Cap-and-Trade Really Is Cap-and-Tax
by Christopher C. HornerI was pleased to see the two colleagues either chosen to flank, or who elbowed their way up front to surround, Sens. John Kerry and Barbara Boxer when they introduced their “cap-and-trade” energy rationing scheme on Capitol Hill today. This Senate answer to the House’s California-Massachusetts Axis seeking to divine the nation’s future economic policy by means of environment policy — Beverly Hills’ Henry Waxman was the House bill’s co-author, along with Ed Markey — were boxed in by none other than one of the more intellectually and politically open members of that august body, self-styled Socialist Bernie Sanders (I-VT), and Ben Cardin (D-MD).

Mr. Sanders’ high-profile support for the program moving individual energy use decisions from producers and consumers to the benevolent state requires no commentary. But it is Mr. Cardin who caught my eye, for reasons relating to his own candor.
Just last week, Sen. Kerry said that he actually does not know what “cap-and-trade” means, by way of explaining that he’s just going to avoid talking about his bill in those terms. This may have something to do with the public’s increasing understanding of what cap-and-trade means. Possibly Maryland’s junior Senator can help refresh the distinguished gentleman from Boston’s memory:
In Cardin’s pithy distillation captured by none other than the Washington Post (which, oddly, hasn’t made much of the illuminating admission since), it is “the most significant revenue-generating measure of our time.”
We don’t have tax increases any more, of course. But we’ve got plenty of “revenue-generating measures”. Cap-and-trade just happens to be the biggest in our lifetime. I hope this helps, Senator.

Since the supporting AGW science is now non-existence, the UN has a choice, fold 'em or lie.
Kerry's not lying. He probably really doesn't know what cap and trade is. Nor does he know the intricacies of climate science, economics, or business. He doesn't know how to successfully write or sponsor legislation either since he's never done it before in his entire Senate career. He does know that the radical environmental lobby wants this legislation.
Christopher Horner understands Cap and Trade and writes good articles on it. Isn't it interesting that if Cap and Trade passes, a whole new trading platform will be put in place, a whole new paradigm to trade intangibles,
foo-foo dust, Carbon Credits. Where will this new business be set up? New York? Wall Street? Washington? No.
It will be set up in CHICAGO at the CBT ( Chicago Board of Trade).
Can you imagine all of the Republican political commercials that will be made in 2010, these idiots will have a staring role in their own demise.
This is not a tax, tax. Not a rape rape.
Our wallets will be raped and we won't even have a kiss.
I wonder if Kerry has even read it.
…….and you will be schtooped so quickly, that you won't even know that you had sex. Ah yes, Hope and Change; lay back, grit your teeth and enjoy. The Democrat orgy is in full swing. It will make Roman Polanski look like an alter boy…….
I am starting to rethink my views on Mr. Obama. Caligula is a more fitting persona……….
An open letter to Senators Barbara Boxer and John Kerry
Senators,
I'm pleased to see you will be co-sponsoring the senate climate bill. I do have a few questions however.
1) The president had only called for a 14 % cut in emissions, the house a 17 % cut. Your bill calls for a 20% cut by 2020. How did the House and the president get it so wrong?
2) How many degrees cooler will the earth be as a result of a 20% cut in greenhouse emissions?
3) The bill you are sponsoring is currently 684 pages. Are you going to read it at some point?
4) Who is actually writing the bill, and what makes them qualified to write a law which regulates emissions, when a majority of climatologists take the position there is no clear evidence that human activity is at all responsible for climate change?
5) Is your sponsoring this bill in any way motivated by concern about climate change or is it purely about the destruction of the capitalist system?
6) I’m not as concerned about the emission of greenhouse gasses as I am White House gasses. Do you have any pending legislation intended to cut those emissions?
Yes, Senator Boxer and Senator Kerry, I’m pleased you will be co-sponsoring the senate climate bill- it’s one more outrage voters will remember when they walk into the voting booth in 2010.
This is going to be one of the most facinating trends we have seen. Increase the size of government on the backs of industry. The energy industry represents the industrial oxigen for the economy. It is only natural that the government would want to tax us for it. I would guess that water would be next. Here are a couple of links to annalysis of the various bills. One common theme in all, the price of energy goes up, the GDP goes down, and we don't reduce CO2.

Ok, let's review:
Gov't take over of healthcare
Gov't take over of the Financial System
Gov't take over of energy generation
Gov't take over of land use
Gov't take over of garage sales
What's left?
This bill is the polar opposite of what our country needs and what the American people want. Poll after poll show overwhelming support for energy independence, which is only arrived at by utilizing our own natural resources, something that Democrats vehemently oppose.
What we need is a comprehensive energy bill that promotes drilling for oil and natural gas, fast-tracks the construction of nuclear power plants and oil refineries, and repeals any environmental regulation that's based on the disproven theory of man-made climate change. Any politician who suggests anything other than these basic, common-sense solutions to our energy needs doesn't understand the issue.
I've heard the Sen. Kerry was a straight D student. It explains why he doesn't understand what Cap and Trade mean.
Robin at American Thinker has an excellent piece today on this topic.

Here's the full circle:
- Algore is a partner in Kleiner Perkins (one of the major venture capitalist firms in silicon valley)
- He promotes government policies that will force consumers to adopt alternate energy
- He uses his government connections to get loans from the taxpayers to fund a large portion of the risk of his investments
- He and his co-investors maintain equity control and will get all the upside if the technology is successful
IOW, his companies that will benefit when we are forced to buy their products are financed by us, while he and his co-investors will reap the profit. It worked for the mortgage business with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac – so why not do it with energy?
you must understand the kerry type,in the 70's he HEARD stories about vietnam and ran with them to the congress and senate(where he made friends). he made himself out to be a war hero,(eat shit and die young kerry) who steps off in starched fitigues in a hot LZ . then he breaks the cardinal rule–what happens in the field stays in the field, handle it within….. so he marries money and a liberal piece of dog shit is born. now look at boxer, she will sell America out for a 240v dildo and a big mac. now you have crap and give American jobs away trade. just that simple folks. the worst part is WHO or WHAT voted them into office.welfare gimme gimmes?
How dare these politicians think they can play God. Mother Nature has heated and cooled our planet on her own for many years and it will continue. For politicians to think they can do a better job is sorta like original sin when Lucifer decided he also would be a better god!
Cap and trade is code for tax:

John Kerry changed the name of the Cap and Tax bill due to the profoundly negative effect the new term was assuming. He has changed it to “pollution reduction and investment,” or “PRI.” So, I think it’s time we rebranded his cute phrase. I have some ideas:
Proven to Reduce Investment
Progressive Reduction of Investment
Progressive Raid on Investment
Progressive’s Rape of Industrialism
I hope that gets everyone started. Have fun!

I thought of one more……"provision for a reduction in investment"

More money for the governmet, to make it bigger, bigger, bigger…which is exactly what the liberals want
And of course, they brainwash people with their environmental extremism at the same time….its a twofor!!!
Thanks Dr Horner for your work in educating the public-at-large.
I've always wondered how an accounting procedure (carbon credits) could ever reduce co2 anywhere.
And how come the polar icecaps of Mars have been retreating/expanding along with Earth's. Since when has Mars had suv's?
It seems only Progressive politicians are the doomsayers.
the only way to meet the 20% reduction is if everyone in the US stops driving a car in 5 years.

Senator John Heinz must have been spinning in his grave for many years now. The man that should have been POTUS and the wife of Teresa Heinz that ran for the Office is a GREAT AMERICAN TRAGEDY.
Nice post. Good information. How do I sign up for your RSS feed? Appreciate any help, I’m kind of new to all of this Internet stuff…Thanks…
