ClimateGate’s Josh Steiner Moment?
by Christopher C. Horner
By now you’ve likely forgotten the name of Josh Steiner, the Bill Clinton aide who feebly testified that he had lied to his own diary when recording events of the time. But you haven’t forgotten the pitifulness of the spectacle. I suggest we may have just passed that one in ClimateGate, with the following passage from John Tierney’s column in the New York Times, discussing “Mike’s Nature trick of adding in the real temps to each series for the last 20 years (ie from 1981 onwards) amd [sic] from 1961 for Keith’s to hide the decline”:
“In fact, one skeptic raised this very issue about tree-ring data in a comment posted in 2004 on RealClimate, the blog operated by climate scientists. The comment, which questioned the propriety of ‘grafting the thermometer record onto a proxy temperature record,’ immediately drew a sharp retort on the blog from Michael Mann, an expert at Penn State University:
‘No researchers in this field have ever, to our knowledge, ‘grafted the thermometer record onto’ any reconstruction. It is somewhat disappointing to find this specious claim (which we usually find originating from industry-funded climate disinformation Web sites) appearing in this forum.’
Dr. Mann now tells me that he was unaware, when he wrote the response, that such grafting had in fact been done in the earlier cover chart, and I take him at his word.”
But wasn’t it “Mike’s trick” to do this that is being discussed here, grasped and described as such by CRU’s Phil Jones as having been performed on Mike’s graph, by Mike? So, his defense is that no one had told him that that’s what he was doing?
These guys really need to call for a RealInvestigation to get the the bottom of their actions, as the more they stumble around the worse they’re making themselves look.

And don't forget the computer code designed to change temperature decline into temperature increases. The WARMERS are toast (just cooler toast than predicted)
the media hasn't questioned them before though and they're certainly not questioning them now. We have to make them.
These lumps of bat snot need to be horse whipped and fired, then banned from ever doing scinectific work any where ever again. They are liars and cheats who have been preputrating a fraud on the owrld and for what? Money! They did it to get funding for their so called scinece! They have committed fraud and do not deserve to work inthe fiekld again and need to be jailed for at least twenty years for defrauding their government of cash and causing the world to waste millions. Wake Up america! Gore and Obama and Bronner are all still claiming that global warm ing is real even though they have ben caught lying! wake up and refuse to follow these con artists.
Impeach Obama for failing to uphold his oath of office. arrets Gore for fraud, fire and arrest Bronner for conflict of interest and fraud. Wake Up America! they are doing all they can to destory our country and it up to us to kick them out and jail them for the crimes they commit! If you are to have a future, you will have to fight for your rigts and fight to stop the fraud and corruption that is the name oif the game in Washington today! Wake Up and save yourself and your family! There is no global warming and there is no nedd for a climate change bill or to raise enercy bills by ten times so Obma can grow the government and line his pockets and the pockets of the other criminals that hang around him. Wake Up america! Wake Up!
All of these "scientists" need to be tried and jailed !
I don't really know what can be done to Gore, outside of a massive class action suit, but SOMETHING needs to be done TO him and all of his buddies who have made many hundreds of millions, each, from this damned HOAX!
I think the money line is "I can’t see either of these papers being in the next IPCC report. Kevin and I will keep
them out somehow – even if we have to redefine what the peer-review literature is !"
That's the lynch pin in all of this. I don't know climate, I don't academia, but one thing I do know is process and procedure – quality management, ISO9001. I did it for years as a side assignment at a nameless, faceless multi-national corporation.
When the people who 'peer-review' papers are the people who say only 'peer-reviewed' papers, reviewed by them, are valid, you have a process failure big enough to fly a carbon spewing 787 through.
When I was a quality management system auditor we had an unwritten rule, no matter how many failures you find, you only issue one finding, and you tell them everything else you found, that you would be checking on when you came back next year. Professional courtesy. They're already in enough hot water. They need time to fix their process, not waste in meetings getting yelled at.
I'd file at least a dozen on this one. That's not science, that's a mafia.
Correct, because the media has too much time, money and credibility invested. There's no way they can come clean now and ever hope of selling another advertisement.
ever doing scinectific work any where ever again
I was under the impression they weren't doing scientific work now.
and why let a little thing like the truth get in the way of a perfectly good story…
They really had us going on that global warming thing- playing on our western values and sense of guilt. Yep, just about pulled it off, too.
Cap and Tax is now dead. No one will touch this no matter what transpires at Copenhagen. It is the new third rail of US politics.
Good ridddance…
The "media" itself doesn't have the money invested, their owners and backers do. Any reporter that doesn't want to go down in history as a politician rather than a reporter should go ahead and cover it and say f the boss.
Their ratings will actually go up, and if they get fired, they'll surely get rehired somewhere else because there's a lack of real reporters.
Right now they're deciding if they're reporters or politicians. I'm sure most already have their minds made up, but it only takes a few in the right places to let all the drones know.
I bet Algore is chomping down whole boxes of Krispy Kreme donuts over this.
What's wrong with grafting a few different sources together to make your case? First you use layers in the earth's crust to show there was an ice age, then you use tree rings because they showed a warming trend, then use thermometers placed near airports and city centers to show a rapid rise in temps since 1960. And that nasty spike in 1998? Claim you had sensors too close to 3 Mile Island and Chernobyl. It's all explained by Professor Mann of Penn State in this video.

I wonder how much information has been hidden from the public by evolutionary scientist. They defend their evidence with the same vigor as the Climategate scientist. And once again, the scientist who do disagree with evolution or present evidence for intelligent designed are discriminated against publishing in scientific journals. Sounds like it is all about getting the funds they want from the research foundations.
Has anyone tracked down Gore and peppered him with some questions yet? Or is he in hiding?
Creative fiction. I won't even dignify it by calling it Science Fiction!
Creating Crap out of thin air and then hiding it's stink seems to be the key to the success of a Progressives career, politics, scientism, presstitution, all the same.
The Fresh air of facts seems to be the only cure, which is why they are getting so hysterical about shutting that damn freedom of speech window.
2004 Mike "We woudl never do that! How dare you sir!"
2009 Mike "Ah gee, I didnt know anyone was doing that, my bad, oh double my bad since that anyone was me…"
2010 Mike "I invoke my right to the 5th senator"
Hope your right, really do, but Healthcare isnt dead and everyone said it would be.
Progressive Zombie Policy, just when you think it's dead it jumps up and bites you on your a..
If the CRU is going to perform an internal audit I expect it will be very detailed and thorough. I expect that it will find and disclose all the wrong doing. JUST LIKE THEY DID AT ACORN!!!!
Clever, cooler toast…
2004 Mike "We are scientists SIR we would NEVER do that! How dare you!"
2009 Mike "I didnt know anyone was doing that, my bad … oh double my bad since that anyone was me…"
2010 Mike "I invoke my right to the 5th senator"
This needs more than a hard investigation. It needs multiple prosecutions. Maybe a show trial or two in Manhattan.
never said health care was dead here- they are bound and determined to get 'a bill', no matter what- and revisit it later. It most likely will be the last thing he ever achieves… cap and tax is a bridge too far, as they say.
Gottalove it!!!!!
I feel a cool breeze blowing, and the warmers dissipating like a fart in the wind. For Owlgore, it’ll have to be mighty cool breeze.
I disagree. Consider how Holder dismissed all charges against the Black Panthers, and got away with it. Consider how the Democrats keep calling for recounts, and finding more and more ballots, and getting away with it. The Democrats and Leftists are going to figure they can get away with doing whatever they want, even while everyone knows what they are doing.
Oh, give it a rest. Anyone who has tried to breed up coon hounds, guppies, or show pigeons has used "evolution" to create a new strain. As for "intellegent design", you have to figure out how to set up a falseable experiment.
you are right to be concerned- and they won't quit, either. But self preservation in an election year is pretty important; and those at risk of losing their comfy job in congress will not be willing to stick out yon necks…
Could you be related to Jack? Because THIS is a plum: "So, his defense is that no one had told him that that’s what he was doing?"
How many of these Masters of the Scientific Universe, I wonder, keep hoping they'll wake up, the alarm will be ringing, the dog scratching to get out, and it's about 3 weeks ago?
No, EdSki, that's fraudsters trying to give the Mafia a bad name
There's an excellent op-ed in today's WSJ, "The Climate Science Isn't Settled" by Richard Lindzen, prof. of meteorology at the Mass. Institute of Technology. Some really good slap-downs on the IPCC's hysterics.
I think that the process was already fixed as far back as 1996 when the people controlling the content of the IPCC report that year removed content that had been accepted via peer review.
I am not a scientist or anything like that, but I have a BS meter. It has been running overtime every time I hear a new alarmist global warming report.
Just remember anything is possible, and everything can change in a short space of time. This is the Australian experience where the Opposition leader was taken down because he was supporting our version of crap and tax. I think that it is now DOA
BTW since it has been discovered that REALCLIMATE.org does in fact have connections to Soros, then really you do have to wonder about certain things….
If I met Professor Jones at the supermarket, I'd have to say, "Hey, dude, I hate it fuh yuh. Not rilly, PSYCHE!"
"When the people who 'peer-review' papers are the people who say only 'peer-reviewed' papers, reviewed by them, are valid, you have a process failure big enough to fly a carbon spewing 787 through."
Couldn't agree more.
And, frankly, to take your Quality analogy a bit further….
I, too, have worked in the Quality field for a number of years. And something I have learned is that you can fairly easily manipulate collected data to portray almost any desired result.
I developed various data collection programs to be used in Statistical Process Control systems. And I can tell you…depending on what my hire ups wanted to portray to Executive Management, I could develop reports that graphically got the point across. If I was asked to focus on demonstrating that we had cut waste that quarter….by God, my reports could reflect that. If felt we needed more headcount, by God I could demonstrate that our production load was putting our earned labor hours in a precarious position.
Folks, statistics are not science. And this climate non-sense is all statistics.
Hey Phillep I Won.t fight you on the issues because I don‘t have a dog in the fight but your argument sucks. I think you are impugning the character of the good Mr. Darwin by claiming he stole his theory from swine breeders. Have we been able to breed a new species yet??? GEE I thought not. Hey but get back to me when you have bred a pigeon that swims and barks.
No, Mr. Harding, you give it a rest. You have no way to disprove that an eternal (nigh-) omnipotent being has "tweaked" evolution all this time, therefore evolution should be presented as agnostic, you can neither confirm nor deny such involvement. Instead it has been steadfastly presented as atheistic, claiming absolutely positively in no way imaginable a "higher being" could have been involved. Then while using evolution to press an anti-God agenda, your sort complains when others reject the science on religious grounds.
Just now you have shown the problems in that position, by giving examples of a "higher life form" carefully "tweaking" a lower form into having desired chararistics, as examples of "evolution." So "intelligent design" is "evolution" by your understanding?
Stop saying evolution cannot have a "higher power" involved, since you cannot prove that, cease being un-scientific with your unproven belief, and see what that does for acceptance. Do you think the Vatican dropped their objections to evolution because they accept it "just happened" with no involvement at all from God?
Dr. Mann now tells me that he was unaware, when he wrote the response, that such grafting had in fact been done in the earlier cover chart, and I take him at his word.”
Yes because he had probably done it …
Well, technically speaking… When I argued this stuff before online, I found that "species" actually can go by several definitions. One is if two opposite-sex members can mate and produce viable (able to reproduce) offspring then they are of the same species. By that standard a Chihuahua and a Bull Mastiff are separate species, as mating does not occur. But with a little "scientific" help they can interbreed as they are genetically compatible, therefore they are the same species.
Also note that when the greenies decry the disappearance of so many species, a good many of them are genetically the same as something else but separated somehow. A bird that lives in a wetland and makes a nest of reeds can be genetically the same as one that lives a thousand miles away in fields and makes a nest of grass and weeds, but they are considered different species.
You can read about it here, it really is a mess.

Answering my own question. It got ugly.
GREAT VIDEO!!!!
2004 Mike "We are scientists SIR we would NEVER do that! How dare you!"
2009 Mike "I didnt know anyone was doing that, my bad … oh double my bad since that anyone was me…"
2010 Mike "I invoke my right to the 5th senator"
Nice catch Christopher. This kind of thing happening in science blows my mind.
never said health care was dead here- they are bound and determined to get 'a bill', no matter what- and revisit it later. It most likely will be the last thing he ever achieves… cap and tax is a bridge too far, as they say.
no one ever said that College Professors have any common sense — no way! For sure, dude…..these braniacs are so myopic that they simply only count the fingers on their hands…but ignore everything else around them…like solar cycles, galactic orbital cycles, magnetic gravitational influences between planets and multiplied by galaxies orbiting around each other…net having 100,000 cycles on climate changes and temps on all planets in our solar system……come on! Get real!
Man has nothing to do with how these galaxies orbit and the cycles that have existed for millions of years…….
This brings to mind the fraudulent book Arming America by Michael A. Bellesiles. He made up evidence claiming that that America didn't have any firearm tradition during the founding and early years of this nation. Thankfully he was exposed, forced to resign his post, and had his wrongly awarded Bancroft Prize rescinded. This is the model to be followed in Climategate.
Hiding in his enormous, energy-guzzling mansion no doubt.
The fear mongers had a nice run with this. They're probably laughing their heads off thinking, hahaha we even had them believing cow farts melt glaciers!!!
Can someone please get in touch with the hackers. We need them to hack the Hawaiian DOH server before they dump the original Birth Certificate. They refuse to reply to all of my FOIA, OIP and e-mail request. Sound familiar
For a grand you can meet the pantload in Copenhagen. For a hefty contribution to the Obama legal defense fund (currently operating @ $mil/mo in BC actions), you can join his entourage in Copenhagen. For allowing "change you can believe in" to sign any type of climate-related document in Copenhagen you can say goodbye to the rest of your life. Stop that plane!
Here's the website of an independent group (no, not 'paid shills of big energy!') who are doing their part to expose the FRAUD of global warming, errr, climate change, or whatever they're calling it this week. It shows many, many examples of the basic data being influenced and outright falsified by locating temperature sensors in areas that will consistently give artificially elevated readings- typically due to placement near parking lots, bldgs, air conditioners, etc.
http://surfacestations.org/
One of the more blatant examples is this station in my home county of Henderson, Hendersonville, NC. Note to the right in the satellite shot the extra wide 6 lane Four Seasons Blvd (the biggest street in town) and the bank & its parking lot across the blvd. To the left across 7th Ave is a Lowes parking lot in front of what I assure you is the typical big box home center with its acres of asphalt roof. Off the bottom of the picture are relatively undeveloped woods and a small swamp (beautiful water lilies in season!), but everything off the top of this shot, and i do mean everything for a mile or so, is virtually 100% commercial development- what isn't built on is paved over. This one is all the more egregious given that this entire region is largely heavily forested or rural farm land, making this thoroughly urban site particularly unrepresentative of local conditions and topography. Nice, objective, unbiased data collection, huh?

I think their problem is that all of the reliable "independent investigators" are busy covering up….ummmm….investigating ACORN right now.
I agree with everything you write except The "media" itself doesn't have the money invested, their owners and backers do
The people with the money are the media, the actual reporters are just the front men, face people. I could be wrong, since I don't pay a whole lot of attention to the MSM these days, but the last time I recall any reporter attempting to do any real investigating was Dan Rather with Memogate. And we all know how that turned out.
Jake Tapper shows glimpses of independence from time to time. But I don't recall from recent memory any attempts to investigate anything. And Climategate is a stellar example of that.
You know, I watched the Godfather over the Holiday weekend (one of my favorite movies) and I think I agree. They would be giving the mafia a bad name.
At least criminals don't expect you to say thank you when they rob you.
"Lies, damned lies, and statistics" – Charles Wentworth Dilke (1843-1911).
Sorry Kadaka, but you're attributing claims to Harding that he never made. You're also attributing claims to evolution that evolutionists never make.
Evolution does not, by definition, say that it "cannot have a 'higher power' involved." Evolution makes an affirmative claim, i.e., that all life on the planet ties its roots back to the same fundamental things. Evolution does not make any negative claims that you're attributing to it, that it's impossible for evolution to have started by the Providence of God. Sure, there are some stupid teachers out there that teach evolution in an anti-God way; however, there are also some teachers that refuse to even teach evolution, or teach it in a manner which ridicules it. I think we're all friendly and respectful enough of each other on this site that we don't need to automatically pigeonhole each other into those radical camps; let's try our best to assume to best of each other, ok?
Further, just so you know, it's pointless to tell someone "You can't disprove this." That's a worthless argument and should honestly never be uttered by someone as intelligent as you. On a metaphysical level, none of us can really disprove anything; what we do instead is try to find evidence of things we can try to prove. We then take all of that evidence, put it all together, reason through it and come to the best conclusion we can possibly come to. If you've come to the conclusion that the evidence for intelligent design is strong, then that's wonderful; just because someone else has come to a conclusion that there is not currently enough evidence to believe intelligent design exists, does not mean they are anti-God.
Sorry, Phillep, but breeding is a meaningless example. When breeding, one is simply selecting from existing variation already inherent within the parents. Evolution is, supposedly, driven by mutation and selection. Breeders are not introducing mutations into the offspring. That is why breeders will always hit a wall. One could not, say, breed a dog into a cat.
And, yes, intelligent design could effectively be falsified. The idea that a new gene could be randomly produced is essential to and assumed by evolutionary theory. There is no experimental evidence of such a thing and statistical probabilities invey against it. Clearly demonstrate that it can be done, in theory or reality. 40 years of bacterial cultures are like a million or so years of human generations. Surely some modest information increase can be observed. Get busy.
In public policy terms, the revelation that the international scientific and political establishment has been inventing, bending, distorting, manipulating, hiding, blocking, and destroying scientific data for the sake of advancing a narrow, extremist, and bitterly anti-Western political viewpoint cannot be safely ignored.
From Lord Mockton Report
Gore ? Gore ? Gore ? (Stein doing Forrest Bueller) Anyone heard from Gore recently ?
Should we all just pinch ourselves? For the better part of this decade not only have a parade of YO-YOs lined up in front of cameras and recorders extolling the virtue of global warming science they also took the time out to chastise us.
How do you look in the mirror and realize that the last decade was a complete lie? How many parties were you the champion of fraud? The MC of bullcrap.
AHHHHHHHHH. I love the smell of retina in the morning.
The Nobel Prize needs to be taken away from ALGORE and presented to the computer hackers who uncovered this massive fraud on mankind!
"Wind Farms" are fraudulent, too , in this Climategate scheme.. They are overpriced, government subsidized, produce at less that 25% capacity (only when the wind blows at the right speed), and wreck the environment and peoples lives who are forced by our "elected frauds" to live in turbine shadows.
We need to hold our elected officials accountable.
Sorry, but this is a bias I have long encountered, and it is not just "some" teachers. If you suggest a higher intelligence may have directed evolution, that is labeled intelligent design and non-science. Indeed, there is an implicit definition floating around that evolution must be totally undirected, either you agree there was absolutely no such outside influence or you are being completely non-scientific. They will not allow the possibility of a higher power, yet they cannot show that a higher power could not have been involved. By science the best they can say is it looks unlikely such involvement happened, they have seen no proof of it. They go beyond that, therefore they are the non-scientific ones.
Science asks us to believe in many things that are unseen, whose existence we may never definitively prove. Right now we are to believe in dark matter and dark energy, because, quite simply, it makes the numbers work out. And I don't have a problem with that, as that is how science goes. I am a thinking rational creature, expected to figure things out on my own, to be able to discover things about the physical world. I accept I have been directed to believe in evolution as that is what the evidence shows, as I believe in electricity and chemical interactions and many other things not mentioned in the Bible. It was never intended as an absolute instruction manual, we as a species are expected to figure things out for ourselves.
Currently science, by the discovery of dark matter and energy, has found out we weren't even aware of 90+ percent of what is in our own universe. Science is telling us it is highly likely our universe is not alone, there are possibly countless others.
Science, quite simply, tells us we do not know what all exists. The ongoing bias among evolution proponents is we absolutely know this does not exist. This is not metaphysical. This is the physical world, hard science. They want to push an agenda beyond what science will support, to hijack the science that exists, and insist that it is science. And that is what I call them out on.
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.
A politician, a journalist, a climatologist, and a scientist go into a bar.
Inside someone is cigared, someone else is lied to, someone else is screwed, and someone sits down at the bar and has a drink with the only one of the four who isn't a scoundrel…
…unless the scientist happens to be a teetotaler.
