The Bob Corker Bailout Sellout
by Capitol ConfidentialWhile the media and most of the public are consumed by the health care death march, the Senate is deep in negotiations to pass a sweeping re-regulation of the financial sector. As the public knows, ObamaCare is an attempt to regulate 1/6th of the US economy. The financial ‘reform’ proposal, though, will impact the other 5/6ths of the economy. In many respects, the financial services ‘reform’ is much more damaging to the economy and our future competitiveness. Worse, its passage is being aided by Bob Corker.

Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) has snatched defeat from the jaws of victory with his complete capitulation and total surrender on the Financial Services bill. The bill, passed by the House with a $4 trillion bailout provision, making bailouts the permanent policy of the United States government, was on it’s last legs until Corker came to the rescue. Now the Washington Post and other are reporting that Corker and ethically-challenged, retiring Sen. Chris Dodd (D-CT) are on the verge of a deal to breathe life back into the regulatory and bailout scheme.
Let’s be clear – the President and the hard left want this bill. David Reilly of Bloomberg described the measure as Barney Frank’s $4 trillion gift to the banks. Reilly wrote:
Here are some of the nuggets I gleaned from days spent reading Frank’s handiwork:
– For all its heft, the bill doesn’t once mention the words “too-big-to-fail,” the main issue confronting the financial system. Admitting you have a problem, as any 12- stepper knows, is the crucial first step toward recovery.
– Instead, it supports the biggest banks. It authorizes Federal Reserve banks to provide as much as $4 trillion in emergency funding the next time Wall Street crashes. So much for “no-more-bailouts” talk. That is more than twice what the Fed pumped into markets this time around. The size of the fund makes the bribes in the Senate’s health-care bill look minuscule.
– Oh, hold on, the Federal Reserve and Treasury Secretary can’t authorize these funds unless “there is at least a 99 percent likelihood that all funds and interest will be paid back.” Too bad the same models used to foresee the housing meltdown probably will be used to predict this likelihood as well.
– The bill also allows the government, in a crisis, to back financial firms’ debts. Bondholders can sleep easy — there are more bailouts to come.
– The legislation does create a council of regulators to spot risks to the financial system and big financial firms. Unfortunately this group is made up of folks who missed the problems that led to the current crisis.
– Don’t worry, this time regulators will have better tools. Six months after being created, the council will report to Congress on “whether setting up an electronic database” would be a help. Maybe they’ll even get to use that Internet thingy.
Sources in the Senate have made conservatives aware of a sleight of hand that Sen. Corker and Dodd may use to try to get this bill through the Senate. The discussion draft contained the infamous bailout provisions. But we have been warned that the “compromise” may take the bailouts out so they can be inserted back into the bill through the House Senate conference committee.
Does this sound like a bill a senior Republican Senator should be trying to revive? Since when do Republicans believe in more government, more bureaucrats and more Washington red tape?
Bob Corker’s Senate office number is 202-224-3344.

Another Communist votes to destroy America. Well he surely volunterred to be a coward.. Good going state of TN. Elect another fool.
Thank you for Corkers number!
You certainly have his number. This Heaolth Care issue has been nothing but a smoke screen, to hide the bigger prize. The Financial Services Industry is the new Industrial Age. It drives the worlds economy. The US is no longer a manufacturing or 9ndustrial behemoth. We have degenerated into a society of pencil pushers, and clerks.
Thank you for the article. I am glad someone is watching what is going on.
D=amn we throw trillions around like its nothing. I just can't grasp the idiocy of leftists. May all of them rest in peace knowing they have destroyed the only free nation or semi free nation in history. We won't survive another 3 years of this bull pucky. I think I'll go an clean up my guns.
This proves that it is really not about "D" vs "R". The system is corrupt and begs for reform. Be ready in November to make a real difference.
This is getting too much for me to think about — I thought Corker was a stand up guy. This is ridiculous We can't have it.
They're doing this because they know that the system is heading for a crash and this is to have the bail out in place this time — 4 trillion.
Buy a little farm everybody. Just saying.
.
It is said that every man has his price. I wonder how much Corkers was?
Bob, Bob, Bob…
How could you?
Hope you're renting in DC.
I agree Lorben, it most certainly is bizzaro – it just gets more insane everyday! The million dollar question – how to make the bleeding stop – those in 'charge' are deaf, dumb and blind –
As CL said, the healthcare idiocy is a huge smoke screen – we all knew this, we just didn't know what the screen was hiding, until now.
While the thieves are tending the cash register of our economy, environmental thugs are trying to further rob states of property.

Strict term limits, no gerrymander and clean up the eductaion system. Unless this happens ASAP we are doomed.
Bob Corker, John McCain, Lindsey Graham = The 3 RINO Stooges!!!
Vote the ba$tards OUT!!!
SELLOUT!!! Corker rides to the rescue for Frank, Dodd and Obama. WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU THINKING??????
As a Tennessean who voted for and supported Bob Corker (R) Tennessee; let me say I do not apologize for voting for this RINO but the alternative candidate at the time would have been worse; i'm sure the rest of you guys have heard of "former Tennessee native" NOW posing as a "NewYorker" and up until a couple of days ago… running in the New York primaries for Senate; John Ford Jr…. so as you see and we all learn and pay attention to how these thug minds are thinking and moving from state to state… we can start to rat out these bastards…all of us are going to make some mistakes as we try to regain control of of nation. South Park said it best when the election always seems to be between "Some Old Douche and a Big Turd Sandwich"
Speaking of smokescreens, how about the Stimulus money going to foreign firms that create jobs in foreign countries? It was on Fox news this morning and on their site.
WE HAVE HUGE UNEMPLOYMENT but our money is going abroad!! Unfreakingbelievable. Even that scumbag Shumer is coming out and objecting. Question is:
Who directed this money to go abroad and to China?
THIS IS ALL TREASON AND UNCONSTITUTIONAL AND THERE IS NOTHING THAT WE CAN DO ABOUT IT. NOTHING! WHY: BECAUSE WE"RE BEING BLACKMAILED! RIOTS, ANYONE! SEE WHAT I MEAN?
WAKE-UP AMERICA! THEY PROBABLY WILL NOT PRINT THIS AGAIN, BUT THERE HAS BEEN A MARXIST TAKEOVER! THERE IS NOTHING THAT WE CAN DO ABOUT IT BECAUSE WE CAN"T AFFORD RIOTS THROUGHOUT ALL AMERICA!
I'm a fellow Tennessean and also voted for Corker, for the exact reasons you described. The alternative was much worse.
Sort of like the McCain vote……sometimes you just have to hold your nose and do it.
Though we can appreciate your frustration, there is no need to yell at us! Can't afford riots? Really? Tell that to those most apt to incite such riots – all the race baiters who keep crawling out of the woodward, along with the class warfare idiots -
………and another Obama power grab behind the scenes that is going on:
http://sroblog.com/2010/03/02/demint-white-house-...
Now comes the difficult question; should the voters in 2012 (I believe this is when his term ends) keep a two-faced Republican like Bob Corker that may be reliable sometimes, but is willing to cave at others? Or should the message be loud and clear that we won’t except this kind of behavior, even is it means replacing him with a progressive Dem.?
Don't rush to create a new financial industry regulatory system now. Wait until after November. Otherwise, the new rules are being written by the same people who created the financial disaster in the first place.
That's why we have primaries. He should face a primary challenger.
Watch! Riots will in fact occur!
It's how the marxist do things! Watch!
Please call and have Corker's office explain. They played dumb with me.
Hope this helps you!!…I seem to remember a pretty conservative
politician when JD was in the House….

Corker's in bed with the Devil Soros too
Subject: Consumer Protection Agency an Urgent Need: Soros – ABC News

I fear you are correct – the anger is at the boiling point and ready to spill over.
Yep, the power that be created this, it's by design I have no doubt.
Soros has to be the ugliest human (if he's in fact human) alive!! He even looks like a rat ~
What did they say GACE? Just curious ~
Once again being sold out by the slim balls in Washington. Sarbanes-Oxley, is already killing IPOs, now with further intrusion by the Feds, we will be in heap big trouble. We will remember come November.
[...] From BigGovernment.com: [...]
They said that Corker and Dodd are working on a bill that would disallow any company a bailout, and that they would have to go through a bankruptcy just as any small company would. In other words, no one is too big to fail.
The only information I had at my fingertips was this article and the referencing link, so I could nto debate them beyond that.
So I simply told them, that everybody up in DC thinks we are all preoccupied with healthcare but we citizens are watching every move that anyone makes up there regardless of party. I told them that I think they already knew what Americans would think of a bill that is essentially "easy TARP."
another FED pawn… well i hope this starts to wake up those out there who still think there's a difference between either party. NO MORE POWER for the Federal Reserve until there is a FULL AUDIT….including MONETARY POLICY. The FED is a PRIVATE BANK, Why would you want to give them control over consumer protection……they've done such an awesome job so far…… how's that unemployment working out for you?
Why is it that every Senator or Representative who stands up against the "progressives" eventually BACKS down-Corker, Bunning…..???? What is wrong with these men? They have the American people behind them while they are standing firm against the Marxists, and then they just fizzle. OUST them along with the Dems.
"Stupid is as stupid does." Someone smarter than the U.S. Congress said that once. Also, if " a billion here and a billion there, pretty soon you're talkin' about real money." If that's the case, what is a trillion here and there?
Thanks for providing Corker's number – it's busy – (Go figure). I've got in on re-dial though.
It's gotten to where you can't trust anyone sent to congress with a D, an R or an I after their name.
Let's give them all a new job.
we may all need to make an unannounced visit to DC, Lorben
Don, How about adding Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe to that list.
I can't count the number of times I've read on this site," wonder what the other hand is doing"?
When there's a dog & pony show going on in front of us, we better be checking out what the
rattlesnakes are doing behind us. Are we gonna' have to pay them another visit in DC?
This politician needs to be thrown out.
Republican or Democrat…it doesn’t matter…a seelout is a sellout
What a scumbag
very true………….These three need to be tossed..voted out…………
Sellout……………
Come on tennessee….vote this bum out…………….Lindsay Graham should be next
Corker needs to go but a 3rd party is NOT the answer. Those of you who think it is must have flunked basic math in school. You primary them out and that also means INSISTING that the Senate and House Committees that fund the Republicans stay OUT of the primaries. They should NEVER give money to one candidate over another in a primary. It should only be for the general election, once the people have chosen their candidates! We all need to get real here and get rid of the problems – both democrat and republicans.
SCUMBAG
Gentle Readers,
I keep posting this whenever possible, because theres been so much misinformation in the media, but, there was no bailout for banks. The last bailout went to non-bank Financial Institutions on Wall Street, AIG, the GSEs ( Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac ), GM, Chrysler, Mortgage-Backed Securities owners ( Bondholders ), AIG clientele, many in Europe got tens of billions, the UAW and non-bank operations at CitiBank and non FDIC insured accounts.
No FDIC insured accounts in Fed . Res. banks were bailed out. None of those guys are banks.

In addition to the troubling new powers for the Fed, the bill may also contain the "proxy access" power grab. for the Left. This Saul Alinksy-inspired rule would give union pension funds and other progressive shareholders the power to nominate a company's board members and have their nominees appear on the company's official proxy. Would lead to all kinds of backroom deals with CEOs on the Left's agenda — everything from card check to cap-and-trade to the Fairness Doctrine — at the expense of a company's ordinary shareholders. The provision is in Dodd's discussion draft, and Corker has not publicly ruled it out yet. Might want to mention this if you decide to give his office a call.
By the way, I wrote about proxy access on this site on Monday. Here's the piece.
http://biggovernment.com/jberlau/2010/03/01/proxy...
Hey, I voted for Ed Bryant. Corker and Alexander are in trouble here in TN. I don't think they'll be coming back to Wash.
Yes, Thank you for his number but I believe we already have it but I can't remember if it was 2010 or 2012.
I am so tired…I will be better tomorrow.
Bizarro world…..I am seriously thinking about becoming an alcholic….
I really hate living in bizzaro world…these idiots just keep coming out of the wood work and its time to crush the bastards. We are bankrupt and will be a nation unable to compete in the world for decades because of these cockroaches…it all very disturbing and I am looking for Superman!
Agreed; but incumbents frequently go unchallenged in the primaries. I hope the Republicans do not allow this mistake to be made.
Why Bob? Why?
This is why it is very important to look deep under the hood on people that wish to serve in office. Almost makes you want to improve our situation by picking people that do not want to serve: that's got to be a sign of character strength…
Geez Lorben…don't do that, we need you but I just cannot believe some of the crap that is happening. HELLO? Tsunami? We are being inundated with Progressive waves that will not stop! This is the process: confuse, inundate and pass everything poosible in a short period of time so we cannot even examine or respond to it.
THEY HAVE A PLAN !!
Typical government response to a problem; instead of removing the legislation that caused the problem they create more legislation and bureaucracy to try to fix the problem. They continue to treat symptoms and side-effects, but they ignore the illness.
The cycle continues, and the government grows.
I will be saying adios to McCain. But I'm not sure Hayworth is the answer either. Anyone know where I can find his voting records from the past?
I am just kidding…but I admit I am in a disparing state of mind today. I have to keep telling myself that God is in control and this is to will soon pass.
Just goes to show the RINOS are just as bad, if not worse, than the rank and file Dem progressives.
Every day we find more and more crap about the people WE HAVE HIRED to do the right thing for our children. Something has got to give! I am one of those who has always been interested in politics, and I am now 52 years old and I have never seen such corrupt and disgusting behavior on "Both Sides Of The Isle". It is becomming more and more clear every day that AMERICANS NEED TO WAKE THE HELL UP, take back our Country and try and do right for our Chidren and Grandkids, when I see the so called Progressivs just mow over the concensis of the people and they still insist in supporting this Presidents agenda it is truley well insane! Do these individuals think they are any different than the rest, they well suffer too with Tryanny they are idiotic! As for Corker it is really too bad i kind of liked the guy, and I imagine that there well be more just like him.
they do have a plan copperpeony, but we were warned, thank goodness. If we hadn't
been warned we'd still be in denial, rather in astounded disbelief.
astonded disbelief is a great description, tsunami is too. Cornpone, you need to sign up official so I can make your points count!
Someone needs to tell Sean Hannity that THIS is the reason many conservatives are done with the republican party. THIS is why they are ready for a third party, one that truly is conservative and holds to the ideal of our founding fathers. He wants to blame true conservatives if they choose to split the party and vote for someone else, saying that we are the reason progressives will keep in power. WAKE UP hannity! Its folks like you who are not getting your $H!& together. I'm done with the GOP. My vote is for the Tea Party. I would rather have the progs claim responsibility for the destruction of our country than have the responsibility swept under the rug and kept a mystery. Quit hiding the problem. Its time to act.
How much are they paying Corker?
[...] no, I don’t know what’s going on with Bob Corker, [...]
[...] The Bob Corker Bailout Sellout [...]
I did the same as you guys, but I'm done with him and I let him know it. At this point, I don't care who is running against him, he isn't getting my vote again.
"It authorizes Federal Reserve banks to provide as much as $4 trillion in emergency funding the next time Wall Street crashes."
sigh
I didn't flunk math. I know what the numbers mean. But I also didn't flunk ethics and I know what it means to not sacrifice your principals so you can simply say 'yay! our side won!'. What difference does it make if your side won, when the people on your side are slitting your throat and selling you down the river? I would rather endure a mathematical loss and let the light shine on the progressives for all the country to see, so that we can finally right the ship, than to keep the cycle of inpetitude and betrayal in place for evermore. Sometimes you have to walk through hell to get to heaven. Think bigger.
VOTE THE BASTARD OUT THE FIRST CHANCE YOU GET!
Hannity's a water carrier for the GOP, IMO. His words are ringing hollow now, now that he's getting beat in the Fox News ratings by Glenn Beck.
Good luck with that as long as Steele is in charge of the GOP.
Gentle Readers,
David Reilly at Bloomberg is wrong: this isn't a $4 Trillion bailout fund for banks, which might be a public interest,
this is a $4 Trillion bailout fund for private interests in private, non bank institutions. Most of the clientele are called ' sophisticated investors ' by the SEC: they must have a minimum of $1 million to invest and an annual income of at least $250,000 year. That was who got the last bailout ( and the UAW ) and who this fund is for. Its not for the local bank where the local donut shop owner or your grandmother do business. This is for rich people and institutions with high-yield, high risk invest products that eschew banks because they don't want those low risk, low yield FDIC accounts.

Well, well, it looks like I will be giving Sen. Corker a strongly worded email in the morning, as he is my Senator. Shame on him!
Trust me, the people of TN would not replace Corker with a Democrat…EVER. He will loose to a more conservative canidate. The people of TN, I should know I live here, are sick of liberals. That's why that idiot Harold Ford, Jr. ran to NY when he lost to Corker. Past Memphis (70% black and corrupt and perpetually stupid), most people are conservative.
Agreed. He says he is all principal. But when it comes down to it, he is just a schill for the GOP. He is a party first guy, not the principals first guy that he tries to tell us.
I voted for him too, thats about how every vote on the ballot was in 08 in, the lesser of two evils
I applaud Senator Bunning for having a spine and standing up to this power hungry corrupt administration. He was the ONLY one who stood up and took the bullet. Where are the rest of our representatives? Senator Bunning told the truth – our representatives and the administration are totally ignorant of economics and most are mired in the muck of greed, power and corruption – PAYGO is the line in the sand. It's true that numbers are infinite, however, money can't be expanded to infinity, no matter how much they print.
Bill Corker folded like a jellyfish. Where are the men and women with spines who will tear away the curtain so all can see what the administration doesn't want us to see?
They've taken our country over and we have to get it back. A third constitutionalist party is our best hope. Vote against incumbents and we won't have to worry about term limits.
I've live in TN and have a little farm with a garden-fruit trees-nut trees and chickens. I'm ready for almost anything – short a meltdown at the Sweetwater Nuclear Plant is 15 miles as the crow flies.
I went to several townhalls with Corker and he spoke about free markets and profits etc as being a good thing.
I went away from those meetings with the impression that he is a "business as usual" senator.
He doesn't get it.
National Strike! Send the Bastards a serious message they can't ignore.
Is he practicing what he thinks will be his forever job?
Why can't top Republicans get it?? If we do not shed RINOs like Corker, McCain, and Graham, there will be a third party. I like Romney, but can not understand his endorsement of Juan McAmnesty.
LOL!!! You are correct. Great catch.
Bob Croker is just like all the other rich politicans, now that He has all the wealth He wants, He is after fame and notoriety kindly like the one that is running for govonor from knoxville at the present time. Wake up Tennesseans never ever vote for another rich person. Thank goodness for the Tea Party Movement. I hope it gains in strengh and will never go away. I am from Tennessee and advise everyone call his office and advise him this is no time to cozy up to the Democrats for anything. The hard left Democrats are our enemy. Have you ever heard of the Democrats trying to help the Republicans?
what is the deal with the guy from knox i havent really seen anything other than tv ads here in memphis
" with his complete capitulation and total surrender"
Wow. Complete capitulation AND total surrender. That's good writing. Because if it was just complete capitulation alone, the point would have been unclear.
@Rovers, This story is about a Republican supporting a 4 Trillion dollar bailout of the Fincnacial Services industry. When will we realize that "WE THE PEOPLE" MUST put an end to this 2 party monopoly in Washington before Progressives on both sides, destroy our Founders vision.
YEP, The 2 party monopoly is destroying our Constitution. It is PAST time that we change the Federal Election Commission, and welcome 3rd, 4th, 5th party candidates.
Romney is not a conservative. Only since the tea party movement has gotten steam, has he tried to backpedle and rebrand himself. Do not be fooled by this bafoon.
Defeat the Bastard! When is he up for reelection?
Out with Bob Corker, I wrote him yesterday about this! No answer from his office! Lets stand up for Tn.
