Restoring Honor Rally Changes Hearts and Minds
by The Central Texas 9-12 ProjectSaturday, August 28, 2010, my husband, two daughters, and I attended the Restoring Honor rally in Washington D.C. It was a wonderful experience for us all. The crowd was huge (500,000 + people), very peaceful, and individuals were kind and patient. You might think that the important part of the weekend was the three and a half hours (or more) that we spent together during the rally. When I was sitting under the bright, hot sun with my friends from Texas, I thought so too. But I was wrong…
During the first leg of our trip from D.C. to Chicago, our two daughters, ages 22 and 16, sat next to an African-American gentleman wearing an Obama inauguration t-shirt. After take-off, he mentioned to them that he had travelled to D.C. to attend Al Sharpton’s Reclaim the Dream rally. Our older daughter told him that they were in D.C. for the Glenn Beck Restoring Honor rally, and the conversation took off from there.
The gentlemen told my daughters that he went to the Restoring Honor rally with several friends because Al Sharpton told them that we were holding a negative protest that was against MLK’s message and against those who had gathered for Rev. Sharpton’s rally. He said that when he and his friends arrived that they didn’t see anything that they expected, so they stayed a bit to listen. They realized that Restoring Honor was not anything like what Rev. Sharpton told them to expect. They then returned to the Sharpton rally to try to tell several people that what Rev. Sharpton was saying about our rally was not true. He saw that our rally was not a political or hateful rally, and that it was not meant to divide Americans. He tried to get a message to Rev. Sharpton prior to his speech, but either he didn’t get the message or he ignored the message. Rev. Sharpton went forward with his original speech as planned.
This kind gentleman then told my daughter some things that amazed us. He told them multiple times that he was a Democrat, and that the tide had turned since MLK’s day, and that the civil rights movement had not changed with it. He asked the girls to watch Al Sharpton on CNN. He thought that Sharpton looked ridiculous on CNN because it was the perfect opportunity to say that he was sorry for his criticism of the Restoring Honor rally. Then they discussed the media. He and the girls agreed that the lack of truth in the media and the lack of individuals’ willingness to do their own research would be our country’s downfall. He followed up by saying that Glenn was something special and possibly the modern day MLK. He said that from now on when Glenn spoke he would take the time to listen, and that Glenn or someone like him would be the next great President. The girls told him that they felt sure that Glenn would never run.
The girls asked if he would come to the rally if we had another one. He said maybe, it depended on what was going on in his life but, he would be with us in spirit for sure.
During the last few days I talked with folks and I came to understand two things:
First, the event wasn’t for or about 9-12ers, Tea Partiers, or those of us who have become politically active during the last year and a half. It was for ALL of America — every single person that we hope will be inspired to put God, integrity and honor first in their lives. It was for the majority of Americans who may even be watching from the sidelines, but who believe that the priorities of Faith, Hope (Trust), and Charity.
Second, there is REAL hope that Americans of all ethnicities and faiths can peacefully unite around our common desire for truth in our lives and in our country. We cannot give up and we must continue to build relationships, one person at a time through kitchen table conversations. We must help every American know that they are not alone and that there are many folks who will unite with them around our honorable founding principles.
Pretty strong stuff. Our 16 year old told me that the weekend experience changed her life.

My husband and I went to DC from Colorado. It was a life changing experience and Glenn Beck is one smart guy!
We were about halfway between the Lincoln Memorial and the WWII Memorial, couldn't see a thing but heard everything. The crowd was quiet and LISTENING the entire time, two and a half hours, including children. I could not tell you how many times we ALL stood up and gave standing ovations to all of the speakers, many times each, even though we could not see from where we were sitting. There was alot of repsect given that day to those who attended and spoke.
This is not the country he envisioned. I believe the three you mentioned are doing more damage to their race than good.
The 'Restoring Honor' headline for this piece is something the MSM just cannot handle.
MSM heads are exploding , their eyes are shooting blood, and their babbling is totally incoherent!
New Media is decimating the control that the OLD Media once held over this nation. A snowball is rolling down a hill that cannot be stopped and it is growing every day. The race baiters' fifteen minutes of fame are coming to an end, the class and race cards are losing their prominence and Americans are coming together in spite of those who attempt to keep us divided.
Americans are no longer repeating words once said, they are actually understanding that they can live them if they choose.
Character, honesty and integrity actually do matter. As the days go by, those who embrace these things wil prosper and those who choose not to will be left in the dust as We The People reject the game that has been run on us for far too long.

I was at the rally and can also truthfully say that it changed my life. Events like this happen only a few times in a lifetime. I'm glad I was able to attend. God Bless Glenn and everyone else involved.
It's scary to realize how directly the media represents the interest of people that want to hold onto their elite positions of power and control, and how willing they are to use propaganda, smears and lies to manipulate the undeducated masses.

THEY might be surprised to see that Tea Party types are decent Americans. But the Tea Party had no doubts because the Tea Party was kindled within our souls as the wholesome impulse towards preserving the individual liberty bestowed by God. We know who we are, and we know who THEY are. But whether THEY weep and nash their teeth or not, the Tea Party is compelled to move forward and create a new version of an old idea- Freedom and Justic for All. When THEY understand this, America will take a giant leap forward.
Thank you for your story. Even though I could not physically be there at the rally, I did watch it on C-SPAN. I can honestly say that it was the most inspiring event that I have ever seen. It showed me that there is hope for America.

I'm sure that there were many others that were at the rally that had their hearts changed. Many forced to face the truth, that's why Beck is "dangerous" to the left. The left is trying to accuse conservatives of racism to discourage blacks from attending.
I flew from California to attend the Restoring Honor rally on August 28th; it was fantastic!
At first I was disappointed that the rally would not be political. But now I realize the brilliance of Beck's strategy: The message of the Tea Party movement is unassailable. The vast majority of Americans are frightened and angry at Washington's out-of-control spending and borrowing from our children's future to buy votes.
So the only weapon, the Democrats had for countering our compelling message, was to portray Tea Party members as nut jobs and "racists". But the Beck rally effectively crushed that disgusting, bogus meme.
The Beck rally allowed the world to see that America is full of honorable, normal, sincere people of faith and their families, who just want the country to return to the magnificent vision of our founding fathers as expressed in the U.S. Constitution.
Well, let's see – I was born in Australia. My mother is Australian, her mother, Swedish direct from Sweden, her father, Scots direct from Scotland, my dad's family can claim Dutch, Irish, Scots, Welsh, English, German and – you know – I just prefer American!
It all began when THEY decided that melting pot wasn't good enough – we had to describe America as a "salad bowl." Well, THEY were wrong. There is a difference between ethnicity and culture. Ethnicity is why we're all Mexican on Cinco de Mayo and Irish on St. Patrick's day. That's why ethnic restaurants are fun. But in the end, more than one culture spells trouble for any country.
It's a fight between "good" and "satanic evil". Alinsky did refer to Satan. Obama is a " has been" but Hillary is part of the Alinsky dogma. We cannot let these people occupy our governement.
I think we are winning and even though I did not attend the rally but watched every second of it on C-SPAN, I know a large percentage of people in this country are good and moral and we will win the war.
Thank you for all that attended this rally. Thank you Glenn Beck for doing this for our country. It was awesome. I still am awe-struck by the magnitude of people who still believe in this country.
You bring up an excellent point. That being this idea of "multiculturalism." Somehow the "pc" police have infused America with the idea that we should celebrate "diversity." But the fact is that this is nothing more than a cheap attempt to minimize the true AMERICAN ideal of "unity." E Pluribus Unum is NOT a call to diversity. It is exactly what it says, "From Many, One." This is what defines the American Culture. That no matter what your racial identity, no matter what your national identity, no matter what your cultural background, we are ONE PEOPLE, united in our quest to be a Free People. This is what makes us all Americans. Not Chinese Americans, or Black Americans, or Irish Americans. We are AMERICANS. And our strength comes from our unity.
So thanks for bringing up the point. Perhaps one day soon, we will again become unified in our collective desire to be One Nation, Under God, Indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for ALL.

Scary stuff. We must inform ourselves. Our enemies are patient and they are achieving their goal with very few people involved. They have co-opted the useful idiots in our society and they have come very close to taking America down. We must educate ourselves, get your kids out of government schools because they're indoctrinating this generation to accept communism as something desirable.

The point was to renew yourself and let the rest follow from there. I needed it an actually have seen good results for myself 9 days in on the 40 day challenge put forth by Glenn. Non political, non denominational personal renewal , what is so bad about that , naysayers?
It is amazing how long it took for someone, like yourself, to make such a dramatic and meaningful statement. If only those mentioned truly cared about our country as much as they care about their pitiful, self serving selves. During the life of MLK I thought of him as a threat when he was actually right on target and a true American. Obama, Jackson and Sharpton work only to justify their existence and serve no meaningful purpose. They are not real Americans and should be banished from our country.

Several of you here knew my journey, for those who don't I left the Bay Area of CA on Monday prior to the rally, in my truck. Drove to DC in four days, attended the Rally and drove back home. 20 different states, 5851 miles, 11 days.
It changed my life. We are now looking for a good chuch in our home town. I have never attended church. We are going to live our lives more towards God and being better neighbors, friends and family members. Beck didn't change me, he helped me understand a better way of life with the message from all those who spoke, but mostly the other 500,000 + people I stood on the grass with that day.
There was one kid who walked by us (and the other gillions of people) and asked as Glenn was speaking "who IS that"? funny

I say Glenn Beck is right on the money, supporting God given, natural, unalienable rights and rejecting the notion of statism, and omnipotent government arbitrarily dispensing rights to humans. He does this by bringing in the religious component which cannot be ignored.
Glenn Beck is correct in reminding all Americans, that our foundations are religious values, and for good reason, because they are universal, timeless, and cannot be revoked. It means there is no turning back for us, or humanity; not now, not ever and the Constitution is not now, nor shall it ever be negotiable.

Oh, yeah, they're a sweet bunch. Actually, though, my guess would be that Alinsky was poking fun at all of us "religious fanatics," and that his dedication was an elitist's joke. I think most of the hard left believe that God doesn't exist, and so of course they've bought into Lucifer's biggest lie, that he doesn't exist. it just makes it a whole lot easier for the devil to get them into his pocket.

Good question (I think) creepy Marxist guy. I think the answer is that y'all "oppressed" Oprah-watching lazy asses still like to take free stuff from the eeevil bourgeoisie. The folks in the Tea Party movement who produce stuff are deemed "greedy" because they are reluctant to have their stuff stolen by y'all "proletariat" parasites.
The "oppressed" folks in the public employee unions are not satisfied with their bloated salaries and morbidly obese defined-benefit pensions, so they demand more than twice the compensation earned by productive folks in the private sector. The "oppressed" trial lawyers are not satisfied with raking in fist-fulls of cash from the most litigious country on the planet, so they have their buddies in the legislature pass more laws and regulations to trip up the honorable folks trying to produce goods and services. The "oppressed" folks in the ruling class are not satisfied with already taxing everything that moves, so now they are calling carbon dioxide a "pollutant" so they can tax the very air we breathe.
