Of Greek Columns and Green Jobs
by Christopher C. HornerThe ultimate in Obama’s Big Government schemes that still await us is the “global warming” agenda, a necessary component of which is the “green jobs” boondoggle. “Green jobs” is certain to be a central part of the Senate’s stab at cramming down “cap-and-trade”, commencing with introduction of the Kerry-Graham-Lieberman legislation now moved back to a week from tomorrow (to divorce itself from the originally intended association with the loopiness of Earth Day).

Deconstructing the Big Lie of “Green Jobs” is the focus of a key chapter in my new book just out today, “Power Grab: How Obama’s Green Policies Will Steal Your Freedom and Bankrupt America.” Go grab it.
Legislating “green jobs” programs means incurring massive debt to pay for make-work as part of a campaign mandating enormous inefficiencies on the economy. It therefore also ultimately means concomitant taxes. It kills real jobs in a trade off for far fewer temporary jobs, largely make-work and at enormous per-job subsidies. This creates a “bubble” that must be constantly pumped full of taxpayer cash simply to maintain it, also ensuring a bust to go with any putative boom.
Read the below excerpt from Power Grab expanding a bit on this appealing sounding (“jobs”!) sales pitch for statutorily mandating enormous inefficiencies on the economy — heck, read the whole book — and you will have a substantially better idea why Barack Obama surrounded himself with Greek columns at his DNC coronation in Denver. That’s the sort of debt we’re talking about. The fella’s prescient, I’ll give him that much. Now, from Power Grab Chapter 5, “Green Jobs and Scam: The Wholesale Fraud of ‘Green Jobs’”:
Consider the Center for American Progress’s (CAP) Andrew Light, whom I will use as our green guinea pig for these purposes, having by chance viewed him repeating his movement’s vacuous catch-phrases to Fox News late in Obama’s first year in office while I was pulling material together for this book. There he stammered, either naively or disingenuously, “you, sort of, if we’re gonna move the world towards a fundamentally new suite of mechanisms for creating energy, that’s, you need people to do that and that, that’s how you make, you’re gonna create jobs.”
Is it possible that the greens actually think that that is the sum total of these mandates’ impacts?
Of course not. These people are ideologues, not complete idiots (even if they seem to think you are). If mandating things is beneficial to employment and the economy, why stop at adding these new great ideas? Let’s mandate many, many more things in the name of global warming. If we wanted to “move” the world onto (feel free to say force, or otherwise use the full weight of government to coerce), say, a vegan diet and stop all of that destructive bovine flatulence, why, that would create jobs making tofu and selling it in vegan food stores, too. Same is true for rickshaws instead of automobiles, both of which are logical extensions of the “green jobs” case. We’d be the richest country in the world, if only we could get beyond old ways of thinking and our resistance to success. There are no downsides at all to this free lunch, and all it will produce is jobs, jobs, jobs.
Readers over the age of thirty may recall that this sort of ministration of the economy by our superiors has been tried in East Germany, and worked so well they had to build a wall to keep all the millionaires in.
Further, this philosophy is absurd on its face given that it tells us that Hurricane Katrina, the Chicago Fire, and other horribles global warming is supposed to bring more of, are actually good for the economy. …
Then there’s the free-lunch fallacy on which “green jobs” depends and which our policy sages ignore. After in effect mandating the destruction of windows in order to replace them, everyone is left with a full window pane if lighter in the wallet, liberated from the confiscated wealth they would have put to productive uses. But, that wealth was transferred to the Burgemeister’s glazier brother in law, in whose faltering alternative-window business the town’s former vice president heavily invested before running around warning townspeople about the horrors of old windows causing hellfire to be rained down on the village. Which, under this theory of economics, would actually be beneficial.
“Green jobs” legislation would be the ultimate cash for clunkers program, except that cash for clunkers applied to automobiles simply moved September’s likely vehicle purchases up to August without actually creating new demand. Green jobs programs do create new demand, if via mandates, for that which otherwise is not demanded (hence the mandate). Therefore, this involves moving forward purchases not of what would be purchased later, but what was unlikely to ever be purchased. Imagine not incentivizing car purchases, but mandating them—for the Amish.
So, there’s a feel for Power Grab. Upset Team Obama and rush out and grab one at your local retailer today, or get it online at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or Borders.

I like Beck's analogy for green jobs- watermellons, green on the outside, but communist red on the inside! Why do we have so many people who hate the free market? Get government out of the way and let the efficiency of the free market chart the way forward!
Remember; those Greek columns were made of engineered styrofoam. About as real as Obama.
If "green" was in any way valuable beyond perception, hotels marketing to guests that they do no plan to wash the towels in your room until they're really really dirty… saving the planet and all would be all their is to it. Hey, a double cross! That is all there is to it.
Markets would demand green if it was smart and doable. So far, they have not. Now, our dear leader plans to create the green market by artificially driving hydrocarbon prices off the charts with cap n tax. Since that will necessarily result in the cessation of most economic activity, then we will do the right thing for people: government green jobs for all! In other words, communism. Time for hippies to go away.
Look to Spain and what happened after they passed Cap and Trade. For every green job created, two were lost. Does Obama really think Union labor can build solar panels cheaper than workers in another country?
Look no further than Spain, Patriots. The stat that pops out is that for eveery "Green Job" created, (or saved in the infamous words of our Dear Leader), 2 private sector jobs are lost. Spain has one of, if not the most, unemployment rates in that farce known as the EU…..shameful!!
The idiots are not really creating green jobs. Stupid people like Vab Jones said they awere just around the corner. In the U.K. they are protesting and begging for green jobs.
Vestas, is laying off in Colorado wind turbine factory workers. The chinese have now about 40 companies in blades and turbine manufacturing. Vestas claims 4 factories in Colorado. One has most on layoff first half of this year. They re crying for both more subsidies and mandates. To survive, they need states to mandate a certain part of electric come from wind turbines. It triples the cost.
Where are the jobs? If we rehired the net 3.7 million laid off under Obama, some of those jobs would create more demand for energy and some of that for "green" energy jobs.
To lie, spin and look good.
A green job, also called a green-collar job is, according to the United Nations Environment Program, "work in agricultural, manufacturing, research and development (R&D), administrative, and service activities that contribute(s) substantially to preserving or restoring environmental quality. Specifically, but not exclusively,
So farmers now are green jobs. If they let irrigation water flow in California, it will create green jobs. Veggie fields and crops will come back and The self annopinted can claim green job growth.
Now the biggest sector of green jobs is uneducated idiots that visit homes for inspections. Everything from caulking opportunitys to grading of appliances and lawn sprinklers.
Like child protective services don't raise kids. They just create havoc fopr parents that are doing their best.
Home inspectors won't help save energy. They will just condem homes that are not loyal to GE appliances.
You can do a lot of winterizing for the expense of a single mandated home inspection.
I got your green job…
We've shed 8 million jobs in the past two years. A green job looks as good as any right now.
Renewable Energy Has Created 90,000 Green Collar Jobs in Colorado
By Timothy B. Hurst on October 27, 2008
Speaking in Denver, Colorado Governor Bill Ritter said preliminary figures from a new report show that renewable energy has generated about 90,000 jobs directly and indirectly in Colorado.
Addressing attendees of the second annual Colorado New Energy Economy Conference, Ritter said that Jefferson County alone has about 500 renewable energy companies. The Governor cited the wind [...]
Chris, Look into these lies. There are at most 2-3,000 green jobs in Colorado. Farming doesn't count. It was around before the Hemisphere was on the map. This was all hype to feed the Democrat convention in Debver.
There have been gas wells for a long time in Colorado. Some of the spurt is not for natural gas back up generation for wind but the fact that a pipeline was opened to take gas from the Rockies to the eastern markets and not just to the west coast.
Take down the teleprompters and put wind turbines in their place. The windbag in chief could supply at least a gazillion gigawatts.
earth day is april 22. that is also lenin's birthday.
earth day had its genesis with ira einhorn, a counterculture icon of the 1970s. he was master of ceremonies for the very first earth day in 1970. einhorn murdered his girlfriend in 1977 and stuffed her body in a trunk in his apartment. when arrested, he claimed the FBI and CIA had framed him for his political views. a parade of ivy league professors attested to his good character. arlen specter was his attorney and barbara bronfman, heir to the seagrams fortune, paid his bail. he fled to france to avoid trial. he was extradited in 2001 and convicted in 2002.
who wants to celebrate earth day?
Never forget, and the communist leaders of the "green movement" won't, the only true green job is that of an undertaker.
And the only true 'renewable energy source" is slavery.
Aaaahhh, green jobs. Such a romanticized idea of a job market, we merely get in the' time machine'
to go back 100 years. We'll do all the farm work by hand, or with the assistance of mules & oxen. It
certainly will create jobs, not exactly the jobs people now days want, but hey, if you're hungry you'll do
pretty much whatever you must do to eat.
So here I sit with a few thousand acres of prime farmland, waiting for the Gvt to tell me I can no longer
raise the crops I wish to grow, no I will no longer be allowed to raise enough food for 100 people as I
have for the past several years. My farm land will be mandated to go back into prairie grasses, as it
was in 1896 when my Grandfather homesteaded it. My grandchildren will not be allowed to live the pros-
perous lives that I & my parents & children have squeezed from this land.
Don't EVER think I will shrink from fighting for my life's work to continue for the prosperity of my grand-
children. I did not work as hard as I have, & take this much risk for fun. I will not go quietly.
And about as strong as his policies….cause they are gonna come down in November!
They will be the ones exiting cornpone…..and soon!
This is Obama's great plan. Re-build this country on styrofoam columns. Tell me. How did that work for Haiti?
It didn't and Obamao's Styrofoam columns are going to have fuel thrown on them after the elections….and when fuel touches Styrofoam….well it melts and the beautiful facade that they have tried to put in place will be melting and torn down…..I cannot wait!
Sounds good there Mickey,…….but,………..
just what is a,………. "GREEN JOB",………..???? if you please.
The natural order of Man's evolution has created every meaningful job since the Stone Age.
Now, however, we are going to create the jobs for our 21st century economies based on,……
"scientific consensus" findings that,………
are as solid as the Denver columns.
6 months, brother or sister, and they will hear from all of us. We have had enough.

Go green. Go broke.
What the h**l is a green job? All I hear is "wind and solar," and "solar and wind." Do these idiots pushing "green jobs" even know what they are talking about?
Sista!

This is all based on the myth of man made global warming. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link.
This whole Green movement has been about power and control from the beginning. And to think it was all started by the dude who invented Earth Day years ago. Gee and what happened to his girlfriend again?
Whats ironic about "wind and solar" being "green jobs", is that they are no green to produce than say a coal plant or building cars on an assembly line. As for what a green job really is, no body really knows and even most people who support them dont really know either. As for green energy, no such thing exist. Since every energy source has some sort of down side, it is that both coal and nuclear are the best due to price to power ratio and are far more reliable than wind and solar which are based on random settings and low power output.
As we know, the whole green movement goes futher than that. Its nothing more than power grabbing and redistrabution of wealth and energy. When the goverenment is able to control energy, say hello to America as a 3rd world country.
Thank you, Georgia, for answering my question. You make a lot of sense, especially about coal and nuclear. Unfortunatly, the green movement is to be used as just another tool take power and money from people. It COULD be used for the betterment of people, not make their lives miserable!
I dont know how long it will take, but the gov't will have to realize they will run out of money after they take everbodys money. We have already seen the result of that from other countries.
Gotta say, the further I look into and read about this fraud the green movement is, the sicker I get and how shameless these progressive politicians are.
It could be used for the betterment of people, but it wont. The only time people will be better is when the governent gets its fat ass out of the way and those grubby hands away from our money to.
What more can I say, this green movement is making me nausious and I want this green stupidity end before our country become a 3rd world hellhole like Cuba.
Sorry there, couldnt hold back on my frustration about this movement.

you got that right. pay somebody to ask him a simple question every 17 minutes and we'll have as close to a perpetual motion machine as the laws of physics allow…
Green Energy: It's not about generating power, it's about exercising power.
