Exactly How Much Taxpayer Money Went to ACORN?
by Chris MoodyAfter checking a few federal spending reports, economist Chris Edwards has revealed exactly how much money ACORN received over the past few years from taxpayers.
According to the database, taxpayers supported ACORN to the tune of more than $12.5 million from 2003 to 2007.
Edwards says cutting off ACORN is only the beginning:
ACORN’s share of overall federal subsidies is tiny, but as thousands of similar organizations have become hooked on 1,800 different federal subsidy programs, a powerful lobbying force has been created that propels the $3.6 trillion spending juggernaut. ACORN’s own website touts its lobbying success in helping to pass various big government programs. So cutting off ACORN is a start, but just a small start at the daunting task of cutting back the giant federal spending empire.
And just how are we going to cut back the “spending empire”? For starters, here’s a department-by-department guide to cutting the federal government’s budget.

Hard to say how much money went there. Surely it was quite a lot. Hookers aren't cheap, from what I hear.
Seriously, it is VERY important that we know how much went to these monsters and precisely who advocated their cause at the time.

It is likely a lot larger than 12 mil once city state funding is included. Yeah another tip of the iceberg. The more you take off the tip of an iceberg the more of the bottom becomes exposed. If you get lucky it will tip over and melt.
The problem is the tip by design is set to be resistant to being removed and whittled down.
We do though have to start somewhere.

Excellent point, and article. ACORN is the tip of the iceberg. Only one, among thousands of illigetimate organizations who use tax exwmpt status to skirt the laws and play outside the rules. The deck is stacked against average, everyday hardworking business people. The only way to end this, is to end it completely. Once we have cleaned house here, we need to look at the next financial fiasco: Government aid to all those foreign country's that hate US. Americans are generous people, yet we need to keep our money at home……….

The $12.5Mil is direct fed funding, How about the untold millions of tax deductable donations.
Our nation needs to take a hard look at all of these organizations and defund any that are not essential or not on the up n up.
I have a relevant question. It has been stated that only 40% of ACORNS funds come from the Federal Givernment, where do the remaining 60% come from? Soros, Buffett, Turner, Gates? I would be curious to know………
Every effort needs to be made to recover this money our Representatives misappropriated and it needs to be refunded directly to the tax payer.
And then the Statists in DC who are always condescending to us and telling us they can spend our money better then we can need to issue an apology because very few Americans would spend their money on funding brothels, crack houses and sending corrupt politicians to DC.

One of the beauties of BigGovernment.com is that it gives likeminded conservative types a chance to exchange ideas. As long as posts/links are pertinent, then I say, "bring 'em on!" And, as you pointed out, if someone doesn't like a post or what someone else is sharing here, they can just move along and let others make up their own mind.
It's a liberty thing. And at least most people here seem to not only get that, but enjoy it.

Every community needs a village idiot, I would personally like to thank you for volunteering.
Before any organization gets any taxpayer funds, it should be subject to a background check (including forensic accounting and a tax audit) so invasive that it falls just short of anal probing. That's not paranoia, that's good stewardship.
Diligence will bring success in the demise of OBAMACORN. The two bills, one from the senate and one from the house will need to go to reconcillation to merge and then to Chairman Obama for his signature. He could let it set on his desk to quietly expire (likely) or sign or veto(unlikely).
Should he veto or allow the bill to expire the house and senate will need to override his decision. THEN and only then will OBAMACORN be defunded from the $8.5 billion in the stimilus funding.
What about all the sister companies of Acorn and the SEIU should be investigated they smell too. There is so much corruption it is getting congress a bit nervous. We can do this get the corruption, accountability for our govt. what about all the stimulus money not used yet. What about the Federal Reserve, all this needs to be audited, none of this govt can be trusted, and I say put a BIG HALT to anymore earmaks, these people are going to have to earn their votes, no more buying votes, our WH is not for sale ANYMORE.
