You Say Copenhagen, I Say Kyoto…
by Christopher C. HornerWe will call the whole thing off.

Although the media altered the story line beginning in March 2001, the inescapable fact is that the Clinton administration doomed the Kyoto treaty by agreeing to something for which there was insufficient will in Congress. Clinton thereby put our name and political prestige on the line recklessly, hoping to pressure Congress, but leading to eight years of (largely either uninformed or simply disingenuous) harping about the wretchedness of George W. Bush refusing to follow through on Clinton’s political commitment.
By this and according to none other than candidate Barack Obama, our national name was tarnished. He vowed to restore it. He has not only failed but made things worse, though we should remain thankful for small favors such as this.
On its face the Euro-driven narrative was absurd because it was up to the Senate, not a president, to ratify a signed agreement (we signed Kyoto November 12, 1998) just as it is up to Congress, not Obama, to enroll legislation meeting the promise of emission reduction he just made, in our name, in Copenhagen.
As such, Obama has just repeated Clinton’s misstep with Kyoto.
Read the following excerpt, in pertinent part, from Samuel Thernstrom’s recent recapitulation of the sordid Kyoto affair (emphases added but the very useful links are in the original):
Having promised to lead the Copenhagen negotiations to a successful conclusion, Obama now finds himself in a bind: Unable to get a bill through Congress, he doesn’t want to repeat Gore’s mistake of letting Europeans pressure him into signing a treaty the Senate won’t ratify while sanctioning unrestricted emissions from the developing world. … So the administration’s draft implementing agreement submitted to the UN in May specified that emissions reductions would be subject to “conformity with domestic law.” In other words, whatever is agreed to here doesn’t mean a thing if the Senate doesn’t agree. As Jonathan Pershing, a top State Department negotiator, remarked at the recent climate negotiators’ meeting in Bangkok. “We are not going to be part of an agreement we cannot meet.”
Except that — although yesterday’s political commitment was unable to rise to the level of something the Senate would have to ratify, yet — the Senate clearly cannot and will not adopt such economy-killing cuts that it promised. Not that we don’t want them to try next year — heck, I’ve got a book coming out exposing the whole sleazy lie — which would allow for the much-needed salting of the political ground.
But the take-away from Kyopenhagen, what makes this absurd theater just engaged in all the more unforgivable, is that Obama’s administration had for months vowed how it learned that lesson and would not repeat it. Until they did.

"the Senate clearly cannot and will not adopt such economy-killing __________"
uh, i'm starting to lose faith in the senate when it comes to that sort of responsible behavior. hello? healthcare? cap & trade?….
I am thankful for this. We will all have a GREAT Christmas if only Healthcare would die now. Silly Berry yet another mistake. Funny how even tho it was a flop he still called it a "break through". Don't look at what's in this other hand. Look over here at this lie.
The Left-nutters will be ever so much happier when we lose our national sovereignty to the UN. Then, these pesky little details such as advice and consent of the U.S. Senate won't be nearly so bothersome.
And I hope we're properly grateful to the third world, for cutting us some slack in the early years of the Hopenchangen agreement. Y'know, their original demands were $100B per year, right off the bat. But, like the good guys they are (pure of heart, etc., etc.) they decided we could start out at $30B and work our way up to the $100B number in 2020. I'm tellin' ya, no wonder the third-worlders are known for generosity and nobility.
2010 can't get here soon enough to suit me. I swear, if I'm driving around town on election day, and see a Democrat bumper sticker, I'm gonna ram the car displaying it, thereby preventing another suicide voter from exercising his/her Constitutional right to enslave me further.
Mr. Horner, you are incorrigible. We thank you heartily for it!
You also better be driving GOP voters to the polls and being a poll watcher, to prevent the FRAUD that is going to be rampant.
I am not normally prone to swearing and threats of violence, but DAMN these fools.
Oh what invented truths we weave,
When we conspire to deceive ..
Al Gore, Poet
If it's true about Soros bribing Sec of States. Watch them too.
Better to stick a conservative bumber sticker on the car, and let the lefties do the actual damage.
Soros also funded McCain. It's what brought us the McCain-Feingold debacle. Only Soros could think up something like that bill. I hope he refuses Sarah Palin's offer of assistance to help him get reelected. She really doesn't know him very well. Yes, he's spoken up recently about a few things but he's still a RINO. There are also more than a few RINO's who padded their wallets. We do have some good decent principled Conservatives, the rest may as well go over to the Commie side for all the good they do us.
Chris, how's that FOIA request going with NASA? Funny isn't it, that the discussion about the "Climategate" scam by the eco-Marxists (they did not cling long to the lack of authenticity arguement) quickly turned to the CRU being only one of several points of data in the AGW fraud. And yet NASA, being one of those, for some reason (?) continues to stonewall the CEI on the release of its' data. Does anyone really believe that the whole lot are not a bunch of frauds?
"the Senate clearly cannot and will not adopt such economy-killing cuts that it promised." – - – - – - – — don't bet on it. these sneaky SOB's will stick it in some appropriations bill or similar. there is not a single thing that this body could do that would surprise me at this point.
the safe money would be on this not passing, but then again i thought that cap and tax had no chance…health care had no chance..
cyclonaut : "safe money … "
Obvious oxymoron …
Chris been reading your books and articles,,you are one of the Generals in the Army of Davids on the internet trying to get the word out. Your work brings home for all of us just how chilling it is that our fourth estate, our nations watch dogs are letting the American people down and putting this country in great peril. Please allow me to thank you for doing your job.
Also I echo the previous comment I eagerly await an update on the NASA FOIA request. Maybe Hensen will send the data along with a Christmas card.
This whole climtae treaty BS is about taking money from the people of the U.S.A. and giving it to little chithole countries in Africa that will never amount to anything more than little chithole countries no matter how many dollars are poured in. Any money that goes to third world countries will first go through the hands of the tyrant ruler of that country. The poor people of these countries will never see a friggin' dime. But the friggin' idiot liberals will feel good about themselves for their generous acts with our money.
Qeustion: Does Obama have any poltical capital left?
Really? All the bowing, the trashing of America on foriegn lands, giving away third and fourth strikes to Russia and now the whole Copenhagen debalcal, what have we or Obama gained?
Some told me that we now have respect in the international community. I call BULL$#!T! If we had their respect, they would have given us something along the way. Now they might like us, because we will be weak as long as Barry is in charge.

I'm starting to think these little chithole countries in Africa might be another laundry service for the Dems with a little sumpin' sumpin' for whichever 3rd world dictator looks the other way.
Mr. Horner, read this blog: http://lamecherry.blogspot.com/ She/He is a brillaint writer and if you scroll through the articles, you will agree with me.
I'm not as sanguine as Mr.Horner that our wonderful congress wouldn't pass economy destroying legislation.
You ain't lying. I am completely through even being polite to left-wing losers bent on robbing me of my property and freedom.
Thanks for replying.
I would urge everyone here to visit your blog and read your most excellent piece entitled, "Deal or No Deal." It's the second entry from the top of the page, at

I am with mrm on this one cannot trust them for anything. Look at what happened with Nelson. Every one of them is for sale, if the price is right.
Hear hear, a bunch of weasels all of them.
Be serious they do not like us any better than before. They do and will continue to do what is best for their individual country, or their own pocket. Just like our politicians. Even Obama butt kissing Sarkozy is not speaking all that well of Obie in private. They will pretend to publicly like us better, just wait. Some of the little people in Europe seem to like us better that is because like our masses they have a lot of misconceptions about our dear leader.
Not a one of them, in Congress, passed the Kyoto POS and don't hand me "that was then…….." !
Of course they will. To think otherwise is to think for a second that they will say that they are wrong. Liberals will never admit that they are wrong.
I don't think thing's can get any worst, unless we all die i guess, sitting here with my gun, don't know if i should kill myself,or wait to take someone with me.
Congress won't pass this; the Dems are after more power and this doesn't give them any.
Reid and Pelosi are far more interested in ObamaCare, Cap&Tax, and starting in January, the upcoming election.

I have said before on this web site, I am 60+, and I am a European: This is the worst scam in the in story of the world, and behind it are evil left wing "elite" with all kind of branches even into big business, and the mafia in UN, which should be closed down or at least asked to move from New York. Let them settle in Cuba, where they have their role model.
I know who these people are, all the way back to my student years in the 60/ 70ties. They hate America for your free enterprise system, the fact that creative people line up to immigrate to America. So they cannot control them. So they conspired with your left, academics, main stream media and into your political system. You know who the usual suspects. This should be a task for young people like Hannah and James, with the guidance of a savvy guidance of Andrew. Real research, if this mafia can be brought down (throwing light on them), free people around the world might have a chance. Still Americans must lead this fight, our here the communists have been at much longer.
I voted for McCain, helplessly voted for him. He was the lesser of two weevils, as is so often the case in presidential politics in this here US of A.
Mr. Horner, please do no such thing. The author is a raving lunatic who thinks the FBI "plays" with the author's computer EVEN WHEN IT IS OFFLINE. The author is a paranoiac nutcase.
I specifically refer to one blog entry entitled "Color Me Green," which contains nuggets such as:
"What gets interesting in Bunker 109 though is when I conduct tests in passive monitoring the monitors and find out that phone conversations are being monitored, computer resources are being tapped, and offline there was a period of a few months after Obama census takers gave me site a GPS location like all Americans, that a satellite was bombarding this location with interesting bandwidths which were blowing digital television signals off the air…" and
"I was impressed that someone there decided to flex their muscles in changing my computer monitor settings from larger to making them skew right or left. That is most interesting as the monitor settings are hard settings, and yet the very intelligent people who are piggybacking on federal systems actually were accessing the system while offline and amusing themselves…"
We need to get off the McCain bandwagon. Some of us were never on it.
Please talk to a rational person, or visit a doctor and talk to him/her about these thoughts.
Don't delay, please. There is a way out of this mental mudhole in which you find yourself.
Get help!
Excellent point, very original.
I like it!!
Harald, you are so right! We need some heros to follow now so that we can take our country back. I wish there was a prison large enough to hold those who belong there, and not a resort like Gitmo, either!
"I deserve better than an A+ for my Copenhagen success"
Barak Obama
I love it. Failure thy name is Obama. He now has the distinction of being the worst President in US history. Maybe they should have shipped the Greek pillars with him for effect.
"heck, I’ve got a book coming out exposing the whole sleazy lie"
Hold out. I get this feeling that there are millions of us amassing at some battle line. Bringing in all to the line. At some point in 2010 someone will yell "Charge!" and the Full Faith of the Un-United States – pent up for the better part of two decades – will be unleashed.
Katie. Bar the door.
Look, Mr. Horner, I really enjoy your articles and postings, but ENOUGH with the "Icon"-like pictures of Obama and Gore. It's not funny in my opinion, I know others may find it amusing, but I see it as a bit blasphemous. Not to mention, if you think you're snubbing Obama and his acolytes, you're not. I think they just look at pictures like this, get down on their knees and pray to the almighty Nobama or Algore. PLEASE, I don't know if anyone else doesn't like them, or if you think I'm being too sensitive about it…I like a good parody and joke, but not when it messes in ANY way with the REAL Christ. Thanks, and keep up the good work.
Did you happen to read any other previous articles?
Yes, I did. I was impressed with the very sharp sense of humor this blogger has. I also believe his thinking to be pretty damned original. I must tell you, though, when someone believes the hinky stuff revealed in the entry "Color Me Green," that someone needs help, and I don't mean financial help.
I didn't like one aspect of the writing: It was loaded with grammar, style, punctuation, spelling and usage errors. I know, I know, it's the Internet. I get told that all the time. But, seriously, would you buy a piece of music that had "clinkers" (notes that were out of tune or in the wrong key) interspersed throughout it?

Continued from above…
I apologize for my bluntness in the two comments above. This paranoid stuff is really scary to me. Furthermore, the Left tends to paint all of us on the Right as paranoid. We're not. We're just too damned smart to fall for their bullshit. I've known mentally ill people who said things very much like LameCherry writes. In my view, this kind of mental problem invalidates the rest of the writing. It's all in one's worldview, and I don't claim to always be right. I'm quite sure, though, in at least that one post, that this author is very, very wrong.
I agree with you on that point but I've been reading this blogger for 2 years now and outside of the grammatical mistakes, she/he has an acute insight as to the poiltical situation and the players. Plus some of the articles were spot regarding the events that eventually unfolded as per the blogger. At times it's almost like reading a novel.
No need to apoligize. We are all under a lot of stress.
Thank you for your charitable and generous remarks. I mean that sincerely.
I hope your Christmas and New Year season is filled with warmth and joy.
Thank you. To you also.

I thing we must be positif about This Conferension
The irony of Obama making the same mistake as Clinton did – "As such, Obama has just repeated Clinton’s misstep with Kyoto." – is only compounded by the participation of MRS. Clinton participating in the same mistake. Referring to her promise to send, what was it, a $100 billion of our tax dollars to the nuts running these third world countries, Absolutely absurd that she thinks she can do that.
The irony of the whole event was wrapped up in the fact these idiots were meeting in the midst of a snowstorm and that Obama rushed out of there in order to get back to DC before the blizzard hit. I just kept watching for a headline that someone's jet slid off the runway due to snow and ice – would have been the icing on the cake.
Meanwhile, Congress is busy sinking its hooks into the natural gas business. They smell money.

It's SNOWing outside where I'm living! That's all the proof I need to know the polar ice caps aren't melting.
