Exclusive: Why I am Running, Doug Hoffman, Candidate for Congress in New York
by Doug HoffmanI did not make the decision to run for Congress lightly. I have never aspired to be a politician, but seeing the direction our country was heading, I had to act. I believe in the bedrock principles that have made our nation great; limited government, individual liberty and personal responsibility. I also think the public is more receptive to that message than ever before. The tea party and townhall movements have awakened the public and reconnected Independents, Democrats and Republicans to the ideals that made our nation, in the words of Ronald Reagan, “the shining city on the hill.”

Unfortunately, some individuals in the GOP leadership forgot their principles and misread the public sentiment. They orchestrated the nomination of a far-left candidate as the Republican nominee. Rather than compromise the principles I believe, I proudly threw my hat in the ring as the Conservative Party candidate.
The GOP candidate, Dede Scozzafava, has voted for taxpayer funded abortions, higher taxes, more government spending and has regularly sought the support of ACORN’s Working Families Party. She loudly voiced support for the stimulus bill that has increased our national debt but has failed to improve the economy. She is a vocal supporter of legislation that would force many workers into unions. She is an Olympia Snowe Republican willing to sell out her party and GOP principles of limited government, lower taxes, and more individual liberty. These are principles I hold strongly.
I refuse to let some individuals’ ideas of political expediency destroy the Republican Party and will campaign to wake up Republicans, Independents and many Democrats to take a stand. We must stand for something. If we sacrifice our principles for short-term gain–and forget the ideals that made our nation great–any “victory” we achieve is fleeting.
There are 15 days until the special election on November 3rd, and on that day, I’ll not only beat two liberal candidates; but I’ll send a message to Republicans that values matter. Values and beliefs such as: deficits are wrong, high taxes are wrong, federal stimulus is wrong, Card Check legislation is wrong, and turning your back on your party’s beliefs and your party in an Arlen Specter manner IS WRONG.
As a successful and trusted businessman in the North Country, I’ve been a CPA with multiple offices within the district. Also, over the years in Upstate New York, I’ve donated time as a Republican Community Leader with various organizations: Adirondack Medical Center, Adirondack Medical Center Foundation, Olympic Regional Development Authority, North Country Community College, Adirondack Economic Development Corporation, Lake Placid/Essex County Visitors Bureau, Lake Placid Fire Department, North Elba/Essex County Republican Committee, Lake Placid Lions Club and the Adirondack Community Methodist Church.
I look forward to servicing the good, honest, and hard-working people of the 23rd district in having their voice heard in Washington. Please visit my website www.doughoffmanforcongress.com and help get the good word out that Doug Hoffman is the conservative for the job.

Doug Hoffman.
I must admit I am somewhat ignorant of your race, your positions, but having read your material, and doing some research, you appear more imminently qualified than your opponents. The Republican party needs more people like this, to turn the party around.
Good luck Sir!
I live in NY(Glens Falls) and wish I could vote for this man—I have two of the most liberal asses to contend with and I will definitely be voting them out ASAP.
Good Luck…New York is a screwed up place.

For those not aware of this race, this piece references it, and just a few comments in I posted a link to a WSJ article detailing the race.
(Yes I am unabashedly directing traffic to Big Hollywood. You got a problem with that?)
yup, it sure is. i love new york, but i sure don't like the government here.
You can always send him money. Even if it doesn't get used for this election, the seat goes up again in 2010. By DC standards, the fundraising for that election will start… last November?
When do you think the clinton's will realize that obama stole the election from hillary?? The far far left commies put the smack down on hillary and they didn't even see it coming. All bill had was 'Don't stop believing' song when he got elected. obama had the whole arts world working for him. They probably know now but they can't say anything. obama express is still using bill and hillary. hillary is so non-exisitent that nobody from the half-white house even talks about her and what she is doing. i mean the clinton's use to be good at this stuff but obama makes them look act kids. obama is nothing more then a puppet for the far far left. Tough times ahead for us. God save our nation.
God be with you!
According to the photos, this guy doesn't talk out of both sides of his mouth because it's…well the same photo but reversed.
Nothing wrong with free promotion in a capitalist society.
Strange though, I can post freely here, but am banned from posting at Big Hollywood. I did something to pizz off one of the "hall monitors"………..
All right! A CPA and not a lawyer! Someone who has actual, real-world qualifications to legislate. What a foreign concept.
Best of luck.

Obama is a puppet for the World System.
If we don't do something quickly he is about to sign away our country to the world.
Lou Dobbs is the only news person I know that has the gut's to take the video on You Tube to the masses.

*sigh*
I have yet to see anyone banned at any of the sites, but Big Hollywood does have the largest list of words that Intense Debate automatically filters for. Do you keep getting "must be approved" messages? Also the cookies get messed up sometimes, delete all for bighollywood.breitbart.com and try again.
What would be really noble and a smart move by the NY GOP with all that has followed with their irresponsible selection of Dede Scozzafava would be to withdraw their endorsement of her now. A public mea culpa with an endorsement of the best fiscally conservative candidate who opposes the odious Card Check would be the highest form of sincerety. But, they won't.
Good luck, Mr. Hoffman, I hope you win in spite of the long odds in a three way vote split.
When you say about cookies, "Delete all for bighollywood…", do you mean "Accept all cookies"? That would make more sense for the comment to be posted, since blogs want cookies allowed.
Let's hope and pray many like Hoffman rise to the call in 2010 and 2012. If the Emperor has done anything, he has awakened a long slumbering patriotism in America that was overdue to arise. Both political parties should fear 2010 and 2012. The new era of citizen politician is beginning!
This guy Looks just like the other politicians (nothing against Doug), but he does look like a politician…..when is normal everyday Americans going to start running for office?
Sign our petition and lets get rid of them all http://myfreepress.net/petitions/dont-tread-on-me
I might add, he is just saying the same things ALL politicians say!!!!!!!!! We are tired of it!!!!
Hoffman will get my vote but will likely take enough votes away from the Scozzafava to put a Democrat into that seat. So be it…
Nah. As said, the cookies get messed up sometimes. I have had problems where a page either here or at BH would not load, looks like a possible server error, but deleting the cookies for the site fixed things. Once it seemed to clear up a "hidden post" issue, you post but it doesn't show up on the reload, but that could have been a slow server update. You delete the "broken" cookies, the site loads fresh ones, certain mysterious problems go away.
Goodluck. NYC needs cleaning up. Rangel does not represent NY. He represents only him and use his position to enrich himself.
God bless.
Good luck with the election. We need more people who understand real-world economics, as opposed to lawyers who've done nothing but serve in government their whole adult lives.
And it looks like Cowboy is no longer "banned" at BH…
The GOP and the DNC hasn't had a pro American{meaning the people and not their special interest}thought in their heads for decades. The only historical mistake is keeping all career politicians in both parties in office.
Since Obama got elected the democrats have shown just how much they really hate this country. The democrats need to be thrown out en-masse.I think Obama winning was a good thing because he showed everyone the true faces of evil.
The republicans need to be voted back in but all career politicians wear those evil faces because they're all bought and paid for.Fixing the Federal Government of the United States won't take a scapel,,,It'll take a giant axe.

Less lawyers, more CPA's in Congress will be a good thing
As been the case in several elections in the past here in New York and other locations. Right-wing loonies with un-electable candidates invade Moderate territories and attack electable candidates causing the electable candidates to have to waste money defending themselves against un-electable candidates. Same thing happened to Wayne Gilchrest because Club for Growth declared war on him because he wasn't "Conservative" enough in a district where there are no Conservatives worth a crap to matter. Democrat won. "Oh lets sacrifice 25,000 votes to appeal to the 500 Conservatives that may live here!" Club For Growth has done more good for the Democrat Party than a life time of George Soros'.
Can someone please step up and run against Neil Abercrombie? This Big Union tool is a disgrace. This clown wants to pass a bill so that U.S. taxpayers foot a $10 BILLION infrastructure build out of GUAM – yes Guam – so that a small handful of Hawaiians can make hyper-inflated union wages for construction related services.
I commend anyone trying to create jobs. But this is just another way to AGAIN enrich the coffers of union bosses.
Neil. Let's just make the bill $5 billion and leave the unions out of it. Something tells me that with performance incentives the job will get done in half the time. And you can find another way to fatten your belly. TOOL!
P.S. The right candidate running against Abercrombie will get my campaign services at no cost.
Club For Growth doesn't matter to Upstate New Yorkers because Club For Growth hasn't done jack-squat for anybody that lives here. Scozzafava has the endorsement of the National Rifle Association and to Upstate New Yorkers, that's as good as gold.
Hoffman has managed to dilute Scozzafava's vote to where now the Democrat has a comfortable lead and the constituents in NY23 like Owens because he is the only candidate running a clean campaign (unlike Scozzafava and Hoffman). Looks like another Wayne Gilchrest election where the Conservatives trying to bully themselves in an area where they're an insignificant minority and nobody wants them hand another seat over to the Democrats.

I read the same story. It's about rebuilding the Navy base on Guam. The rep from Guam says they can supply local non-union workers for less than half the price.Plus they wouldn't have to pay room and board for foreign workers.
Hey, Syntax_game, you are a little presumptive aren't you. We'll learn soon enough by the numbers on Nov. 3rd what the Upstate New Yorker voters want. You aren't their spokesman.
Your donation's in the mail, Mr. Hoffman. It's a small one but I bet you'll get lots of them. I'm not in favor of 3rd parties in general, that's how we got Clinton for 8 yrs, but this selection of a radical leftist as the GOP candidate was an outrageous slap at conservative republicans. Blessings and prayers, Mr. Hoffman.
No, I'm not their spokesman but I do live here in NY23 and have witnessed first hand the damage you people cause to elections by trying to bully your Right-wing ideology down the throats of a majority of people who don't want it. As the case again, I'm sure the Democrats will be sending "Thank You" notes to Club For Growth for the outstanding job they have done getting Democrats elected. They have done a great job in 2006, 2008 and looks to be that 2009 and 2010, they will continue to do their outstanding achievements for the Democrats.
The numbers show that Hoffman is still in 3rd place but now the Republican is in 2nd place and everyday, the Democrat climbs higher and higher in the polls. Are you sure you're not closet Liberals? You're by far more effective for Liberal causes than the Liberals. Hmmmm….I'm thinking you must be a Liberal.
"There are 15 days until the special election on November 3rd, and on that day, I’ll not only beat two liberal candidates; but I’ll send a message to Republicans that values matter."
Mr. Hoffman. I certainly hope you do. The political elite in this nation need to understand that character and substance are still prized above rhetoric and self aggrandizement. Our nation has, for a very long time, been sorely in need of true leaders. Men and women that understand for whom the constitution was written. Those who always reference the founding documents first before concerning themselves with legal precedence.
We've had our fill of self serving ex-lawyer politicians and power hungry millionaires with delusions of grandeur. We need conscientious representatives who seek not to govern or rule but to lead in good faith, respecting the will of the people. We want representatives that listen rather than lecture. Not a government, but the governance of the people, BY the people and FOR the people. A body or group of patriots who put domestic issues first and tends to it's own business before concerning itself with the affairs of other nations.
I hope the area voters are mindful of Owen's SEIU donations, $100,000 recently for radio ads.
http://www.cqpolitics.com/wmspage.cfm?parm1=5&...
The disgusting and anti-American thing about unions such as SEIU with its partnership with ACORN is that the dues paying rank and file members have no voice in how their union dues are being spent.
I realize this may be put down, insulted etc etc. However, even if you disagree, it is good to be aware of what is going on and what discussions are taking place.

Read and draw your own conclusions.
No offense, but, it's time to retire the birther obsessing, it's lame at this point being stuck on that and not serving the conservative cause. Isn't it enough that every news cycle brings compelling issues with Obama's challenges to the First Amendment, wreckless spending and foolish foreign policies that need focus and action on our part?
I'm long beyond the issue of Obama's birth certificate. It's like thinking that if my teenage daughter brought her out-of-wedlock baby home changing the birth certificate will make the problem go away.
Given the way things are going right now, I'm of the opinion that it is wiser to keep an eye on everything until something is proven or disproven cleanly.
I don't regard this as an obsession. I regard it as a "possible" eligibility issue. If this were to be proven true, then We the People have a serious problem to resolve.
On the good side, were it proven true, it would nullify every thing O has signed while occupying the WH. Would that be so bad?
Doug,
Congratulations on your decision to run for office. I see and read and hear from your rant what I see and read and hear from more than a majority of Republicans: Conversational Moderation. We need a hundred Joe Wilson's standing in lockstep yelling, "You lie!" Another Republican in a nice suit, dapper hair cut with the American flag in the background is not going to do it anymore. The GOP is in need of a rallying cry and a leader to marshal its GOP army. Appeasing to moderates and the Christian right has reduced the GOP to managing crossing guards on Pennsylvania Avenue. Playing nice-nice is for McCain, Snow, Specter and even George Bush. Joe Wilson said something to a leader that frankly has not been said by a Republican since Reagan stared down Gorbie and essentially called him a liar. Loosen the tie, roll up sleeves, go to Congress and raise hell. We've already got enough Bobby Jindals. We need John Wayne. Good luck to you, Doug.

SO…
You're saying that "Democrat Lite" is better than "Democrat", right?
Let's see…by that logic…Democrats might give up voting for a "Democrat" to vote "Democrat Lite"?
Moderates without jobs will vote for a mirror version only slightly less "mirror-y"?
You would have figured the GOP would have caught on after McCain bombed out…oops, sorry, "doomed to repeat history, because we didn't learn the last time"…
Mr. Hoffman, be true to yourself…and GO, GO, GO!!!
"You're saying that "Democrat Lite" is better than "Democrat", right?" — You got it! Catching on a little late but catching on none the same. A half a Dem is better than no Dem at all.
"Democrats might give up voting for a "Democrat" to vote "Democrat Lite"? " — Blue Dogs ring a bell to you? A Liberal Democrat would have very little appeal here in NY23 about the same as a Conservative Republican.
"Moderates without jobs will vote for a mirror version only slightly less "mirror-y"? " — I have no clue what you're saying here. All the Moderates here know is all the jobs were lost under Republican watch.
"You would have figured the GOP would have caught on after McCain bombed out" — It wasn't the GOP who picked McCain, it was the American, Republican voters who elected him in the 2008 Republican primaries. If there was enough of you to constitute a majority, than a better candidate more suitable to your ideology would have won the 2008 primaries but apparently, you don't have enough votes to make a difference. Picking Palin didn't help the GOP's cause last year neither.
I am from California and I gave to Doug Hoffman. I am going to give money to every true conservative that chooses to run for congress. I will do this until I run out of money.
I am right with you. No more party donations. Candidate direct only. And as you, I will give to the right candidate until broke. Gingrich makes me wanna puke.
I'll be pulling for you Doug! Just wish we could get a good conservative candidate over here in Westchester (NY-18) to take on that useless old bag Lowey.
Good luck, Mr. Hoffman. Will Ferrell needed more cowbell. Mr. Hoffman needs PalinNation.
As any follower of Sarah knows, she drew a crowd of 20,000 to see her in Geneva, NY earlier this year. You get her on your side and get her to commit to a couple of appearances for you and you'll win it in a landslide. You'd have an army of many folks coming from other states to knock on doors/man the phone banks for you. Plus, it will go a long way to show the RNC that SHE can blow up the Republican Party if/when SHE decides she wants to do so. Having someone like you on her team would be a major asset to force the Republican party to become a party of the people, and not a party of RNC consultants/talking heads.
Thank you for posting this. I haven't heard anything about this treaty. very very scary!!!! any other info you find please post for us. thank you.
At this point, this close to the election, yes any of us that want to donate should sure get that done.
I grew up in NY 23, and spent the weekend phoning home. My suggestion would be to burn up the email and social networking accounts to get in touch, with any folks you know in the area.
Many of you may be getting the ubiquitous 2010 Congressional Surveys from the RNC. I'm taking a page out of Abby Hoffman's 'Steal This Book', and using their Postage Paid envelope to express my dissatisfaction with their NY 23 candidate. Abby recommended weighting down such Postage Paid's (with bricks) so the point would ring home. BTW, Abby the 60's activist extraodinaire, was finally caught and arrested in NY 23, in the 'burg next to DeDe's home town, There are plenty of folks their, that lean to the right of the Interlopers from the City.

Or we'll just get President Biden and VP Pelosi. Or the Supreme Court will declare that nobody has standing in the case, and nothing will happen. Or the Supreme Court does consider the case, but rules that he's "native born" anyway because of his mother's citizenship. Or they rule that he's not "native born", but decide that the requirement doesn't actually matter…
People have to stop looking for a magic potion that will make Obama disappear. We have a chance to make him a lame duck in just over a year from now, and remove him from office completely in 2012. that's what we should be working towards, not wasting our time looking for deus ex machina solutons.

I am so happy to see people like you stand up. Good luck to you sir!!! I will be sending you a donation when I get home tonight
In all fairness, Dede is so pro-gay, pro-abortion, pro-ACORN, and pro-Statist that you may as well vote for a Democrat.
This proves the point of a good friend of mine ( a long-time Republican) who argues that the GOP will keep losing when they keep acting like DEMOCRATS.
Fred, the GOP is losing anyways. The GOP approval ratings right now are at a historical low. So acting like they are now isn't gaining them any favors with a majority neither. Maybe the voters of NY23 may not want Scozzafava but they sure as hell don't want Hoffman either. If the majority have such a problem with Democrats then why then are they electing them?

R.I.P. G.O.P.
Cowboy, I agree with you. With regards to race, though, I'll betcha he's a white boy.
Doug, I heard you on the radio. You sound like the man for the job!
Yes, thanks for posting that link. I was thinking Churchill even before the reference at the end.
This is an AWESOME candidate for the NY's 23rd Congressional District. Douglas L. Hoffman, running on the Conservative party. The democratic candidate is endorsed by SEIU (you know part of ACORN and arm of the democratic party) and the Republican candidate, Dede Scozzafava, is being endorsed by ACORN…she is pro-abortion, pro-gay marriage and the democrat is actually more conservative than the republican candidate. The Republican party is shooting themselves in the foot by endorsing her.
We need to promote Doug Hoffman because of his values. He is a veteran, been married for like 32 years, is pro-capitalism, believes in personal responsiblity and hard work, is pro-life, pro-legal-immigration, against amnesty.
Glenn Beck interviewed him on the radio show this morning and will have him on the Glenn Beck show on Thursday, Oct. 22. Rush Limbaugh was talking about him also and how the Republican party is stupid to endorse the female non-conservative candidate and was talking very positively about Hoffman.
Obama even held a fundraiser to fight Hoffman.
http://www.cqpolitics.com/wmspage.cfm?docid=news-...
Wiki has not been updated recently, but I heard on the radio that Hoffman has now moved into 2nd place in the poles and still on way up.
http://doughoffmanforcongress.com/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doug_Hoffman
I watched Glenn Beck tonight and was very disappointed when Glenn didn't interview him like he said he was going to. He said he was going to have him on his show but instead just mentioned the 3 candidates and not much more. He was absolutely loving Hoffman when he was Glenn's radio show but said he didn't know anything about him on his TV show. What gives? He should have Hoffman on there to give him some free press since Obama is fundraising for the Democratic candidate against Hoffman.
Here is the PDF of the Treaty…we have to stop him, we will no longer be a SOVEREIGN NATION AND WILL ANSWER TO THE UN.
http://www.globalclimatescam.com/documents/un-fcc...
People need to stop voting on a party line and vote for your values and principles.
That's why people should vote on the Conservative (Independent) not Republican…it will send the GOP a message.
Republicans should NOT be voting for her…she is NOT a conservative. She is pro-gay marriage, pro-abortion, and ACORN supports her and she accepted their support…need I say more?!?!

Palin is right, Newt and the RNC are wrong and voting for some one just because they have an (R) following their name is what helped get us into this mess.
