Tea Party Mandate: Take Back The Party!
by Doug HoffmanCongressional Candidate, and Big Government Contributor, Doug Hoffman took to the New York Post today:

At this time, three months ago, I was wrestling with a decision. A decision as to whether or not to run in a special election to fill the seat vacated by the new secretary of the Army, John McHugh. If you had told me 90 days later I would be penning an op-ed piece for the New York Post, I would have laughed in disbelief. I would have laughed even louder had you told me that I would be receiving endorsement and support from political leaders like Fred Thompson, former Majority Leader Dick Armey, or Sarah Palin. Or appearing on broadcast media with national audiences, as their hosts peppered me with questions about the future of the GOP and our nation.
You see I’m not a professional politician; I’ve never sought elected office. I grew up poor in Saranac Lake, in the heart of the Adirondacks. My siblings and I were raised in a single-parent household by our mother. We worked to help her pay the mortgage. But, like so many others in this great land, I worked hard, got a good education, did a six-year stint in the military, married, landed a good job with a “big eight” accounting firm and started living the American dream.
It’s funny what can happen in America, when you are able to dream and have the courage to follow your dreams. At 27 I was hired as controller of the organizing committee for the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid. Three years later I bought the accounting firm that employed my mother. Now I have six offices spread across the northern reaches of New York and a dozen other small businesses in the Adirondacks that employ my wife, children and hopefully someday, my grandchildren. I am living the American Dream.
The reason I’m running for office is to ensure that others share the same opportunities.
Sadly, that dream is quickly becoming a nightmare. Unemployment grows, our economy is in crisis, and our elected officials seem out of touch with reality. Government in Albany is a disgrace; it’s the most dysfunctional in the nation. New York has six statewide elected officials, only two of them have been elected by the people. Three of the remaining four hold office as a result of the scandals, sexual and financial, that forced a governor and a comptroller to resign.

I sent a donation directly to Hoffman, and will never donate to the RNC again. Newt and Steele got this one oh so wrong. Make no mistake, Newt and Steele, this race is setting the tone for the future of the Conservative Party. I hope you are not left behind, but, your current actions seem to give us credence to say, "don't let the door hit ya on the way out".
"WHAT UP!"
Exactly. You rest my case.
Hold your ground Sybill, don't give an inch. Giving ground and being complacent is what has gotten US into this mess. You are correct in your stance. Newt has lost touch. He should exit stage left. The only difference between Newt and Jessie Jackson, is color. Newt makes his living off "his people" just like Jessie makes his living off "his people". They pander to their respective bases.
If the Government really wanted to do US a service, they would fund an island, where ALL those clowns, of every stripe would be sent to, never to been seen or heard from again. Newt and Jessie could play pinnochle with Jimmah Carter and Pat Buchanon.
Nope… no RNC for me. I am even changing my voter's reg to NPA (or independent.) This they will see… when there is a mass exodus of voters from party rolls… it will ruffle the feathers.
You must now EARN my vote… no more taking it for granted. That is why we had that lousy choice of John McLame!
I am not buying the "wasted vote" argument anymore. If we lose to either party, they are destined for the same place anyway. I wuold rather have a Democratic win, that way, the inevitable happens far quicker, since character does not exist in that party, at all!
I say back the values or split the party. We tried the moderate tactics and the Democrats got in anyway.
I disagree with Hoffman, New York is not the worst, California is. New York is a close second though. I hope he wins though because we need solid people in office, not lawyers or career politicians. We elect them to do a job and not to screw us blind. I want people we have not heard of yet. Ordinary kitchen table kind of people who look you in the eye, tell you what they believe and do what they say. No more, no less.
While our Freedoms are being taken away, spending goes into the stratosphere, our Constitution is being blow-torched and our Sovereignty being bastardized–What Up!
And this with a blueprint for success: Reagan Conservatism.
Just shameful
by the way, I know a lot of "conservative" democrats in PA
My only word of caution is on your voter's registration. In some states, if you register as Independent, you cannot vote for a candidate that is truly Conservative, running in a Republican primary. We need to send the RNC a message, but, not one that cuts off our nose to spite our face.
As others have noted, the thing to do in other places is to get onto the local precinct committees and help find and support conservative candidates. If you can't find conservative candidates, throw your hat in the ring. And if the party won't listen, go to goooh.com, the Conservative Party or Libertarians or any other group that fits and start running.
I sent my $ to Doug. Godspeed, Doug.
Maybe YOU are the very one that can do that. Are YOU a kitchen table kind of person that will do what they say? If so, go DO IT! Hoffman is an accountant, a 9 /12'er, with no political experience whatsoever. If not YOU, maybe a local with the same gumption as Hoffman. Get involved.
I don't support 3rd party candidates waste of time.
"It’s a fight for the heart and soul of the Republican Party. It’s a fight for fiscal responsibility and the return of common sense to those who govern us."
But I will always support the heart of America. Thank you Doug Hoffman for taking on this fight.
I support Hoffman. That was a fine piece of penmanship, sir.
That's the best thing you can do with how the RNC is these days. Make your donation directly to the candidate of your choice. That way at least you know your money is going to who you want it to go to, not some RINO that the top dogs at the RNC are salivating over.
I feel your frustration. Our vision has been jettisoned. But, we are a part of those 1,000,000 that gathered in DC on 9/12. Electing (R)'s for the sake of electing (R)'s is over. I am proud, and heartened that we are taking a stand.
You are correct about that. In KS independents cannot vote in the primaries. But this is another sham, as I know many people change their registration just to vote in the primary against the candidate they want to defeat. I know liberals who registered as republicans to slant the election.
Give em HELL Doug.
I can't think like a Liberal, so I will remember that tactic. I will resort to using their tactics, much like the Alinsky rules, to play them at their own game.
I'm a little confused about how Hoffman became involved. According to the comments in the article, he doesn't live in the district, so why is he running for the office there? How did he come to that decision? I don't like the decision the RNC made there, but I hope this guy is being sincere about why he's doing this.
The most effective strategy is to move the GOP rightward, rather than trying to create a third party. By all means, donate directly to the (more) conservative candidate. But washing your hands of the only one of the two major parties that can plausibly control either Congress or the White House is madness. Return the GOP to conservatism one primary at a time. Conservatives staying home in 2006 and 2008 are what delivered the Mediacrat mess we now face.
GOP officials: We won't abandon Dede
The National Republican Congressional Committee remains committed to embattled GOP nominee Dede Scozzafava in the upstate New York House special election, even as many of the party's top names throw their support to Conservative Party nominee Doug Hoffman.
Two party officials tell POLITICO that the NRCC will continue to air TV ads propping up Scozzafava in the days leading up to the Nov. 3 contest and plans to keep up a near relentless barrage of press releases slamming Hoffman.
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1009/28699.h...
Go get 'em, Hoffman!
And when you arrive, get a new broom and sweep the NY GOP office clean…get a little air and sunshine in there…
I got even money that the NY GOP has skeletons in the closet they would prefer stay in there…
Mr. Hoffman, I never thought I'd count a CPA among my heroes, but less likely things have happened – for all I rail against lawyers, my manager is… a probate lawyer. LOL! – so, "Go, you!"
Now, if we could only convince more fine, upstanding American citizens who aren't and never expected to be in politics to run for office. The optimist in me knows there are MILLIONS MORE like you out there. If ever there was a time for them to step up to the plate and swing for the fences, now is it.
BTW: I laughed out loud and shouted when you got the Palin endorsement. I can't say exactly what I shouted, but it was the first letter in the, "Brooklyn Alphabet." Way. to. go. DUDE.
Thanks, sybill.
You're right about the progressive r's–their days are over.
Wouldn't it be nice if parties that have control and are voted out would learn a lesson and not repeat the same mistakes when they get back in? Wouldn't it be nice if people started holding ALL politicians accountable and not allowing the standard, HE DID IT FIRST or TOO excuse to stand? Obama promised "change" and so far the transparency he promised not only hasn't happened, but we have heard that it is all right that he broke his promise, because the Republicans made deals in backrooms as well. The MSM should force Obama to explain why he thinks it is all right for him to break his promises to the people.
I can honestly see the Democrat strategist encouraging that exact sentiment. They figure if they can divide the Republican party they actually might have a chance in 2010.
Remember: Divide is the mantra of the Alinsky model.
"You see I’m not a professional politician"
This is exactly why you, and more like you, are so desperately needed in Washington.

Yes, yes, yes, yes!!!!
I do have to think of my position now as being an Independent, and of course would vote for someone like Mr Doug Hoffman. I don't think the DNC will help fund Doug's campaign, anyhow we all have to help him financially.
Our contributions are our "bullets".
I compare all issues with a 3rd party platform, The Constitution Party as it is biblically based for the most part.
http://www.constitutionparty.com (maybe it's .org, I'll have to check this out later)
In WI, we have a 3rd party candidate running for the 2010 Senate Race, that is Mr Robert Taylor.
http://www.robtaylorforsenate.com WI Constitution Party is at http://www.cpow.org
We've been praying the S.C.A.B.s out since mid-September, the start of the Jewish New Year. Primarily we use The Soldier's Prayer of King David, Psalms: Ch 91.
THANK YOU MR HOFFMAN!
Mr. "Hoffman" goes to Washington.
its a small start, but its a snowball going down a very big mountain
good luck Mr Hoffman
we may not gain big ground in 2010 but we will make a very big statement that the RNC cannot ignore if we just stick to our GUNS. don't let up, don't back down!
agreed
Likewise, I donated $ to Hoffman on Friday! I can't wait for the NRCC to call for another donation and I will tell them I sent it direct! Good luck!
No, we do not need to split the party – we just ned to make sure the right candidate runs! By all of you changing your affiliation – you are doing a disservice by not being able to vote in the primaries.
I would be so excited if Hoffman won. I love love love stories like this.
For a while I was thinking the Republican brand was so damaged that it should just be taken over and renamed. But I suppose the same could be said about the Democrat brand.
The tea parties are the answer. I don't think most people follow the back-and-forth of politics, or read much, so getting out there and making yourself visible is a sure winner.
Then come with us! According to a Gallup poll, 40% of Americans call themselves Conservatives. This is about getting back to our Founding. We can get back to Conservatism in this Great Constitutional Republic or she will fail. Calling all Conservatives! Hear! Hear!
Send $9.12 to Hoffaman … it won't kill ya but send a message
An Accountant would be an excellent addition to the mathematically challenged Congress, a man who understands debits and credits and cash flow. That would be great to have at least one person who doesn't subscribe to the "print and spend" mentality of Washington D.C.
Doug, Donation headed your way from Iowa, we gotta throw the bums out!!
Don't kid yourself. Juan McAmnesty would hardly be an improvement over the current joker. The only difference is instead of nationalizing health care, we would be fighting to hold onto our national sovereignty against Juan's amnesty for anybody/open borders BS.
Go get 'em, Doug. I've sent some $$ to Hoffman directly, and supported other truly conservative candidates wherever they are running. The GOP is about as relevant as the NYT.
ElvisP— what a great idea! No reason we couldn't send $9.12 more than once, either.
Well, I honor the man and hope he wins. Hope he survives or at least lives long enough to do something good in DC at least. They will simply bury him in DC however. He will be the invisible man.
The pubbies will never pry their putrid lips from the lobbyists teats however. If the people could somehow pay them more than the corporocracy their might be some change but that can’t happen.

One of your big problems, Doug, is that you don't know much about the issues facing NY-23. We care about local issues. Internecine GOP spats don't make much difference to us.
http://www.watertowndailytimes.com/article/200910...
I sent money to Doug’s campaign and I live in Texas. Apparently Mr. Hoffman’s appeal is gaining momentum. Check this out:
http://www.clubforgrowth.org/2009/10/cfg_poll_hoffman_leading_in_ny.php
Doug leads the Dem and Scozzy!
Go Doug and let’s send a message to both the Dems and the RINO Republican Party!
I live in OK and sent money too. I don't think we're alone here. Go Hoffman!
Very much agree with this statement.
Hoffman Surges Ahead in NY-23 Race… RINO Scozzafava Campaigns With RINO Susan Collins… NRCC to Spend $300K on Dede
The poll of 300 likely voters, conducted October 24-25, 2009, shows Conservative Doug Hoffman at 31.3%, Democrat Bill Owens at 27.0%, Republican Dede Scozzafava at 19.7%, and 22% undecided. The poll’s margin of error is +/- 5.66%. No information was provided about any of the candidates prior to the ballot question.
I live in Virginia and am hearing buzz about this gentleman. Good luck, Mr. Hoffman!
Sent Doug a $50 donation on Friday, the RNC is done collecting money from me. I'll decide what CONSERVATIVE candidates deserve my hard earned money, thank you very much. What a novel concept, a businessman – an accountant even! – getting into the political machine and trying to make them actually *GASP* balance the books.
Good luck!
Hey, don't sell it short. We are set to make big ground in 2010!
There is a conservative mandate building and people on the other side are losing sleep over it.
I'm from the left coast in California, and am fighting the good fight with my conservative friends at our Tea Parties. I have asked them all to send Hoffman $9.12 (as suggested as another commenter here), as we almost all can all afford this amount, and Mr. Hoffman can take heart that his cause has obtained our support across the nation.
Doug, when you win, I hope you realize the histrionics that will befall your shoulders. You could well be the embodiment of the proverbial shot heard round the world. No pressure. But you know how it works. Half of the career politicians will want their picture taken with you. DON'T let them. Then the big guns will bring you into their lavish taxpayer provided offices to find out where your for sale sign is. PLEASE, don't have one. Then, when you think you can turn to the American people to have your back, look too see how far the crowd goes. I have a feeling, it will be legions. Thank you. And God Bless America.
What he said!
The Tea Party and town hall goers have the power to drastically change the game, if they only will. They do NOT need to form another third political party. But they do need to form something along the lines of a New Tea Party 527 organization through which they can raise money and seize control of the RNC.
If there are 5 million patriots nationwide, they could easily raise a half a billion dollars and 10 million American patriots can come up with a BILLION dollar war chest for as little as $100 each. My guess is there are more than 30 million patriots nationwide. Can they each come up with $100?
With money in the bank, they can begin to set RNC policy. They don’t even have to wait for the 2010 mid-term election cycle to do so. But they can control the outcome of future elections, if they are smart with their money!
The one thing leftists know how to do is consolidate power and move as one in a single direction.
Patriots need to borrow from that playbook.
Mr. Hoffman, we need more men and women like you. Honor our founding fathers, and lets build a strong new party.
Spot on!

You have the right idea. I have seriously considered changing my voter registration to Independent as well. No more voting based on the letter following a candidates name. If he or she is not in line with many of my views as a conservative, he or she will not get my vote. If Mr. Smith of the "Donald Duck" party is in line with my views, that is where my vote will be cast! The GOP had better clean house; and they'd better do it quick. We do not want any more RINO candidates!
Hear, hear!! Those who held office during the infancy of this country were farmers and merchants; average citizens. We must eject these elitists from our government and get some real representation in Washington!
Godspeed, Mr. Hoffman!
Who cares who you won't abandon, we Americans are going to abandon you.
How many votes does the NRCC have?
I know the American people have a lot more. Anyway it doesn't matter, we will have complete control of the republican Party once again after next Tuesday's election results.
We Reagan Democrats support Mr. Hoffman 100%.
Newt Gingrich had better recant his silly arguments that he uttered on Greta's show last night. The sooner he does it the less damge control that will be required.
If the Republican Party doesn't stand for its values, then it stands for nothing. The Republican candidate in NY is exactly what is wrong with this party. Best of luck to Mr. Hoffman, who represents the values that should and must be integral to the GOP.
The Doug Hoffman candidacy is an inspiring story for Tea Party enthusiasts, but ultimately the key point is that it will finally be up to the voters of NY 23rd to make their own free choice in this race, rather than be limited to what the party leaders is in their best interest.
We need to get organized to surge support strategically to other candidates in 2010 primaries and the general election – not by consolidating money in a party organization or PAC, but by networking individuals who retain full control over their own donation choices. Restore respect for independent voters by organizing such donors.
