Celebrities Need Health Care Help Too! (Just Not In the Way You Think)
by Derek HunterFor those who watch MSNBC regularly and aren’t related to any of the hosts–and I mean both of you–you are familiar with the Will Ferrell Funny or Die video that came out a few weeks ago on health care. I don’t want to embed it, but it was essentially multi-millionaires sarcastically talking about other multi-millionaires because they didn’t like how they made their money. Seems it’s OK to make hundreds of millions of dollars speaking the words other people wrote on camera, but running a company that pays for other people’s health care should be something that only earns one just enough to get by.
That’s not to say that health insurance is perfect; some do some shady things and some people get hurt, but just because liberals find the worst case scenario and present them as the norm doesn’t make it so. The vast majority of Americans are satisfied with their health coverage. They aren’t masochists who like being screwed over when the chips are down; they get what they need when they need it.

And that’s not to say Will Ferrell doesn’t deserve the money he makes either, though I’m fairly certain he didn’t return any of the millions he was paid for Bewitched when it became the Ishtar of 2005.
If, as the Funny or Die video seems to imply, someone is to be paid based upon their contributions to society, health insurance executives do deserve to make a lot of money. Certainly they deserve to make more than someone who gets paid $20 million for 1-3 months worth of work, especially when the result of that work is something like Land of the Lost.
But that’s neither here nor there.
I don’t resent the money anyone makes because I know it’s not a zero-sum game. Just because someone earns more than I do doesn’t mean I’m making less.
But Ferrell and others from the pampered class felt the need to weigh in on the health care debate, perhaps because, and I’m just speculating here, they thought they could get an NEA grant if they did. Whatever the reason, they brought as much knowledge and expertise to the table as, well, the table had, before they set anything down on it.
To illustrate this point (seriously, who is going to consult ANYONE in that video on matters of public policy?), I found this video pointing out the absurdity of the FoD piece.
While the MSNBC crowd won’t understand the irony or get the humor of taking policy advice from people who list “Monologs for Student Actors” as one of their favorite books, I hope the rest of you do.
PS – I finally got around to watching the Ed Show on MSNBC the other day and it took me three full segments before I realized Wilbur wasn’t coming because it wasn’t a remake of Mr. Ed.

I want a cap put on bonuses paid to directors, producers, actors on any government funded project. Salary caps are in order, too.
Will Ferrell can kiss my WFA. I'm so worried that the SUPERIOR medical care I've gotten won't be available in the future to my kids, grandkids and unborn great-grandkids.
Liberals believe that for someone to get a larger piece of the pie, someone else must get a smaller piece. Conservatives believe you need to make a larger pie.

As the apparatchiks weave their webs, it’s kind of funny that the self-absorbed actor class believes it will not be snared in the web of the coming egalitarian utopia. If any of these witless thespians believe somehow they’ll escape the workers paradise “taxes” a quick perusal of other “utopia’s around the world would be instructive.
Those who this video targets actually find Will Ferrell funny. Why would these same people be expected to see the irony in the video when they don't even know what irony is? This video really is a perfect statement of the substance behind the entire nationalized health care movement; there is no substance in either. The sad part is that there are those who will accept these elites as experts without realizing that the celebrities are insulting the intelligence of the very people they are appealling to.
US government should not fund subsidize producers to pay their over-paid actors and actress. Equal work and equal pay. A lightman, extras and production people works as hard as everybody else. Put a salary cap to these non-talent artists. A good place to test socialism should be Hollywood.
I want what they have. The over paid actors don't deserve all that money. How about we have a march on Will Ferrell's house. We can take what we think is ours. That's only fair. How dare he have more than what we have. I need a new car. I bet Will has more than one. Why would you need more than one car? Jay Leno has a whole bunch of cars let's go get what's ours. MARXIST=DEMOCRATS=TERRORIST All the same Ask the IDIOT Will Farrell.
You know — if the liberal actors & musicians "shared their wealth with the homeless and uninsured", they would be "DOING THEIR PATRIOTIC DUTY" and "actually doing something worthwhile".
It's not FAIR that they make MILLIONS FROM A CAPITALIST ECONOMY — their should be a cap of $500,000.
It's not FAIR that they own MILLION DOLLAR HOMES — they need to help the homeless .
It's not FAIR that they SPEND THOUSANDS OF $$$$ ON THEMSELVES (BOTOX, SPAS, PLASTIC SURGERY, MANICURES, PEDICURES, CLOTHING, FANCY RESTAURANTS, etc.) — when so many can't afford health care.
It's not FAIR that they SPEND THOUSANDS OF $$$$ VACATIONING ALL OVER THE WORLD —
most Americans can't afford to leave their state.
It's not FAIR that they SPEND THOUSANDS OF $$$$ ON VEHICLES — you only need one.
AHHHHHH!! Mr. Ferrell, can you now do a video on the "ARTSY COMMUNITY????? I didn't think so!!

I am curious, why doesn't Obama's Czar for Pay and Compensation review the monies paid to these "stars"? It is excessive. If the Czar is going to review and regulate the money paid to private industry, then he needs to regulate Bolly-wood and the sports world as well.
Take the Whole Foods approach: The highest paid employee's salary is capped at 14x the lowest paid employee's salary. If the upper echelon wants more money, the bottom has to get paid more, too.
Perfect! I love it!
So Susan Sarandon, Tim Robbins, Sean Penn and Will Ferrell make a very good living by pretending to be other people. What gives these pretenders any special influence to shape government policy, other than star-struck politicians who want to hang out with these losers. I always question when a celebrity, usually actors or actresses testfiies before congress for the issue de jour. LIke why do we allow this? These people pretend to be someone else, what value to they really add to society?
What I find interesting is how many young actors or actresses have volunteered to defend their country after we were attacked on 9/11. How many took a sabbatical like Clark Gable, or Jimmy Stewart did during World War II in order to defend our freedom? That would be ZERO. No significant actor/actress have enlisted in the Armed Services to defend our country. The only celebrity who enlisted was football player Pat Tilman, and he actually worked for a living unlike the pretender leeches who are actors and actresses. Is anybody really surprised?
Kudos to Breitbart for an excellent Website!!
The next time I do get sick, I will give Will Ferrell a call. I'm sure he wouldn't mind helping out for the common good. I could then die laughing.
You did forget about Bruce Willis. He did attempt to enlist, but was denied because of his age.
I did not know about Bruce Willis, but certainly not surprised. Thanks for letting us know that one Hollywood actor attempted to enlist. If anyone can advise of any other actor who enlisted please let me know.

Hey, come on! Don't you realize these people are "artists"? That fact alone entitles them to more "compensation". They are just displaying their sensitivity and compassion for us common folk. You do know that all the animals are equal, it's just that the pigs are more equal others.
I am just finishing the biography on John Adams. His observation that the French revolution with emphasis on "equality" could only end in dictatorship was true then and is true now. The "equality" movement that has been building since the 1950's can only end in dictatorship. Facts are stubborn things.
I live in Canada. In a city of over 1 million people. It is a 6-8 month wait for me to see my doctor for a regular physical ckeckup. Does Will Feral & Co. realize that the socialized health care that they are so energetically promoting includes them also?
Hey Will – no more calling up your "personal physician" when you have a tummy ache, (or heaven forbid, something more serious). Make an appointment and hope for a January/February consultation with a doctor. Not "your doctor" either. It'll be whichever doctor is behind the counter when your number is called.
It's unbelievable to me that so many of you Americans don't understand or appreciate what you have, and what you can build on. Just for kicks, call up a doctor's office in any major Canadian city and see how long it will take for an appointment as a new patient. You will then see the reality of Universal Health Care.
I wonder if anyone involved in the production of this video was on the call with NEA?
Yes, the same one that Valerie Jarret was NOT on, but involved with the creation of.
Where are the credits? Don't they all want their names known?
All government run projects should have mandates when the tax payers money is involved.
You want to work for the government, fine… but you're not going to get rich on the tax-payers dime.
You are also going to have 1 option for health care, and it's gonna suck.
Work in the PRIVATE sector, and you can make all the money you want!
Whatever the market will bear.
Now how is that for an incentive to NOT work for the government?
The best way to hurt these people is not capping their pay. Let the market deal with them and if you can not stand for them to be paid, then do not pay for their entertainment services. Talk to your family and like-minded neighbors as well. Boycotts don't seem to work, always lots of hyperbole and shouting by a few… As we Americans all better collect our thoughts on these matters, we can make the Hollywood establishment go away without any shouting or a single news report. DEPRIVE THEM FROM ACCESS TO YOUR WALLET!!
A metaphor I like to use is a candle. Unlike a pie, a candle can light an infinate number of other candles without diminishing it's own flame.
Thhese folks think irony is what the maid does with their shirts. Corny I know, but funny nonetheless.
I just had a discussion about the Marxist "equal work for equal pay" argument.
The problem is that "hard work" doesn't mean high pay. What causes high pay is "value" and "scarcity".
I can bust my butt flipping burgers that sell for $1 each. Those individual burgers aren't especially valuable, and I'm easily replaceable as a cook, so I don't have scarcity … thus I get paid little.
If I'm a doctor, an executive, a celebrity, etc; I'm making my employer far more money with my goods and services than the cook, thus my work has more value. In addition, my education, experience, etc may make someone with my skills scarcer, requiring a higher paycheck to retain my services. A Doctor has to go through years of school, and assumes personal risk with every patient.
Nice Animal Farm reference. Very appropriate to use pigs.
Not so fast my Cannuck friend, unions do not count in the healthcare plan, and I have a feeling SAG is on that exempt union list. They get to keep their healthcare. Its the nobody gen pop that get the shoddy healthcare.
Here's another parody of the Will Ferrell PSA you might enjoy (it's short): http://optoons.blogspot.com/2009/09/celebrities-r...
Love this video! And btw, I agree with Gary K, Will Ferrell is not funny ,never has been funny and never will be funny (except when he is playing a cheerleader on SNL – that was kind of funny).
I guess pretending to be the liberal version of George Bush qualifies Ferrell to make uninformed sneering videos about issues Americans care about. What does he care – it won't effect him, right? Artists live by their own standards, right? Why, in their world, anal rape of a 13 year old girl is the privilege of the auteur. Celebrities – practice what you preach and give away 95% of your income to the underprivileged. Start with your own broke State.
your prophetic words don't really say anything. you could be saying that conservatives prosper on the creation of inflation .. because that's what it does: inflate cost of goods and services, and general standards of life.
So while you might be able to argue that the pie is bigger rather than squeezing money out of the hands of others directly, by giving them smaller portions of pie … but it's 6 and 1/2 dozen the other … more people having more money from a larger pool just means that others' original money is now worth less. it's the same thing.
analogy fail.
Dear Will.
You will not see any of my money for your “work”.
MSNBC is full of liars, starting with Rachel Madox.
Why would anyone seriously listen to these people? They do NOT live in reality. Their entire lives are full of make believe and rear kissing syncophants. They have NOTHING in common with you and me. Any endorsement by a celebrity is an automatic "no" for me. Do they not see that if everything goes as the gov't plans, "their" millions will become "our" thousands?
Lemmings, all of them.
and if i were to believe your 'theory', i would have to believe that the only thing that has led people to be better off is by the systematic growing of 'the pie'
here's another one — the first half of which conservatives think is some righteous and meaningful slam (it's not, can't get offended by something untrue haha)
liberals want government to do everything for them, whereas conservatives want monopolies to do everything for them
We pay so much to our doctors, but not all of it goes into their pockets! It boggles the mind that few people seem to realize this (I am not meaning you in that statement.
In a general practice, doctors pay their own nurses from that money, the receptionist, billing/filing clerks, cleaning crew, insurance, advertising, they have small labs and x-ray facilities in some offices. There are so many things coming from the fees that are charged that are so easily overlooked! I am not saying that some fees are exhorbitant and even restrictive, but in general, what is paid is more thatn fair when everthing is considered.
conservatives want to do it for themselves. obviously capitalism does it best! consider the leaps and bounds that our young nation has made, especially in comparison to others.
and ahhh, freedom. that is the best reason for capitalism. freedom to try, to fail to try again. Sweet freedom, that is my hope for my children.
: )
capitalism != freedom
capitalism !(->) freedom
freedom !(->) capitalism
Remember the anti-smoking campaign? Remember the quest to to slam down Camel Joe and it's impact on our youth? Does anyone know how many people die each year from smoking related illnesses? 400,000? 500,000 per year?
And how many died in the Iraq War? US casualties number under 5000 and roughly 30,000 injured?
And Sean Penn had the audacity to go to Cannes and glamorize smoking for the popular media and for all our impressionable youngsters. I'm not going to rationalize the Iraq War. But the War On Smoking? What imbecile would want their child hooked on nicotine?
Sean….keep smoking buddy. Keep smoking! The sooner you take your last drag the better for society.
I find it extremely ironic that stars make their money from capitalistic movies and from exporting those movies to overseas markets, and they spend their time complaining about capitalism exploiting overseas workers.
That certainly would have been a much more ironic and humorous video.
Excellent! I have been thinking the same thing for a while now. We need food, clothing & shelter. We DON'T NEED "entertainment".
I take issue with the idea that people who play games for money "work for a living" any more than people who play make believe for money "work for a living", but I agree with the sentiment. The level of patriotism, in general, was higher in those days.
It's also worth mentioning that, had she not been on a tour to raise war bonds, Carole Lombard would not have died at such an early age. And Marlene Dietrich snuck onto the front lines during the war to entertain troops even though she was declared an enemy of the Nazis for being German and supporting the US.
Ferrell has pubic hair all the way to his neck.
Cover it up!
What's MSNBC ? I was going to say we should boycott ABC news, CBS news, NBC news, MSNBC, and CNN. Then I came to my senses and realized we don't watch them anyway. They are all a waste of spectrum.
Will Ferrell Is an idiot, I don't think he can act nor is he funny. He is like so many of the Hollywood crowd that think their "stuff" doesn't stink.
[...] Dereck Hunter wrote an article on Big Government today that pointed out something I overlooked. Why in the world would these celebs feel they are qualified to give the public advice? Ok, the question of “why” may not have been the only thing I overlooked , so go to Dereck’s article here >> Celebrities Need Health Care Help Too! (Just Not In The Way You Think) [...]
You are only good as your last picture in Hollywood. You too, may find yourself on the receiving end of bad health care one day. You can just stuff your face with plastic so much until no one wants you in a picture anymore. Most of you are so drugged up, buying everything in sight, that you are not planning on ever being one of the "little" guys but it happens every day. Stars can have complete falls from grace and your day is coming. Then let's hear what a great group of people the Democrats are to give you such a great health plan. You break it, you buy it.
I like each of those actors, and that is all they are.
They are acting like they know what they are talking about.
that was kind of the opposite of funny.
It's almost like they don't entirely understand what they are talking about.
Creepy, eh?
I hate to say this, but…he just lost my money too.
If I were to believe your "therory" I would have to believe people are no better off today than they were two hundred years ago. When there was no middle class. I stand by mine.
Here's a great video response to the original video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNl3KcFN2ZM
So, the newest bill says that Will Farrell and all those people in Hollywood who know what is best for me are going to pay for my health care? It is hard to keep up.

Left off your list of 'waste of spectrum' is that paragon of truth, virtue and diversity– faux, oh, I mean fOx and their affiliates. An outlet for unbiased journalism and reporting that was ever created. Confucius say: Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance.
If everyone is so eager to endorse capitalism, where was your ardent defense of those neon gods, the oil company execs, when they were being grilled on the hill during idiot bush's administration. Remember those wonderful days when gas was $3.00 a gallon and climbing?? The population at large was aghast in indignation that Exxon and their ilk was garnering billions in quarterly profits, while the average citizen suffered. It was shoved down our throats as CAPITALISM!!! Just cannot recall your unrelenting support and advocacy of those deserving stalwarts.

Ishtar? Isn’t that just a LITTLE harsh? After all, Hoffman and Beatty

Excellent articles. I sometimes find it hard coming up with articles for my website but you did a great job here.
some of them really need to do something with their body!
You people are fucking clueless. You dont realize that these actors only make around 30% of what is in their contracts. You stupid fucking morons have no idea how the entertainment industry works, but you want to bitch about it. None of you work half as hard as these people. None of you. Try understanding the business before you talk shit about it because you have no fucking clue what they pay in union dues, their agents, their managers, entertainment lawyers, publicists, etc. When you have to own your own company the way they have to run their lives, then you can talk, but you'll never have that.
Thanks for taking the time to share this, I feel strongly about it and love reading more on this topic. If possible, as you gain knowledge, would you mind updating your blog with more information? It is extremely helpful for me.
