ObamaCare’s Rationing Blueprint: Associated Press and Left Wing Bloggers Complete the Circle
by Capitol ConfidentialLike a game of three card monte, the FDA, the mainstream media and liberal bloggers have joined together to deny life extending options for victims of breast cancer – sacrificing life on the rationing altar of budgetary constraints. Once you understand how the game is played, you will see that patients will always lose.
Three card monte is a street card game where a dealer uses two shills to con unsuspecting observers to bet money. In this case the dealer is the FDA and the two shills are the Associated Press and the left-wing blog, TalkingPointsMemo.com.
Understanding the game is the key to understanding how ObamaCare and it’s rationing scheme will work. It’s time to learn the rules.
The FDA is tasked to determine the safety and efficacy of drugs. They are not charged to determine drug pricing; just safety. Avastin was originally labeled for treatment of breast cancer patients in an expedited fashion based on initial studies that showed the drug produced on average nearly 6 months without tumor progression. So the FDA is now looking a follow-up study that shows an average of about 3 months without tumor progression. These are average time frames, meaning that many in the studies got more than 6 months or 3 months in the respective studies. The FDA also looked for new adverse events (side effects) and determined that there are no new safety concerns raised in the trials for breast cancer applications for the drug Avastin.
Despite the determination that the drug was safe and effective, the FDA is trying to de-label the drug for use with late stage breast cancer patients by changing the evaluation rules to use the price of the drug to determine its effectiveness. That is rationing. Period. The FDA created a subjective standard they call “clinically meaningful.” Sounds impressive but what does that mean? In the case of Avastin, which has been shown to actually work, the FDA is just saying that the average extension of life of 6 months just isn’t meaningful enough. That is the new rules of the game. The dealer always wins.
Once the rules have been changed, the shills move in. The Associated Press takes the new subjective language intended to lead people to believe the drug is being de-labled because it doesn’t work and in turns that into actually false information saying that “recent studies finding that the drug did not extend patients’ life spans and also increased the incidence of side effects and other complications.” Patently false.
Then when US Senator Vitter expresses concerns about the decision, the Associated Press blatantly and falsely attacks him and attempts to discredit him. Associated Press, reporting on efforts by Sen. David Vitter to ensure doctors had the option of offering Avastin, proclaimed incorrectly that — and this is a direct quote — “While he did not use the term “death panels,” his complaint mirrors false allegations raised last year by Republicans such as former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who claimed the Democratic health care bill included “death panels” that would decide who deserves treatment and who doesn’t.” Talk about bias and the basis for a smear. That is where shill number two comes in.
The Talking Points Memo takes the death panel claim and runs with it. Declaring Vitter’s objections “VitterCare,” the blog quotes generously from the false, bias and misleading implications of the Associated Press story calling Vitter’s actions a “smear.”
Both shills defending the dealer using subjective standards with hazy labels that get turned into patently false information in a compliant and willing media. That is the way the game will be played and patients lose.

The author here is correct. I learned this four years ago when someone important to me had breast cancer. The final result? No treatment because of her age. I saw this coming then.

The panel of cancer doctors, including a drug industry rep, who evaluated the research on Avastin, by 13-0 found it essentially worthless for advanced breast cancer. They found it actually shortened some patients lives.

You need to carefully parse the words that the AP uses. They play the thesaurus like it was a violen. Just yesterday they used the word "rebuke" to describe the decision by the judge in AZ when it was clearly not a rebuke. The AP used the word "altered" to describe Breitbart's post regarding Shirley Sharrod whe the proper word was "edited." Why did the AP use altered? Because it implies something underhanded, sneaky, sleazy. The AP writers spin their stories in this manner in nearly every article they write in which there is an opportunity to slam Republicans and Conservatives. Read and count their biased descriptors and you will see for yourselves.
Who exactly would you like to review the research? The drug companies provide the research. A panel of independent experts (mostly MDs with research backgrounds) reviews it and makes recommendations to the FDA. It's worked this way for years. How would you do it? You want to turn it all over to the drug companies? Let them market anything they want, no matter how poorly it works or how much it costs? Why are conservatives so anti-science? You want preachers to decide drug efficacy? No thanks. I'll take the doctors and biostatisticians.

Climate gate is completely exposed by the publishing of the fortran programming for their climate model, with notes of the programmers calling what they were doing completely bogus. I work in the medical products business and I will tell you that the FDA has changed dramatically under NoBama, it has become very unpredictable.
My guess is this drug will still be availabe under the Teddy Kennedy Health Care Program. You know, the one that the Senators, the Representatives and the President get for themselves and their family. The one that gets four of the top doctors in the country to fly to Mass. to see the Senator and gets him experimental surgery because there is a small chance it might keep him pounding down the Irish Whiskey a few more years.
I see us headed for a two tier medical industry. The 5% elite gets anything and everything. The other 95% of us get to pay for the 5% and then we get whatever doesn't cost much money.

My friend's wife has to go to Poland then drive over the border to Romania to get oxygen treatments for her pancreatic cancer, a treatment NOT approved by the FDA.

Oh yeh….I get Yahoo news which is mainly AP and saw that one right off the bat. That and of course "despite judge's ruling, PEACEFUL protesters arrested in AZ." Peaceful being a "relative term" here as they were not only obstructing the entry to the Sheriff's Dept and other gov't buildings, IN VIOLATION OF CITY ORDINANCES, but were screaming, shaking fists, whipping the crowd up with inflammatory rhetoric….rhetoric we "not minority" folks would be stopped for, and perhaps asked to leave or arrested for incitement to violence. They SAID THEY WANTED TO BE ARRESTED. They DEMANDED TO BE ARRESTED AND CHEERED AS OTHERS WERE. They wanted confrontation and they got it. What they probably know today is they weren't arrested for protesting but for criminal trespass or obstructing access to gov't buildings. Try that on the DC mall and see how fast you get pushed back or arrested.
What AP never mentioned was a large portion of that crowd was bused in from California Sanctuary cities….they don't even LIVE here. LaRaza has staged these so called AZ rallies over and over with non-AZ residents and non-citizens.

It's already true that in some cases, even if you have money and will pay for an expensive treatment, Obamacare will not let you do it. There was something in the KC Star about an elderly woman whose DR told her the expensive shots she recevied on a regular basis would no longer be paid for AND she could NOT privately pay for it.
Can we please stop referring to the AP as the Associated Press!? American Pravda is a much more fitting name considering their non-stop shilling for the Administration. Somehow as we get month after month of bad economic and employment news they are repeatedly shocked at how "unexpected" it all is! How irresponsible can a news organization be to defend the dangerous actions the FDA is taking in order to protect their ruinous Healthcare takeover and the obvious rationing that is already beginning. I think they have severely underestimated the fight they have on their hands going forward…imagine the rage once people actually start getting denied life saving or extending treatment. They better get used to spending a lot more time in their Ivory Towers because there are going to be a lot of people hurt by their power grab and we all know who to blame!

A more important question is why did science stop being about finding answers to questions and begin being about telling us what we can and cannot do!? Science and politics are no longer independent of each other and the American people now understand that a large proportion of scientists have very little credibility…remember the Global Warming fraud and ClimateGate?
On a tangent here, but who exactly is/are the AP really? They have been discredited so many times. Maybe that's a swamp that needs drained also.
