved, AND there isn't a negligable number of folks working the polling stations that are not Dem Party Loyalists, AND the Soros-spawn Secretaries of State and Party Loyalist magistrates and attorneys who also control the way in which votes are counted are not somehow rendered toothless, then we may somehow squeak out a win. Oh, and if we don't have Entryist infiltrator candidates and spoiler candidates pretending to run as Republicans. Oh, and if somehow the Democrats don't again remove all restrictions on donations from their websites, and again receive money and phonebank support from Gaza and China and Timbuckfreakintu, yeah, we might have a shot at this!
And then we'll show them good. Our millionaires-club Republican majority will allofasudden become models of fiscal responsibility and paragons of judicial and legislative wisdom.
Yeah, man! I see it too!./….
I was looking at this video on Time's site: http://www.time.com/time/video/player/0,32068,291...
…and it occurred to me that the Supreme Court doesn't monitor our legislation for Constitutionality like they used to. Perhaps it's time to get back to basics. We need some sort of judicial oversight over Congress, and not just on things like ethical issues.
The truth comes out . . . the politicians have spent all of medicare, all of medicade, all of social security. So instead of curbing their spending and putting money back into those programs, they know the only way for a short term fix is to take over all of health care. That way they can play the shell game of where to put money in the system. If they'd have been thrifty for the past 50 years with our money and squirreled it away as originally promised, there would be no need for them to take over health care. There would have been plenty of money to support those programs. Money is like a drug addiction for politicians.
When he first got into office, tons of his supporters would chide talk radio for criticizing him, saying "Give him a chance, you don't really know what he will do. Give him a chance he has such good ideas. etc." They don't call in anymore!
Not that they don't still support him, just that the talk show hosts have been proven right so many times. The argument that we need to 'give him a chance' has fallen flat.
This person doesn't need to be 'given' anything—he Takes what he wants! Citizens be dammmmed!
He will make Change in Washington…….sure enough….move over George Orwell newspeak has been reinvented!
“Penalties for people who don’t “choose the right” of health care (note the irony of their ‘pro-choice’ sentiment)”. Yes, I get the irony. There are many ironies in our Politically Correct society and in the DemoNatzi Party. I would be laughing if I weren’t crying. It would be funny if it weren’t so serious.
There is a stunning degree of Doublethink within the DemoNatzi Party. Even Orwell would be dazzled by the parallels between his novel “1984” and our current reality. Every “irony” displayed can be traced to systematic cognitive ignorance, or cognitive dissonance, of the facts.
The DemoNatzi’s need to be removed from power and NEVER allowed to re-attain that power. They must be rooted our and exposed and not allowed to reorganize under a new name. The States need to take back their rights and it needs to be illegal for the federal government to dole out money to individuals, organizations, or to the States. That’s the root of the corruption. The need for greed; money is lifeblood of political corruption.
peaches,
Do you suppose it might be because the politicians that have an R associated with their name and who vote against all these socialist schemes, don't have the cajones to stand up for us, Boener, Wilson and Palin have, but other that that, we hear silence. What a shame.
He's right. We'll go bankrupt if we don't pass this bill. (I think we already are??) We'll also go bankrupt if we do, but it will be UNPRECEDENTED bankruptcy and he wants to do everything in an unprecedented way, he being the unpresident.
I'm confused. I can't figure out if these people are stupid or liars.
BOTH!
don't count on that one…rumor has it they'll try to pass it on Christmas Day….

if he had any morals at all here would be his statement:
Since I and the Congress work for the American people and that the majority of Americans have made it perfectly clear that they DO NOT want this bill, I am withdrawing all support. I encourage congress to do the same. If they want a bill signed it must address tort reform, portability, and buying insurance across State lines. Anything else will be vetoed.
Of course this socialist/marxist will push forward with his agenda against the will of We The People….
time for impeachment and a complete investigation of the man and his real background…
Oh, its not Opposite Day…
Its "Lost Your Damn Mind, 2009!"
But public displeasure with Democrats wasn't translating directly into warmth for Republicans. Twenty-eight percent of voters expressed positive feelings about the GOP — a number that has remained constant through the Democrats' decline over the summer and fall. Only 5% said their feelings toward the Republicans were "very positive."
And in one arena, Afghanistan, Mr. Obama appeared to have some success in winning support for his planned troop surge. Liberals remain largely opposed to the strategy, but in fewer numbers compared with before Mr. Obama made his case in a speech at West Point. Overall, by 44% to 41%, a plurality believe his strategy is the right approach.
Still, the survey paints a decidedly gloomy picture for Democrats, who appear to be bearing the brunt of public unease as unemployment has risen from 7.6% to 10% since Mr. Obama took office. Just 35% of voters said they felt positively about the Democratic Party, a 14-point slide since February. Ten percent felt "very positive."
An exclusive NBC/WSJ poll has Barack Obama's popularity below 50 percent for the first time in his presidency. But, as WSJ's Peter Wallsten points out, the news for the GOP isn't all good.
"Overall, it's just a depressing time right now," said Mike Ashmore, 23 years old, of Lansdale, Pa., an independent who supported Mr. Obama last year but now complained about the president's lack of action on jobs.
Julie Edwards, 52, an aircraft technician for Boeing Co. in Mesa, Ariz., said she voted Democratic in the past two elections but wasn't sure how she would vote next time. She wondered why Wall Street firms were bailed out when average Americans needed help. "We can bail out Wall Street, but everybody else has to suffer in spades for it," she said.
Democratic leaders, while bracing for losses next year, have argued that unlike the 1994 elections, in which Republicans gained 54 seats and took the House majority, Democrats would survive 2010 in part because they are taking steps to avoid that possibility. Republicans must gain 41 seats to take control.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Wednesday that Democrats "fully intend to be in the majority" after November 2010, and she was now shifting to "campaign mode" to help candidates. Party officials are leaning on a number of longtime colleagues to fight for their seats rather than retire.
The Journal/NBC survey found Ms. Pelosi's presence on the campaign trail could do more harm than good. Fifty-two percent said they would be less likely to vote for a candidate who agreed with the speaker almost all the time, compared with 42% who felt that way about candidates siding with Republican leaders.
For Mr. Obama, who has relied on his personal popularity to retain the clout he needs to enact his legislative agenda, the survey pointed to troubling signs.
A majority for the first time disapproved of his handling of the economy. And the public's personal affection for the president, a consistent strong suit, has begun to fray. Fifty percent now feel positive about him, six points lower than in October and an 18-point drop since his early weeks in office.
Democrats' troubles can be attributed in part to changing feelings among some core supporters. A third of voters 34 and under, a group that turned out heavily for Democrats last year, feel negative toward the Democratic Party. And just 38% of Hispanics feel positive, down sharply from 60% in February.
The survey, which was conducted Dec. 11-14, has a margin of error of 3.1 percentage points.

WASHINGTON — Less than a year after Inauguration Day, support for the Democratic Party continues to slump, amid a difficult economy and a wave of public discontent, according to a new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll.
The findings underscored how dramatically the political landscape has changed during the Obama administration's first year. In January, despite the recession and financial crisis, voters expressed optimism about the future, the new president enjoyed soaring approval ratings, and congressional leaders promised to swiftly pass his ambitious agenda.
In December's survey, for the first time, less than half of Americans approved of the job President Barack Obama was doing, marking a steeper first-year fall for this president than his recent predecessors.
Also for the first time this year, the electorate was split when asked which party it wanted to see in charge after the 2010 elections. For months, a clear plurality favored Democratic control.
The survey suggests that public discontent with Mr. Obama and his party is being driven by an unusually grim view of the country's status and future prospects.
A majority of Americans believe the U.S. is in decline. And a plurality now say the U.S. will be surpassed by China in 20 years as the top power.
Democrats' problems seem in part linked to their ambitious health-care plan, billed as the signature achievement of Mr. Obama's first year. Now, for the first time, more people said they would prefer Congress did nothing on health care than who wanted to see the overhaul enacted.

"For Democrats, the red flags are flying at full mast," said Democratic pollster Peter Hart, who conducted the survey with Republican pollster Bill McInturff. "What we don't know for certain is: Have we reached a bottoming-out point?"
The biggest worry for Democrats is that the findings could set the stage for gains by Republican candidates in next year's elections. Support from independents for the president and his party continues to dwindle. In addition, voters intending to back Republicans expressed far more interest in the 2010 races than those planning to vote for Democrats, illustrating how disappointment on the left over attempts by party leaders to compromise on health care and other issues is damping enthusiasm among core party voters.
But public displeasure with Democrats wasn't translating directly into warmth for Republicans. Twenty-eight percent of voters expressed positive feelings about the GOP — a number that has remained constant through the Democrats' decline over the summer and fall. Speaker Nancy Pelosi predicted Wednesday that job creation and deficit reduction will be the central Democratic themes for the coming year – and that public support for health care reform will rebound once a bill has been sent to President Barack Obama.
On the divisive issue of Afghanistan, the California Democrat ducked the question of how she would vote on increased war funding: “Let’s see what they request,” she said. But she has urged her party, including old allies on the anti-war left, to listen and give some “room” to Obama, recognizing that the president had been “dealt a very bad hand because there was no plan in Afghanistan for years.”
Pelosi made her comments at a year-end roundtable with reporters where she described herself as back in full “campaign mode” and confident House Democrats will retain “a strong majority” after the 2010 elections.
“He didn’t give me 72 hours notice,” she joked of Rep. Brian Baird’s surprise decision to not seek re-election in his swing district in Washington state. But Pelosi said her rule of politics was “don’t assume anything” and she wasn’t panicked by the recent spate of retirements in her ranks.
In the case of health care reform, Pelosi credited House Democrats with having saved Obama’s initiative after the onslaught of attacks during the August recess. And if the Senate can complete its bill this month, she will work to try to send a House-Senate compromise to the White House before the State of the Union.
“They will pass a bill and we will have a bill,” the speaker said, and once that happens, she predicted the focus will shift away from the differences among Democrats and more on what is in the package itself.
“We are in a define-or-be-defined occupation,” she said, and her adversaries have had the advantage of picking out single issues, such as abortion or the public option, to characterize the whole.
Matching the House bill against the still-evolving Senate package, she said she saw differences of affordability for families and the revenue-raisers that would have to be negotiated. But she downplayed differences over the public option for coverage, saying the emphasis had always been on giving consumers an insurance option, not that it be public or government run.
Gosh Barry, you've frightened me. No…wait…nothing else you've uttered lately has been true, so maybe I'll take my chances. I'm not nuanced enough to understand how spending taxpayer money hand over fist and enslaving present and future generations to the Leviathan could be good for us.
We know that, between the two bills, we have the makings of a big difference for the American people,” Pelosi said. “When we have a bill . . . the discussion is no longer about the bishops or about the public options, and it’s about what’s in the bill for people.”
She plans to travel to Michigan for the Detroit auto show in January and is already pressing the Senate to respond quickly next month to a new job-creation package on the floor Wednesday. When a Michigan reporter asked her response to White House proposals about job-creating investments in environmental technologies, she bridled a bit: “We need no introduction to these subjects, and we’re thrilled that the White House is joining them.”
But in contrast with this past year, dominated by the Democrats aspirations for health care or climate change legislation, she said the grim federal debt now loomed over the agenda.
“There is a very, almost fierce determination to reduce the deficit,” she said, and repeatedly returned to her early years in Congress and budget battles under President Bill Clinton that contributed to the Democrats losing control of Congress in 1994.
“We’ve been here before,” she said. “We had to make very difficult decisions, and as you know, we paid a political price for it but we had to do it.”
Pelosi predicted in January ‘we’ll come to terms on a commission” such as those proposed to make recommendations to Congress on difficult deficit-reduction measures. But without mentioning Senate Budget Committee Chairman Kent Conrad (D-N.D.) by name, she seemed cool still toward his legislation, which would usurp the speaker’s power over legislation and dictate an up-or down-House vote — without amendments — on whatever the commission recommends.
“I said pass it in the Senate,” the speaker said. “Send it to me, I’ll have to face it.” But when Senate leaders told her that it was unclear still if the Conrad plan had the 60 votes needed for passage, her answer was: “Then let’s talk about what we can both pass rather than talk about what some people think should happen but doesn’t really have the votes.”
“This is not a completely whole new ball game because we had to do it when President Clinton made the determination that we would go forward,” the speaker said. “We know how to do it — we’ll do it again

The dangerous thing about "hope and change" lies in the scope and range.
Don’t make promises you can’t keep O. Hurray the federal government is bankrupt!
You would think it would dawn on people health care became unaffordable AFTER the federal government stuck it’s nose in it the first place just like your schools suck now AFTER the federal government stuck it’s nose in it.
And unemployment would not go over 8% if we do not pass the $787 Billion in Stimulus. LIAR!
I play nice with people that play nice with me, your attack dog rants will get similar results, and when I do the same I expect the same and don't whine about it.
Do unto others, you may have read that, you might want to try and apply it if your at all serious.
As to your position, I see no merit in just attacking everything and then claiming the only way to pull our country back from the brink is that everyone must embrace your faith (whatever it might be)
If that's true then we are truly doomed and you might as well end your miserable life or at least let the rest of us get on with the fight.
I hope you really dont beleive that thinking is diametrically opposed to having faith in a living God, that is more in line with Lefist thought then a Conservatarian position.
The 13th dimension where membranes collide!
The above snip is not in this thread, it's nice to know your position, but if its not a reply you made to me in this post and that is not what I counter-posted to.
If this was a future reply ( relative to the my counter post to you ) then I must inform you I cannot read posts from the future
Ok so you might want to say which god you believe in, and what % must conform to your faith before we can start the fight, just so we all know.
I am unfamiliar with any passage in any holy text that says TV is the root of all evil, but then I have no idea which god you kneel to so I cant get much beyonf the first paragraph above.

Completely Reckless, Completely Irresponsible
from the Office of Senator Mitch McConnell
Thursday, December 17, 2009
‘And here’s the most outrageous part: at the end of this rush, they want us to vote on a bill that no one outside the Majority Leader’s conference room has even seen. That’s right. The final bill we’ll vote on isn’t even the one we’ve had on the floor. It’s the deal Democrat leaders have been trying to work out in private’
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell made the following remarks on the Senate floor Thursday regarding the importance of getting it right on health care reform:
“Senators on both sides acknowledge that the health care bill we’re considering is among the most significant pieces of legislation any of us will ever consider.
“So it stands to reason that we’d devote significant time and attention to it.
“Indeed, some would argue that we should spend more time and attention on this bill than most — if not every — previous bill we’ve considered.
“The Majority disagrees.
“Why? Because this bill has become a political nightmare for them.
“They know Americans overwhelmingly oppose it, so they want to get it over with.
“Americans are already outraged at the fact that Democrat leaders took their eyes off the ball. Rushing the process on a partisan line makes the situation even worse.
“Americans were told the purpose of reform was to reduce the cost of health care.
“Instead, Democrat leaders produced a $2.5 trillion, 2,074-page monstrosity that vastly expands government, raises taxes, raises premiums, and wrecks Medicare.
“And they want to rush this bill through by Christmas — one of the most significant, far-reaching pieces of legislation in U.S. history. They want to rush it.
“And here’s the most outrageous part: at the end of this rush, they want us to vote on a bill that no one outside the Majority Leader’s conference room has even seen.
“That’s right. The final bill we’ll vote on isn’t even the one we’ve had on the floor. It’s the deal Democrat leaders have been trying to work out in private.
“That’s what they intend to bring to the floor and force a vote on before Christmas.
“So this entire process is essentially a charade.
“But let’s just compare the process so far with previous legislation for some perspective. Here’s a snapshot of what we’ve done and where we stand:
•The Majority Leader intends to bring this debate to a close as early as this weekend — four days from now, on this $2.5 trillion dollar mistake
•No American who hasn’t been invited into the Majority Leader’s conference room knows what will be in that bill
•This bill has been the pending business of the Senate since the last week of November — less than four weeks ago.
•We started the amendment process two weeks ago.
•We’ve had 21 amendments and motions — less than two a day.
“Now let’s look at how the Senate has dealt with previous legislation.
“No Child Left Behind (2001):
•21 session days or 7 weeks.
•Roll Call votes: 44
•Number of Amendments offered: 157
“9/11 Commission/Homeland Security Act (2002):
•19 session days over 7 weeks.
•Roll Call votes: 20
•Number of Amendments offered: 30
“Energy Bill (2002):
•21 session days over 8 weeks
•Number of Roll Call votes: 36
•Number of Amendments offered: 15
“This isn’t an energy bill. This is an attempt by a majority to take over one sixth of the U.S. economy — to vastly expand the reach and the role of government into the health care decisions of every single American — and they want to be done after one substantive amendment. This is absolutely inexcusable.
“I think Senator Snowe put it best on Tuesday:
‘Given the enormity and complexity,’ she said, ‘I don’t see anything magical about the Christmas deadline if this bill is going to become law in 2014.’
“And I think Senator Snowe’s comments on a lack of bipartisanship at the outset of this debate are also right on point.
“Here’s what she said in late November:
‘I am truly disappointed we are commencing our historic debate on one of the most significant and pressing domestic issues of our time with a process that has forestalled our ability to arrive at broader agreement on some of the most crucial elements of health care reform. The bottom line is, the most consequential health care legislation in the history of our country and the reordering of $33 trillion in health care spending over the coming decade shouldn’t be determined by one vote-margin strategies – surely we can and must do better.’
“The only conceivable justification for rushing this bill is the overwhelming opposition of the American people. Democrats know that the longer Americans see this bill the less they like it. Here’s the latest from Pew. It came out just yesterday.
“A majority (58 percent) of those who have heard a lot about the bills oppose them while only 32 percent favor them.”
“There is no justification for this blind rush — except a political one, and that’s not good enough for the American people.
“And there’s no justification for forcing the Senate to vote on a bill none of us has seen.
“Americans already oppose this bill. The process is just as bad.
“It’s completely reckless, completely irresponsible.”
and/or spanish…..the flood of illegals and all their extended family will add another 100 million or so to the welfare rolls if congress rams shamnesty through…
Am Pr is not even a socialist, he is a communist. He looks like Gorbi (ex USSR president who ruined that country). It can happen with USA too. Very sad (((
Im ex soviet union citizen
He's really grasping at straws isn't he? It's as though we've gone back in time when Obama first began pushing for this "overhaul". He was saying the same things then. The sky would fall and world markets would crumble if these twelve million people went without health insurance. Meanwhile they would have us believe that these 12 million people are all sick and awaiting much needed health care that only health insurance could pay for. The whole effort from the very beginning has been to either take over or get get a foot in the door for an eventual government take over of our health care system.
These weasels have been bought and paid for many times over. Now they have to answer to the puppetmasters who have given them their orders. What a sad state of affairs for the country.
I have never been one to wish away my life but personally I cannot wait for election day 2010.
LMAO!!!!!!!! This is no laughing matter, but humor helps — thanks Johnny……….
So they pass the stimulus to save and create jobs. The stimulus was full of things like giving 6 million dollars to hillary's buddy to save 3 jobs. Unemployment goes up, they say they need another stimulus and this time its to create jobs because the last one didn't really work. They vote to raise the national debt and in the same day they spent over a trillion dollars more, already going over the new cap they put into place. Then they want to borrow and spend trillions more on this health care bill, because if we don't spend trillions of dollars we dont have then we'll go broke? Can some one cut up these bozo's credit cards please please please?
