Obama Will Live to Regret Sending Gitmo Detainees to Illinois
by Debra BurlingameWho would have believed after 9/11 that our own president, the commander-in-chief who recently announced that he was sending another 30,000 troops to risk their lives in Afghanistan, would order that enemy combatants captured on the battlefield must be brought into the United States. We will live to regret this.
Barack Obama continues to cast the closing of Guantanamo and the importation of Al Qaeda terrorists into the American heartland as a moral victory. But this is nothing more than moral vanity and rank political theater aimed at satisfying his liberal soul-mates at the ACLU and Human Rights First. In truth, the security nightmare he is about to visit on this country will only be surpassed by the legal morass that will accompany the transfer of foreign terrorists to American soil. The moment the detainees arrive, their lawyers will drop an avalanche of legal challenges on the federal courts seeking to set them free, destroy what is left of the military commissions, and turn the 9/11 trial into a tragic farce. Americans should remember this: it doesn’t have to happen. The Supreme Court has said that Gitmo is lawful and that preventative detentions are constitutional. Barack Obama–and members of Congress who stand by and do nothing to stop him–will own this national security disaster.

Not to nitpick, but enemy combatants (Germans) were held on U.S. soil in WW2. However, the big difference is that they were COMBATANTS, not to be tried in civilian court!
In my humble opinion, Obama and Holder both have violated their oaths as attorneys because they each have made statements (i.e., the terrorists will be convicted, and the terrorists will receive the death penalty), and statements such as these violate an attorney's ethical duty to avoid public comment regarding a controversy which affects the ability of a tribunal to fairly and impartially hear the case.
They should be disbarred. In the case of Eric Holder, he must also be dismissed because he would not be qualified to serve as attorney genital.
They were Prisoners of War, which is a very different category. They were covered by the Geneva Convention. None of the Gitmo prisoners is a Prisoner of War (which the Supreme Court has upheld). That's the big difference.

This whole mess revolves around the fact that Congress never made a formal Deceleration of War, this is officially a military engagements authorized by Congress, actually 2 of them. But unlike the 12 prior military engagements, we have no one to turn our prisoners over to because these were attacks on us, not an ally being invaded.
This sure is my type of guy…Nothing we have in our Dear Leader comes close to anything this man stands for.

Both should be impeached and removed, and not just for the KSM trial. That Holder hasn't been removed over the Black Panther controversy is a stain on the honor of the Justice Department.
Something I have been asking myself, one who knows little about Law other than not to break it, is there anything impeachable going on with these turkeys? It seems to me this whole thing is treasonous, selling our country down the path for the mere need to make a past President and Vice President be on trial for what the left feels waterboarding is a war crimes. These men are not Americans, how can they be given the rights of a citizen for due process in the United States? And yeah, whats with the guilty before being given a trial? Is that an issue that can cause problems for this case? Please forgive my ignorance if I asked a stupid question, I am behind the curve in this area of knowledge, but want to know more. The one thing I do know that there will be repercussions from this for years and in ways we cannot even imagine…we will only be able to look back and know that it was the point in history where things went drastically wrong. If you want to talk about "historical", this is the first and ONLY time that a sitting president has gone after the previous president and/or members of his administration, in the history of the nation and yes, that IS what Obama is trying to do. It's been an unwritten law that that just isn't EVER to be done. But then, Obama knows nothing about how our government works, it's history, and doesn't give a damn.
But he has opened so many doors, that when the GOP takes over, and they shall at some point, the tables could and SHOULD be turned on all Dems.
As lawyers, both of them should know better than to make statements that could taint the jury pool, especially in a liberal bastion as NYC. I think they did it deliberately. If any of these jerks, but especially KSM, gets off on a technicality, Obama should be inpeached and his sidekick, Holder, should be immediately fired as AG. I agree with disbarring both of them and no, I'm not a lawyer.
Obama denied signing anything authorizing Holder to do this, but I don't think Holder has the authority to do this without the CinC's consent. Obama could stop this, but he's appeasing his leftist base during an election year and will put Bush, Cheney and the CIA on trial. I think a good case could be made for accusing both him and Holder of giving aid and comfort to the enemy at a time of war.
Now that I think about it, this could be why they changed the name from a "war" to an "overseas contingency operation." They knew at the beginning of the year they were going to do this. They were thinking ahead.
I just wanted to briefly address the idea of waterboarding being "torture." While the US uses it as psychological torture, our enemies actually drown those they use it on. We had a diplomat within the last 10 years or so who was dragged out of his home in the middle of the night (I think he was in Pakistan, but not really sure) who was wataerboarded until he drowned. In that sense, it was torture. On the other hand, our SEALS and other Special Ops personnel are "waterboarded" as part of their training. There is a HUGE difference.
Just reading this is a little funny, I enjoy everyone's right to bash the President and understand that Americans have just as hard a role in everything. I'm also sure that we can understand the responsibility that comes with being appointed as the CINC. It's cool, I know that if I had to be responsible for everything I'd get it all right too, just like every other president has. It's pretty easy to fix any and every problem in and out of the US and please everyone. Take a pill and enjoy the US because it's AWESOME!! The detainees are being moved to a MAXIMUM security facility. The area's residents want them there. Why would anybody argue with this decision?
What's REALLY scary is all the damage he's done and it's still barely his FIRST year in office. GOD help us all.
Ah heck with it. Gather up the info we have for each of the detainees, the info we can release without compromising national security (as in how we got it), and send them back to their home countries. One, we know it'll be too much of a hassle to just keep them until they grow old and die. Two, what passes for the legal system in many of those countries will not treat them as nicely as we have. Some might not make it during the trip from the airport and get shot "trying to escape." Three, if they try to "return to the fight," which is currently in Iraq and Afghanistan, they will have a much better chance of receiving "military justice" than the liberal-hampered current Gitmo process allows.
Toss them back on the dungheaps they crawled from, and good riddance to bad rubbish. Sure, some of them will get hailed as heroes. So what? We've shown them what the real value is of being a martyr. What will they really gain from being failed martyrs?

I think it is proper and fiting the Gitmo "detainees" be sent to Illinois. They will fit right in with the criminal element there. They were considering sending them to Montana, but were afraid the Crow would eat them. We spread the rumor they tasted like buffalo hump……..
Perhaps the hidden agenda of this administration is to create a terrorist state here, like that which exists in many other countries. Doing so would give cause for them to further step on personal freedoms and liberties while grabbing more power for the executive branch, much as Bush did with the patriot act. I can't figure any other logical reason for this action.
Once the prisoners are transferred from Gitmo, we all know what will happen. The ACLU and other Liberal groups will start whining and filing lawsuits about the conditions at the new prison.
I don't believe that this transfer has much to do with appeasing Obama's Leftist base as nothing makes those people happy. In my opinion, Obama is doing this to try and appease the Muslims more than anything else.

With Climategate going on, I've started reading Andrew Bolt's Herald Sun blog. While few, his postings on Australian politics, as in Rudd's Labor (liberal) party vs the Liberal (conservative) party, have been quite informative about what the PM and his party really are about. People are mad about this statement but it is a fact, if Congress would have made a formal Declaration of War then these "detainees" would be POWs and would follow a clear legal path. Since there is non, it has created a legal black hole & politicians are using them to push different agendas thus the two moronic ideas that we see playing out, the trials in NY & moving the prisoners (let's call them what they are, Terrorists & prisoners) to Illinois. One good thing is that they're conditions in Illinois will be less desirable than in Gitmo.
What's everyone so agitated about? While these poor, misunderstood young men are being housed in the Illinois prison (hey Illinois Dept. of Corrections, don't forget to send a thank you note to BHO for ensuring your continued employment with extra Federal $$$), they will have the opportunity to educate themselves in the prison library and receive PhDs. When they're acquitted, they will become Professors of Education in some of Illinois's finest institutions of higher learning. They will define the curriculum your children are taught in public schools. They will ghost write biographies for Community Activists. They will host fundraising parties for prospective young congress persons and Senators. They will elect a future President of the United States.

There is nothing 'wrong' in my statements.
The current GOP leadership has, since Gingrich abandoned the Contract With America, consistently acquiesed to the demands of a democrat minority to 'share power' and 'get along'. Since the repubs became the minority in both House and Senate, there has been little demonstrated leadership to stand up against the dems. Until either the attitude of the current leadership, or the leadership itself, changes, we will continue to have democrat-lite repubs. Witness the presidential candidate the repubs offered up against Obama. Michael Steele and the RNC aren't cutting it. Joe Wilson is, calling Obama the liar that he is to his face. And what did the repubs do?
It remains to be seen if those repubs elected in 2010 will have the determination and the will to reform the GOP as it now stands. If not, the repubs will continue to try to 'get along' with the likes of Pelosi and Reid, Durbin, Frank, Schumer, et al. and history will repeat itself.
My statements stand.

There is a lot wrong with EVERYTHING you have written; excluding the fact that Gingrich strapped on the kneepads for Clinton, whilst he was still the Leader and hasn't ever removed them.
OTOH…………………..not a single GOPers has voted for ANYTHING under Obama, except for a tiny few idiot breakaways for the Porkulus Bill.
It is extremely RARE for the GOP to handpick a presidential candidate ( as they did with Ike, whom the Dems also went after, in a rabid pack, back then ) and it was the MSM and crossover voters ( not to mention some vicious grassroots fighting ) which gave us the hideous McQueeg.
Michael Steele, the GOP's AFFIRMATIVE ACTION head, stinks on ice. You'll get no argument from me, about that.
The Dems also had a lolusy roster of candidates, in their primary, so don't try to just blame the GOPers. That Obama won is beyond the point. And Clinton? Bloody Bill Clinton? Now there was a great choice…………………………..NOT! Back in the old smoke filled back room days, neither Clinton nor
Obama would ever have been considered; let alone allowed to run.
You're really not at all informed, claiming that the GOP is "trying to get along with the lijes of Pelosi………………" et al. Nekither, so it appears, ares you keeping up with whom the GOP has now in place to run against many Dems, come the 2010 election.
Go forth and educatge yourself, before you make even a bigger fool of yourself, than you already have.
To return to the original point you are trying to make of how the repubs should treat the dems, show me where they have turned the tables on the dems, instead of 'crossing the aisle' and trying to get along with them.
I sincerely do hope for the welfare of this country the dems get their lunch handed to them, but I have little confidence that the repubs, with the exception of Bachmann, Wilson, Sennenbrenner, Kyle, and a few more, have the backbone to carry through. They haven't before when they were in power—they started acting like democrats, and betrayed the trust you and I and a majority of American conservatives placed in them.

Until his outburst, Wilson had been one of THE quietest man in either House, ever. An d since then, he hasn't said or done anything much either. Don't believe me? Go check his record.
Bachmann had been another nonentity, but now she has fashioned herself as a one off Palin. She has also aligned herself with that crazy crank Ron Paul, to garner more of a following. Since most GOPers and those who vote GOPer don't like Paul that was not all that smart a move. I do give her kudos, though, for having a spine and fighting back…………..now.
Since the Porkulus, the GOP leadership,. such as it is, has been VERY successful in keeping the membership on board and not a one of them have voted for anything the Dems keep pushing. They really can't do much more than that, due to the minority status they hold in both Houses. OTOH, do take a look at the early roster of self announced GOP candidates running
against Dems next fall; most of them are conservative and should do well, once elected.
RINOS, in primary contests ( such as Crist, who should fail against Rubio in Fla. and the ones in Ct. ) probably won't make it. That should brighten your outlook, some.
My education ( via school and real life ) is just fine; unlike your's.
Conservatives in this country are crying for REAL Leadership. Witness the meteoric rise of Sarah Palin, whom I voted for despite McCain being in the way. Had the repub leadership shown an ounce of smarts, they would have allowed her to rally conservatives to the lackluster RINO McCain. They didn't.
Joe Wilson–having been betrayed by a repub leadership that should have backed him instead of allowing the dems to rebuke him on the House floor–for simply speaking the truth. I don't blame him for keeping quiet since, given those kinds of 'friends'.
You mentioned handpicked candidates, but failed to mention the repubs putting Bob Dole against Clinton in '96. Almost like there was a backroom deal to insure Clinton's win.
You also fail to mention Snowe and Collins, both repubs who can't be counted on, and so on………..

When President Bush the younger took office, many people on other forums wanted him to go after Clinton and his administration. I tried to explain that that just wasn't EVER done and it wasn't ! They were and some probably still are, furious at Bush for not doing so. I tried to explain just WHY that was a "bad thing", no matter how they felt and how that would change our nation forever.
2010 will only change things if the people walk right past the candidates the Republican senatorial and congressional committees serve up in the primaries, and nominate candidates that actually ARE conservatives.
And by conservatives, I do not mean the usual GOP crowd who spend like Democrats and submit more and more laws that regulate every aspect of our lives, all the while placating the base with talk of "the homosexual agenda" and school prayer. I mean conservatives that will return our Constitution to its place as the basis for the foundation of what is left of our country.

Candidates of all parties ( the two maor ones and the fringe ones too ) say anything and everything to get elected. Some actually mean what they say, but actions speak louder than words and there;s no way to really know what someone truly stands for, until they have a record.
