The Grinches Who Will Steal Your Health Care
by Dr. David JandaAfter reviewing the latest version of health care reform emanating from “the greatest deliberative body in the world”, The Senate, I was transported to Whoville, target of The Grinch…..from this point forward renamed America. It would appear that “Your mean ones,” Mr., Ms and Mr. Grinch (Obama, Pelosi and Reid) have heard and learned nothing from the town hall meetings and from all of the e-mails, phone calls, faxes and letters from ALL of us Whos.

The latest version of the Grinches’ health care reform is a carbon copy of the rationing of health care that passed the House in November. The core and the heart is three sizes too small in both versions, and cuts costs by denying and rationing care, the most inhumane and unethical means of cutting costs. However, Washington’s Grinches have added a couple of “presents” to further harm all of us Whos.
The Grinches’ first “present” is to “allow” everyone in Medicare, or who will soon be in Medicare, to pay for a larger percentage of the costs of this beast. How special is that? The Grinches Obama, Pelosi and Reid have decided to cut Medicare by $500 Billion over ten years to pay for their reform package, even though millions more seniors will be on Medicare in ten years. Let’s look at the data that the Grinches refuse to acknowledge.
According to the United States Census Bureau:
- 40 Million Americans currently are ages 55-64
- 50% of those aged 55-64 have at least 4 or more health care visits per year
- 42 Million Americans currently are age 65 or over
- 35% of those over 65 have 3 or more chronic conditions
- 29% of those over 65 are in fair or poor health
- In 10 years 62 Million Americans will be 65 or over
So, in ten years an additional 22 Million Americans will fall under Medicare, at the same time the Grinches will cut $500 Billion out of Medicare. Worse, they expect us Whos to believe that there will be no rationing of care by the already established rationing board from the stimulus bill ( Federal Coordinating Council For Comparative Effectiveness Research) and Medicare Commission from the Senate bill.
The Grinches further claim Medicare is the epitome of success and cost effectiveness and a program we should all look forward to joining. In fact, one of their “potential” presents, still on the drawing board, is to “allow” everyone 55-64 years of age the “opportunity” to join Medicare. This is the same Medicare that:
Was established in 1965
Cost $ 3 Billion in 1966
Cost $325 Billion in 2005
Cost $408 Billion in 2009 (12 % increase every year for 43 years)
From 2000-2007 paid DEAD physicians 478,500 claims totaling $92 Million (U.S. Senate Permanent Committee on Investigation)
From us Whos, thanks for nothing. Maybe the Grinches’ second “present” will be better. Um, no.
The second “present” is the ability to participate in the ‘Government Insurance Exchange” modeled after the federal employee health benefit program. The same program that:
- Currently oversees 4 ½ Million Federal Employees
- Is Administered by The Office of Personnel Management
- The Government Accounting Office ( GAO) found the cost benefit ratio was 51% higher than non-Federal programs.
- The GAO found the cost benefit ratio was 89% higher than large self-insured businesses
- The GAO concluded, “This program is highly vulnerable to fraud and abuse”
- The GAO revealed, “The misappropriation of carrier funds included embezzlement, using plan funds to finance UNION or employee organization activities and improperly charging the plan for expenses not incurred.”
Wow, on behalf of us Whos …..thanks for nothing Mr., Ms. and Mr. Grinch. It becomes evident, “it is déjà vue all over again” when it comes to the Grinches and their health care reform plan for all of us Whos. Their plan is not about creating available, affordable or quality health care. Their plan is about control of every Who’s health-care life. Once the Grinches control every Who’s health, The Grinches have the ability to control every aspect of every Who’s life.
In the real story of the Grinch, the villain had a change of heart. In fact, when his heart grew three sizes, the Grinch learned the real meaning of Christmas…. Whatever the three Grinches believe in, Obama, Pelosi and Reid need to listen to us Who’s, and give back control of our lives. Unfortunately, with our Grinches, their plan remains at least three sizes too small.

Looks like the"gift" of liberty given us by the blood of our forefathers of the American Revolution of 1776 will have to be returned during this Christmas season of 2009 with rhe words "personal liberty" marked out and replaced by "collectivism and tyranny".
The worst of all worlds. We are going to mandate that there are no preexisting conditions and that insurance companies can't charge more based on medical histories.
So, people can choose not to be insured and pay a $750 or so annual tax and then when they come down with a disease that will cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to treat, they simply sign up for an insurance plan without being charged a higher premium for not having been previously insured or having a major disease.
Who pays for this? You and I, and everyone else that is insured, because ALL of our premiums will go up.
Isn't there a legal way to get an injunction against implementation of the flagrantly unConstitutional provisions, such as mandated citizen purchase of insurance policies? Some kind of class action suit? I know the individual senators and representatives are immune from most actions, but what about the two chambers and/or relevant agencies/bureaucracies as institutions? If nothing else, it might be able to stall any movement until after inauguration of the new Congress in 2011.
Better spend some of that stimulus money on new jails, Because they are going to need them.
People need to face facts and call a Spade a Spade. They are not Grinches (although the analogy is befitting), they are despicable, sorry sunsabitches. Obama, Reid, and Pelosi have pulled bloodless coup, to this point….
find a law-yuh and file a case.
/'course, the bloody thing does need to be, y'know, PASSED [and signed] before I'd start dialing numbers, but that's just me …

there will be countless lawsuits over this legislation. there may be many elements that will fail to be enacted, but sadly, we (if this isn't stopped by some miracle) will be left with over ONE HUNDRED NEW FEDERAL AGENCIES that can most likely not be aborted, once created. (pun intended)
I don't know how most of you feel but I know that I am not opposed to some form of health care reform. However, what I am against is the government take over of the health care system. I am opposed to all of the seemingly endless amount of liberal baggage that is attached to this bill. Baggage that reeks of socialism and political dominance. Baggage that will systematically steal our freedom and raise our taxes over the next 10 years. True some will benefit from this bill it will not be the "majority" of average Americans who go to work every day eeking out a living.
very good point buckaroo9…. right now, they just SAY they have the 60 needed for cloture. i believe they do, and that this will go to conference. THAT is when things will get nasty – all behind closed door, of course. if a 2,000 page bill goes in, who knows what will come out. i don't think it really matters what goes to the great and mighty o's desk – he's gonna sign a turd and call it the greatest moment in US history.
There are lies, damned lies….and statistics.
You can formulate the incredible amounts of data relating to health coverage to form a table telling any story you want.
Look, the reality of the situation is that we need to make sure that Americans who don't have coverage, get it.
I mean, is preexisting even a real word? Either something is existing, or not existing. Can it be pre or post existing?
And, why would we choose to actively discriminate against fellow Americans? We find it hideous to disallow privileges (let alone rights) based on race, gender or religion. We say, 'people didn't choose to be born a certain race or gender (or most times, religion)'. We certainly don't discriminate against handicaps. Who chooses to be handicapped?
Yet, most on here profess the need to discriminate against those whom did NOT choose to get sick.
How can you sleep at night….wrapped tight in a blanket of bigotry?
Elections have consequences. How's that hope and change working out for everybody? …gag!
Pres. Reagan warned us of these communist.
Whaaattt are you trying to say???
I do believe one of the gripes is that people won't buy insurance untl they get sick. Like someone buying car insurance after a wreck. My charity has limits.
I'm not falling for your guilt trip tripe.
Guess I go look for a cush government job. There will be planety. I'm not paying for this crap. You guys can.
If you consider the artificial limitations placed on Dr.s & nurses we've got a problem. I'm saying artificial in that they don't have enough space in the schools. Unions demand that R.N.s do work that is properly delegated to a Medical Assistant. Nurse Practitioners can do the basic drudge work that Dr.s do
"Yet, most on here profess the need to discriminate against those whom did NOT choose to get sick."
ya got any, er, EVIDENCE to back up that pathetic straw-man?
/thinkin' "no" on that
How's about I respond with, say, a rational response to your *social justice* rant? Thanks, I will. We all agree reform is needed, and noone willfully wants to see any American citizen be denied needed medical care. But, 85% of American citizens are happy with their health insurance. So, we dismantle 100% of every health insurance plan, to accomodate the 15%? Unless you have never opened a newspaper, you know that government intervention (though well intended), into any private sector venture, leads to overruns, fraud, and catering to special interests. Why not just subsidize a high-risk pool for those uninsurable, just like Assigned Risk Pool for uninsurable automobile drivers, and National Flood Insurance for those who choose to live in flood zones. Reason? It decapitates the Left's desire to further the Socialist agenda to mirror the eutopia of Europe.
And, for the record, many of us have not in fact, slept at night, for over a year. When we do, we are blanketed in fear.
And, yes, my emphasis of American Citizen was intentional.
This will reform will add well over ten thousand HHS job, increase the cost of health insurance, put the government between you and your doctor, and bankrupt the country… otherwise it’s a pretty good bill.
Well, if you advocate denying coverage to individuals who are sick or have a disease (and did not choose to be in that condition), you are actively advocating discrimination.
What's confusing about that.
/thinkin' you ain't thinkin'
Move to Nebraska. Apparently they don't have to put as much into it as the rest of us.
i) I don't advocate *social justice*. Personally, I think they are mutually exclusive terms.
ii) 85%-15%…ok, so you are an advocate of a tyranny of the majority. Fair enough.
iii) Your desire for some sort of Jim Crow Insurance plan based on segregation is astounding.
iv) If we had universal health, you could probably get in to see a doctor for your insomnia.
Tarred, Feathered, and rode on a rail, all freakin 60 of them. Start with Mark Begich please.
@Dave Tallow, your the one advocating the tyranny buddy, this abominable piece of legislation is a monster and the mandate next fall will be to drive a stake through its heart and burn the corpse.
If you could put any more words into my mouth that were not stated, you would be a ventriloquist.
i) I understand why you think those terms are mutually exclusive. For you, rights are served up to you, at the expense of those who have committed a social injustice, like success, and they should be punished. You have no obligation to earn anything. Got it.
ii) ok, so you are an advocate of a tyranny of the minority. Works both ways.
iii) so, I am a bigot because I applaud the Assigned Risk Pool, and National Flood Insurance? YOU must be the bigot, to assume that only minorities are uninsurable drivers, or choose to live in a flood zone. And to assume that only minorities will benefit from this health insurance (not reform) plan.
iv) Thanks, but, I have Medicare. I could see my doctor for insomnia, if only I could find a doctor that still accepted Medicare.
apparently i need to repeat myself to get it through your thick skull —
"ya got any, er, **EVIDENCE** to back up that pathetic straw-man?"
Your right. It's not about universal health care it's about setting new precedence allowing the government to circumvent the Constitution.
LOL! Troll of the year! Start rearranging your mantle now. That statue is going to look nice right next to your framed lithograph of Marx.
Be sure to send us a photo of you standing proudly with your trophy. Wear your Che beret. That'll be a nice touch!
[...] Dr. David Janda, an orthopedic surgeon from Ann Arbor, Michigan, has this to say at Big Government: [...]
Discrimination is the favorite term used by communist to argue a point that they cannot win.
The most telling thing is that the Grinches have exempted themselves from the government-run healthcare system they intend to impose on us. if it is so wonderful why don't they want it for themselves?
And the uninsured go another 4 years without insurance, when there have been plans entered but ignored that would cover them right away. And the socialists call this progress…bull shit!
Here's a You Tube video of Rachel Maddow singing the Grinch song to Pelosi: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUJqImyCHqg
I'd like to know 2 things in this 'reform' that sound good to you. I haven't found any. It is not the federal governments job or even concern what me, my doctor or my insurance company are doing.
My mom is a teacher and she won't be able to retire in 3 years. THANKS OBAMA!
It is not the federal governments job or even concern what me, my doctor or my insurance company are doing.
Nope, they have to pay the extra taxes we have to as well.

Evidence that individuals who have a disease or sickness have been denied insurance coverage?
Aren't insurance companies and health care deniers claiming that providing coverage for individuals who have 'pre-existing' conditions will increase health costs?
I can only guess that if this would increase heath costs, well, then they aren't providing coverage for these people at present.
Logical?
Can you get that thru YOUR dense, empty cranium?
And labeling anyone who advocates governmental regulation in any way, shape or form as a 'communist' is a favorite tactic of those that can't even enter the argument.
i) ok. you clearly don't understand what the term mutually exclusive means.
ii) It works both ways when the minority is in the wrong. In this case, I think we can all agree that denying people health care is not wrong.
iii) Who said anything about minorities? The only person that mentioned minorities being bad drivers and such was YOU. Tells us where your mind is at….
iv) Isn't Medicare government subsidized and managed? Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh OK!!! GOVERNMENT INSURANCE FOR YOU BUT NOT FOR ANYONE ELSE!!!
OH MY GOD, YOU ARE THE BIGGEST HYPOCRITE ALIVE!!!!
You need to read Marx.
Might actually change your mind on what a Marxist is.
Not a fan of Che. I'm more of a Conservative than that.
Baloney.
The government has a right to know what you people are colluding to do.
Great Moments In History:
Where were you when JFK was shot?
Where were you when we landed on the Moon?
Where were you when the USA became a Socialist nation?
Last response to you, you mental midget. YOU brought up Jim Crow, not me. I never once assumed red-lining in existing plans, YOU did. And, here ya go. I was forced onto Medicare because I am disabled. But, although my daughter is eligible for SCHIP, I opt to do without other necessities, in order to buy her a private plan.
LIKE THIEVES IN THE DEAD OF NIGHT…….THEY VOTE!!!!!!!!!! IT STENCHES LIKE SOMETHING EVIL!!!! Why must they meet while all is calm, is it truly the "Calm before the storm"!!!!!!!! When these young people wake up and realize they have to pay the government to be an American, rebellion will set in…..where it will stop, no one knows!!!!!!
Well….. first there would have to be a coherent argument made in which to enter. As you have not, I will stand with tony_mac.
You are a communist playing a very weak discrimination card.
Yawn…… nothing new here.

sorry comrade
sorry that you feel like you don't need to have your freedom
I guess you like to have your live run for you so you can be lazy
I can't take credit for this little tune. Jan LaRue at American Thinker posted this. Quite appropriate:
You know Schumer and Durbin,
And Barney and Nancy
Waxman and Stupid (insert any leftist of your choice)
And Boxer and Kerry
But do you recall
The most famous failure of all?
Harry the red-faced leader
Has a very tiny brain
And if you ever heard him
You would get a great big pain
All of the saner voters
Worked hard to get rid of him
They never want ole Harry
Back in D.C. ever again
Then one foggy Christmas Eve
Barack came to say
Harry with your brain so light
Can you pass this bill tonight?
Then all the leftists blamed him
And they shouted where and when
Harry the red-faced leader
You'll go down in 2010.
Already have. You clearly qualify. But hey! Never be ashamed for what you are. Be that thing you love. Why make apologies? It's still a free country….I think!
Sheeshhh…more conservative than Che? That's your barometer? That statement says it all Dave.

So true. Nothing new at all.
Anyone who has a modern outlook on health care is a Communist.
Talk about playing a weak card!
Rockstone is a good name for someone with your brainwave activity.
Friend, how is expanding health coverage a restriction on my freedoms?
The only thing lazy here is your argument.
The question that repeats in my little brain is: How can the American public (Democrat or Republican) allow these fascists to even consider passing a bill of this magnitude without revealing the contents? It boggles the mind.
i) Jim Crow was brought up as in the analogical sense. Look that word up. (Calling people mental midgets when you aren't capable of more than a literal take on things, good grief!)
ii) So, you are one of those people eating up tax dollars for your coverage, and you don't want others on the program? You aren't just disable. You are also incredibly selfish.
Explain how advocating for the opportunity for all citizens to purchase health care is Marxist.
Please, I HAVE to hear this.
This should be good.
Yes it's discriminatory, in the same way a store discriminates against a non-paying customer. Businesses, until recently, had the right to refuse unprofitable clients.
Now, that has "changed," and as expected the middle class will pick up the tab.
No. Anyone with your outlook on healthcare is a communist. And of course, anyone who resorts to senseless name calling is beat on all fronts.
What happened to "entering the argument"?
Goodness, you are devoid of any intellectual thought. Millions of Americans will purchase health care with OUR money. You clearly have not read the bills. You DO understand that "government funded" means OUR taxpayer money? FFS, Goverment health care is NOT free. Someone pays.
i) My outlook on health care is that it should be available to all. Explain how that is communist.
ii) you named yourself.
iii) chasing me around a message board calling me a communist isn't really providing much of an argument to enter, now is it?
Since what you support is not simply an attempt to provide health care for those who currently can not access it but, in the Dem leaderships own words, is a complete overhaul, then you might have accomplished what you have been unable to on this entire thread.
That would be to have a salient point.
Explain please why it should take an "overhaul" and why that would not be Marxist and tyrannical in nature.
Now that ought to be good!
WoW I like it…being from Nevada I really appreciate the candor and truth!!!
The Conservative Edge
So I drink a bottle of Wild Turkey, smoke two packs of Marlboro and sustain myself on Big Macs, I don't intend to get sick, but it's very likely. How sorry will you feel for me then? Will you cherish paying my medical expenses for months and months of medical treatment? While I'm in a drunken stuper daily, my 16 year old daughter is having her second abortion and suffering for an STD. Welome her to your grand medical plan too? She's being treated for the STD and the Dr determines that she's abusing drugs. Please help me calculate the cost of treating a family like this. You may find it hard to believe, but there are a few million families like this in the USA today.
BTW, Papa doesn't have to pay premiums since he's unemployed. YOUR tax dollars at work huh?
Thank you Ray in Bangcok for the laugh. Harry "red- faced leader" is speaking at this moment in the senate. Wait…did I say speaking? I meant lying. I am literally nauseous. I don't know why I am torturing myself by not turning the channel, but I am still stunned this debaucle passed. They just voted for cloture. I'm sick.
Your attempt to equate the proverbial apple with the apparitious orange is faulty logic at its best.
Equating petty theft with fully funded government programs is about as lazy as one can get.
If you make less than 250K a year, you are the recipient of innumerable government entitlements. And guessing from your inability to understand the current health system (and I think your analogy allows me the cache to assume you don't understand it), you aren't burning up the business world.
Therefore, I can only assume that you feel it is fine for YOU to benefit from the programs funded mostly by other people….but you don't want to expand those benefits.
You keep pretending petty crime and government bureaucracy are on in the same; and those of us that get it will bring America a better future.
Through the past months these theives have secretly worked on Friday nights, weekends, and now Christmas to commit these crimes against US thinking we would not be attentive to them. As likely as KSM chopping our heads off and not noticing……
You've read all 2000 pages of both bills?
Don't YOU understand that in the end, costs will come DOWN?
THAT means, we will end up paying LESS.
It's in the bill AND in the CBO reports.
Get a grip, and a clue.
How are things in Bangkok, Ray?
It doesn't effect your freedoms because you choose not to have them
I however would like the freedom to have or not to have health insurance. Choosing between health insurance and having a home I will choose a roof over my head every time.
You LIBS make me laugh you have no concept of freedom.
I'll answer you question; even tho you cowardly avoided mine. Wonder why?
I can only begin to explain why if I get your input on this:
Is there a difference between health insurance and health care?
If there is a difference, would it mean that both would have to be reformed in order to ensure access?
If both are reformed, could it not be loosely termed as an overhaul? As it would require regulatory considerations, dynamic formations of new agencies to ensure access and compliance, agreements with device makers and big pharma, revamping cost structures…etc etc etc….
One of the key components to a Communist economy is the command element. Central control dictates production. The economy is centrally planned.
A capitalist society allows the market to dictate production. It's called a demand economy.
Now, really, how can the government decided how many people get sick?
They can't.
Therefore, this whole health care 'overhaul' is really only furthering the demand economy characteristic of a Capitalist society.
Your attempts to slander it with cries of Marxist or Communist only demonstrate the root problem:
Either you don't understand Capitalism…..or you HATE it and want to besmirch by calling it names in the hopes other ill informed troglodytes will get scared and stop it.
You, sir, are anti-Capitalist.
Why do you hate allowing the laws of supply and demand dictate our economy?
Now, I have answered question. Have the cajones to go back and answer mine.
Instead of fixing what's wrong with the system, they are going to ruin the whole healthcare system. No one can convince me over 2000 pages written by these idiots and__their stooges is going to turn out to be good for all of us. Costs are going down for all of us??..I doubt that!!….Just like costs went down for Medicare, Medicaid, and anything else the government put their hands into. Look what they did to the housing industry by having banks lend money to people that couldn't afford the mortgage payments. Anyone that has "blind" faith in the government isn't worth wasting your words on people!!
You will have the freedom not to have health insurance.
No where does it say you will be killed or shot or something if you don't have it.
Sure, you might be fined. But your fine is based on you FREE CHOICE not to have it.
When you drive, there is a speed limit. You have the right to drive at any speed you freely choose to…..but, if you get caught driving to fast, you are fined.
Why aren't you out protesting about speed limits being a violation of your free choice? How dare the government limit your right to drive at whatever speed you choose! Egads!
BTW, I am not liberal.
I just want health care fixed.
They passed the cloture vote……………….58 Dem and 2 Indies ( that would be Saunders and LIEberman ) vote ayed; ALL FORTY OF THE GOPERS VOTED NAY.
Now it goes to conciliation, where the House and Senate Bills get smushed together. Once that's done, it goes back to the House, to be voted on.
Even with this abomination, more than 22 million people will not be covered.
And it is NOT the government's place to take over the health care business.
Get thy powder out and keep it very very dry……….
wow aren't you a patriot! (sar)
Mr. Tallow your problem with the term pre-existing is poor logic and/or perspective.
The pre-existing condition(s) regarding health issues and medical insurance policies refers to whether the prospective insuree had the health issue(s) on or before the date he/she applies for a new health insurance policy. Pre-existing is in reference to the date of issue for the health insurance policy not the actual health issue itself.
Anyone NOT buying insurance WILL be fined and/or go to jail.
You claim to not be liberal, then you are a MARXIST or a SOCIALIST olr a COMMUNIST, because you aren't a "moderate" anything and you most assuredly aren't a conservative.
Jim Crow laws were brought to you by Dems; so is this vile government health mess, you so desperately crave. Neither are good things.
93 degrees and sunny. No "White Christmas" again this year.
Looks like Santa will bring you the Socialist health plan that you embrace.
There's no way that you can claim to be a "conservative" with a straight face!
You haven't posted anything that is the least "conservative", since you began to post here and everyone knows exactly what you are, you desolute troll disruptor.
The movers/shakers/closed door writers are Neo-Marxists; the rest of the Democrats are delusional fools.
Why not hand over ALL of the money you have as well as everything you earn, into perpetuity and then take what the government hands out to you, for housing, food, health care, clothes, all of your wants and needs? That's really what you arfe advocating, but don't realize it.
Of course what Obama and the Dems in Congress are trying to shove down our collective throats is "reform", but there is "good reform" and bad reform" and this is the worst of all world's "reform"! It is UnConstitutional and nothing more than a power grab.
You talk like a LIb. You know all they want is the power to control our lifes. It's not about fixing health care it's about controlling our lifes. If you want health care fixed ,fix it yourself, stand up and be a man.
Besides all insurance is a scam. We are better off without it.
excellent – a cut of $500 billion should reduce our tax bill (chortle, chortle)…
EVERY SINGLE GOP SENATOR VOTED AGAINST CLOTUER; ALL 40 OF THEM !
That means that 58 damned Dems voted for it plus the two ( ha ha ) "Independents"… LIEberman and Sanders, who honestly calls himself a SOCIALIST.
lol
I have never seen so much sheep in one place. This website allows only one opinion- just like True Communists do.
Already answered your question Dave. Try reading my answer. You are not just trying to provide healthcare to people without it. There is no other answer to that question as it is at best, disengenious and deflective as to what you really hope to achieve.____Plain and simple.
Thanks for the batting practice. I feel properly stretched to move on to someone outside the single digit IQ category. I would ask you for a referral to such a site but you wouldn't know one.
And one other thing to aid you in your education. Capitalism relies on not just the freedom of the indivdual but also the initiative of the individual.
Your vision has neither.
The GOP needs to get out in front of all of this and call it what it is…. an unconstitutional power grab. The federal government does not have the power to do this and the GOP should go out of it's way to get in front of this and to tell the populace that not only will they obstruct as best they can, they will take every measure known to undo this when the dems are voted out next year. There needs to be a clear and absolute distinction made. DO NOT ACCEPT the libtard premise that healthcare needs fixing by the Federal Government! NOooooo. Clear majorities say do nothing! Go with that. PLEASE. Othewise, the tea party movement will feel they must push towards a third party and that will lead to failure.
I really don't know what your freakin problem is. I hate what's going on with my country and totally against this stupid bill. Let me share with you. Three years ago I was told that I had cancer. I had good insurance, cost me 5000 a year. I am retired however, I did not qualify for medicare until 4 months after my cancer surgery. I run a budget for myself every month. It is important to me that I pay my bills. I was brought up to be responsible. I used my month to month cash flow and was able to pay off all my medical bills the insurance did not cover in two years. I made it through my cancer because I had a PLAN. This is not to say some people need some help. However, I do believe most of us do ok without the need for the federal GOVERNMENT to get as involved as this bill allows them to do. I had a good relationship with my wonderful doctors, five of them, because I paid my bills. By-the-way, my IRA had been wipped out due to the economy sitution and my financial plan still worked for me. I hate this bill. The federal government needs to leave me the heck ALONE. I choose to be responsible for ME. I DON'T TRUST THE GOVERNMENT ANY MORE.
Mr. Tallow: What the F[orensic] U[niversity] of C[entral] K[entucky] are you trying to say?
I ask you the same question you posed at the end of your rant -'How can you sleep at night….wrapped tight in a blanket of bigotry? ' Your attacks against those that have legitimate criticisms of the pending "health care" legislation are. at best, overly simplistic.
senah, The cush government job you seek will get you maybe $24,000 a year and tons of headaches dealing with a bunch of politically correct, beaurocratic idiots. Trust me, if you want to maintain your sanity, get a job as a manager at Taco Bell. it pays better.
Dave
I replied to you earlier. I too would like to see some reform. We can do better than this bill. I am not afraid of being responsible for myself.

So did I. Found it worthy to borrow and post here. Merry Christmas.
Amen FlatTaxer! Conservatives are mean, bad, greedy, stupid, tabacce chawin' morons who need the left to run their shallow lives. Over it. I have come to the conclusion that the divide between right and left is so large it has reached Biblical proportions. At least that is one positive change Obama has given us…clarity of purpose and unflinching refusal to compromise our beliefs. I have reached my gag point with the blah, blah, blah pathetic attempts at shaming me while they take down our country.
I'm pushing 70 and I swing a "mean" broom stick. That's all I've got. Sounds like a great New Years Party.
Mr. Tallow-
If my house were on fire, should I be able to call up an insurance company and get fire insurance? Should the "pre-existing" condition of my house matter?
You and the rest of the left have made a corrupt bargain here. You have decided to game the system, to the benefit of insurance companies, so that each of us–at some magical point in history–"have" health insurance. That's what you call health care reform?!?!
Insurance is merely a payment plan. It isn't health care. Cutting half a trillion from Medicare in the face of an aging population to try to duct-tape us into a system where, on some particular day, we all have 'health insurance', isn't a serious or responsible response to the problem.
I'm sorry sir, but your side has failed on this. And it will pay a price in just about 11 months.
A good article and so true… DavieTallow, no one is refused care at a hospital in this country. Most are medicaid eligible, especially the illegals, so the hospital treats all, signs them onto Medicaid, and sends the bill to medicaid. And as medicaid pays so little, hospitals rely on the private insurance of other patients to pick up that slack. So what happens when the private payors go bye bye? Whose going to pick up the slack? No one! The government will streamline. How will they do that? One way, will be to close hospitals and merge leaving one to travel a lot longer depending on location. For regular check-ups you'll be seen at a chaotic, overpopulated clinic with rude clerks and a busy Nurse Practitioner – not a private MD -NP is cheaper – and you won't get to see an MD unless referred by the NP. You'll wait weeks until you see an MD, again at the outpatient clinic you'll be allocated to, or maybe you'll get a Senior Resident as they're even cheaper. You will never see the same MD or Senior Resident as they rotate. If you need a referral to a Specialist it'll take months therefore in many cases you'll be waiting for a diagnosis thus waiting for treatment.
Continued:…All in all we'll be paying three times the amount for less. How does that grab you David? Who will you complain to when you're kept waiting months for an appt? The government? lol Who will you complain to when you're treated poorly by a hospital employee who belongs to the SEIU? Your own MD? Nope, you don't have one anymore. The Nurse Manager? She's owned by the SEIIU workers. The hospital administrator? Ditto. Nobody will give a damn about you – period. You will need a relative or friend to stay with you 24×7 who'll advocate for you in place of your own MD. The advantages of having your own private MD are too numerous to mention but you'll find that out soon enough. I've lived in a socialized health system and it stinks! Yes, this system is controlling. They'll forbid things like guns, food, drink, etc. all in the name of health. They'll force you to have shots you might not want but if you're noncompliant and you get sick – you've earned yourself the label of a noncompliant patient and all that it entails. I could go on but…

"Isn't Medicare government subsidized and managed?"
Hypothetically, no (it is, but only because of after the fact congressional tinkering). Medicare recipients pay 2.9% of their lifetime earnings (50% each, employee/employer) into Medicare. They cannot qualify for Medicare until age 65, so roughly 45 years. At an annual average of $25,000 per year earnings, that's a bit over $30,000 paid in (in a privatized account, there would be compound interest, but hey, it's only our money). A pretty good percentage of people drop dead in their early 60's or before, so whatever they paid in, stays in – they never collect.
(continued)
(continued)
At age 65 plus two months, they can enroll in medicare and then they pay (currently) about $100 per month for Medicare premiums (usually deducted from their Social Security check), plus the first $150 or so of any medical expenses per year, plus 20% of billed charges. The doctor/practitioner is only reimbursed about 50% of his charges, so the docs have to raise basic rates to make up the shortfall. Those in reasonably good health will not usually run up the full annual amount they pay in premiums/deductable, etc, and if they die without a serious or lingering illness, that original $30 Grand (or whatever) was just so much down the toilet. You getting the point?
Honestly, how much kool-aid have you had tonight? Do you have a government job or are you chronically unemployed? Do you pay income tax? Please tell me how it is possible to calmly accept your money being stolen and squandered while your country is collapsing? I can't imagine anyone so mindlessly giving up their HARD EARNED money to government unless they are dependent on it to take care of them cradle to grave. In case you need clarification on the difference between left and right here it is… conservatives are weaned. What is so difficult to understand about not wanting to be controlled? Re: benefits and on and on and on…give it up! It is impossible for any conservative to ever successfully explain to you what it is to WANT to be independent of goverment, even if it means forfeiting it programs. I believe our brains are just hard wired differently.
"…costs will come DOWN?"
Yeah, in your dreams. THINK! Why are costs (for medical care, not for insurance, two different issues) so high? Two primary factors: Defensive medical practicing, and price leveraging by the insurance industry – with Medicare/Medicaid the WORST offenders. Price leveraging forces practitioners to, in effect, make up the shortfall from self-pay patients by raising basic rates (laws against different charges for insured/uninsured). Higher rates make self-payers skip care, or opt into an insurance plan, which due to leveraging, again causes more rate hikes. Get the picture?
Reform would require tort reform (or shelter laws, holding practitioners lawsuit-proof as long as all proper procedures were followed), and a prohibition or serious limit on price leveraging, as well as repeal of (state-by-state) coverage mandates that prohibit policies that don't cover things like gender reassignment and optional procedures – let the insured hash out coverage preferences with insurer when entering into private contracts. This bill has nothing to do with health "care" and NOTHING to do with "reform."
I'll play: "How can the government determine how many people get sick?"
It's worse than that – the government, under this monstrous betrayal of the public trust, can determine how many and which people get left to die in overcrowded hospital corridors, and waiting for "their turn" to receive treatment. If they're between 16 and 40 years of age, they've got half a chance. The rest of us can pound sand, unless we have the private means our elected representatives have got.
A modern outlook on health care??? Are you nuts??? What is so modern about herding people together like cattle and giving the 'all mighty government' charge over their health care??? More like Medieval …!!
LOL!!! Using all those big words does not help your brainless argument!!!
Weren't you able to comment dip-shit?

" leads to overruns, fraud, and catering to special interests."
It used to lead to that now it does not have to anymore. We have the most corrupted government we have ever had. We rank right up there with the chavez of the world. I am sick to see how the corruption has more than tripled in just a few month.
He the anointed one has promised not to sign any bill with pork. What the he** do they call this bill, with Landrieu's gift now Nelson's long live Nebraska free ride. Only one thing is obvious it is a big CORRUPTION.
And, yes, my emphasis of American Citizen was intentional.
Oh Dear Sybill the Americans of today will be enriched by millions of new citizens in a few weeks when the mighty ones will pass behind close doors with billions for the one who will hold out the longest the amnesty for everyone.
Oh for the idiots who will call me bigot "I am an immigrant" Legal and all, and saddened to see what is going on, I liked the freedom we used to enjoy. I might now have more freedom where I came from they are only socialist.
OMG THE DRAMA QUEENS ARE OUT AND THEIR SLIPS ARE SHOWING!!!
First of all, it's not Universal Health Care. That element and all avenues of that element were removed earlier this week. Haven't you read the news outside your right-wing bubble? The Progressives are pissed now because this health care reform is a joke. Haven't you seen the astro-turf machines like Conservatives For Patients Rights and FreedomWorks have suddenly become quiet about the issue? Because the legislation just mandated for the insurance companies to get 30 million new customers and we all know how obediently indoctrinated you have been to defending those elites.
And the "Grinch's Health Care"? You couldn't write something for intelligent people?

It's jus inconceivablethat there is nothing in the Constitution or Congressional mandate that doesn't require it to be a matter of public record. I still hold out hope that something will derail this insanity before it finalizes.
All I want for Christmas is……………
Since the "death panel" or whatever you'd like to call it was put in place in the stimu-less bill, after waiting months to see a doctor, the patient could be denied treatment. In England, it's taken on a case by case basis; here it will be based upon generalities, ie. age, usefulness in society, etc. This bill is all about payoffs to the unions (propping them up like a Ponzi scheme) who put Obama in power and selling government heatlh insurance. It's not about quality of care. With the major cuts to medicare and the gutting of medicare Advantage and adding 30-50 million to the rolls, there will be severe rationing for seniors. In other words, seniors' lifespan will be drastically cut by a panel of Marxists radicals.
Don't forget the IRS having direct access to your bank account to apply "fines." What other taxes will eventually be imposed this way? No one argues that insurance rates need to go down. Right now, our insurance premiums equal our house payment. But our premiums will almost double under this plan because we're going to be paying for all those new government workers staffing the added 111 new Federal agencies of pencil pushers who will be getting free healthcare under this bill. Plus the quality of care will go down. Look how the price of Lazik went down; everyone's doing it now and it drives down the price.
Also, Pelosi cut a deal with the insurers to insure those with pre-existing conditions but they will be immune to lawsuits. So they can deny treatment and the patient has no recourse.
Part of the Progressives problem is that they do not understand one basic fact, that death is a part of life. Those who refuse to insure themselves with the multitude of $80 a month healthcare packages that exist but instead purchase I-Pods, designer clothes, fancy cars, rims, sunglasses, cds, dvds, I-Phones and hundreds of dollars of month of cell phone coverage are indeed asking for death to enter their life at a much faster rate than those who choose to insure themselves. That is a fact. Sure there are those who are truly stricken by tough times and there ALREADY exists safeguards for those people in our government. It is funny how Progressives can argue AGAINST religion and FOR eugenics and Darwinism, but when it comes to healthcare they immediately abandon those principles. AIDS is not a pre=existing condition. HIV and then AIDS is an AQUIRED disease, and thus not pre-existing in the genetic DNA of the individual. By rules of mathematical logic dear sir, you lose. Your faulty reasoning and logic have been exposed. Please exit the debate. When you can expose one part of an inductive, deductive or bi-conditional argument as false, then the entire argument is false. Good day sir.
we do not accept it – the problem is the folks that see this for what it is are the average go to work in the morning Americans, we have not been the protesters, the political watchdogs- until now. we knew politicians were lying scum but they did not seem to affect us personally so we ignored them and tolerated them. they were like the school bully – they took our lunch money every day and went away – we tolerated it and went about our lives. now they are emboldened by their numbers and power, they are mocking us openly. they may have poked the sleeping dog one time to many, it`s time to bloody the bully`s nose. we let this happen – we`re gonna have to fix it. with luck we can start the repair with our votes in November – if not, are we ready as a country for plan B? we better decide that quickly.
how exactly does our reading this communist manifest do any good? and have you considered that ray in bangkok is just exactly what he says he is – only he lives right down the street from you? sleep well.
legislation forcing American citizens to purchase something simply to be a citizen under threat of punishment is not in the copy of the constitution I have. it does not matter whats is or is not in it. curious how you will justify that .
you handle your spot and I`ll handle mine. If I choose to help you I will – you are not owed anything.

Totally agree with your anology. However, I fear that these animals will socialize/bankrupt our country in the next 13 months. I am also concerned that at this pace, the only alternative that will be left will not be pretty, which will also be destructive to the country. In my six decades on this earth, I never imagined that we would find ourselves in such a situation. It makes a grown man want to cry.
I sleep quite well no matter where any of you are. I support my 2nd Amendment rights too and I will sleep well after you bleed out on my lawn.
tears of sorrow and tears of rage, blood of tyrants and patriots – we play the hand, not fold it.
Oh look…suddenly you care because a Democrat is in charge. Put a Conservative like Sarah "GW III" Palin in the White House and you'll be just as obedient as you were with the first GW and just as obedient with Reagonomics where spending doubled income practically on a 3 to 1 ratio. You are obedient to the party starznbarz and only care when a party you don't like is in control. Put tea-baggers in control and God have mercy on those who don't support spending a trillion dollars bailing out the Iranians like we did the Iraqis because helping extremists is patriotism, helping Americans is socialism.
I won't even pay the $750 fine…..I will go to jail to get free -3 squares a day, housing, and FREE Healthcare when I'm in Jail.
I have played by the rules all my life, but corruptness in Corporations & government at all levels, my rollercoaster of mustering up a good savings ISN'T SH_TT. SO I say, I will Screw the Establishment any way I can, because the FEDERAL Gov. is piiiiissssing BILLIONS all over the world. IF the Legislators Won't go to jail for their criminal acts, why should I for peanuts.
Legal U.S. citizens will be jailed for failing to buy and pay for health insurance while illegals go on their merry way.
Amen. The first post that actually addresses the true problem with health care.
Of course its not mentioned much.
When did we loose the republic?
Now?
Or is it already gone?
It is going to take a long time to get it back.
Yes we can!!
Democrats who do this dishonorable deed of fleecing America by taking advantage of their numbers rather than serving their constituencies as one believes they are required to do — become the lame duck party. Cooperation with people who refuse to listen to the electorate will be hard to come by. In fact, they will probably spend a lot of time fighting their way out of the corner they are painting themselves into. Very sad for America.
Well hello Syn……..
It is not health care reform, that is a misnomer. Further, there is no health care "crisis". The only crisis is a manufactured, fabrication. Just as LBJ commented after signing the Civil Rights Act: "Well boys, after today we'll have those stupid Negroes voting Democrat for the next 200 years", Obama has picked up the mantle and is carrying the torch. Or should I say carrying the water, for the Party. Obunghole is nothing but a Moocha Militant Mulatto water boy………..
How can you sleep at night….wrapped tight in a blanket of bigotry?
There are lies, damned lies….and statistics.
There is no Common Sense in this bill.
Talk about discriminate against fellow Americans, all you have to do is live in Nebraska or Louisiana to get "SPECIAL" rates for Medicare…for the same type of coverage thru out the country.
I'm going to SUE, Because I'm getting discriminated against, because I chose no to live in those States.
Understood. However the Publius post SOLD: Sen. Nelson's Bribe indicates to me that living in Nebraska means one would be paying slightly less than the rest of us. To wit:
"Below is the text for Nelson’s bribe. Under this language the federal government will forever cover the costs of Medicaid expansion in Nebraska. Taxpayers in every other state will forever be responsible for the expanded Medicaid program in Nebraska."
I'm not arguing, I'm just sayin'….
Good morning Mr. Logic,
Every month, my insurance premiums are higher than my monthly mortgage payment. Every year, I have my health care rationed by denied claims or pre-authorizations or having some bureaucrat tell my Doctor that a procedure is "experimental, voluntary or not medically necessary". Every year, my premiums go up and every year I get rationing letters from my insurance company telling me this or that is no longer going to be covered. And death panels? Do you have any idea what a "Case Review Board" is at an insurance company? The text book definition of a death panel.
It's easy to bitch and moan about government run health care when you have Veterans Administration and/or Medicare and those people have the luxury of sucking off the teat of a government run health care plan paid for by tax dollars but some of us live in the real world.
If there is any crisis in the health care realm – it's with the current state and federal regulations and government programs. Real world says there are walk in clinics everywhere in the country. You can lay cold hard cash on the counter and get a doctor to treat you in every city in the country. I do it all the time. What most people want is catastrophic insurance plans to pay for major medical. I don't need a "co-pay" to go to the doctor every 3 or 4 years. Let's see, I pay $3000 or more a year for a $60 docotor visit. The math tells me that one visit costs me about $12,000 instead of $60. I don't need some politician telling me what I need.
Health care is America's ENABLING ACT.
oh yeah. But I'm just saying while the state of Nebraska gets the extra money, the citizens are still on the hook for the extra taxes.
It is a burden we all will pay.
And in November, the democrats will start to pay.
Dave does not want take responsibility. He is spineless little tweet who want others to pay for his healthcare. I have bad news for you, little tweet. You will be likely denied than approve to save cost. Enjoy your useless healthcare, s***r.
Therein lies the problem. This bill is intended to support those that are disuising themselves as "uninsurable" but not by pre-existing condition, but because they don't want to get a job or work out a plan and pay for their own medical bills. I pay every time I go see a doctor. There are walk-in clinics everywhere in America and they take cash, credit card, check, etc. So the argument that there are folks who are dying from swine flu because they don't have insurance is so pathetic. Tell them to go to their local county government disease control center and get a shot. I just sent my whole crew overseas. I spent $1200 to get them their shots. Didn't need insurance or government to do that, just cold hard cash. I agree – the government needs to stay the hell out of my business.
Those who choose to trade safety for their freedom deserve neither. Government involvment in health care is unconstitutional, an usurpation of authority not granted to them, and they way they've done this bill is a total despotism and boarders on tyranny. Everyone already had a choice to pay for the medical bills or not and suffer the consequences. How do you think this government intervention is not a confiscation of the fruits of my labor to give to someone else?
The cost will never go down. I know you are intellectually illiterate, but did you know Medicare denied more than healthcare provided?
I know. Are you up for a massive protest in DC (District of Corruption) on 4/15/10? Five million would be a good number.
Great site. Sorry but I didn't know about it either. Thanks for the info.
circumvent? more like put through the shredder at the speed of light!!
Nelson's deal should trigger 49 law-suits from the other States who didn't get their sweet heart deal….then followed by insurance companies (who have standing) and aren't getting the tax break the companies in Nebraska will get out of this blatant act of bribery by reid and company…..
what he fails to understand is that you can (like illegal aliens) walk into any emergency room and get treatment with no $$ or identification. There are a number of hospitals throughout the U.S. who take care of people for no charge who have serious diseases. While good health is a blessing, it is by no means a right that should be controlled by govenment! The transfer of other people's money via the taxes or sweetheart deals included in this so called health bill is unconstitutional. The taking of property (your $$$) without due process is illegal…where is the due process? the congress? the president? nothing has been ruled in court yet so this is an illegal unconstitutional act!
Dang it sure is nice to be a senior citizen in this country and can only get better right? Well not really. The demonrats want seniors to help pay for this scam but at the same time kill us off. I wonder how that's gonna work out in a about 10 years? I suppose they figure all the fines collected for non-compliance in buying guvmint health insurance will offset the amount of seniors dying off and not paying into Obumba's Healthcare scam bill any longer. Gonna create jobs too for folks that build new prisons for those who don't get health insurance. Dang these liberals are so smart.
you can be forced onto medicare if you become disabled and social security (your money) declares you as such and pays you SS disability…I'm under 65 and am on it…and the premiums must be deducted from your check….
You have no idea what you are talking about on so many levels. Being a communist is the least of your troubles. What makes you think everyone is going to be covered? By their own admission they are leaving out 23 million people(Senate), or 18 million (House). How do you think you can cut $500 million from medicare, increase the number of people on medicare AND not ration care. I hope you never need some care that has been rationed away from you in the name of "covering " everybody. Helath care is "available" to all now, it's just not run by the government. Educate yourself before you start ranting about "covering all".
Then you obviously weren't in the Dimocrap's senate chamber earlier today.
If it's so unpleasant here, why do you even come here? Nevermind, I forgot, Dimocraps like their sheep.
and the people have no right to know what the bill says (closed door meetings and yet no bill on line for 72-hours as promised) and who is really writing these bills? The senators? I think not…they are too busy sitting in chairs spouting political crap or flying around to parties or foreign countries on our dime (san fran nan at dopenhagen)….none of this is top-secret although one might argue it could be of national security issue and should be in full view of the American public for all to see!!! It surely was promised by piglosi, reid, and dear leader….so let's see it….
Welcome to the USSA folks….
the troll is a zero liability voter….let him figure that one out….
and yes they WILL be included in this bill! of course there will be no penalty for them, they just move get another fake social card/name and do it all over again!! Defeat the guiterrez bill!! heck illegals hardly go to jail for any of their crimes or repeated illegal entries but Americans will go for not buying insurance?? geeze this country is so messed up!!!

Myna, I have health care thru my employer.
My concerns are the escalating costs.
Clearly, passed on the fact you are contributing nothing but name calling….you don't understand the issues.
Please stand aside, and let those of us that DO understand the issues decide what is best.
Thanks.
Sir, clearly if the government leaves you to your own devices, you will find a way to game the system.
As you just admitted you are trying to do.
I am not a communist. So you can cross that off of my troubles list.
Ranting?
No ranting here. Measured, rational and accurate discourse.
I leave the ranting to those that are afraid of progress.
Rant on.
So, if I don't agree with your views, I'm a Commie?
People go to jail for not paying taxes. They can go to jail for not paying child support. Along with many other things.
I guess that if I support locking up deadbeat dads, that makes me a Commie, too?
Quit limiting yourself by trying to define people with such limiting terms.
Are you against paying into social security also?
What, exactly is being taken from you?
Again, what are you giving up????
Dave Tallow, You have no idea what you're supporting. The structure WILL be similar to Medicaid except worse especially since there'll be multimillions more utilizing it. Medicaid is Socialized Medicine is THE SINGLE PAYOR SYSTEM. That's their intent. Ring-ding – Bernie Sanders got 10 billion for COMMUNTIY CENTERS aka CLINICS – that's the future. Read my previous posts above and you'll find a brief outline on how it'll work.
Guns will be decreed as having adverse effects toward the collective community causing health care expense. Guns are confiscated in the name of health. Organic only food will be decreed – for your own good and that of the collective don''t you know. Meat and Poultry, Canned Food Companies etc., will have to shut-down w/ ranchers and farmers out of business – less jobs and more dependence on BIG GOVERNMENT. There won't be enough food so what happens especially in the cities? Think about it. Fluids – nothing carbonated – Coke etc shuts down – less jobs and more dependence on BIG GOVERNMENT.
contin…..Water will also be scarce because there'll be scare-news by the state-run media about tainted water. Remember the Apel scare? Currently we've had farms shut-down and water shut-off because of a little minnow type fish. What I'm saying isn't far-fetched and it's only a minuscule of what will happen, in fact, happening as we speak albeit slowly but this will accelerate. We used to feed third world countries but that's been difficult due to land mass confiscation by the preservation nazi – millions in poorer countries have died of starvation over the last decade due to our inability to grow as many crops – we haven't seen it via the state-controlled media but it doesn't mean it's not and hasn't happened. We could have saved millions with generic food but they were banned – just like DDT was banned. The UN and their milk debacle in Iraq was but one example of corruption.
We have groups, such as the Fenton Foundation, who continues to boast on how they shut-down Apple Orchards (Apel) on a scare which had no merit. They've made millions, they were the first in NO after Katrina, and they're still there faking data and getting rich on the backs of the poor. They're also in the schools. You don't know what's going on but do some research. Anyone who thinks we'd never get to the starvation stage aren't thinking long-term. There are socalled elitists who wouldn't think twice in ridding the world of multi-milliions of people – all for the greater collective good, of course. I encourage you to do some research…
We can all thank Sen. Olympia Snowe (R), Maine, for voting this out of committee. /s
I'm just going to kill myself now and save some money.
But on the left, the sentiments of a liberal base that revolted over concessions to moderates were channeled Sunday by Howard Dean, the former Democratic National Committee chairman, who last week repeatedly called on Democrats to scrap the bill.
“This can’t be the final version of the bill,” Dean said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “It simply sets us on a track in this country which is expensive and where we’re going to have lots more political fights.”
In a slight shift, however, Dean tempered his words, saying the bill is better than it was earlier in the week.
“I would certainly not vote for this bill if this were the final product,” Dean said. “I would let this thing go to conference committee, and let’s see if we can fix it some more.”
Andy Stern, president of the Service Employees International Union, identified areas beyond the public option in which Democrats in both chambers could agree, including boosting the federal insurance subsidies for middle-income Americans and strengthening insurance regulations.
“It is about progress, and we now have to fight for the changes in the conference committee and decide, when it is over,” whether to support it, Stern said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
Senior administration officials contend the conference will not be as difficult as predicted because the differences between the two chambers have been known for months. “Once the Senate passes this bill, obviously there’s work to be done,” White House senior adviser David Axelrod said on “State of the Union.”
Two big voices in the health-reform debate came out with endorsements of the measure moving ahead in the Senate this week: the Federation of American Hospitals, which represents private community hospitals, and AARP, the nation’s largest seniors organization, which urged the Senate to move ahead with debate.
In addition, Democrats desperately tried to avoid an ugly public fight over abortion, but it looks as though the issue will haunt them right up until the end.
Abortion-rights supporters and foes alike blasted the compromise Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) cut with Nelson late Friday night. But it’s unclear whether their opposition will be enough to sink the broader bill.
“I have some deep reservations with this Nelson language on first examination,” Rep. Diana DeGette (D-Colo.), a co-chairwoman of the Congressional Pro-Choice Caucus, told POLITICO on Sunday.
Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.), a leading abortion opponent, said during the weekend, “While I and many other pro-life Democratic House members wish to see health care coverage for all Americans, the proposed Senate language is unacceptable.”
The final Senate bill grants state legislatures the right to prevent insurance plans that operate in the proposed health insurance exchange from covering elective abortions. The changes also require people who seek abortion coverage through the exchange to pay two separate checks each month to their insurance company to “segregate” federal funds from private funds that pay for abortion.
Reproductive-rights advocates argue the new system would create a more onerous burden for women seeking coverage for the procedure, while abortion opponents have argued throughout the debate that segregating payments still violates the existing prohibition on federal funds being used to pay for abortion.
Douglas Johnson, the legislative director of the National Right to Life Committee, called the changes “book-keeping contortions” and said that his group plans to put pressure on any senator who votes to consider the changes Reid unveiled.
But the real fight will occur in negotiations between House and Senate leaders over a final bill.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California can’t afford to lose any Democrats. And with Stupak threatening to vote against the Senate compromise, she’ll need to offset his vote with other Democrats who voted against it the first time. She might be able to pick up some moderate-to-conservative Democrats who favor the Senate approach, but many of these lawmakers will need to be OK with the final abortion restrictions.
On the other side, a bloc of abortion-rights backers, led by DeGette, has already promised to vote against any bill that includes Stupak’s amendment, which would prevent people who receive government subsidies from purchasing coverage for elective abortions through the exchange. DeGette believes many of the 41 Democrats who voted for Stupak and “yes” on the House health care bill are willing to work with party leaders to find a middle ground.
The opposing camps are similarly entrenched on the public option and the method for financing the health care expansion. The House would create a government-sponsored insurance plan, but the Senate bill is silent on this point. After several attempts at compromise, Reid nixed the public option altogether.
The taxes could prove difficult to bridge. The House relies on a so-called millionaires’ tax, and has refused to consider the tax on expensive insurance plans. The Senate has taken the exact opposite posture. But because the White House has weighed in several times in favor of the tax on “Cadillac” plans, as a key component to slow the growth rate in health care spending, the Senate is likely to win this round.
Meanwhile, Republicans increaed their attacks on the bill Sunday, criticizing a variety of deals cut to win the votes of Democratic senators, such as Nelson, who got the federal government to pick up the cost of any Medicaid expansion under the health reform bill in the state of Nebraska forever. Republicans said Democrats have refused to say which state would get about $100 million inserted into the bill on behalf of a still unidentified university hospital.
“This process is not legislation. This process is corruption,” said Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.). “And it’s a shame that that’s the only way we can come to consensus in this country is to buy votes.”
But Nelson defended his efforts. “I always put Nebraska first,” he told POLITICO in an interview Saturday. “But I looked at this through the standpoint of Nebraskans and the country. … There is a difference between holding out for something and holding up. I was holding out for something to make it better.”

Because most of the American public that don't have a "little brain" go to websites like senate.gov and REEEAAADDDD the legislation. Truly sorry that boggles your mind.
dave tallow, haven't you heard? it still won't cover everyone who needs it. duh.
I refuse to buy it and i refuse to pay the "fine" or "mob protection money"
we are not screwed. just don't buy into it. they can't build jails large enough to put us all. and if they do, how will they get their money?
starve the beast!
So, you are saying that for people that don't have insurance, this is a good thing.
I get it.
i) cost are up because of corporate greed.
ii) sounds like you are calling for more government regulation. i agree.
479,520 minutes. 7992 hours. 333 days.
That's how long it's been since Barack Obama was sworn in as President. At the end of this first year, some progressives are feeling holiday blahs because we haven't won everything we wanted.
Don't.
Remember our hard battle at the start of the year over whether to direct our tax money toward creating jobs and stimulating the economy? Won that one. Here in my hometown construction workers are doubling the size of our overburdened community health clinic thanks to that stimulus money, and similar worthy projects across the country kept thousands of Americans working. ( support our work to rebuild and renew America's economy. )
How about the F-22 fighter jet? TrueMajority members have worked for years to end that wasteful project, and this July we won THAT one, freeing up $65 billion in Pentagon pork spending for more urgent needs. ( support our work for sensible budget priorities. )
Then there's healthcare. Progressives are still arguing over whether the current deal is good enough, and if there is a better strategy for winning more. But even the weakest deal under consideration, which already passed the Senate this weekend, will insure 30 million more people and outlaw insurance companies refusing coverage for pre-existing conditions. By any measure that's a victory for our side. ( support our work for quality, affordable health care for all. )
And yes, there is still a daunting amount to do.
A few days ago Rep. Alan Grayson of Florida read your petition opposing the escalation in Afghanistan on the floor of the U.S. House. Meanwhile we delivered the almost 100,000 signatures — including thousands of TrueMajority members — alongside veterans and other anti-war activists. (If you haven't already, check out the video of Rep. Grayson and some of the veterans we worked with saying 'THANKS' to TrueMajority/USAction members for their support.)
But our signatures alone aren't going to be enough. Progressive champions in the House are ready to oppose the $1 trillion cost of the escalation, but there simply aren't enough of them yet. We need your support to convince more members of Congress to demand an end to the war and a plan to bring everyone home. Donate now to make that possible.
In 333 days we've done some remarkable work, but we've also learned this year that the fight for change is a marathon, not a sprint.
Thanks again for a great year

and the whole team at TrueMajority / USAction
Just wrote St. Jude's hospital and told them I will no longer be making a monthly contribuition. l've been told that everyone will now have affordable healthcare, so I no longer need to donate to the less fortunate. I suggest everyone start writing their favorite charities with the same notice.
Dave, haven't you notice you are the only one who likes this bill? Look at the people posting here, even the ugly Keith Olbman does not like this. The only reason this was pass is because they bribed all the politicians of billions of dollars and you think that you get your coveted healthcare?
No, five million will be a good start.
The problem once this is implemented Geithner will have access to your bank account. You can't hide your money unless you start hiding it under your mattress.
How do you leap from me advocating for an affordable option for American health insurance….to government control of all money?
Come on.
If you can't be constructive, please let those of us with real answers debate.
I'm against abortion.
Can you please site exactly what data shows that corruption has tripled in just a few months.
Thanks.
So, anyone that has an opinion that isn't lock stepping with yours is a troll?
How evolutionary.
Please give me an example of another major bill that WASN'T deliberated on behind chamber doors?
Seriously, get a grip.
Right.
It is a term used to decided whether or not to discriminate against an individual based on his health.
I get that.
i) I am not on the left. In this America, I am clearly in the middle.
ii) No. I call what you are talking about 'health insurance' reform. Other parts of the bill, which you aren't talking about, are the 'health care' aspect.
iii) My side is America. Please don't attempt to draw lines in the sand and place me on one side or the other based on YOUR personal views.
You've only exposed the fact that you are arguing against points that I am not making.
Therefore, you have debunked an argument that I never made.
When you debunk an argument with yourself, you have never entered the debate.
Good day, indeed, sir.
Helping America = Socialism? HAHAHAHA that was the funniest thing I've read all day. So Syntax…tell me all about your experience living in a Socialist country. I'd love to hear and debate your anecdotes.
I can see why the second amendment is important to you. too bad you don`t have a grip on the rest of the constitution/bill of rights. you seem to think you know a lot about me – obedience is not my strongest inclination, as it seems intelligence is not yours. forced help is communism, voluntary help is compassion – something Americans do more than any other people.
Spoken like a true regressive. Socialist Health Systems have been around for decades. Is this the "modern" of which you speak?
Tell me, how much do you actually know about Public Health systems that hasn't come out of one of your talking points media?
Yes.
Alot of money per paycheck when taxes increase as they will because they ALWAYS have under a public system. Or does historical record mean nothing to you?
No one is DENIED health care. They are free to purchase it if they want. *sigh* It's like trying to debate a zombie it really is…
Take your stupid sarcasm and stuff it!
You SHOULD thank Snowe and ALL of the GOP Senators for sticking together!
Why don't you get it? This makes it all the DEMS" fault. Barry can't claim that it was a "bipartisan" thing ( and yes, he'd claim that with just ONE damned GOP vote ) and it hangs it all on the Dems, forever!
Good post and hell yes, you just nailed the damned troll !
This is a RIGHT OF CENTER site, as are ALL of Mr.Breitbart's.
You are a troll and a disruptor. All you ever post is lefty drivel, that wastes bandwidth. You continually impugn and harass other posters and now you're trying to cl,aim "victimhood". I don't know which is more pathetic, your previous claim to being a "conservative" or this victim card.
This OBamaCare crap forces people to pay for other people's abortions. You go to jail if you don't buy health care. Because of all of the DEALS Congress Critters got, people from the states that didn't get those deals, are going to have to pay for those people's real debt to the nation.
Nobody is forced to pay for other people's car insurance, yet everyone who has a car has to have insurance. Why aren't you advocating that the government pays for ( THAT MEANS PEOPLE; THE GOVERNMENT DOESN'T HAVE MONEY, EXCEPT FOR WHAT THE PEOPLE HAVE TO FORK OVER TO IT ) for everyone's car insurance?
You're an idiot; an idiot with Socialistic views.
This administration is a POISON to our country and American citizens. Anyone who thinks that it's going to offer great (free) healthcare is either dellusional or extremely uninformed (to put it mildly). We MUST kick these traitors out starting in 2010. Stay informed and DO NOT VOTE for any demoncrats. Look to the CONSERVATIVES and CONSERVATIVE Republicans. Stay focused. If this monstrosity of an UNCONSTITUTIONAL bill passes we can look forward to the 2010 elections to shoot so many holes in this health care crap of a bill that it will look like swiss cheese.
"If we can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people, under the pretence of taking care of them, they must become happy. "

"I think we have more machinery of government than is necessary, too many parasites living on the labor of the industrious."

We Must Never Give Up, Never Surrender!
Brilliantly done. I'd laugh if I weren't already crying over what the Demofiends are doing to our country and our liberties.
I'm pretty sure the world extends beyond the limits of the comments section on biggov….you need to get out more.
Not a fan of Keith Olbman. Or whoever you meant.
As much as you.
Then why do you care?
Now, there's the right attitude!
Finally!
The historical record means everything.
Please show me the data for the tax increases that resulted from the last time the US provided health care for everyone. Cause, if the data proves that taxes will increase, then I'm against it!
Go ahead, I'll wait.
Why be so pessimistic?
No. You answered your question.
You have carefully avoided mine.
Why are you so scared to address it?
Dude, we pay Medicare taxes in every pay check. 1.45% on all earnings. Do you even have a job?
Well, just pretend the Health Care legislation was for Iraqis. You'd be criticizing the Democrats for spending not nearly enough money necessary and calling them "terrorist sympathizers".
You make a good point.
Fool
So, you are arguing that car insurance and health insurance are the same?
Well, then why do you have a problem with the going to jail part? If you get into an accident w/o car insurance you can go to jail. Why not the same for health insurance?
Are you schizophrenic?
As for the second part of your screed:
Not everyone has cars. Everyone has health.
You have any attribution for that quote?
How long have you been a racist?
7 cents on the dollar for security and peace of mind?
And you are against this?????
Is Medicare provided to EVERYONE. In other words, is everyone on Medicare right now?
No.
So, I ask again:
Please show me the data for the tax increases that resulted from the last time the US provided health care for everyone.
Thought you were the history buff. Pretending that Medicare is the same as providing coverage to everyone is revisionist history.
Yes.
I work in the health care industry.
You're purposefully being obtuse.
Yes, everyone has "health". Everyone also needs to wear clothes, eat food, and have a place to live. By your argument, the government should take care of all of those things for everyone.
If one doesn't have car insurance and not everyone does, the ONLY time a car driving person will go to jail for that ( which they often do NOT do ), is when there is an accident.
I'm far from being "schizophrenic"; however, you are clinically INSANE.
When did I claim victim hood?
How do I harass others? Seems you are the one chasing me around this message board. I believe any comment I have directed at you has come AFTER you have addressed me in disparaging terms.
Frankly, being a 'new-era' conservative shouldn't be this hard. We really are on the same side.
You are just too dumb to realize it.
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww…………….now you're calling me a "stalker"? That's just too, too funny for words ! I often, though not always, reply to your inane posts, WHEN I SEE THEM. I don't "follow you around".
The post Iam now replying to, you infedr that you are a "victim";l this timed, of me. LOL
We are NOT "on the same side"; not at all! All of your posts show that you are a faaaaaaaaaaaaaaar lefty and there's not a thing "conservative" in any of your posts here; "new-ear" orf otherwise. And what the bleeding hell is a "new-era conservative" anyway; a "progressive" who cla=ims to be a CONSERVATIVE, whilst spouting lefty talking points?
My daughter has a pre-existing condition and we purchased health care. It's called Blue Cross Blue Shield. learn the facts bub.
It is supplied to EVERYONE when they get to certain age. You are losing the argument so now you are splitting hairs. Big Gov't programs always lead to tax increases. ALWAYS.
7% for Medicare and Social Security on top of 6% for State taxes 3% city taxes and 35% Federal taxes. That equals 51% taxes and we haven't even started with this Health care marlarky…
In Europe, a national Health tax is anywhere from 4 to 12 % ADDED onto all the other taxes. it isn't free and everyone–who works–will pay for it.
Get a job and then we'll talk.
Thought maybe a bridge builder.
Tell that to one lone Obamacare supporter Dave…LOL!
Haven't you listening to your friend Loser Harry Reid? This bill is not healthcare but bill of compromise with lots of pork on it for CN, MA to Nebraska.
Laughable.
Ha Ha.
Medieval is when only the rich get to see a doctor.
As it is now.
Stealing health care? Stealing liberty!
Actually, that's your argument.
Mine was simply that we need affordable health care for everyone.
Actually, if you get pulled for any sort of violation and you don't have insurance you can get fined.
Actually, that's your argument.
Mine was simply that we need affordable health care for everyone.
Actually, if you get pulled for any sort of violation and you don't have insurance you can get fined.
Friend, I pay 12K a year in property taxes. And I pay higher federal taxes than you do. Please, don't pretend I don't work and make a good living.
What taxes is this bill raising? Do tell.
You just proved my point, it doesn't cover everyone all the time.
Splitting hairs? Christ, that is why you are so against the bill. You are splitting hairs over minor details.
That stuff was all forced because the GOP wouldn't get on board.
Blame the GOP for anything that isn't good in the bill.
DId they jack up the prices?
And, I guess since your daughter got it; that means no one gets turned down?
Good one.
But, see what happens when you think.
You think wrong.
Lying again?
Face facts………..nobody here likes any of your posts, don't agree with you, and you cheered on this abomination, now passing throw both Houses of Congress. ObamaCare is NOT "affordable health care" in the least and by no stretch of anyone's imagination.
If you get pulled over, the police do NOT automatically ask to see that you have proof of car insurance.
Pointing out that you chase me around on here is playing the victim's role? Good one.
Naw.
If I was playing a victim, I'd say something along the lines of:
"You are making me dumber for having read your post. I am on the receiving end of intellectual assault. "
I know that your gurus, the BeckBaughs, love to claim that liberals claim victim hood; so, it's easy to understand that anyone YOU label as a liberal (even tho I am a Conservative) you naturally also apply any talking points you have memorized.
Please, understand that pointing out you are a clown, is not me claiming to be a victim, ok?
Or, get a friend to explain it if you can't comprehend on your own.
I'm not a victim of anything.
Well, except maybe 8 years of GWB…but that's a story for another day.
Don't wanna get to far ahead of ya.
"And what the bleeding hell is a "new-era conservative" anyway; a "progressive" who claims to be a CONSERVATIVE, whilst spouting lefty talking points?"
Again, if wanting an improved health system is a lefty talking point…then I am guilty as charged.
As is virtually every GOP congressmember who has said we need to improve the system.
Guess they are liberals, too?

Despite a last-minute weekend deal that put the Senate on the brink of passing health care reform this week, liberal and moderate Democrats remain on a collision course over the bill, as both sides dug in Sunday for the next phase of negotiations.
President Barack Obama’s liberal base and powerful union leaders once hoped the expected House-Senate conference would partly undo a year of retreats and compromises, with Obama weighing in to nudge the moderate Senate bill to the left.
But the titanic struggle to lock in Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) as the 60th senator for the first key test vote early Monday morning has changed all that. The need to hold Nelson and other moderates in line means major changes on the public option, abortion, taxes, Medicare and Medicaid are unlikely — and that the Senate’s vision of health reform is likely to prevail over the House’s in the final talks.
“It is very clear that the bill — the final bill — to pass in the United States Senate is going to have to be very close to the bill that has been negotiated here,” Sen. Kent Conrad (D-N.D.) said on “Fox News Sunday.” “Otherwise, you will not get 60 votes in the United States Senate.”
Nelson, who received assurances of a “limited conference” to secure his vote for the Senate bill, has already laid down at least two deal breakers in the House bill that he can’t support: the inclusion of a government insurance plan and an income tax increase on wealthy individuals.
“That would break it,” Nelson said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
House Democrats acknowledge that they will be limited in how far they can tweak the Senate compromise. But House leadership also knows that its rank and file need to force some changes, however small, before they will accept the final package — as a face-saving measure to be able to swallow late changes to the bill in the Senate, most notably the decision to eliminate a public option.
Oh poor baby, pleased go get help for that paranoia.
Want to talk about "TALKING POINTS" ? That's all you post and they're all far lefty ones!
I have no "gurus"; unlike you.
Hurling childish, baseless insults at me, may make you feel better about yourself, but doesn't make what you call me, or others,so.
You're just here to disrupt.
You're always looking for a fight, which when you get into, you always lose.
If you're a "conservative" anything, you have yet to prove it.
Every single GOP Congress Critter voted AGAINST this abomination that is going round and round through Congress………………………UNLIKE YOU !
I lived in a national health system for ten years. And you?
I do wonder since you weren't aware that Social Security and Medicare both came out of our paychecks.
Darling, I already pointed out in detail that every time we implemented an expanded benefit in this country we were hit by taxes. This time won't be any different.
Yes but EVERYONE PAYS THE TAX!!!
OMG, please…you are a bore.
Exactly. So a person with a PRE-EXISTING condition CAN already get insurance. Get how that works?
No the insurance wasn't any higher that any other family of four…
What would the premiums be if you were privately insured?
You are essentially the recipient of a subsidy, yet you don't want others to get it?
Maybe it's not mentioned much because it is a manufactured straw-man designed to scare people….and the wise Reps in DC and the media aren't going to be sucked into this nonsense?
I agree.
The concerns of those that want to deny health care to a huge number of American's ARE over simplistic.
Not sure about your bigotry comment, tho. Advocating for health care for everyone makes me a bigot?
Amen.
Huh? We I object to paying Socials Security but don't have a choice especially since it will most likely be bankrupt by the time i get to collect. BTW, I wasn't even born when it was passed. i am one of those children and grandchildren the people against the Health Care bill are talking about.
I am being forced to pay 6.2% of everything I make for a system i won't be able to take advantage of.
6.2% + 1.45% = 7.77% of everything I make for Social Security + Medicare. Get it? Taxes for Big Gov't. that doesn't work.
That's a flat out lie.
You guys are all flustered about so called 'pre-existing' conditions being covered in the new bill.
Obviously, these folks couldn't get insurance before.
So, clearly, someone is DENIED coverage.
Liar.
are you aware that one of the provisions in the health bill states that the health legislation CANNOT EVER be amended or repealed by future congress? saw jim demint on the senate floor on c-span last night – he boxed in the senate president with senate rules that were broken and ignored to pass this commie bill and was treated as a lesser life form. If anyone knows how to get c-span clips this one will plainly show the arrogance and outright lies going on in the senate – all this is a matter of record -WHERE THE HELL IS THE MEDIA???!!!!
No I wouldn't.

How can you sleep at night….wrapped tight in a blanket of bigotry?"
By showing you that an individual can AQUIRE a disease such as HIV/AIDS I have irrefutely presented you with a case that demonstrates that a disease can be pre-existing according to you and your Progressive friends such as but not limited to: Turner’s Syndrome, Trisomy X, gigantism, XXY Syndrome, Klinefelter’s Syndrome, Cri-du-chat, Down Syndrome, Sickle Cell Anemia, and cancer. These are all genetic mutations built into the humans DNA. These mutations occurred inside of the embryo. According to you and progressives existence does not occur until after birth. Because this is the stance that you and the progressives take, that would mean that these genetic mutations of the DNA are classified as pre-existing. Anything such as HIV/AIDS that is an acquired disease/condition can only be obtained after birth and when you and your Progressive friends believe that existence begins. Yes, even if the mother has HIV/AIDS, that condition is not passed onto the child until after the fetus exists the mother. During that transition is when the now existing person acquires the disease post existence according to you and your Progressive friends. Isn't it funny how a person such as yourself who considers that they are mentally superior to others can't even recall what they have stated? Liars often forget what they have previously said because what they have created is not the truth. Tell enough lies and you will find yourself unable to recall what you have said. Is that what happened to you? Am I going to fast for you? Can you keep up? Why don’t you take a couple of mental CIALIS pills. Don’t seek immediate medical attention if you experience a mental erection for 4 or more hours, that just means the pills are working. Have a nice day!
Each and everyone who vote for this fiasco should be held personally accountable.
How in the world of ethics and morals do the Dems give sweetheart deals for your supporters and screw the opposition. The rule of law RIP, lock and load it's a new wild west coming.

The most christian thing to do is just let people die since they don't have any insurance. Think about it, in our free society, by god people are free to buy and sell at their leisure. If they're too stupid, first of all, not to have faith in Jesus, and secondly, to also not have insurance: they deserve what's coming to them. Pre-existing conditions=more money for anyone smart enough to be with health insurance executives. Money is the root of all good"-Ayn Rand. "Chevy>Ford"-holy libertarian

It will pass. I have lost all hope somebody in the democratic party will do the right thing. But , we can still pray.
