Juneteenth 2010: Crowd-Sourcing Wikipedia in Honor of E. Frederic Morrow
by The Central Texas 9-12 ProjectToday, we celebrate Juneteenth. On this day in 1865, the slaves in Galveston, Texas learned from Union General Gordon Granger that they had been freed by the application of the Emancipation Proclamation with the end of the American Civil War.
The Central Texas 9-12 Project continues to focus on educating ourselves about American history. We are inspired by “Setting the Record Straight: American History in Black and White” by David Barton (available at Amazon.com). This book discusses the contributions that African Americans made to our American culture well before the modern civil rights movement. As we did further research we found a list of African-American Republicans on Wikipedia. There are only 98 listed here.

While we maintain a non-partisan position for our organization, we feel that this list of 98 Republicans drastically underestimates the number of politically conservative African-Americans. We will add this gentleman to the list, E. Frederic Morrow. (1906-1994) Morrow was the first African-American to hold an executive position at the White House. He served under President Dwight D. Eisenhower as Administrative Officer for Special Projects from 1955 to 1961.
Wikipedia is edited by the users. There are no pre-requisites and no costs associated with contributing accurate, factual information to this resource. In the spirit of honoring the contributions of African-Americans from both sides of the aisle, and with a desire to reach further back in our country’s history than the last fifty years, we issue this call to action.
Who can you add? Will you help us “Set the Record Straight” by adding the names of great African-American Republicans?

Lt. Colonel Allen West.
Although that is current, and not reaching back in history. I feel he is worth noting.
Glenn Beck dedicated an entire show to the African Americans that contributed much to the freedoms we now enjoy! I had no idea, as that important part of American has been suspiciously eliminated from our history books! Bravo to Glenn Beck for educating the masses !!!
I think that FOX News would be doing a great PUBLIC SERVICE if they took 1 Successful Black Patriot or American every week and did lead in PSA's to all PRIME Time Shows. That would help awaken Blacks with courage, common sense and morals.
Be sure to update the Wikipeida site to make your aditions. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/African-American_Rep...

Wikipedia is also 'run' by regressive basement dwellers who suffer from an unhealthy amount of Unwarranted Self-Importance. I'll try, when I get the chance. God bless TX and happy Juneteenth!
Cool! Thanks!
This is a very educational project and I greatly appreciate your efforts. Our government needs to disband the Dept. of Education or else start over. People are not receiving the correct educational instruction in our public schools especially as it concerns our American History. But no, instead, we have a government that would rather regulate the internet, spy on its people, and censure this kind of important information.
When the people know and understand their history; it is empowering. A Nanny State cannot exist – and these progressive socialist radicals know it.
Thanks
[...] pointing out Juneteenth here. They are now mentioned here. Congrats! It’s always great to be picked up by a major news blog. Bookmark It [...]
You know the drill.
The Nanny State, the Race-Baiters, those who profit from choas and strife, ie the Jessie Jacksons and Crazy Al Sharptons, cannot exist as parasites without a host. They must keep the masses ignorant, in order to survive.
It is no longer the mantra of "Keep the Dream Alive".
It is instead: "Keep the Hate Alive."
Without the great unwashed ignorant masses to fill their coffers, the Rainbow Coalation would cease to exist. Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton would be enemployed shoe shine boys, because they are far too lazy and self important for manual labor.
The two combined do not have the ambition, or intelligence to pull weeds from a garden.
Can't you just see all of these regressive progressive folks, sitting in their dark basements, shorts around their ankles, chain smoking, hammering away at their keyboard?
Now there is a vision, eh?
BRB. Gotta get more smokes………
Dr. Frances Rice at the NBRA. I'm sure you will find dozens if not hundreds of others when you visit her website.
As you know, most people have been dumbed down by these liberal-arts technocrats so much that they hardly know what day it is. This coupled with the media freakshow has caused disastrous effects. The combined effect, and lack of a moral compass, is the reason that most liberals cannot think rationally. I have learned that the liberal thought process is based on race, gender and social-status (class). They have lost all capacity to use logic whereas they are bound to a case-closed ideology, with no room for reasoning.
That's my half-hearted attempt to expain the difference between us conservatives types; and the liberal.
You mention moral compass.
Inside the front lid of my briefcase, I have a compass tied to the divider strap. Whenever I flip the lid open, I see it. It has been there for 25 years. It is one of those "little things". A reminder, for me.
Whenever I have been in a meeting, and am faced with a hurdle; a temptation, whenever someone might propose something that doesn't "feel right", all I need to do is look at that compass, or think about it. It is habit, and I have trained myself through the years, to always remind myself that there are things that come before money, profit and business. It is my moral compass.
I ask myself:
Is it honest?
Is it ethical?
Is it fair to all concerned?
Therein lie most of the answers in life.

That Beck show was one of the best hours of broadcast I have ever seen. Educational, inspiring and infuriating.
This is outstanding. A trinket, especially ones that have sentimental value such as a family heirloom, help keep us grounded. Your example is well worth noting. Thanks.

When has ANYBODY on ANY network or cable news ever made you go "Wow, I didn't know that" and the information be without dispute factual like Beck did on that show? And they wonder why he is so popular.

Why african american republicans? Why not just great african americans that contributed meaningfully to our society? I'm sure there are TONS out there! (no sarcasm here)
What an elegant looking man. We need more men like this one!

I just finished American History in Black and White…fantastic! I was truly shocked to learn that between 1182 and 1964 there were 4,743 documented cases of Americans lynched…and that of those 3,446 were black and 1,297 were white. (Seems as though the one thing common in all of the cases was that they were all trying to vote for or supportive of the Republicans.)
