Federal Spending Doubles in Less Than a Decade
by Chris MoodyRemember the good old days, when the federal government was, shall we say, smaller? And by “smaller,” I mean half the size it is today.
Well you should, because that was only nine years ago.
Economist Chris Edwards ran the numbers, and found that since 2000, the federal government’s budget has doubled, from $1.79 trillion to an estimated $3.65 trillion today. Much of that can be contributed to former president Bush’s giant spending programs and the increase in defense spending to pay for the wars, but the largest upswing occurred just in the past year.
In 2009, the federal budget exploded from $2.98 trillion to an estimated $3.65 trillion, which would be the largest one-year leap in nearly 60 years when adjusted for inflation.
DownsizingGovernment.com has all the details, including a breakdown of federal spending by each federal department. It might even make you pine for those “old days.”

There is no future with this kind of careless spending!
Both parties are at fault here. With few exceptions, politicians from both sides are spending us, our children and our grandchildren into oblivion. We need to stop this reckless spending now.
Vote these clowns out of office and if the next group put in isn't any better, put them on the unemployment line too. Unless we the people stand up and put a stop to this, it'll never stop.

Ron Paul raised this issue during his noble albeit ill-fated campaign in support of ditching the income tax – the revenue generated thus pales in comparison to the amount of money hemorrhaged by the federal government
Quite frankly, where we are defies many laws; the laws of gravity, the laws of physics, and the laws of economics. Where we currently are, not only is this level of debt unsustainable, the interest cannot be paid. The Federal Government is a bloated pig, an inverted pyramid scam and it will contiune to implode. What we are witnessing is history unfolding, and it will deteriorate rapidly.
Russia, Japan and the OPEC countries are jockeying for postion against US, and oil will soon be priced in a variety of different currencies. Simultaneously, China is jockeying for position to line up oil contracts to continue growing their economy. China, through the sale of their junk substandard goods into the global Walmart pipeline is holding billions of dollars of worthless US paper. The Gulf Petro-States hold the same billions in Petro-Dollars and the Foreign world; Europe, Asia and the Middle East hold TRILLIONS of dollars of worthless US Dollar mortgage backed securities. We wonder why the world is aligned against US? Fiscal mismanagement.
What this is, is truly a Black Swan event.
Goes to show both Republican and Democrats have no issue in Bankrupting this country and quickly. When do we start the auction of selling our National Parks? Or maybe we could sell Washington DC for starters and the buyer must keep all the Politicians and Lobbyist.
I just read this at heritage and I quote :

This is indeed very frightening.

Judging from both of these articles – This is indeed very frightening.
I am sorry to say you are correct. We are witnessing the end of the American dream.
Gary, your link is bad.
Yep. That is why I am so pasionate about this fight. We are in a fight for the heart and soul of America. For those libtards to not allow my children, my grandchildren to have the same opportunities that I have experienced in life makes me very angry.
They (the left) feel they are entitled. They went to the right schools, have the right education. They are educated idiots. They have never started a business, never failed, and tried again to succeed. They want to change the world, so that they can have the benefits that we have earned. Because that is what the Cloward-Pliven Strategy tells them they can do.
It’s not spending……..its WASTING!
We’re going to be in debt for the next 200 years….to China.
They say we shouldnt be buying oil from countries that hate us….yeah, well we shouldnt be borrowing money from countries that hate us, either! All to pay for their pork
They must have changed things. Here it is again.

Lets see if it works this time.
Gary, it worked, and thanks. it is just not you. i have a hard time with those links working. When I post them, I always check the post and they work. I'll come back later and they are disabled. Makes one wonder, eh?
But they do not realize once they tear down this nation they will not have the benifits and wealth they think they deserve. The ones in power will of corse, but the little guy will be worse off. What fools the lefty little guys are…..
It is a real sad state of affairs.
yes it does. In fact I have been wondering allot lately…..
Perhaps when we break out the tinfoil hats, we need to wear earplugs? That way we won't be able to hear the black helicopters…………
Liberals are bad at math….and when they are in power, that is disastrous for the rest of the nation.
LOL There may be some truth to that….. LOL
here, here. the whole group has to go. the republicans don't know how to control themselves anymore these days either. unfortunately, i don't think people care enough to educate themselves. hopefully something will change before next fall.
Interesting article. From one year ago. It was prophetic……….

Ronald Reagan where are you when we need you?
Congress and its "Checks and Balances" cohorts (Executive and Judicial branches) have no further wish to "GOVERN" the country. And "we the people" have allowed this to unfold….
They are soon to be recognized as "THE RULING GOVERNMENT" with the citizens rights minimized and no future remedy for correction.
Not a doomsayer but…. We have one last opportunity to overthrow this insanity… It's called the 2010 midterms..
Wake up, America. Do not forget who put this incompetent and submissive male into office who seeks to destroy the greatness and exceptionalism of this country and its human assets. (Libs and welfare freeloaders excluded).
Old Charly Rangel may be on his way out.

Can't happen fast enough for me !
After reading the article, I realized that health and Human Services is a huge consumer of our money.

It is a crime to expand Federal spending like that…..Be worried, be very worried about the future!!
I think we should start by selling Charlie Rangal's houses. He wont need them when he is in jail.
However true that may be, the republicans screwed us pretty bad, also. I thought it was ridiculous when the republicans did it, but what's going on now is just scary.
Washington politicians right and left are headed in the same direction, one’s moving a little faster than the other. Washington needs it’s wings clipped, that’s our job starting in 2010.
way to go 2010 can't get here fast enough for this country ! can;t wait to vote all them out of office!
it's waisting our monies instead spending right way cash for clunker was a big joke of history

In addition to insuring them, we also go find them and enroll them. Then we drive them and their parents to the doctor, pay for their grocery shopping and sometimes deliver their meals in housing that we also provide.
Maybe a little harsh but I'm really mad about these entitlements that seem to do nothing but enable.
You know there is no way out of this under current circumstances. We are headed for financial collapse in this country, there is no doubt. Maybe that is just what we need. Ubfortunately, alot of people are going to suffer.
