Obama’s EPA: In a Classroom Near You
by Christopher C. Horner
Pavlik Morozov’s life exemplified the duty of all good Soviet citizens to become informers. Although his story didn’t end well (nor did that of his parents), the concept for which he will ever carry the banner lives on. For example, this week we read that the Obama administration’s Environmental Protection Agency is working with – surprise! – grant-receiving community organizer types to, ah, “educate” and send forth tens of thousands of little eco-pioneers to audit their parents’ adherence to preferred lifestyle decisions.
Our “enviro” crowd hopes to sniff out whether parents are being sufficiently green, via tactics reminiscent of the old reds.
The latest odious stunt by Big Green – whose ranks include enablers in Big Government standing to gain as much or more from imposition of Green Statism as any other vested interest – moves beyond their avowed goals of “getting them young” and engaging the young for their “pester power”. I detailed this growing use of children, and even enlisting them to report back on their parents, in my “Poisoning the Little Ones” chapter of “Red Hot Lies: How Global Warming Alarmists Use Threats, Fraud, and Deception to Keep You Misinformed”.
There, I wrote of EPA’s escalating involvement in such projects springing up around the country whereby the organized left teams up its affiliate global warming indoctrination industry with the education establishment. Results have included assigning the writing of hate mail to “skeptics” as formal classroom work, and other fun activities like serving as props for environmental and even more outwardly political rallies. In California, certain school systems had asked the students to audit their parents, make certain lifestyle demands on them and report back how many complied.
Mere grades, not the Earth, hung in the balance, though the practice served as a very big red banner. And now, as with so much else wrong with the Golden State, it has come to Washington on its way out to the rest of us.
The model rolled out this week in a press release by the Environmental Protection Agency is breathtaking in its familiarity. First, in its announcement “EPA Promoting ‘Go Green’ in 6,000 Schools”, we learned that “[t]he U.S. Environmental Protection Agency kicked off events to ‘Change the World, Start with Energy Star,’ encouraging children and their families to fight climate change while saving energy and money.” Energy Star is of course the federal government’s project to push – apparently, even through creative marketing tie-ins – certain home appliances. Current administration favorite General Electric, for example, having failed to dump its appliance line in an attempt to restore profitability, would do well if enough parents were hectored to trade in the washer, drier, refrigerator, etc. that draws school-assigned ire of the little green men (and women).
It goes beyond helping companies sell newer and more expensive products. As part of its “Fall Tour to Help Americans Fight Climate Change and Save Money”, under EPA’s guidance, kids “in 60 locations are conducting energy check-ups at homes and in their communities and educating their peers and families about energy efficiency.”
In our society we expect children to learn values from their parents. Our people and their values drive our government. Apparently, however, we’ve had things backward.
Obama’s administration has chosen another social model, from another time: its Mother EPA inserts itself as parent to instill the state’s values in the children, and to have them not only to take it home but “audit” and essentially squeal on the uncooperative. There’s a larger cause to be served, after all.
In the United Kingdom, when the state required children to view Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth” as educational material, a parent, Stuart Dimmock, took Her Majesty’s Government to court, and won. The government was unable to support any of the eleven money claims on which the court heard three days of evidence. The High Court dismissed such “Change the World” global warming alarmism subtly, holding for example that Gore’s claims “arise in the context of alarmism and exaggeration in support of his political thesis”, are “distinctly alarmist” (re: Greenland melt and sea level rise) and that “there is a view to the contrary, i.e. (at least) the mainstream view”.
Employing the schools to indoctrinate on Big Green’s “global Salvationism” is reprehensible. The push-back to Big Green-Big Government Complex begins where they are behaving most egregiously, in the schools.

Today they turn against toilet tissues. it is a massive waste in the west. I suggest they use the new York Times which generates 572 pounds of paper each year per subscription. Even the largest family can't consume 572 pounds of charmin.
Remember today is thursday. The extremists bathe today. Don't worry about shaking hands with the greenie the day they take a bath. Is today also the day they flush the toilet?
Christopher Horner writes an excellent article regarding the enviro-crowd. Here is another interesting piece of the puzzle regarding Drummond Pike and the Tides Foundation. it seems they have enough clout to MAKE ABC news kill a story on environmental extremism. Read the full report; who do we find in it? Teresa Heinz Kerry, George Soros et al. The environmental wacko crowd poses the single greatest threat to civilization as we currently know it. They are content to roll US backwards one hundred years. Oh what a tangled web we weave………………

wow, no wonder how kids today can't read and write, and have absolutely no knowledge of history. they don't have time with all the no bullying, sex ed, and green classes. who knows we might have to start a new place to send children to learn how to read and write, i wonder what we can call this place, and how long before it is messed up?
Good article on EPA enviro-wacko pay. They get paid more than Vice president Biden! (although he isn't worth much, but he should receive a stipend for entertainment value)

Will the madness ever stop? Saw a video yesterday where elementary kids where being thought a song with the main verse being barrack hussein obama.
The schools aren't the only place doing this. My little girl is two. She frequently watches the disney channel as I did at her age. However, in between scenes from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, I discovered a disney sponsored commercial. It was telling kids to turn up the thermostat during the summer. At the very end, it did mention to ask your parents first. How long will it be until this little qualifier is dropped? What business does the Disney channel have in what temperature I keep my house at?!!! Holy Crap! Are they serious?

This indoctrination of our Children is ridiculous. My son starts school next year, and I am purposely going to let him go to public school so I can sue the school when they try to indoctrinate my son.
COMMUNISM
The bigger question is how much longer will parents continue to send their children to known places of indoctrination. I always wondered how Hitler got to the youth. Were the parents asleep? Apparently it will happen here too. Everyone is shocked,… SHOCKED but no one is moved to action. Parents turn a blind eye thinking either
1) my school/teacher is good; all the others are bad,
2) I can "undo" the harm done at school even though I only see them for 5 hours a day (generous estimation) much of which time is engaged in an extra-curricular activity, doing homework, eating dinner, or taking baths.
The inconvenient facts are that your child will be influenced most by the person(s) your child is around. Is it you? Unknown teachers? Unknown peers?
Your children will vote like Romans if you send them to Caesar's schools. Wake up to action!!! Get them out now. Send them to a trusted private school or homeschool them. …Or get what you get and don't have a fit when they are pulling your plug.
Barrack Hussein Obama; Hope and Change! here is the hope and change for today:

He just sold US out to the UN.
Good luck with that….
This is right out of "1984"
Absolutely right on farm subsidies. Have you ever looked into New Zealand? They phased out farm subsidies. It hurt a little at first to adapt, but now they have no subsidies and their farms are very prosperous.
It's why my kid's are in private schools, it's a financial drain that I can't afford but the alternative is horrifying, they are so far ahead intellectually compared to thier public school peers that it's amazing, they are not smarter, just actually being taught vs. indoctrinated.
My friends kids come home with this all the time "Daddy your not recylcing right" etc. The left finds using children as pawns in their political efforts "Cute" which shows the stupidy of the left once again.
The only upside is that those little darlings will probably be the ones tying a blindfold around mommies eyes, I am not suggesting people will be shot, that would eco-damaging, they will simply be blugeoned to death and burried in the freedom garden, probably while little Johnnie sings the Obamanation anthem.
This is the bright and shining future that those in power dream of every night, normal democrats and republicans better wake up and realize what's coming our way and get rid of the corrupticians and radicals including all of their lackeys before it's too late.
2010 – The year we take back out country
Are they teaching our children how to wipe their ass without using toilet paper?
"The Lives of Others" arrives in the American republic…
I would like to know a lot more about the Serra club, they are looked upon as the watch dogs of the planet, there has to be a lot going on, just like with ACORN they stay hidden until they get on TV an tell everyone the sky is falling ..
Every time I start to doubt my husband's and my endurance to keep homeschooling something like this or the "Ode to Obama" comes up. Our kids are depending on us to teach them to read, write, and think. If all they needed was indoctrination we could just use huge televisions with cute green puppets.
Ya, I was just kidding, he is going to be home schooled. My son's freedom of thought is more important then suing any school
For years, I've used the shows I do as an opportunity to inspire parents to get more involved and turn the tables on marketers going directly for our children with adult-themed fashions / products (so much is going on under the radar of parents – in the marketplace, at school, etc.). The reference here to "pester power" is made more ominous if you read Schor's book, Born To Buy (she's a woman who went "behind the scenes" in a NY marketing co. for three years to gather info. on how marketers are going directly for our children – & they no long employ marketing / business intern consultants, they employ consultants from areas like psychology / sociology, etc.- let's just say, a LOT goes under the radar of parents and this pester power is a significant weapon / tool they use extremely successfully, a la geurilla marketing tactics, which is a very appropriate description given to their activity).
Philip,
In that song, they also said.
"Forget my daddy and my momma"
So much is happening in our public schools – this is not new, it's just… parents are WAKING UP. One teacher told me she WISHES parents would get more involved – says things like how it would be great if the fire marshalls DIDN'T give the principal a "heads up" as to when inspection was coming (so the teachers wouldn't be phoned up and given time to hide chords, etc. – then, maybe the real safety hazards would be…FIXED). Sadly, without parents, teachers are in straightjackets – it's VERY top-down and they've learned to hear/see/speak no evil for their own survival, is my understanding. NOT ALL TEACHERS like what's being shown, etc. but they NEED PARENTS VOICES.
Also, not every PTA is interested in "rocking the boat" – in many cases, many well-intentioned moms wind up becoming part of a social club in many schools – the dynamics of women play a role in this slippery slope I believe (I know, I'm bad… but, in such cases, they deserve to be called the "boobs on the ground" – only real moms willing to stand up and ROCK THAT BOAT have the right to be called the "boots on the ground," on behalf or OUR (not the "system's") children
. I LOVE that so many moms are now stepping up and speaking out – even if that comes at a social cost (which it does – I've written about the social bullying tactics of women on my blog). KEEP OPENING your mouths moms and dads!! And it's SO important that dads give the moms their verbal support, each time a mom does the right / brave thing, by opening her mouth and speaking the truth. Men are so incredibly important!!!
Great feature – will spread the word!
I have a copy of a quiz the Department of Education delivered to schools prior to Obama's speech. I will be posting it soon, along with the concerns of the High School student that was forced to take it. Pretty disturbing stuff.
The just-cancelled TV series "King of the Hill" did an episode probably ten years ago based on just this premise. The lead character Hank's son Bobby was taught by one of his teachers to follow his parents around and write them tickets for environmental infractions. In that fictional case it was just a renegade teacher encouraging his pupils to turn informer for the good of the planet.
Now, in real life, we have the federal government indoctrinating students on the new green religion. Wonderful. I suppose parents can now expect a summons to environmental court from their little Obamanauts. Life really does imitate art.
You need to research the Sierra Club, and the Nature Conservancy. They are probably the two worst organizations that there are. They hide behind their tax exempt 501(c)(3) status. They milk the general public with their warm, touchy-feely-do-gooder propaganda, and it is nothing more than hyperbolic bullshit.
They have done more to destroy private property rights than any other organizations. They are run by trust fund limosine liberal fascist militants. It is apalling what they have done to injure this country, and OUR people. If you are truly interested, and research them, you will be apalled at what you discover……
I'm picturing the little kid saying, "your a thought criminal"
Just wait until they start wearing black neck scarves like the children did during the Pol Pot regime………
I live in Texas in a more rural area and my kids fortunately do not get the indoctrination like they seem to elsewhere. There is some, but it is still manageable. We were given the opportunity to opt-out of the Obama speech, which we did. Many districts did not ever show it. To counter Obama speech, they had Freedom Week and our kids memorized part of the Declaration of Independence. They learned about the founders and freedom, not big government.
Education should start at home, talk to your children beginning when they are still in diapers, let them know how much you care and any and all questions are encouraged. My children are out of the school system, but one day my grandkids will be entering that arena, I hope and pray this will not be policy but you can believe they will already know where their parents, grandparents and all who love them stand.
Be involved be very involved!!!!!
they want to control us by using out childern, sounds like Germany in the 30's, turn your parents in and be good little socialists now it's starting "we the people" need to put an end to it. call special elections and vote that trash out of Washington and get our country back.
Nick Jr. has a cartoon anthropomorphizing the Earth: "She does this, she does that… We have to take care of her 'cause she's our friend…"
I got busted when the g-son began yelling at the TV: 'The Earth is not a person!" and told his parents Mimi said so.
Bring back the Sears Roebucks catalogs! They worked great for generations of Americans.
They will also go well with the "composting outhouses" that will be so wonderful for the environment, just wait for your favorite celebrity eco-mentalist to install one next to their mansion. Should make for an interesting run at 3AM in the dead of winter from the third floor master bedroom. Maybe Michelle can place one next to her White House garden, show all of us little people how easy it is to "go green" for healthier living by a healthier environment. Hey, it should make sense to them!
The importance of DADS getting involved cannot be overstated. But then, our "progressive" society —perhaps for self-serving reasons— tends to regard fathers as superfluous.
I actually had to do a report on farm subsidies in other countries. The UN is killing alot of their farms with subsidies, while New Zealand is flourishing. It was interesting as far as Econ reports go.
A semi-serious joke a high school history teacher once told me:
"There's good news and bad news.
The bad news is that the history texts are full of soft-left distortions of American history.
The good news is that most of my students can't read them."
For those who are not able to home school there is an option. Arm your children with the ability to think critically. Teach them how to fact check everything they are told, question everything. Teach them to record everything, even if they just take notes. Before long you will have a child who is a liberal teachers worse nightmare, a child who is more capable and competent than the one charged with 'educating' him. It does work, even in the most hostile of environments. It does take time, effort and resolve. Even if your child has to play the public education game, he is at least armed with the ability to recognize propoganda.
There is a story in the old Soviet Union about this kid who finked on his own father, who hated Stalin. The kid reported him and the old man was arrested and shot. This kid was given a medal, Stalin made him a Soviet hero, they even built a statue of this kid. He was sent to live with his grandfather who was the father of the boy's father that Stalin killed for counter revolutionary comments.
Years later this kid was still a Soviet celebrity and in the Soviet Army and his grandfather was dying of some sickness or old age. One day the grandfather killed this kid, his own grandson for killing his son. The grandfather died and when the Soviet Union fell, family members and people from this kids neighborhood torn down this statue of this kid who finked on his own Dad.
Going Green is such a joke. It actually costs more to produce green products and uses almost twice the energy. People need to understand that going green is purely a marketing scheme to line the pockets of ALGore and his cohorts, who all sit on the boards of the major green manufacturers like GE.

This is truly nothing new. The Green Indoctrination is in full swing on Children's "Educational" TV.
"Go, Diego, Go", a spin-off of "Dora the Explorer" shown on "Noggin" and "Nickolodeon", is nothing more than a pro-enviro/anti-people/anti-predator indoctrination series, hiding behind the facade of teaching kids the "diversity of animals". Each show features a "Charasmatic" species that "Needs Rescuing". (No slugs or sand-fly maggots here, only the cute and cuddly make the cut). Diego, who speaks to the animals ala Dr. Doolittle, rushes out to save the poor creature in peril.
Some of the animals are being pursued by their natural predators, and the prey animal is always "afraid" of the predatory species. A nice kicker: The predators NEVER EAT, as they neve actually capture the prey item. (Not "Wild Kingdom" by a longshot…)
In the end, Diego always saves the day, and all is right and green with the world.
Part II: I was told the original was too big, so here goes:
Also seen on "Noggin" are between the shows spots with an animate moose and bird. Most of the pieces are educational, but thrown in are more than a few ones where the characters are "Eco-Rangers", "saving the planet one click at a time". They're even rolled out a project called "Big Green Help", where kids are encouraged to pick up trash, plant trees, etc.

It all seems rather innocent on the surface, but again it's just another form of Leftist indoctrination that must be stopped if we are to preserve our country as something the founders would recognize.
Two of our five children are in public school, and we are desperately trying to get our butts in gear to homeschool them in the next year.
Our oldest spent 6 months of his 2nd grade year learning Black History Month last year. It didn't help that his teacher was a proud African-American Obama voter. . . posters of Obama were plastered all over her room. At least once every week over dinner, he would seriously say, "Dad, you know that black man invented the potato chip, don't you?"
Actually you CAN undo the indoctrination, force fed your child/children. It just takes work, which far too few parents are willing to do.
Parents are supposed to be their children's first teachers; but, that job doesn't/should NOT end when they are sent off to school!
"Pester power" has been tried for a long time; at least 30 years, in public AND all manner of private schools.
It didn't/still doesn't work on me and never shall.
Parents need to stop trying to be thgeir children's "friends" and be their PARENTS !
I'm NOT "green", will NEVER be "green", and nobody will EVER "perster" me into being "green"!
I raised a very conservative kid, who is raising her child, with a conservative husband, so I know that my grandchild will be okay, no matter what might come. And yes, my grandchild is in private school.
Just what i suspected…..and have known…
Obama is a communist dictator.
Thats why Quadaffi, Chavez, Ahmadinijhad, Putin, and the Castro brothers like him so much………HE IS ONE OF THEM!
The environmental extremist nutcases can kiss my a**
If i wanna drive an SUV that gets 2 miles to the gallon, thats my freaking RIGHT!!!
Parents can stop this nonsense. When my children were in school I knew what they did in every class every day. If something nefarious was going on my kids would tell me all about it. I would have known about the Obama worship song immediately because my kids would have told me all about it.
All parents have to do is show up en masse at every PTA meeting, public school function, school board meeting, town council meeting and SCREAM BLOODY MURDER. If the school board doesn't listen band together and vote them out of office next election and let them know you are going to do so.
We can turn the table on the leftists, all we have to do is start sthowing up in large numbers.
If you truly want to "go green" there are a lot of things you can do. But they aren't easy or cheap. I was in the energy efficient home building business in the 80s. Here are a few things everyone/anyone can do:
1. Install a solar hot water heater. (saves roughly 22% of energy usage, payback is roughly 3 years)
2. Have an energy audit done and find all the places where heat is flowing in and out of the house and fix these places with things like weatherstripping, caulking, foam insulation, etc. (can save up to 20% energy usage, payback is 1 to 3 years depending on what has to be done).
3. Install a rain water harvesting system and use rain water for washing clothes, toilet flushing, watering the lawn, etc. (saves 80% of water bill and payback can be in as little as 3 years).
4. Use your free hot water and heat your home with hot water. Will require buying a special heating unit and may require installing pipes in the crawlspace or attic. Depending on how cold it gets in your area this could save 20 to 40% of energy usage. Payback can be in 3 to 7 years.
I could go on and on but if you look up the costs of doing an of these things you can see that they run in the thousands of dollars.
What is interesting to me is that the "green movement" never talks about things like that that would actually do something. They only ever talk about nonsensical things that will either make the situation worse or have nil effect.
For example, if every hot water heater in the country was supplemented with a solar hot water heater that would save 22% of the energy usage in the country. Solar lighting could save another 12%. This would exceed the goal of cap and trade by 14%. This would be very easy to do, wouldn't cost a lot (comparatively) and could be completed in a very short time frame. A lot of unemployed construction workers could be put to work in the process.
But the green movement NEVER talks about policies like this.
When I saw the kids indoctrination video…..i thought to myself….”Whoa, did i just teleport to North Korea??”
Obama and Kim Jong Il….BFFL!
BIG GOVERNMENT:

Big Finance

The regulatory framework in everything that the government touches suppresses competition and entrenches the establishment. The favor is returned in entrenching the incumbency of democratic politicians (D's mostly, but R's too). The relationship between government and industry entrenches both: the more regulations, the more rules, the harder it is to compete. It is called "barriers to entry". This vile, costly, oppressive.
I have long said, if you want to do the most good for the most people in the wold, phase out the agricultural subsidies we pay.
That's only a start though.
It is easy enough to teach children what a joke the "green movement" is.
Take their screaming about CAFE standards and their wanting to criminalize owning an SUV>
The European car makers have been making an engine that gets 55 miles per gallon for years. The engine is a turbo diesel engine, known as TDI (Turbo Direct Injection Diesel). Most cars sold in Europe use this engine. The engine is illegal in the United States. Why? Because the EPA complains about the amount of particulate matter (whatever that is) that the engine puts out. They totally ignore that replacing a vehicle getting 15 MPG with a vehicle getting 55 MPG greatly offsets this requirement. The Europeans have much stricter clean air requirements than we do. So why is the TDI engine accepted in Europe but the EPA says that it emits too much "particulate matter" for us to use it here in the US. Simple, the diesel fuel used in Europe is CLEAN. The diesel fuel used in the United States is extremely dirty. What the EPA should do is make the refineries clean up the diesel fuel. Then the TDI 55 mile per gallon engine would be perfectly acceptable.
So, when the "green" ideologues scream about CAFE standards why do they never mention the TDI engine and the need to clean up the diesel fuel? Is it because they don't really care about the environment? Or, is it because they are not intelligent enough to figure all this out? Or is there some other agenda on their part keeping them from coming to this obvious conclusion?
Volkswagen is currently building a modified version of the TDI but it gets very low mileage compared to its European brother. the reason is that the EPA forced Volkswagen to burn off the "bad" particulate matter and capture the residue in a device similar to the catalytic converter. But again the question remains, why not just clean up our diesel fuel?
Actually, the EPA was created by the Nixon administration back in 1970…so it's not really "Obama administration’s Environmental Protection Agency".

Now teachers are supposed to instruct their students on how to get their parents and neighbors to paticipate in the census in 2010.
http://www.census.gov/schools/index.html
http://2010.census.gov/partners/pdf/factSheet_Cen...
This is actual text from the census.gov materials:
http://www.census.gov/schools/pdf/materials/cis_l...
An Advocacy Campaign
As students become more knowledgeable about the census, they may want to help educate the rest of your community. Encourage them to get the word out by using:
Brochures
Posters
Town hall meetings
Web sites or blogs
Text messaging
Public access television stations . .
. .. .. .. .. .
Action extension
Now that students understand what the census is, challenge them to accompany an adult to a town or school meeting to encourage participation in the 2010 Census. Invite them to design special posters, bumper stickers, or buttons, as well as present the local information they researched. They may want to attend an informational meeting in your area sponsored by the U.S. Census Bureau.
Bring this worksheet home and interview two different adults about the census. See what you find out!
Adult #1 name:
Has he or she participated in the census before?
Why or why not?
If yes, what years?
Getting Started
1. Remind students that the United States takes a census of its population every 10 years. Accurate population information is needed to allocate funds for many federal, tribal, state, and local programs and community services.
2. Write the phrase "It’s About Us" on the board and ask students to share what they think it means. Record some of their ideas.
Did you teach your family anything about the census? If so, what?
Display for students the 2010 Census slogan, "It’s in Our Hands," and ask them to discuss how the slogan might encourage people to participate in the 2010 Census.
Distribute It’s About You Student Worksheet 3b. Ask students to use this worksheet to plan their campaign. Provide class time for group work.
Work with students to deliver their presentations through presentation software slides, a web page, blogs, radio, television, or newspaper announcements. Enlist your school administration and local media to publicize the students’ message.
8. Contact your regional Census Bureau office (http://www.census.gov/field/www/) for any necessary guidance or assistance.
Work with students to monitor the results of their community’s response rate online at http://www.census.gov in March and April of 2010. Have students provide ongoing local participation updates and analysis to the community through morning announcements, text messaging, a web page, blogs, and radio, television, or newspaper announcements.
Now work with the members of your group and brainstorm ways to help convince people in your community about the importance of the census.
develop statements to encourage people to participate in the 2010 Census.
Gather any other information you think will help encourage people to participate.
Next, teachers will have an April 15 lesson on the importance of paying taxes – "Take this assignment home to your parents and make sure they are paying their fair share"
Are you suggesting they should instead be bullying others and polluting?
