Big Government the Wrong Answer on Health Care
by Carly FiorinaLast weekend Democrats in the U.S. Senate took another step toward passing their government run healthcare legislation. The more we have come to learn about this legislation, the more we all have cause to be concerned about this plan. It fundamentally does not focus on patients or on quality care. In fact, it is a fiscal albatross for our already ballooning federal budget deficit.

This proposal will cost taxpayers up to $2.5 trillion, create a massive new entitlement, raise taxes, add to the federal deficit and fail to solve our nation’s health care crisis. It is the kind of big government answer that we have come to expect from Democrats, particularly my opponent, Barbara Boxer. It is the same answer that has proven to fail this country time and time again.
Among the many problems with this legislation, of significant concern is the impact it will have on the ability of doctors and individuals to make decisions about care, particularly for women. Last week a government appointed panel issued a set of recommendations regarding mammograms and self-exams for women in their 40s and 50s. Specifically, this panel discouraged women from self-exams, said women in their 40s should not get annual mammograms as is currently advised, and recommended women in their 50s get mammograms just every two years. As a breast cancer survivor who found my own cancer through a self-exam just two weeks after a routine mammogram, I was alarmed. To be honest, if I had followed these recommendations I am not sure what my own prognosis would have been.
This panel’s recommendations were more about costs than about saving the lives of women from one of the most common and treatable cancers our nation. While the Obama Administration tried to calm the outrage created by these recommendations by saying they were just recommendations, Democrats in Congress were moving to give this very same panel more power over healthcare through the bill they moved forward with this weekend.
This bill actually gives much more power to this very same government panel. In fact, this panel would play a role in determining what care and preventative tests should be covered under the new system Washington seeks to create. In short, it is a serious step toward government intervention and away from patient and doctor control over individual healthcare decisions.
This is the kind of approach we have come to expect over the last year. Whether it was with the stimulus package or this health reform package, the Democrats’ clear solution is more government intervention and more government spending. As a businessperson I look at these programs and ask “what were the results?” The answer: massive deficit spending, higher unemployment and more government involvement in our lives.
Rather than continue down this path toward approving a bill that prioritizes politics over quality healthcare, our leadership should put problem-solving over politics. Any change to our health care system should pursue solutions that would ensure quality of care, better access to quality health insurance, and stimulate competition in the health insurance market. These goals can be achieved by pursuing free market solutions instead of more big government.

This healthcare fiasco will affect all people in a very personal way if passed. Health insurance premiums and taxes will skyrocket. The availability of health services will suffer.
It seems most everything BO is doing has the ability to affect me in a very personal way. I work, pay taxes and give to charity. Please just leave me alone.

Tell you what else it will change. If you think people with money are going to just get in line with the rest of us, you don't know how supply and demand works. This bill will create the demand for a black market in medicine. Any time the government makes something unavailable, someone will make it available for a cost.
This bill will do for healthcare what prohibition did for liquor.
And the say there is no Death Panels, OK it is called a health commission that should save your life with that name change.
Carly why not run as a Democrat.
You wrecked HP, extorted them for 21 million to leave and are now resorting to race & gender baiting the more serious Republican candidate.
Your financial wizardry, vanity, ego and political tactics make you a natural Democrat. I am sure they would embrace you.

Carly Fiorina recently made disgusting racial and gender comments regarding her candidacy for Senate. I hope she is not allowed to post on the site again. I would not be surprised if she is tied to ACORN or other groups.
There must be a way to serve the uninsured without destroying our health care system. I had my ANNUAL, thankyou, mammogram today. There were 2 people in the first waiting room, no people in the second waiting room, and thanks to pre-telephone registration I was done in 30 minutes. This wont happen under Obama Care. Waiting Room 1 and Waiting Room 2 will be stuffed with angry people being served by Govt trained workers who are doing health care work at low wages, like Acorn folks, just because that will be the only work they can get.
however, there were absolutely NO magazines in either waiting room, because they help spread h1n1 among other diseases. I had to read a flier on a health magazine. Ick.
And to think these Acorn workers could get a shredder? Ha, in the videos I have seen there is hardly a tape dispenser, stapler, or one pack of Post-Its on their wobbly desks. These people are being used. For very evil purposes.
Fiorina is a RINO. Support Chuck Devore.
Thank you, Carly, for weighing in, but, "free market solutions" aren't an option when a well orchestrated socialist coup is underway here. A nice platitude, but, that horse has left the barn. Or, better put, was thrown out of the barn.
I'd love to hear from you as to why so many of your CEO peers sold their souls to this mediocre and harmful socialist? Why so many of them fund capitalist hating Democrats that will do us all in? Why no CEO of any gravitas has denounced the corruption, cronyism, and bad ideas, the undermining of capitalism especially, of this administration and congress?
This disaster is the perfect storm of media, corporate, Republican and voter hubris. The captains of capitalism in this country seem to have planned their own demise. They are part of the problem. How stupid is that.
And Chuck Devore isn't? Ask Chuck if he'll abolish the 17th amendment. Guess what his answer is? How about enforcing the 30,000 rule. I bet Chuck says Hell, no. What does that tell you?
Hey Carly. If you're elected will you abolish the 17th amendment how about supporting the 30,000 rule? What is the true difference between you and Boxer. If you answer No to both questions then you are just another problem to our US Constitution. Have no idea what I'm talking about Read Article 1 Section 2 US Constitution.
Sounds like she is trying to be important.
We're going to get inferior care for 10x the cost, Medicare will be cut, doctors reimbursements will be cut and innovation will be stifled. So who benefits? The federal govt. These leftwing tyrants won't be satisfied until they control every aspect of your life. The thieves and liars in DC say we need to nationalize healthcare to get 28 million insured. It would be cheaper to get them all a private plan. This is about consolidating power for the govt.
Revolution 2010. Throw out every democrat and rino; they've been an unmitigated disaster for this country.
Ms. Fiorina,
I don't know if the current mentality is "shoot the messenger" or not. While not a fan of yours, I believe you are the consummate political animal, whether that be the board room, Wall Street, or the Hallsof Politics. I think you are a RINO. With that being said, your article has some valid points in it, and I read it with an open mind. Here is a valid point: your article cites the government involvement regarding "self examination". Why shouldn't the government tell a woman when she can touch her breast? They can tell a woman if she can have an abortion……….
Personally, the Government should have NO RIGHTS in legislating these things.
Lastly, I'd like to give you the beneift of the doubt, regarding your reasons for posting your article here. My head tells me you are doing so, because Breitbart and Big Government.com is now the hottest ticket in town since a free pass at the Senate Gallery, and pretty soon, everyone with an agenda, pandering for a vote will be here…..
Correct about the privileged getting what they need and leaving us in the dust. Welcome to the old Soviet Union, Cuba and Argentina
Got a link to that? You need one. Otherwise your comment has no merit.
Good questions! We need a representative gvt that does represent us, not get perks for our states, known as pork. We need people inside who are willing to step up and expose corruption. Carly could do that instead of as you say giving us platitudes.
Carly who are you, are you committed to this country first, the constitution and not empty rhetoric? Step up!
Well said! A couple of challenges have been stated for Carly Fiorina, let's see how she answers. If she will.
Yes. To be more precise, that should read "people with money and power". The privileged elected class will most certainly not stand in line with the great unwashed.

what does the 17th ammendment have to do with anything
Carly, Barbara Boxer is not your opponent yet. You still need to win the primary and there are other people running in that primary. To win the primary you must win over the voters . . like me.
Free Market solutions – yes. I agree. What else would you do to protect the best medical system in the world and to keep Medicare funded for our seniors? Please feel free to respond here in this forum.
wow breitbart, you really have become the "go to" for republicans seeking to garner conservative support. Congratulations.
Having said that, I see this post amounting to nothing but that…
She's attractive, and I think she could put up a fierce fight against Boxer, but…well, you know.

Not saying I'm sold on Carly by any stretch, but I will relate this anecdote.
Back during the Mac OS 9 to OS X transition, I had an HP printer (Still have one today, but a different model). Getting the old hardware to work with the new software was actually a PITA then, except for the HP printer. They had drivers available for download immediately. This is for OS X 10.1 and 10.2 I'm talking about (I started with 10.0!). Well, I fired of a quick THANKS! email, and Ms. Fiorina responded personally. I actually still have that email in my saved folder to this day.
I don't think many company heads would bother to respond PERSONALLY to something like that, and so it impressed me. As for her policies, I'm hoping for an evolution toward something more concretely conservative. Still, I wouldn't brush her off. She's not an enemy. Just not as staunch as many of us would like, perhaps.

They have forgotten the Constitution… Amendment 28: Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators or Representatives, and Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators or Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States..there for every law they write is illegal…it never refers to THEM only US!!!
Where are all the TRUE conservatives advocating for the complete ABOLITION of the socialist state the U.S. has become! Being against the current OBAMA CARE bill is great-but we really need true CONSERVATIVES to get rid of Medicare (aka MEDICANT), Social Security (the biggest communist enterprise ever foisted on the American people), Federal tax dollars for LIBERAL college students, etc, etc…Why won't politicians let the free market capitalist solutions work in these areas like they should!
Some silcon valley folks' thoughts on what kind of a person and leader Fiorina is:

I encourage everyone to take a look at the comments from HP employees and those familiar with this professional victim named Carly. Her incompetence and arrogance is legendary.

Well I agree as do many but lets face it, even were that amendment there now they would ignore it.
The Constitution is pretty clear and thorough, the fundamental problem is that they ignore it.
Cowboy Logic said: "I don't know if the current mentality is "shoot the messenger" or not. While not a fan of yours, I believe you are the consummate political animal, whether that be the board room, Wall Street, or the Hallsof Politics. I think you are a RINO."
Folks Cowboy is right. I worked at HP during her years. She is con artist and opportunist. We called her the "Cheerleader" because she would con out and give a great talk about all we needed to do and what she was going to do reverse HP's nosedive. She would give a great inspirational speech, then never deliver on a single action she promised she would do. After she was FIRED from HP she then had the audacity to claim victimhood because she was a female and the good old boys would not let her succeed. The board of HP is overwhelmingly Liberals and explicitly stated they were looking for a minority when she was selected.
. The board wanted her succeed so bad they waited until the HP stock went from the $60s to $12 before firing her.
Do not, do not be fooled by her ability to talk the talk…she will never deliver.

Then we need to change the 'fundamental problem'
Missed in all the uproar about breast cancer screenings is a similar recommendation regarding prostate cancer screening. Delaying care to save money is equal opportunity.
Pity. I'm damned tired of populating Congress with lawyers. Would've been nice to send another business professional to D.C. If she can't be trusted, though, what's the difference?
Hey Carly,
I heard that you were FOR governmental regulation of the Internet. You are FOR NET Neutrality. How bout that Global Warming Nonsense you believe in? now that it has been exposed a a major fraud on the people of the world are you changing you beliefes now? You sound a lot like Mitt Romney, changing with the winds…we dont want anymore RINOs in Congress….just run as a Democrat Carly you would be more electable in that venue.
Bribery or Politics?
If the healthcare legislation is so GREAT, why are the Democrats voting on it in the dark of night on a Saturday night? Why are they not presenting the facts of the bill to the American people? Is it because the numbers do not add up? The Democrats say that there is a need to pass this legislation today because thousands of people are dying because of the lack of healthcare. Yet the benefits do not go into effect until 4 years from now, so by their calculations are they going to let thousands more of Americans die? Why do they want to put people in jail for not wanting to buy health insurance? Would that even be constitutional? Why do they have to bribe certain Senators in order to get them to vote for it? Is Eric Holder going to investigate this bribe? Will the news media begin doing their job and expose this fraud? Why is it that politicians say one thing but do another, Joe Liebermann? Will the American people stand up and be heard to stop this monstrosity? These are just some questions that should be answered before proceeding with this legislation.
Greg Zotta
Tort reform and the stopping of the government accepted graft and corruption in the medicare and medicaid programs are what is needed. Not anything else. well maybe force the states to allow people to buy insurance fromout of state companies.Wake up America! The current bill gives tons of money to lawyers and tons to non-profits who will used to enforce the law and to unionize the workers. It has nothing good for the public, nothing! They can't be trusted with anything! every government program has failed big time! They say one thimng do another and write laws that do somethng else entirely. Wake Up america! They are trying to enslave your children!
Even though they have been caught lying about global warming that shill Gore and that other shill Obama are still pushing climate change bills even though there is no climate change! ITS A LIE! The UN is running this fraud in order to steal american wealth with the help of AL Gore and Obama plus dozens of the elected officals in this country. They are lining their pockets at your expense! Wake uP! Kick out every politian in Washington. Allow our trops to fight to win. Allow our children and grand children to grow up free. It is up to you. If you don't do it who will? Not your elected officials that's for sure! don't believe the repubs either because they are spending their time arguing over the langauge instead killing the bills! They are just as bad as the Denocrats! Wake Up America! Civil disobience is called for NOW! if you wait it will be too late and that's what they are counting on!
I hate reading stuff written by a person that cannot be trusted.
so the bill we pay for this is on our tax forms, and then we go to the govt. to get our health insurance, to see the doctor, surgery, etc. If you think your gonna get quality for the govt. do me a favor and shoot yourself, thank you
"Our country demands all our strength, all our energies. To resist the powerful combination now forming against us will require every man at his place. If victorious, we will have everything to hope for in the future. If defeated, nothing will be left for us to live for." — Robert E. Lee
It has everything to do with how the Senate votes. We once had a Republic. In 1913 we were given a democracy that has become an oligarchy. 300 million people are ruled by 536 people. Most of whom are neither Democrats or Republicans they just have an R or D after there names. I can tell you more if you wish. I can tell you were exactly it is in the Constitution.
Democrats in the U.S. Senate took another step toward passing their government run healthcare legislation. The more we have come to learn about this legislation, the more we all have cause to be concerned about this plan. It fundamentally does not focus on patients or on quality .
You sound like you are well-versed in Democrat attributes, is that because you ARE a Democrat ?
And how could anyone be more destructive than Senator Boxer ?
IF, on the other hand, you have proof of your charges against Carly, feel free to post the links for all to read here.
My generation was borm in freedom and I do hope that no health bill is passed with a mandate that makes us die in slavery and causes our future generations to be born in it. Some things are obvious when they are not as they should be. From daye gone by we have the emancipation out of our civil war. Presently, this health debate seem unnecessarily mirky and complicated but it will soon be made known and echo across the land the good and the bad. Some time ago a guy named Patrick Henery once said "Give me liberty or give me death". A great nation was built on that philosophy and another defeated by it

Ms. Fiorina,
Please. Honesty is the best policy. Medicare Part D now has a $17 T unfunded liability using an infinite time horizon and that is thanks to the Republican side of the Washington party. Please recall the antics and arm breaking to pass that evil in the dead of night. The current tactics for a new set of special interest payoffs and bailouts is not different. Neither side of the Washington party can be trusted with medical spending, or any spending. What article of the US Constitution authorizes the Washington party to do all they do?
In an ideal United States of America, the Washington party would return all the power they have taken from the states, close all the departments and planning bureaus, repeal the 16th and 17th amendments to the Constitution, End the Fed, repeal all the legal tender laws, permit free banking and restore a 100% gold coin standard. Please read Dr. Ron Paul's short book Gold, Peace and Prosperity (or locate the reading on YouTube.)
Given these changes no one would any longer care what happens in Washington and Wall Street. I think this would be the preferred answer for a vast majority of people. I want to live my life free of dictates, planning and coercion from Washington. It would then not be so easy for the special interests to rob us using the nearly invisible tax of inflation and currency debasement. And the best part is Life, Liberty and Property is what the founders intended.
The last thing we need is a new crop of politicians in Washington to give us their new version of the State. The State is the problem. Anti-war, Anti-state, Free-market.
In case I was not clear,
Any Government is the Wrong Answer on Health Care.
This site does good work, but often runs articles seemingly extolling questionable figures, such as Fiorina and Michelle Rhee. Just be clear that, at best, these people are not conservatives but statists with sometimes conservative sounding ideas.
Californians deserve better than a RINO. Fiorina says that she should be the GOP nominee because she's a woman. She actually said that. Really. That's her only reasoning. Chuck DeVore is the only conservative in this race. Support him at http://www.chuckdevore.com.
the 17th ammendment made it so that U.S. senators are elected by popular vote instead of being elected by the state legislature. Why do you have a problem with that.
If you can't see the corruption now, then I don't know how else to explain it. Basically, you and I and millions of Americans cannot vote out a US Senator. Only Governors and Presidents were allowed a general election prior to 1913 furthermore most congressional districts are virtually impossible to vote out the incumbent. Why do we only have 435 members of congress? The term socialist didn't exist in 1913 they were called \”progressives\” 1913 Federal Reserve, IRS, Direct Elections of US Senators, and the frozen 435 members of congress are created in 1913 despite the US Constitution forbidding it in the first place. That was when the \”democracy\” in America was created and it has been turned into an oligarchy today. I often doubt that our votes are even counted anyway especially with gerrymandering and massive amounts of fraud regarding absentee voting. Our founders saw this early on, I hope you can too someday. Remember prior to 1913 we were once a complex Republic too bad the masses are under the illusion that America is a Republic when it hasn't been for nearly 100 years.
