ClimateGate: Maybe Models Really Are Dumb
by Christopher C. HornerYou may have seen the Washington Times’ lead story reporting that, when Obama’s Department of Agriculture computer model assessments of cap-and-trade’s impact revealed that it would encourage farmers to plant trees for carbon credits instead of food, the administration told the modelers to change the assumptions to get a different result. You see, this would drive the cost of food even higher still — a very regressive tax, hitting seniors and the poor first and worst — as would the other hits brought about by cap-and-trade energy rationing making your energy prices “necessarily skyrocket”, and the spike in fertilizer costs from massive fuel-switching from coal to the necessary feedstock natural gas. Big problem, this modeling of the bill’s impact.

So the administration rushed to tell us there were problems with the models, wrong assumptions, etc. The modelers, without the intervention of politicians, had gotten it wrong, you see. But now that the pols have told them what to do, why, all will be well.
This episode is reminiscent of the well-known problem with “climate” computer models, though the climate models are even worse. And the response to their deficiencies has been very different.
General circulation models are not useful anywhere there are large bodies of water or mountains nearby — which is most of the earth’s surface — and cannot adequately account for the sun, clouds or the oceans — major climate drivers all. Among other deficiencies.
And yet, when it comes to their computer models being so wrong that they tell us it has continued to warm even as we experience observed cooling, they tell us there must be something wrong with the observations — the old “me or yer old lyin’ eyes” argument — because the models must be respected (tampering with the assumptions would, here too, produce another result, and they can’t have that).
But of course, everyone knows that models predicting the weather are very reliable. Trillion-dollar-policy reliable, apparently.

who created this climate crap in the first place.. who funded these fools to come up with this non sense. When you throw money to find a problem it always takes money to fix it. No surprise some crook found out how to make big bucks off the taxpayers back.. both government parties created this mess.
Someone else said it, but I repeat it here:
Weathermen can't predict what's going to happen 2 weeks into the future. We expect them to predict 2 years in the future? 20 years in the future?
Snake oil that's all I am saying
France just nixed their carbon tax crapulence. ANOTHER slap in Al Gorebuncle's fat face.
Climate change = hoax.

whether it's the climate, or confiscatory taxes, or gun control, or UN dominance through the W.H.O., all roads pretty much lead to Rome, as the saying goes. Like the Cloward/Piven strategy, just overload the populace with so much they can't follow ALL the bouncing balls.
It's why being a politician now is SO unrewarding, not to mention short lived- as they will soon find out…
It was Al! He invented the internet you know! ~
How dare anyone challenge Climate Hysteria?
LMAO
Democrats have had complete control of Congress for the last three years.
Look at what they accomplished with the economy during that time.
They'll be equally "effective" with the climate and health care, given the opportunity.
Our local tourists weathermen always predict blue skies and 80 degrees. Every once in a while they are actually right.
lmao….the king greenie.
"who created this climate crap in the first place". many places to look but one of the first was maurice strong..looking further tim ball at cfp has articles about the origination of the green movement
Science 101: If your trying to prove something and the test results keep coming up contrary to what you want, you keep chaning the test until it comes out the way you want it. Same thing with statistics, you don't like what they say, you change the criteria.

I will be serious now. My husband's opinion is it started with Margaret Mead. My husband was a Anthropology Major in the 70's and she was the darling of the time.

In the 70's environmentalist were warning about an upcoming mini ice-age. Spent lots of money encouraging people to better insulate their houses, making big plans to deal with the loss of agriculture, etc… Seems that didn't pan out either. It's a way for scientist to wave a warning flag, then get lots of government money to do research. It always comes back to money!
Here is a great article. Be sure to read the PDF file at the bottom.

thanks for the info.. I was just being mean to the fly by greenies and also to turn this climate crap into a debate about the party system. for it all began with someone needing government funds to study something. so a party member found a way to give them the money.
If you have a model to check the accuracy of a clock to keep time and the results are disappointing, change the model to look at the clock every twelve hours.
They have issued:
>> A flash flood watch through this afternoon for Kahoolawe, Lanai, Maui, Molokai, Oahu and the Big Island;
>> A winter weather advisory for the summits of Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea until 6 p.m. Up to 5 inches of snow are possible today.
The cooling followed Obama. Weather doesn't obey AGW models.
Enron, K Lay, James Hansen etc brainstormed 4 greenhouse gases and a taxing and carbon trading scheme.
Yes, this is very interesting. There is serious evidence that all the planets in our solar system are experiencing a mild increase in temperature. In addition, the Mt. St. Helens explosion put more CO2 into the atmosphere than all of man's contribution from the beginning of time.
Finally, Al Gore must not take the problem too seriously himself. His home energy consumption from crude is over $30,000 annually. Travolta with his five jets does not add strength to his environmental message, and, of course, President Obama has the largest CO2 footprint on the planet.
Hard to tell the guy with a 1200 square foot home in Poughkeepsie to turn his thermometer down. But, these guys do it.
That doesn't mean that overfishing or trashing the reefs isn't a problem. What it means is that the "global warming" crisis is a phony one. We need to stop producing so many human beings, and cease dropping landfill barges of waste into the sea. That has nothing to do with warming.
What is it they say? Figures don't lie but liars figure!
Artificial intelligence does not create these model; natural stupidity does.

MAYBE, JUST MAYBE, THE AVERAGE AMERICAN ISN'T QUITE AS SMART AS WE GIVE THEM CREDIT FOR!
All are great responses, but there is nothing that we can do about Flyover' Country's "Liars figure!" Why?
Then, we could not have politicians!
What's the point of planting trees? Trees (and all other plants) need good ol' C-O-2 for growth. As a matter of fact, the more CO2 they get, the better they grow.
Wouldn't it make more sense to ADD CO2 to the atmosphere since all plants, especially those we EAT, would grow better, bigger, and produce more fruit/seeds (food)?
So, how are they gonna grow when all the CO2 has been outlawed?
Libs never let facts get in the way of ideology.
Yep, even a defective clock is right twice a day.
Climate change? Global Warming? C'mon; yor're pulling my leg. Better yet; pull my finger.
follow the money is always the right answer.
When you're a pattern maker, a bum model will screw you every time. They'll just have to blend in a few offsets, and all will be right with the world. I'm not sure wht we'll do with our time once they've solved all the earth's problems.
But the 'system' works in helping to spread the wealth around a little bit.

Most important rule of scientific analysis:
GARBAGE IN, GARBAGE OUT.
Very funny! Thanks for laugh.
We paid money to these idiots in Obama's Dept. of Ag to tell us we need to plant trees instead of crops? Aren't crops plants? Don't all plants convert CO2 into oxygen? Why are these idiots in the Dept. of Ag studing the effects of trees on the environment? Shouldn't they be studying how to improve crop yield or how to better raise more livestock? All these "watermelons" in the Obama administartion want us to stop eating meat, want most of us inferiors to starve thus reducing man's CO2 output, want to make farming and hunting illegal, want to steal money from the productive and give it to the freeloaders, and want America to be a second rate banana republic. Pay close attention to what these morons do, it is all about restricting our freedom and liberty, and redistributing our wealth, it is never about free markets and American exceptionalism!
Follow the money for the motivation behind it, follow the data for the proof of fraud or complete incompetence of those involved.
If you used quicken to produce any kind of financial statements the results would be only be as correct as the deposit and debit information you fed it, models have no way of determining the veracity of the data (or the rules of its own logic for that matter)
Scientists? They might as well be witch doctors throwing bones in my opinion.
Which ironically is one of the lies Al G was caught in at Carbonhoggin, claiming that the greenbelt was shrinking (all problems are caused by AGW, which was caused by Bush)
Laughably that was the week that NASA comes out and says, "The green belt has increased by a fairly large percentage of the last decade or two".
Someone probably got spanked hard at NASA for letting that out of the bag, timing was fantastic thought.
The administrations response to all the debunked Carbonhoggin crap will probably be to appoint a new CAGW Information CZar to protect us from those violent right wing facts.
Predicting the weather?
I don't need a weatherman, to tell me when some crooked politician is pissing down my leg, and telling me it is raining.
it's not called the 'green' movement for nothin'…

Succinctly put, and funny…
NOOOO!!!!!! Methane is an even more powerful greenhouse gas!
well I am broke. the states are broke. and fed is bankrupting all of us. I think we need to call it red ink movement.
POWER TO THE WATERMELONS!!
Priceless! Gotta go get ready to shovel some more climate change in the morning.
just put up more photos of models and I will be happy.
Go Green!!!!! Go Gold!!!!!! Go Green Bay Packers to the Super Bowl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It began far earlier than the 1970s; Erlich was already quite famous, in 1968, when he published "THE POPULATION BOMB", which also talked about GLOBAL COOLING.
Slightly earlier than that, Tiny Tim sang a song with the worlds: "THE ICE CAPS ARE MELTING", in it, that was first popular in the 1920s, IIRC.
Then there's always Malthus, who did also talk about population and "climate" in the late 18th – early 19th century.
The best way to cut population growth down, is to allow people to become wealthy. It's the only PROVEN method apart from mass slaghter.
A frequently observed phenomenon ; commonly referred to as <a href="http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Gore+Effect">The Gore Effect
Did you read the PDF file on the bottom of the first article? I should have posted this link separately but didn't realize I could because I had received it as an email.
http://www.21stcenturysciencetech.com/Articles%20...
It talks more in depth on Erlich, Mead and Holdren.
A frequently observed phenomena ; commonly referred to as The Gore Effect.
Example: New York, March 2004: "Gore chose January 15, 2004, one of the coldest days in New York City's history, to rail against the Bush administration and global warming skeptics … Global warming, Gore told a startled audience, is causing record cold temperatures." (NY Environment News)
To err is human.
To really screw things up, you need a computer …
Oh thanks……………I somehow missed seeing that.
So much to read and so little time….
How very true, especially for those of us who read more than just this and its affiliated other sites.
Attention DC: THE JIG IS UP! We are on to your scams. Here's an idea: Stop making up problems to through our money at and start fixing the real ones. If not, we will be happy to replace you in a few months.
I'm sure that soon, it will be a "real" syndrome that you can get out of work and collect a government check for….
Gotta do something about all those useless eaters, right Mr. Kissinger?
Re: Climate Exchange, started with donation of $1M+ from Wood Foundation. Richard Sandor, father of Deriviative and Futures market, design the cap and tax scheme.
Hell yes I know! I'm trying to make a point. Co2 indeed!
Don't you know methane is an even worse greenhouse gas than CO2?
In watching the movie Sherlock Holmes you could substitute the 'global warming' fear into the plot and realise what is going on behind the scenes of this new 'religion' called global warming/climate change. It is a perfect illustration of the underlying plan for power and world domination using fear to control people. I took great delight at seeing flooding rains over Uluru this week, the rock in central Australia and flooding in large parts of New South Wales. The world is in a constant state of flux and in Australia we are known as the land of 'droughts and flooding rains', there is nothing new under the sun. Mankind thinks he is so smart that he can even control the climate – give me a break! The cries of 'the sky is falling and we are all going to die!' need to be stopped by good old common sense! It is all a con job to control us and strip us of our money!
Sounds like Dan Rather all over again:
"Even though the documents were fake, I know they're true!"
Whatever happened to science being objective? In fact, that's their claim to fame over religion, that as scientists they don't have a desired outcome or objective, they just observe nature and tell us what they see.
Mainstream science has now become a religion, a tool for "re-educating" the rest of the world, a way to correct our misguided belief in God.
It really is scary that such a tiny minority of liberal elites are shaping the agenda for the rest of us.
Humm I didn't learn that in Science, I learned if you do a test 3 times and you get the samre results it must be fact..But I don't think they teach that in liberal College anymore
Planting trees instead of food? A little government-sponsored starvation down the line folks?
