ACORN – 50 More Days Without Federal Funds
by Chris BergOn Thursday, the United States House of Representatives passed a continuing resolution funding the Federal Government through December 18th. The continuing resolution was passed as part of the behemoth Interior-Environment Appropriations conference report.
A continuing resolution is a stop-gap provision which allows the government to continue its operations until Congress can determine the next year’s appropriations. The actions taken today merely extended the expiration date of the resolution which went into effect on October 1st.
By extending the existing continuing resolution Congress has continued to deprive ACORN and its affiliates of federal funds until December 18th.
This is not a substitute for more definitive action. The Congress must act to pass Republican Leader Boehner’s Defund ACORN Act as stand-alone legislation. Boehner’s comprehensive legislation prevents the awarding of federal contracts, grants, cooperative agreements or any other form of agreement to this criminal organization.
ACORN ally Representative Jerrold Nadler has lead the charge against the Defund ACORN Act. He has claimed that it is an unconstitutional Bill of Attainder — an argument that has been thoroughly rebutted by former FEC Commissioner Hans von Spakovsky. Nadler had no such reservations when he co-sponsered legislation to punish AIG employees who had been awarded bonuses.
Congress moving to cut off funds to ACORN for the next 50 days is a merely a first step. An organization with ACORN’s history of voter registration fraud, tax evasion, and criminal activity should never again be eligible to receive any federal funds.
Stopping payment to this criminal enterprise is not enough. A thorough and complete investigation is necessary. Unfortunately the Obama Administration has failed to launch any meaningful investigation of ACORN.
Representative Lamar Smith has demanded that Attorney General Holder appoint a Special Counsel to investigate ACORN. Smith detailed ties between the Obama Administration and ACORN and explained that an objective investigation by the Administration is impossible. Attorney General Holder has not taken Smith’s advice.
The Department of Justice has chosen not to investigate ACORN’s criminal and fraudulent activity. The Inspector General of DOJ has chosen instead to investigate whether ACORN was awarded any grants by the agency.
The IRS and the Department of the Treasury have also resisted calls from Representative Issa and Senator Collins to launch an investigation. Treasury instead has instead decided to probe “the IRS’s oversight of tax-exempt Section 501(c)(3) organizations and Section 527 organizations.”
Curtailing government support of ACORN is important, but getting to the root of this criminal enterprise is necessary.

What is the big deal here about just permanently cutting off their funding. The group has been proven to be corrupt and therefore shouldn't be receiving any taxpayer money. These stop-gap measures are helping keep our money out of that corrupt group but we the taxpayers need a permanent measure to cut off their funding.

CON-gress acted in non avtice fashion. Nothing like taking a non stand in a partisan issue. CON-gress is gutless, but at least if ACORN is deprived of funding, one month at a tiime, we can slowly bleed them out over the course of a year. I am sure that Bertha Lewis is in panic mode about now. Now she will turn dangerous and come out swinging. Nothing like cornering a rabid dog, or a rat………..

Democrats in Congress largely rely on "voter manipulation" by ACORN and ACORN-affiliated/associated groups and influences to gain election and reelection. Thus, until there's a GOP majority in Congress who is willing to confront the abuses by ACORN and many of their multi-layered con-gaming groups scattered all over the nation, there's not going to be much change where ACORN and "federal funding" is concerned on any long-term basis (simply because Democrats need this type of gaming to maintain themselves in many elected offices).
There are centers across the nation where ACORN/associated groups are located (New Orleans, Colorado Springs, CO, San Jose, CA to name but a few) and their "layers" of organizations are so extensive as they've constructed them, that ACORN is difficult to even identify (which is part of the scamming process). The Congressional Black Caucus, the Hispanic Caucus, La Raza, most if not all of these Leftwing/Democrat associated and "race based/race-politicizing" organizations (NAACP is another, SEO is another) are all wrapped up in the same scamming.
So it's going to require some brave confrontation from a reasonable Congress to eradicate this massive con-game that ACORN has establsihed and now brought forth as being "necessary" even to our nation's voting process (it isn't but it's necessary politically for the Left).
Their housing programs should immediately be stopped, in my view, and all that funding redirected to HUD if not to many churches in locales that lack a Housing Organization, for starters.
We as a nation really, really need to clean out the whole Civil Rights groups in our government. It really should be, morally and ethically, an area of humanity that is addressed by independent, non-government persons. The Civil Rights Division (whatever it's called formally) via the Justice Dept. is entirely racist, Communist and quite corrupt. Thus, it's not going to be eager or even available as it stands to confront or even look too closely at ACORN.
Your posts are well reasoned and thought out. You are absolutely correct in your assesment; they layer these various organizations in, one on top of the other. It is a shell game. The bottom line, the mind set, consists of nothing more than "workin' da man." That is it, in a nutshell.
Do some research on the CON-gressional Black Caucus, look at the founding member. Look at the Communists that are in it, it will shock you.
Oh, where's the fun in that? I was hoping the socialists and fellow-travelling RINOs would vote to fund ACORN, thereby provoking Andrew to go to Defcon 2.

A weird thing happenned last night. A representative from ACORN knocked on our door last night, and my husband happenned to answer. She asked him to sign a petition against cutting spending for the state, and then asked for a donation. Hy husband (who is very respectful of women) politely declined using some kind of eupemism for the recent scandals. She responded by saying something to the effect of, "Well that's just Fox news. You know how Fox News is…" Has this happenned to anyone else?
Ameans to an end……………………….I want to know why our president has not said one word or has begun an investigation into this CRIMINAL ACTIVITY? Don't think it will go away-much like war crimes trials. Anyone and everyone who has broke federal/state laws needs to be held accountable. If the current president doesn't do their job-the job will just be passed on to the next president. Don't worry-you won't get away with breaking the law!
