BREAKING: Fisker Karma – Half a Billion Federal Dollars, And Only 20 Miles Per Gallon in Gas Mode… Developing…
by Capitol ConfidentialBig Government has learned of a shocking new dimension to the emerging Fisker Karma scandal: not only is the U.S. taxpayer-backed car manufactured overseas, but it is far less fuel-efficient than its main American competitor, the Chevrolet Volt.
ABC News reports this evening that the U.S. Department of Energy gave $529 million in loan guarantees to Fisker Automotive to assist in the production of the sporty Karma, a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle.
Instead of manufacturing the Karma in the United States, however, Fisker is building the electric vehicle in Finland–creating 500 jobs overseas with American taxpayers’ money:
“There was no contract manufacturer in the U.S. that could actually produce our vehicle,” the car company’s founder and namesake told ABC News. “They don’t exist here.”
Industry insiders have told Big Government that they are alarmed by another, largely unreported fact about the Fisker Karma: the car only gets 20 miles per gallon (mpg) of fuel when its gasoline engine is running.
Fisker revealed this week that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has rated the Karma at 52 MPGe (miles per gallon equivalent)–the car’s effective fuel efficiency range when its electric motor is combined with its range-extending gasoline engine.
However, Fisker communications director Roger Ormisher revealed that the gasoline engine itself only performs at 20 mpg.
Even General Motors’s Chevrolet Volt performs better, according to Green Car Reports:
The comparable figures for the 2012 Chevrolet Volt–which has a less powerful single 111-kilowatt (149-hp) drive motor and an 80-hp, 1.4-liter range extender–are 94 MPGe in electric mode, and 37 mpg on gasoline, with an electric range of 35 miles.
Insiders tell Big Government that the Fisker Karma scandal is a “green car Solyndra.”
Other sources have revealed additional details to Big Government about the scandal.

A bargain at twice the price.
$529 million, not billion. (I hope)
Green Transportation: Where the Laws of Physics collide head-on with the Laws of Economics.
If there was any pretense of justice, the US Marshals would have arrested Obama already and led him out in handcuffs.
Follow the money, it will lead back to the Democratic election coffers, or Mr. Obama directly, guaranteed.
Isn't Fisker the electric car company Algore is associated with? And who is going to buy a car with a name that some of us will take advantage of for a wide variety of jokes?
Oh, and I know we are throwing around money like it's water and can't keep track of such large numbers but, $529 billion to Fisker?
Somebody PLEASE give me one good reason we do any-damned-thing like this for ANY corporation – American or otherwise!
Just remember – these are the same people who "invest" your Social Security withholding…
Slay Leviathan before you have been consumed…
Yes. They originally pitched the whole scam to Gore first. He was one of their first investors.
If this doesn't make one pissed, I don't know what else will.
Well whats a half billion dollars in taxpayer money between friends?
16 trillion in debt and this moron saddles our kids with more debt on a fools errand. Profound stupidity!
Karma……Indeed!
You just can't make this stuff up.
Whats next? Food stamps for every man woman and child in Mexico?
starve the beast!
and they don't even make this "green" car here. we paid our money for jobs in findland, that really stimulated our economy. and a suburban is almost as energy efficient. i would rather drive a suburban, then a s-box.
I wonder who OK'd that loan?
Is this not the car company that Al Gore is involved in?
"laws don't matter except to those who abide by them" Barack Obama, (o.k. but it coulda been)
Is that an obama logo emblem in the back of that car…..? Welcome to the Edsel folks……
the problem with the gov't picking winners and losers is that it picks LOSERS!
What another few zero's….. it's only paper ;-]
I asked, and answered my own question.
Yes, Al Gore is involved in this http://online.wsj.com/article/SB12538316081263901.... I thought it rang a bell.
I think I have figured out obamas strategy, if he kick starts all the worlds economys they'll all want to purchase American goods marked up to accomodate union wages. He has created more jobs for other countrys than he has here. Mexico, Korea, Brazil and now Finland.
Hmmmmmm……another fine Use of taxpayer money.
Ford.
Obama Administration…………….
Liberal progressive, politically correct agenda, destructive political activism……..run amuck
These people are beyond the pail . . . I am in utter shock at what these morons spend our money on.
Of course, we're already paying for some benefits for Mexicans, except the Mexicans are in the U.S., not Mexico.
please don't give them ideas.
Oh it's so sexy, i hope they make a "hotwheels" version of it.
Too late, we are already doing this by giving welfare to those illegals here who then send some to their extended families in Mexico.
Obama knew he would be one and done. All these favors will be repaid to him once he is voted out. I see him becoming a board member of G.E. and many other questionable "green" companies shortly after this is all over.
Where's my Flying car A$$holes?
I am VERY ashamed of my Finnish brethren. This sucks in its entirety.
Is there no end to the stupidity of our government, both parties, by doling out these loans to foreign corporations, politically connected friends and donors? This is taxpayer money, earned by our fellow Americans, being tossed around for political favors. I am livid, as we all should be, and there really needs to be a complete re-boot of these politicians. People need to be in prison for crap like this.
Will someone please tell the Occupiers that if they want an American job they have to move to Finland.
Yep, for all the kids to smash with their Tonka Hummers.
it's the only reason i can think of also. Except, I think he will become the Viceroy of the Americas to the Antichrist.
Can't you imagine that photo as the Drudge headline in November 2012?
The Great Deceiver would not allow that.
LOL, exactly!
Key word is "pretense". I'm dreaming out loud of course.
Dont forget the ones who live in the border tows IN mexiho, and have their POB's in towns like Douglas, Nogales, etc. the DES office in Douglas AZ is one of the busiest in the state, and Douglas only has a population of what? 15-20,000?
I would rather drive up to them in a Viper and spitt money at them.
I'll give ya 3 guesses….
Why, yes, yes it is.
What? you dont think that the great King Hussy B. gave a half billion tax payer dollar favor to algore do you?
Whatever would make you think that?
I would much rather have an Edsel, nearly the same fuel milage…
You have to stay with what you know, and Barry knows a gigantic failure when he sees one (like looking in the mirror when he shaves)
?
So Obama could not find enough places to waste money in the U.S. so he started a Europe stimulus program. After flushing half a $billion on Solyndra, they couldn't resist flushing another half $billion in Europe. AND NOW HE NEEDS TO RAISE TAXES SO EVERYONE PAYS THEIR FAIR SHARE (OF HIS FAILED SPECULATIVE FOREIGN INVESTMENTS).
Like they say, if the federal government was in charge of the Sahara, within four years there would be a sand shortage.
Gee, I hope we didn't have to lay off any cops or firemen to get that half-billion dollars..
Sadly, I am not anymore. They would have to commission a 100 ft tall statue of Stalin to replace the Washington monument for me to be surprised anymore.
Screw them. The electric DeLorean (yep, you read that right) will be built in Humble, Texas. Thanks to Stephen Wynne production will start in 2013.
Buy American………if you can spare $90, 000.
http://news.yahoo.com/humble-texas-company-build-...
Bad Karma.
Obama must be Impeached tomorrow, not next week, not next month… but Tomorrow.
No kidding, I would have rather seen this money go into the Moller SkyCar, at least that is being built in Kalifornia.
No one accused this administration for being smart…oh wait…nobody sane accused this administration for being smart…there fixed it.
Yep, the Train Wreck in Chief.
10-4
Someone needs to ask Biden how many women were raped because of this deal.
We're surely stimulating the economy in Finland…for now. What happens when nobody buys the damn car?
Well, considering how females compose slightly over half of American citizens, quite a few.
Isn't it great? It's like going to Vegas with all of your neighbor's money and none of your own. Roll Them Dice!
Hybrid or not… a Trabant is a Trabant.
Which they would love because unfortunately, Finland is very socialist (for which I'm also ashamed of my Finnish brethren. Don't you remember? You kicked the Soviets' @sses all by yourself!!!).
ya, i have seen that. American inovation at its finest. Technology is allmost there for it to happen.
LOL!!!
And all driven by the Laws of Stupidity.
No that would be TESLA,
Soon to be the next in line to shaft the TAXPAYER,
if they haven't already
My 1993 Mercedes gets 26.5 mpg and I don't have to stop half way to work on my 2 hour commute to plug it in to be recharged.
What's wrong with these people? They want to take away our incandescent light bulbs ostensibly because they use too much electricity but want us driving cars that require AC adapters and an electric outlet .
Insanity reins.
I dunno, I have been hearing about this thing for over a decade (I used to listen to Art Bell all the time) but still, at the very least it's an American company (owned by a Canadian ex-pat)
I thought Al Gore invented the automobile…just before he invented the internet.
Under Obama we're all stuck in the prison shower..
Dont be too ashamed, hell if the English parliament came to me and asked me to build I dunno door stops made from recycled soda bottles, and said "here is a big fat ol check for half a billion dollars" Do you really think I would turn it down?
DeLorean's (inovator that he was) car was a horrible design. (sorry no insult intended) This is why the Euro and Asian sports cary are poundind us. Only the Corvette remains as a world contender in the "true" American sport car world. (I miss the Viper already). YES, Ford still builds the F-40, but who has that kind of money for a car? Sad to say, BMW, Porsche and ferrari will continue to dominate untill a new "Carol Shelby" emerges.
And here I thought that the Volt couldn't be outdone. I am astonished! ASTONISHED!
Obummer will get a pass. You are all RACISTS for not buying one of these fine machines. Of course you will have to buy Solar Panels from Solyndra to charge it with. Oh wait………….
My 1978 and 1979 VW Rabbit diesels got over 50 mpg … had plenty of power to tow a boat and all my belongings cross country twice.
How we've improved.
Obama's jobs bill: Stimulus for Finland?!?!?
Who knows these days? They spent 1.5 billion to kill one guy in Egypt.
it has been in the works for a long time, but so was the light bulb, car and airplane.
Karma's a bitch ain't it?
I'm not sorry-I had to do it!
Naw. Mexico needs guns, not food.
Wonder how many of Obama's friends owned options in this company?
well ya, the -30 degree weather helped a little also.
Cool. And after he ruins GE even more, then where does he take his magic wand?
If you ask me, the logo does look similar. As well as the big ears [I mean mirrors] and a big azz trunk. Can't wait to see my cartoonist friend!
You mean like nobody is buying the volt?
My company is moving to a new facility next year, its going to be a 84 mile round trip, I looked into the Hybrids, Leaf, Volt, etc. I cant use the Leaf unless I con the owner of the company into adding a charging station at work.
The volt, well its chevy, and I cant abide buying one.
Hybrids, just great, I can expect to do some HEAVY maintenance within 3 years on top of the extra cost of the car, and the better than average chance that the thing will die completely within 5 years. (20k miles a year x 5 years)
So, I think instead of driving my 07 F150 and destroying that, im going to buy a Focus or a Fiesta or similar. only thing I can make last more than 5 years without killing myself on maintenance.
They don't want jobs. They're happy sitting around in the park.
I hated those doors, but the stainless steel was kinda neat. At least they are going to build them here and not in some other country. I like Steve Wynne. too. I hope it sells.
I know a guy who has two Shelby's, circa 1970. They are his Babies!!
they already got themselves $465 million
http://techcrunch.com/2009/06/23/the-government-c...
However credit where its do,
they didnt take any more when they could have:

We used to do sba loans. Now they have moved to flat out grants to many of these firms. They aren't investing they are waisting. We get nothing out of most of these scams, except maybe a small amount of interest IF they last and don't BK.
Have you consider a Hyundai? The only reason I don't own one now, was headroom. The Elantra I test drove was a hell of a car. Handled great, shifted great (I'm manual all the way), and looked great. Can't beat the price and the warranty, either.
The only question is how many hundred of these deals have they made. Now were talking hundreds of billions, and I CARE!
Before or after fondling the massuese?
Congress, by handing over literally trillions to Barry.
And it continues to this day.
Many argue that the President is the most powerful person in the world. I submit that actually the Speaker of the House is, because, it takes the Speaker to push even ONE CENT of taxpayer's money through the Congress.
I rest responsibility on the shoulders of John cat's-got-his-tongue Boehner this day and every day going forward. So too do I rest a great deal of responsibility on the shoulders of the Majority Party which keeps a silent speaker in place, affording the ongoing fleecing of the Taxpayer's money.
But hey, that is just me.
They even knew then it wasn't going to be made in the US
online.wsj.com/article/SB125383160812639013.html
"A tiny car company backed by former Vice President Al Gore has just gotten a $529 million U.S. government loan to help build a hybrid sports car in Finland that will sell for about $89,000.
The award this week to California startup Fisker Automotive Inc. follows a $465 million government loan to Tesla Motors Inc., purveyors of a $109,000 British-built electric Roadster. Tesla is a California startup focusing on all-electric vehicles, with a number of celebrity endorsements that is backed by investors that have contributed to Democratic campaigns."
The Soviets know all about the -30, also, seeing as how St. Petersburg and Murmansk are practically on Finland's doorstep.
The Winter War lasted 4 months. Here are the results <a href="http://(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winter_War#Background)” target=”_blank”>(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winter_War#Background) :
Soldiers: Finland–346,500 USSR–998,100
Tanks: Finland–32 USSR–2,514
Aircraft : Finland–114 USSR–3,880
Casualties: Finland–70,000 USSR–323,000
The Soviets got their @sses handed to them big time…because we Finns have sisu (loosely translated: "titanium balls").
Just when you think this administration can't get any worse. Somebody's got take the checkbook away from them!
My best friend just bought one, its nice, but I bleed Ford blue, I have owned other things in the past, and I always come back to the blue oval cult.
I actually would rather have a Ranger but it doesnt get much better MPG than my full size, although I heard a rumor about a 4cyl ecoboost Ford has in the works….
Lets just pay our taxes in gum
