‘Countrywide’ Chris Dodd Proposes Blank Check to Bailout Big Banks
by Capitol ConfidentialIt’s not often that we can give credit to Barney Frank but when it comes to the issue of Financial Reform at least we can say is he was honest enough to put a price tag on the proposed permanent bailout fund. Can’t say the same for Sen. Chris Dodd.

The Frank bill’s price tag for future bailouts was clear — $4 trillion.
Sen. Dodd’s bill proposes the same bailout authority but makes matters even worse — he leaves the check blank. Taxpayers will be on the hook for any amount.
Dodd’s bill gives the Fed “emergency lending authority” to “any “ entity or market utility, program or facility that the Financial Stability Oversight Council determines is or is likely to become “systemically important.”
But don’t worry. They have to report back to Congress why they used this authority within seven days after they use it. But– they only have to disclose who they helped “within one year” and only if they deem that it won’t hurt the “effectiveness of the program”
Still thinking maybe this isn’t a bailout? Well, on page 1306, one of the requirements is that the Fed has to report to Congress “ the expected or final cost to the taxpayers of such assistance.”
So, to summarize–the Fed has authority to lend money to any entity it deems fit, in any amount it sees fit but has to report after the fact how much it cost the taxpayers but they only have to tell you who they gave it to if they want to.
If that doesn’t sound like a bailout to you, then I’m selling some oceanfront property in Arizona that I’d like to talk to you about.
Republicans on the Senate Banking Committee have made it clear they are trolling for a deal on this issue. But for all the hand wringing, technical talk and political doublespeak on this issue it boils down to two simple yet distinct paths for dealing with failing companies–bailout or bankruptcy. Either the taxpayers are on the hook to spend money on these companies or they are not.
Dodd’s bill clearly puts taxpayers on the hook. So any sort of compromise that involves “emergency lending authority” is merely negotiating the terms, size or scope of the bailout and any vote for this bill or its negotiated cousin is a vote in favor of bailouts.
Hopefully the Republicans on the Senate Banking Committee can see that.

As long as these libtard asshats are in power, we are all screwed.
"Dodd’s bill clearly puts taxpayers on the hook. "
Taxpayers have been on the hook since the New Deal. What is new about Dodd's tactics? Taxpayers are simply a crop; sheep that grow a new fleece every year, and every year, they get headed to the shearing pens to be shorn.
A few thoughts:
Recall
Impeachment
Treason

Why is Dodd's & Franks not in jail yet?
It’s really a hoot that the very scumbag that is most responsible for our financial breakdown (Fanie-Freddie) is the one that is supposed to fix it…what could be wrong with that?
Sallie Mae and Freddie mac enabled the Democrats to push social engineering through Bank regulation. What a huge disaster this has been.
"To big to fail" really means "too politically connected to fail."
Dodd needs to become a curse word. Dodd them all.
NO MORE BAILOUTS
Isn't he one of the guys who got us into this mess? Now he wants us to believe he has the solution…. These folks gotta go!!
"The Frank bill’s price tag for future bailouts was clear — $4 trillion."
At least Bwarney was Frank, it is too bad that Dodd couldn't have been earnest.
Yeah right DUD we'll even pay for your mortgage how's that you know the one in Ireland. When will the American electorate wake up and stop voting for the elite, rich POS politians. Oh yeah I forgot when it doesn't
cost 4B dollars to run for a seat in Congress.
This fellow couldn't find the truth with a magnifying glass. I meant dirtbag. Fellow is to good for this leech. I mean pond scum. No that doesn't do it justice. I got it. Dodd looks like and acts like a ferret after it traveled through someones Obama's colon.
I thought Leonid Brezhnev was dead? I do see the resemblence.

Sure why not put the serfs on the hook for their Masters screw ups. Explain that to me please someone; You screw up lose your money, business whatever and I have to foot the bill to make you whole!? these baks created this problem and encouraged it, trust me I know a bit more about the lending industry there is a lot more than most of you know. I'll give you a teaser, most of these banks who are crying they lost money HAD the option to make the lenders, they were loaning money to, buy the bad deals back! Do some research start with 'secondary marketing'.. Also companies like Baer Sterns cornered the market at one point on deals they whined they were getting crushed on ie Negative Amortization Loans… Oh one more for you guys all the no cost loans most got suckered into were some of the highest paying deals available for lenders they made more off those than the deals where they would "just charge you a point" or "half a point"
This is what happens when you let people stay in political power for decades. They create a mini empire, kingdom if you will for themselves with their own propaganda and muscle machine (the fringe MSM and special interest groups) The "career politician" must go the way of the dinosaur, but again I must ask when will it be enough Amerika? (No I didnt spell it wrong) http://www.savingtherepublic.com/Amerika.html

Its time for "out of the box" thinking in dealing with all politicians, bias fringe media and special interest groups who are only working for their own interest. Unconventional actions is what is going to be needed to affect real change through http://www.savingtherepublic.com
Like in 'go Dodd yourself'!? Perfect. Thanks Rue.
What Dodd really needs is a toe tag.
Unless we elect people with REAL HONOR to office, scum like Dodd will never see prison for the harm they've wrought on this country.

Without getting into the convoluted details of macro-economics and the capitalistic system the existence and function of bankruptcy laws is to allow for an orderly dissolution of a failing business. For all that progressives profess to believe in Darwinian evolutionary principles they drop the veil when it comes to protecting their inefficient union practices.
GM is an excellent example of progressive schizophrenia. The GM bankruptcy was a farce orchestrated by Obama. Throwing out 100 years of bankruptcy court precedence and giving the 'un-secured….' union creditors preference over secured creditors. this proved to become immediately awkward for the unions. Once they had effective 'ownership' of the company they realized their predicament: How can they be 'against the man' when they became the 'man'.

Dodd and Franks !!! Dodd your a "Richard" and Franks you like "Richard" … everyone wonders what happened? Well watch the commerical. I wouldn't let Dodd run my lemonade stand !!!

James O'Keefe and Hanna should have went to CountryWide – listen to the Third persons trouble !!!!!
SO DAM FUNNY !!!!!!
Exaclty. What could go wrong? Beck is right – perhaps the real crook here is the media for failing to peform any basic journalism to inform the American public. Thank God for the internet.
In the end it was the intransigence and inflexibility o funion contracts that sealed the fate of US automakers. Simply put union involvement adds unnescessarily to the finished cost of a vehicle and thereby makes the US auto less attractive to consumers. This business model needs to change to stay competetive. If it cannot it must fail to allow a newer and more adaptive business to grow.
What obama did with the GM bailout was no different than to keep giving blood transfusions to a corpse (as opposed to 'corps' clarification for libs) so that the leeches which killed the man may continue to feed.
Careful Stan, you must not use common sense and logic in a progressive utopian argument.
yeah, "I got a dodd for you, right here" (visually supplemented by grabbing one's own crotch)
and a butt plug
can we put some of these crooks in jail please.,
Frank, Dodd at least!
Soooo…if it doesn't work, do it again only louder?
Grew up on a sheep ranch. The dog makes sure the unruly fall in line.
Well I guess the pain never stops……………….both Dodd and Franks need to be investigated, charged and then both thrown in jail for the rest of their natural days. These guys (and there are many more like them) are doing great and virtually irreparable damage to this country and our financial futures.
I think it is high time that they be held accountable for what they have already done, and now want to do!!
A glimmer of hope was Senator Coburn (R-OK) today taking the Democratic selling of votes to task. Perhaps the Republicans are finally waking from their stupor and will start to initiate some real push back to this insanity. Then when the tides turn in November start the processional by having everyone of them investigated and I mean a real deep penetrating investigation and expose them for the crooks they are. It is the only way apparently that we will be able to put a stop to this and send a strong message to everyone the party is over. We the People are feed up with supporting the corruption, subsidizing of failed business dealings and the shenanigans that have plagued the halls of Congress for way to long.
Connie eliminate the first three and only use the last option. Dodd, Frank, Schumer, Pelosi, Boxer, Waxman, Gore and Feinstein would be a good place to start.
ENOUGH FREE tax $$$$$$$$$$$$ for Obama connected MILLIONAIRES! Enough! Stop!
That'll work and costs less!
Agreed, of course this guy wants a blank check. They can't account for most of the first bailout money. China better hurry and cash all their US bonds. there's nothing left in the coffers of the treasury!
I hope we are done with the bailouts.

Gentle Readers,
Dear Sunshine Connie,
We don't shoot people for being stupid: There are too many stupid people, and it's very distasteful!
We usually simply retire them to someplace comfortable where they can write books that no one will read.

Gentle Readers,
Dear BMartin1776,
You're another victim of the ' propoganda machine '.
It wasn't the Banks!
The bailout went to AIG, AIG investors – many of whom were not even Americans, tens of billions went to Europe, GM, CHRYSLER, the GSEs ( Fannie Mae ), and non-Bank Wall Street financial firms. These Wall Street guys sneer at Bankers, they call them ' toaster salesmen '. You can't just walk into these places, open an account, and get a ' toaster '. Their clientele are what the SEC refers to as ' sophisticated investors ': They have a minimum income of $250,000 yr and a minimum of $1,000,000 to invest and seek high-risk/high-return investments.
These ' sophisticated investors ' didn't want to put money into relatively low-risk/low-yield FDIC insured accounts in Fed Res member banks or safe Treasurys.
The media keeps repeating the propoganda that the government prevented another Depression, but that's not true. Actually, the FDIC has been raided to pay for part of the bailout for non-regulated, uninsured accounts that never paid premiums to the FDIC.
The Treasury did require the banks to take a ' capital injection ' which they neither needed nor wanted. Most of that has already been paid back, with a nice profit to the Treasury. Another way the government raided the banks to pay for a bailout for non-bank investors.
Kindest Regards,
John Lepant

Gentle Readers,
Dear StoryKeeper,
Whats worse, is that many UAW locals were willing to make concessions to keep plants open, and many dealerships that were closed by the Obama Administration would have been kept open had the company gone through the normal bankruptcy process.
Hundreds of thousands of jobs were destroyed by the Obama Administrations intervention.

Gentle Readers,
Dear Richard_FL,
What should we charge them with? Being stupid idiots? What about all the stupid idiots who voted for these guys? – Charge them too! ( Charge me, I guess, I'm feeling a little stupid, right about now! )
Sorry folks, but Sen. McCain was right: How you vote matters!
Just remember that the next time you vote!
Get mad and stay home, or support some ' off-the-wall ' candidate, and you might feel good for a couple of days, but then you're stuck with a Pelosi/Reid Congress that since 2007 has produced 44 straight months of job losses.
Don't make the perfect the enemy of the good: Vote for someone who will be more responsible.
Regards,
John

All I want to know is Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac subject to these new rules. I realize they are gov entities, but they do the same functions as banks in the mortgage business. (and frankly no pun intended rather poorly) I remember the big flap about bonus money for banks that 1) made money and 2) paid backe the tax payer with interest. The number 144 million comes to mind. Nobody even mentioned Fannie and Freddie popped for 240 million in bonus to gov loan people that lost an incredible amount of yours and my money. Figures are off but you get the drift
Many thanks for the well-thought report. My wife’s calling me for dinner So I have to go off without reading all I’d like. However, I put your blog on my RSS feed so that I can examine far more.
