Richard E. Neal (MA-2), Nancy Pelosi’s and Ireland’s Tax Man on the Hill
by Charles C. Johnson
The Beatles had it best when they sung about the Tax Man.
Now my advice for those who die (taxman)
Declare the pennies on your eyes (taxman) ‘Cause I’m the taxman,
Yeah, I’m the taxman. And you’re working for no one but me.
But Massachusetts’s residents in the second congressional district might be surprised to know that they are working for Congressman Richard E. Neal (MA-2) and that he, rather than working for them, is working for the Irish.
Unfortunately, before long, we’ll likely all be working for him, as Mr. Neal plans to seek the chairmanship of the Ways and Means Committee now that the ever corrupt and cantankerous, Charlie Rangel, has stepped down.
With Rangel gone, Neal seems the likely pick for Pelosi. According to The Washington Post’s database, Neal has voted with Nancy Pelosi’s 111th Democratic Congress 98.9 percent of the time, tying him for third place.
Unfortunately for Neal and fortunately for Republicans, this record ties him to one of the most liberal and profligate congresses in American history. At at time of recession, Neal wants to raise, not lower, taxes.
Neal’s big government record on taxes makes him the worst candidate possible for limited government conservatives. He supports the death tax, which is currently repealed, saying to The Wall Street Journal that “there is no question” that it will be restated in 2010.
At root though is just what those taxes will be spent on and here Neal hasn’t shown the best wisdom, especially after he defended the stimulus plan to a local paper,
“I voted for TARP (Troubled Asset Relief Program), and I think it was the right thing to do and a responsible position to undertake. The stimulus I voted for because the stimulus was done to create demand in the absence of demand. You forget that people were changing their patterns all at once. The stimulus was to substitute for a lack of demand in the private sector and to address many long-standing public initiatives.”
But that same article shows what Neal’s district spent the stimulus money on — twenty new transit vehicles for the Pioneer Valley Authority — hardly an essential expenditure with Massachusetts unemployment hovering around 10.4%. Neal also bragged about a $15.1 million “wastewater treatment plant, opening up in his district that a local state senator admits would generate only 65 jobs.
Neal was surprised by the vehemence against taxing health care plans in his district, according to The New York Times. He continued to defend Obamacare on February 12, but wants the health care bill to be debated in a much more piecemeal fashion. For conservatives, it’s likely death by a thousand cuts.
As St. Patrick’s Day rolls around, we’re all forgiven for thinking we are a little Irish. But Neal advocates exclusively for the Irish, not the people of the second congressional district. As chairman of the Friends of Ireland in the US House of Representatives, Neal did his best to encourage more American companies invest in Ireland.
“I have no doubt that American companies will find enormous opportunities in the northwest of Ireland. Similarly, our world-class universities in Massachusetts look forward to creating mutually beneficial alliances with the University of Ulster at Magee, Derry.”
Of course, most recently, he suggested a U.S. beer for President Obama at the beer summit, but apparently doesn’t want to keep U.S. jobs here, preferring to send them to Ireland instead. Indeed, U.S. Ambassador Thomas Foley told Business & Finance Magazine in 2007 confidently predicted that any change in U.S. tax policy would not affect Ireland?
The reason for [Foley's] confidence stems from a recent conversation between him and Congressman Richard E Neal, the head of the Ways and Means tax panel in the States, who assures Foley that the recommended changes in US tax legislation are not targeted at Ireland.
“We talked to him [Congressman Neal] and alerted him to the issue that we needed to make sure that if there was [change in] legislation then it didn’t inadvertently snag Ireland or US multinationals. We were assured that it would not happen and I can pretty reliably say that it will not affect Ireland,” says Foley.
Sometimes his love for Ireland clouds his judgment: he invited ex-terrorist Gerry Adams of Sinn Fein to the presidential inauguration of Barack Obama.
But what Neal fails to do is understand why Ireland has become the Celtic Tiger that it is: lower corporate taxes. Maybe his actual country, America, would do well to embrace the Irish model? Over 470 U.S. companies have set up shop in Ireland, in part thanks to its English speaking population and ultra low-corporate tax rate. Why won’t Neal follow the evidence?
Good tax man that he is, Neal isn’t in favor of just any tax havens – just ones that happen to share his ethnicity. He’s railed against lost tax revenues in Bermuda and he happens to think that Americans should pay still more in taxes, all but guaranteeing that more and more Americans will move their money overseas.
In the past ten years, Neal has hardly been a friend to the tax payers.
- He has voted no on reducing taxes on job-creating capital gains and dividends.
- He voted no on providing tax relief and simplifying the tax code.
- He voted no on increasing the child tax credit, making it harder on Massachusetts’s parents.
- He voted no on eliminating the marriage penalty, twice making it harder on Massachusetts’s married women.
- He voted no on making the Bush tax cuts permanent.
- He voted no on a $99 billion economic stimulus, cutting taxes and capital gains.
- He voted no on eliminating the death tax.
- He voted no on tax cuts for small businesses.
Fortunately, Congressman Richard E. Neal may be a congressman no longer. His district broke for Brown by some 56.9%. Residents in November have a chance to remind Mr. Neal that Bay State residents don’t revere tax collectors, they tar and feather them. Luckily it won’t come to that this November, because of at least one good Republican running.

Tax and spend…More tax's? Deem and pass!
Enough already STOP the madness!
Informative article.
It is ironic that Charlie Rangel stepped down temporarily.
The funny part of that is, he will get his Chairmanship back, just like Jimmy Hoffa got the Teamsters back after his pardon. It never happened. Charlie is history.
As far as Mr. neal is concerned, he needs to decide where his loyalties lie, with America, or with Ireland.
How did this guy ever graduate from elementary school? He sounds like a completely ignorant Stalinist. I'm surprised he advocates Ireland instead of Cuba!!!
Other than being St. Patricks day, today is another important day, a birthday. I am rather surprised Breitbart did not have a thread pertaining to it. It is James Madisons birthday.
In honor of James Madison’s birthday, March 16, 1751:
James Madison, often referred to as the “Father of the Constitution,” is considered one of America’s leading founding fathers. He was the principle author of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, wrote over a third of the Federalist Papers, and was the fourth president of the United States (1809-1817).
In 1798, he secretly co-authored, along with Thomas Jefferson, the Kentucky and Virginia Resolutions to protest the Alien and Sedition Acts. It was these resolutions where the principles of nullification and interposition first gained prominence in the American tradition.
the question begs to be asked…
How does one step down 'temporarily'? If we recall correctly nothing came of DeLay's prosecution. But he stepped down, didn't he? So if you are a liberal you never really disappear, do you?
Amazing…
Did Algore………………?
House Ways and Means,……..Charlie Rangel………….Richie Neal
Did it really matter who the name of the Kamakasi (sp) pilot was.
Lay siege to Washington DC!
Bring your sleeping bags, pup tents and bull horns and be prepared to occupy the capitol for a very long time!
This is for the all of the marbles people and if we fail to stand right now, freedom will fall forever!
The 2:00 minute warning has sounded and the clock is about to run out on freedom!
This message needs to go viral in 24 hours!
Spread it around to at least two friends or family members!
THIS TYRANNY MUST END AND THE TIME HAS COME TO SHUT DOWN DC!!!
Massachusetts can make this thing disappear too. The Bay Staters are on a roll.
At least taxes are voluntary.
Congressman Harry Reid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6q0slMhDw8
Ha. As a voter in Mr. Neal's district I would suggest that he not bother taking the Ways and Means chair position as he is not going to be our congressman much longer.
No, I guess not.
Especially since Captain Joseph Hazlewood is piloting the ship of state……….
Are you going to DC?
no- nor did Tammy Duckworth, or any number of libs who have been vetted as part of the NWO. It was a rhetorical question, of course…
Joe Hazlewood- good pull…
Heck, driving a 1,000 foot ship is easy. Any drunk can do it…
I know.
My humor couldn't resist.
Too many people fail to understand that in a world economy, raising taxes on the “evil rich corporations” does not bring more revenues to the government while sparing the middle class. Those taxes are initially passed on to the consumer through price raises, and eventually leads to corporations (and therefore, jobs) going overseas to places such as Ireland, where the tax rate is lower.
Great reference to "Tax Man"! Here's George playing it with Clapton:

your humor does run some- as the 'site administrator' is no doubt aware. But you gotta admit in a dark way this is all pretty funny…
If this puke voted with the bolshevik bitch Piglosi 99% of the time, then hes every bit as crooked as Charlie the Rang Ho.
I am just wretching at the thought that PELOSI will have HER way again….. this women IMHO is just as bad as OBLABLA if not WORSE…. damn, heel of a women….
By the way-if the “Slaughter solution” is used to “pass” Dr Kevorkian healthcare, then we need to descend on DC 5 million strong as take these fools out.
Cowbiy Logic-as far as Neal goes, he has no loyalties to either America or Ireland. His loyalties are to his communist/statist ideology. Like most other dumb o craps.
I have been fortunate here.
On a rare occassion I will get a post deleted. I have had problems posting at times, but that was apparently a technical glitch. It has been a rare occassion that I have been truly vulgar. Since September, I have used the f-bomb only twice, and once was today.
I have been here since day one, hour one; going back to September when Breitbart launched this site with the Acorn video. I do not know if it has become a hobby, or an idle pasttime, while I take care of other business.
I work hard, daylight to dark. Sometimes 20 hours a day, sometimes days at a time for six months, then sit on my butt for six months. They snow is about gone except in the higher elevations, the frost has come out of the ground, and the mud is drying up. It is just about time to say adios to y'all for the summer.
If I had a penny to my name I would spend it to be there or I would hitchhike to get there by Saturday if it were at all physically possible.
I'm begging those that can to please do so and share this message with everyone who's close because there won't be another chance to do it…
If we can pass this on to every person with relatives within 500 miles of DC by tomorrow the show of force should be impressive…
I have already called and spoken to or left messages for my friends and family in North Carolina and New Jersey, we need to get this message out quickly.
CL,
I’ll miss your political wit, wisdom and humor. It has been an education to follow your posts and will continue to do so until you head out on the trail. God bless and be safe.
you know, we have never been vulgar- not a trademark here- but still one can tread on the toes of the truly unfortunate and ruffle feathers unduly. That's when our posts get the 'treatment'. However, working hard is a joy- and you need to cater to your audience.
So you must at least weigh in once in a while…
Thanks.
I've enjoyed your input.
Yes.
As you can tell though, I was the one pulling the girls pigtails in school, and fighting in the schoolyard.
I love ruffling feathers.
Underneath it all though, this is deadly serious. The fate of our Republic, and our very way of life hang in the balance, by a thread. The future of my children, and grandchildren. That is why I have taken this so seriously.
If we all, as activists, individually could reach out to one person, and change one mind, collectively, we could not only change the world, we would "be days away from fundamentally changing the face of America as we know it."
Just as Martin Luther King and Borat Hussein Obama had a dream, so do I.
Yep.
…….and to the Greenback Dollar. That is what is most Irish about him.
There is a great candidate named Tom Wesley who's running. http://www.tomwesley.com – check him out.
New blood in D.C. not blood in the street's of D.C.. We can't use the Progressive approach in defeating the Progressives. If we embrace the "END JUSTIFIES THE MEANS" method of running these Social/Economic justice types out of D.C. then we have become them! THE CHOSEN ONE and his toadies would love a violent protest by Conservatives in D.C. Don't give them the emergency they are looking for. Vote for new Local, State and Federal officials every chance you get. Organize your community on things that make sence "DON'T FORGET" between elections and stick to simple principles that a large group can support. Don't let the Progressives set your agenda by implying things about you or your group. The one who starts shouting first is the first one out of ideas! Don't be first! make your point and be ready to defend it calmly and logically, Progressive thought can't get past the "FACT" that they are smarter and know better than you do. Beat them at their own game and do it in front of the media.

a dream, friend- not a nightmare!
Gee, Congressman Neal from Massachusetts, no less, encourages American multinational corporations to set up business in Ireland! How dare he! How corrupt! Imagine a *multinational* corporation having outlets in, er, multiple international locations. It couldn't possibly be that Ireland is part of the EU and has a highly educated English-speaking workforce. No! A thousand times no! It's filthy "ethnicity", that's what it is. Multinationals are moving to Ireland simply on the basis of Richard Neal's sentimental attachment to the "oul' sod", nothing more. Oh, those CEOs are just suckers for ethnic solidarity and nostalgia. The mere mention of the Famine and they're off opening another European headquarters in the wilds of Leitrim without a thought for the bottom line.
As for lobbying on behalf of Ireland in Washington. Lobbying. In. Washington. I don't believe it. We must nip this pernicious practice in the bud, I say. It has obviously started with the Irish and it must finish with them. The threat they pose to American interests, militarily, geopolitically, economically, cannot be overstated. They are and always have been inveterate foes of the US. Now China, Germany, Russia, they're traditional friends of America, too small and weak and benign to pose any danger. Let the US multinationals flourish there without adverse comment. We must husband our ammunition for the Emerald Enemy alone.
And, yes, Gerry Adams is an elected member of the Legislative Assembly in Northern Ireland. And, yes, he is leader of the second largest party in that Assembly. And, yes, his colleague, Martin Maginess, serves as Deputy First Minister in the cabinet appointed by that Assembly. And, yes, he is an "ex-terrorist". And, yes, so were Menachem Begin and Yitzhak Rabin, former Prime Ministers of Israel who were received with honor by several American Presidents, as indeed was Adams.
Perhaps Charles C. Johnson's objection to the Congressman's invitation to Mr. Adams is based on the hostility to their shared "ethnicity" to which he gives vent throughout his article? No, that can't be. He demonstrated absolutely that Neal "rather than working for [his constituents], is working for the Irish". He interacted with multinationals, he ensured Ireland was not adversely affected by tax legislation, he invited Gerry Adams to something or other.
Obviously these activities took up all of the 21 years he has hitherto served in Congress. Not a minute to spare in those two decades for the concerns of the citizens he represents, all that time, month in month out, year in, year out, all day, every day beavering away on behalf of his Hibernian cronies across the sea. All those town halls in Springfield every Congressional vacation solemnly discussing the Headage Scheme as it affected the sheep farmers of the Iveragh Peninsula in Kerry. Not to mention the traffic problems posed by the Connemara Road-Widening Project. And the controversial Burren Heritage Centre in Co. Clare. Don't get me started.
These concerns, we must presume, also struck a chord with the voters of the 2nd District as they have re-elected Congressman Neal ten times to date.

Representative John Hall
US House of Representatives
March 17, 2010
Dear Mr. Hall,
Well it comes to you. One man, one vote, the nation’s future on the line. I bet when you were doing drugs and singing “Your the One” for the one thousandth time you never thought you would end up in having to make this choice. Before you do please give me one moment of your time.
In the old days, prior to government intervention in the medical establishment, the “wealthy” paid higher prices at the doctors office to support the needy. My father would tell the story like this. A patient would drive up to a doctors office in a Cadillac and the doctor would treat him, and the doctor would give him a higher bill than he would give to other patients, sometimes a much higher bill. The doctor then would use that money to treat people in the community that needed assistance. As time went on the government put it’s nose into this practice and took the place of the doctors and the hospitals who engaged in this. The government entitlement programs began to divorce a doctors capability to obtain the funds to carry out charity work, and thus while the cost was leveled out the creation of a third party to pay and to dole out charity destroyed the capacity to self regulate or to engage in ones own community in a positive and very efficient manner.
Fast forward to today. I pay a monthly premium for my medical insurance. Even if I do not use the resources for decades, other than checkups and the like, I gain nothing from behaving wisely. Why? Because as much as the insurance company wants to create products that keep prices low, so they can cover more people and make a higher profit for the company, the government is telling these companies who to sell to, how much coverage is required, even the deductibles are dictated. In this manufactured environment of unlimited capacity and fixed supply, price must rise inexorably to meet the consumption of the goods and services offered, in this case medicine.
So what is the answer Mr. Hall? First you ought to vote no on this proposed legislation that would place the government in further control of what is left of the private healthcare industry. Second, you should get back to work creating a piece of legislation that unlocks the free markets power to drive down costs, and create supply and innovation that it has to a higher degree in this country than all others combined. Finally, please contemplate the concept of privacy. I know in this day and age people seem willing to abandon their anonymity and the freedom that that begets to ones soul, but they are misguided. I cannot conceive as anything more personal to ones life then the medical care they have or will receive – I do not want my care or the care of my family to become the purview of some bureaucrat in Washington D.C. I want my families care to remain between us and our doctors and nurses.
In closing, I am firmly aware, as you should be, that you are part of an institution whose record is not good. In the hundred or so odd Congress’s what does the Country have to show for your efforts? Trillions in debt and deficits. Blind monkeys who randomly hit they “yea” or “nay” button could have done a better job. But it is now up to you. Will you vote yes and commit this nation to bankruptcy, or will you vote no and then get right back to work crafting a solution to this mess?
Respectfully,
Richard Neal is my rep.
Don't worry folks. At best, he has one more term left in him. He faces his first challenge in awhile from three competent opponents. Even surviving reelection, MA is slated to lose another district after the census, and the MA delegation has already started the music and rearranging the chairs. The infighting will be something to see, and Neal's less stable western MA district most likely to be divvied up.
Hence, the possible ground laying for a potential Irish ambassadorship on the part of Neal.
Hey Cowboy, I know you will come back and read this. So I gotta say be good up there, if I get a chance to get up that way I"ll look you up.
I'm heading to Arizona first though, gonna learn a new trade, if I come up I'll be on a iron horse, cuz that's what I do. My family is kind of spread out so I plan on doing some traveling in my old age!! HaHaHa Take care, It's been a pleasure!!!

Obama as "the taxman"
Ulster and Derry are in the UK and are not part of the Celtic Tiger.
They are subject to British Corporation tax rates, which are much higher than The Republic of Ireland.

As a student, I always wanted to donate to charity, but I never had enough money. Now, with all of these global problems like the economic crisis occuring, it’s even harder.
I made the solution, which is you just complete 1 survey, and with the money you make from that, I will donate it all to UNICEF. Please just do ONE GREAT THING, and DONATE FOR FREE!

Neal faces a strong challenge in the Hampden 2nd for the first time in decades – there are two candidates for the Republican Primary against Neal – Dr. Jay Fleitman (http://www.jayfleitman.com/page/4/about-jay) and Tom Wesley (http://www.tomwesley.com/about)
– in general there is an atmosphere on the ground (so to speak) that endangers entrenched politicians in several districts in Massachusetts (although outside of the Commonwealth, it is disregarded, as much as the Brown-Coakley race was.) When Massachusetts is fed up, that's telling. Brown, additionally, was the tip of the iceberg, as candidates for congressional and state offices began to emerge prior to the special Senate Election – to a degree not seen in the Commonwealth longer than I can recall. My p.o.v. – any support to Massachusetts Congressional candidates is not a waste – of time and or money – rather an investment in the nation.
