Absolutely correct. I'm totally opposed to motor voter initiatives, Oregon's "vote by mail" process, and all similar "good government" plans. If you can't get up off your rump, and get down to the local school, library, firehouse, whatever, to go and pull a lever or mark a ballot, then you really shouldn't be voting. Presenting a photo ID should be required as well.

I'm not advocating for making the process onerous merely to discourage voters. But an election is (or should be) a snapshot in time. Allowing people to vote absentee a month beforehand (where there is no compelling reason to allow them to do so--shut-ins, provably will be out of state on Election Day, etc) distorts the process. What is a voter supposed to do if he changes his mind after the absentee ballot is filed, and prior to Election Day?

All of this is to say nothing of the potential for ACORN-like shenanigans to which Ashrak refers. It's time for a real clean-up of the voting and election process in this country.
