Global Warming Silence: Wellesley Walkout
by Christopher C. HornerThere was a good turnout at Wellesley College last night for my talk “A Quick Tour of the Ultimate in Political Correctness: The ‘Global Warming’ Issue, Agenda and Industry”, hosted by the College Republican Club… once presided over here by Hillary Rodham on her way to a thesis about Saul Alinksy, whose ghost as we see still lingers.

The students were gracious particularly given the trying circumstances in recent days, including a faculty member (department-head level) expressing in a fairly open forum, with occasional lapses of civility, her sentiments about the club members and their decision to screen “Not Evil Just Wrong” Sunday, followed by hosting me on Wednesday. Oddly – read on – her peculiar take on campus tolerance and diversity included an often salty angst over the students supposedly showing no interest in actually having debate or discussion.
That she had been originally approached to speak on a panel adds to the mystery. She said, in short, no professor would want to participate with someone “like that” (er, me). The school administrators have now agreed to address the issue of this instance and similar, fairly regular treatment of a political minority. But, having failed to interest any faculty in sharing a panel let alone debating the merits, the students finally asked a different faculty member to at least speak after the film. He declined and offered instead an informative lunch with his faculty colleagues. The ones who don’t want open discussion or debate (the real kind) except when they do (the purely aspirational type).
So with all of that as prologue it was with curiosity that, during the question and answer period last night, this latter faculty member was indeed in attendance with a (non-faculty) friend, the latter who was busy on a cell phone, passing it on occasion to said faculty member who feverishly took notes. With said notes transcribed, he raised his hand with a slightly inane inquiry about whether, if we seek to heat the planet, is CO2 a cost-effective approach? On one level I was pleased he apparently had no problem with anything I presented, though I did have to correct him for placing numerous words in my mouth in order to frame his query.
Moments later, after another passing of the phone, he wanted to know if I knew what the greenhouse effect was. I began to describe it, though not without interjections demanding that I direct my answer more to his liking (by chance, the repetitive and interrupting “you’re not answering my question” was the one typical campus Alinsky-like tactic I had mentioned to the students over dinner beforehand). In that context I did get out that greenhouse gases in our atmosphere either (take your pick) absorb or trap radiation… “From?” Well, radiation comes “From the sun.”
“Incorrect! It’s a basic principle of how the earth’s climate system works. If you don’t know that you should not standing there representing yourself as someone who can speak to that point” (then somewhat muffled comments as he gathers his things to run out, ironically showing no interest in discussion or debate).
Well he’s got a very good point, in that I walked into the trap with lazy shorthand, about which I know better regardless of the circumstances and which made what I said incorrect. As he quickly bundled up his effects I inquired which slides of mine he disagreed. This was followed by some undecipherable comment at which point he begins his exit. I asked him to “Don’t storm out. Stay. We’re having a nice discussion.” [Audience member: “Don’t. That’s the coward’s way out”. That only made him hurry faster, at least on the videotape I turned on when I sensed something good was in the midst of being staged.] My hat is off to him, at least up to the storm-out, he was textbook and followed it fairly well though to no substantive point, if the entirety of the act is transparent.
I do feel compelled to note, somewhat in my defense – the radiation is, as you might imagine, radiation courtesy of the sun, as asked and answered – and somewhat in a mea culpa – technically, of course and as I have described in numerous uninterrupted talks, pieces, books, and radio shows, the radiation when trapped/absorbed is so trapped or absorbed on the way out, at which point it is infrared and no longer “solar” radiation.

http://www.grida.no/_res/site/Image/series/vg-climate/large/3.jpg
So, yes it of course comes from the sun but to not specify that this absorption/trapping occurs when it is re-radiated from the earth was without question my bad. President Obama will be more articulate on this point when raised today across town at MIT, when he keens about the climate crisis.
While not exactly rising to the level of Al Gore reversing the cause-and-effect relationship of CO2 and temperatures, or Gore’s producer swapping a graphs axis labels to falsely present findings (two things identified in my talk but which apparently did not interest my emotional interlocutor), it was sloppy and therefore literally inaccurate, to be sure. Of course, I don’t know if he really assumed that I was asserting a belief that GHGs absorb or trap radiation before it gets to the earth, but I suggest his hystrionics thereafter affirm that it doesn’t matter. By text message or otherwise, it was decided that storming out claiming ignorance too insufferable to countenance was the way to best attain involvement without dreaded discussion or debate.
Whether that supports a tantrum by a fully grown man, if an environmental studies teacher, is in the eye of the beholder.* His hasty retreat surely had more to do with a bristling Richard Lindzen sitting just over his shoulder than a fear that I would elaborate in response. In no indirect terms Dr. Lindzen strode to the mike to express his impression of such behavior, likely not commonly experienced by a chaired Ivy professor renowned in his field. But on the other hand, maybe such acting out is why he dropped out of the IPCC.
Regardless, it did this department little more honor than the behavior of the previously mentioned faculty colleague – and, I’ll speculate, text-buddy – leading up to the event. The Environmental Studies faculty had already made a meeting necessary to address its behavior. Given that, as I understand it, the administration appears sincere in its concern for such and related outbursts as in the past few days, there should now be more to talk about. Regardless, we got some funny video.
* In fact, after more than two dozen campuses, this is only the second time a faculty member has attended and spoken, though both stormed out (the former was at UNC-Charlotte; related, the ES department chair and actual PhD climatologist at Knox College also stormed out, but only saying to a student “I’ll get him in class, tomorrow!”)

Christopher Horner, as usual is on point with his article.
We need people like him, that are educated, and understand this issue, who can continue to articulate the fraud about to be perpetrated, and further educate the pubic, and alert them to the sham.
Apparently it does not take a lot of knowledge to out smart a present day college professor.

Global Warming, now called "CLIMATE CHANGE" is a HOAX !
Climate changes all the time; has done from time immemorial.
Those who claim that it is man made know nothing at all about actual, factual science, at its most elementary level.
It's wimpy wrist liberal "teachers" are the majority rather than the minority of the professionals at our campuses. I was a student who went back to finish my BA when I was 32. Let me assure you, these lillied white yahoos could never stand up to a class full of adults with real life experience. I challenged the professors all of the time and some enjoyed it while others took offense to it. The students always appreciated it. What I took away from my collegiate experience was this – few of the professors who earned tenure had any experience outside of the walls of education. They are the most pampered of all society, and IMHO, tenure needs to be removed in all state university's. It would save us mere mortals a ton of $$$ by simply taking such a bold policy act.
I was thinking the same thing!
Anthropological Global Warming is a SCAM.

Great stuff at your link !
I knew John Coleman and the man is brilliant; everyone should read his stuff. Thanks for posting that link and I hope that everyone uses it .
Good for you!
We all need to challenge these morons, with hard, cold facts, at every turn; profs and anyone else who spouts this garbage. !

Excellent!!!!!! So much logical info, especially the tech stuff. Thank you, thank you.
That "faculty member" has to have one of the lamest lists of academic credentials I've ever seen in an academic. The guy has to mention that he wrote an entry for “James Watt” for the forthcoming "Encyclopedia of American Environmental History" and I'm sure that given his open-mindedness, that the entry he wrote will be a paragon of objectivity and truthfulness. Yes, parents, you are paying more than $40,000 a year so your children can be taught by that guy.
"By text message or otherwise, it was decided that storming out claiming ignorance too insufferable to countenance was the way to best attain involvement without dreaded discussion or debate."
Such as the classic "your a racist" argument? Most liberals don't seem terribly interested in or capable of debate. You see this would require independent thought and, as evidenced by the faculty member and his cell phone, they are all about dependence.
While we know it's possible, is it plausible to think this faculty member, not unlike certain MSNBC hosts, was receiving his directions directly from someone at the White House?
The final nail in the coffin of AGW.

yes yes yes….i entered at the age of 25, after 4 yrs. mil. (2 tours across the pond) and two yrs. as a patrol officer. i found many profs. to be book bound and narrow minded. all they carried about was regurgitate the pages at test time. the outside experienced educators let us are mind and even challenge their thoughts. i hope kids these days experience life in the slow lane.
He was "controlling the message" by walking out on you (heard THAT before?).
Also… I am BAFFLED that a guy like that has been hired by any self respecting university… but then again I read Harvard Law Professors on Politico defend gov mandated health insurance… one quick "google" of "contract duress" will give you case after case describing that someone can not be forced into a contract against their will. No wonder our kids think we have the right to bear arms because they used to have to hunt for food.
A five year old child could understand this! Quick, find me a five year old!
Does Hill have a herpes blister in that picture?

NOUN:
Violation of allegiance toward one's country or sovereign, especially the betrayal of one's country by waging war against it or by consciously and purposely acting to aid its enemies.
A betrayal of trust or confidence.
No. Cigar burn; she had just finished a "date" with Bill.
We have know all along that the liberal ideology can not stand up to any factual argument. They always resort to belittling and "walking away". No wonder they don't like conservative speakers on campus…they out shine 'em every time.
What I found interesting, as with all these hysterical concoctions, is that they WANT it to be true.
If it could be proven to them, to the satisfaction of their own minds, that it doesn't exist, they would be mightily disappointed.
They want "global warming" to exist.
That's why they must walk out.
ACE has it right. They are all furry balls of vitriol. Finally, one can only say — "how now Mao?"
They are so committed to their new religion, their existence is going to be threatened when doomsday is finally called off. The redistribution of wealth in the pipeline from the West to the East will make this train hard to stop.
Meanwhile, the fraud represents crimes against humanity. They've been caught red-handed cooking the data – it's sickening. (see: Stephen McIntyre vs Mann, Briffa, IPCC.)
It shouldn't be surprising that acadamia is full of liberals. Anyone that has gone to college can attest that there are some people, though not all liberal, that NEED to be in a 'school' environment. The safety net of acadamia shields these people from real world responsabilities, mental and physical. If you were to remove these acadamia-ites from their secure surrounds, they soon begin to act like fish out of water. With teaching, comes a great sense of power. Especially at the University level. These 'prof's' indignantly refuse debate, because it may threaten their precious tenure, and make them appear to be less the dedicated follower than their colleagues. Usually when confronted about an issue, they will always retreat in order to do more research (factual or not) to prove their point, than to concede to the fact that another person, outside of acadamia, could possibly have a better answer.
To sum this all up…Al Gore is Jim Jones. And all these educated morons in acadamia are the Peoples Temple members. Makes me wonder when they are going to start drinking the cyanide-laced, grape flavored, Flavor Aid (Kool-Aid)!
To be fair, since you mentioned HRC's Alinsky's thesis, I think you should mention, for the record, what her conclusion was regarding these "rules."
Hillary was an Alinskeyite in the truest sense of the word.
http://www.hillaryclintonquarterly.com/hillarycli...
Alinskey thought of her as special, as gifted.
It's a religion, a mystery religion for the reds. I recall seeing Hilary Clinton at a campaign event where she yelled, "I believe in global warming", and the massed ranks of useful idiots cheered.
Unfortunately, they won't drink the cool-aid, they just want the rest of us to partake, by gunpoint if necessary. See Cap & Trade.
DAMN she's one ugly thingfish. Fits right in with Helen Thomas, Estrich, Dowd, etc.

Has anyone ever asked what happened to the three mile thick glacier that covered Chicago, (forming the Great Lakes) was its demise caused by cave men driving thier carbon emitting wheels causing Global Warming?
I began college in the warly 90's at the tender age of 45. I was the immediate darling of the Political Science dept. until they learned that I could see through their nonsense. I was published my sophmore year. While there I did home repairs for several faculty members. One marveled at how "handy" I was because I could change a doorknob (two screws). Here was a man with a PhD who couldn't figure out how to change a doorknob! I was thrown out of a history class on the Viet Nam War (I'm a veteran, and fromer POW of it) because the professor (whose sole experience was protesting) refused to allow any opinions other than his own. In short all I learned in college is where all of the lunatics from the 60's dissappeared to.
You're absolutely correct. We've been recording weather patterns for what? 100 yrs…150 years. How do we know if this isn't part of a 15,000 year correction or something similar?
I think when they storm out or start the name calling that a nerve has been hit where they may start to see the facts of the truth. The problem they have then is that they don't dare change their opinion or God forbid research it a little further because of how it will look to peers. They are incapable of processing independent thought anymore. It is easier for them to follow the "mainstream". And they call us dangerous.
Since man wasn't living there, back then, the GLOBAL WARMING, which melted that ice, must have come from ……ummmmmmmmmmmmm……………..ummmmmmmmmmmmm…………….ummmmmmmmmm………………….
ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm………………………………………………………..
Dinosaur farts?
LOL
Yes, there has been scientific weather tracking for something like 150 years; however, we also know about some weather patterns, from centuries and even millenia ago, because catastrophes were contemporaneously written about, such as the year without a summer in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. And we even know about what happened, due to archeological findings, 4,000 years ago.
The earth has gone through every kind of heat waves, droughts, cold/ice ages, etc. and for most of that time, mankind certainly wasn't doing anything at all that could possibly be construed as having slightest effect !
Nah, that's a cute (cute not hot) picture. And then everything else about her went so terribly wrong.
It's a global warming event.. every time this scheming, lying poser opens her mouth and offers her opinion on any subject.
Also, we know that so- called climate change is a naturally occuring event ,and isn't man-made, or a recent phenomenon. Do you see any of those polluting Vans, F-150's, Silverados, etc. tooling around the landscape in paintings of the Little Ice Age ,(1300-1850)? Yet, it was bitterly cold in many parts of the world and affected the types of crops that could be grown for people just to survive. Check out the temps that Washington and his troops endured at Valley Forge, for example. Terribly cold and no Hummers, tanks, half tracks or Jeeps could be seen anywhere.
You're right, it's political science!
It's also a way for those pushing it to make money. It goes way beyond just politics.
