Congressman Presses Clinton on Savage’s Behalf: UK Should Lift Travel Ban
by Capitol ConfidentialThe British government has banned Radio talk show host Michael Savage from traveling to the United Kingdom. The UK government placed Savage’s name on a list of prohibited individuals that is generally reserved for murderers, other serious criminals and terrorists. Today, Congressman John Culberson (R-TX) sent a letter to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, urging her to press her counterparts in the UK to remove Mr. Savage’s name from list of banned individuals. Full test of the letter below:
One doesn’t have to agree with Mr. Savage’s political views or even admire his skills as a radio host to see that it is patently absurd that the UK authorities consider him a ‘threat’ to its citizens. His inclusion on the travel ban list suggests the British Government equates certain political views to be as dangerous as actual murderers or terrorists. Now, that’s a dangerous thought.

Savage is a bit of a blowhard and I often turn the dial when he is on however, what has been done to him is not right and our government and other media should stand up for him.
I expect nothing less from a bunch of demented socialists, and they wont even explain why he was put on the list, I smell Obama.
Great Britain is nothing but a Liberal enclave anymore. Of course they see his political views as dangerous. The Libs in charge over there are scared to death that his words might actually wake a few of their citizens up. Just like the Libs in the US, the Libs across the pond can't stand anyone that has an opposing view point. Liberals always want to ban opposing speech rather than debate it.

I am not a fan of Savage's. I consider him so ignorant as to be classified as retarded. With that said, I've witnessed more ignorance by British citizens and other tourists in Britain and they have not been booted from the country.
I guess all the other problems have been solved, so Congressmen can now move on to millionaires who aren't allowed to travel as freely as they'd like?
I couldn't possibly care less, other than the point being made that suppression of speech is a bad idea.
Something's Fishy!! Smells like Obama, and PM Brown is 'brown'nosing him. This is a disgrace, and all media should be concerned. In fact, all free people should be concerned, very concerned.
Weather one likes Savage or not, we must all fight for freedom of speech at every turn.
This whole ordeal is complete b.s. as Savage was not even on the air in the UK. To ban a talk show host and place them on a list with murderers and terrorists is out of control. Our administration had a hand in this….Thought police commies.
GO SAVAGE.
It's nothing new. The guy who created the movie Fitna (I can't remember is name. Joost something?Joorg?) is also on Britain's Do Not Admit list. Back when that story broke, the reasoning was that his mere presence would incite riots among the large Muslim populace. It's a backwards way of admitting that some Muslims are very dangerous, but at least they admitted it.
Britain after a decade of Labour has devolved into the most oppressive Nanny State on the planet. They literally do inspect kid's lunch boxes and the gagbage bin outside your house. Check this out, safety inspectors can enter your home to determine if it is safe for children:

It's death by a thousand paper cuts, just like the Dem's flurry of bills and trivia here, it is designed to fatigue the public into submission. State sponsored Hollywood and the media do their part too.
Its a lib mentality to make it a personality contest rather than a matter of principle
socialism is govt. media, as Reagan pointed out do you want a free press or a govt. press
I prefer the 10 minutes it took to compose this letter in defense of an American citizen's 1st Amendment rights over the 8 months that Congress has wasted on a Marxist Healthcare Bill that raises costs, increases the deficit and creates rationing.
I've noticed several commenters who don't particularly agree with or enjoy Michael Savage, but think it's an outrage that he has been declared persona non grata by the Commie-Libtard British government.
I'm with them. I, too, turn him off after a couple of minutes. I just can't take the guy. He takes calls from admirers, but, due to his lack of mental acuity, misunderstands their words of support. This happens routinely, LOL. He'll have no friends left pretty soon.
Still, why would the lame-assed Brits prevent his entry into their moribund country?
I have nothing new to add. I don't know why it took so long for me to say so (LOL).
No, Geert is back in.
The last Conservative government wasn't really any better. All the major British political parties are statist, and there isn't really a viable small government conservative or libertarian alternative.
As I understood it, Brown's now disgraced and gone, a separate scandal, Home Secretary, harpie, Jacqui Smith needed to add a counter-balance to the preponderance of terror spewing Muslims banned from Britain for good reason. Savage was the token addition to the list fo pure pc cover .
The the lights have been dimming on the sorry state of socialist Britain. Keep in mind that they have no First Amendment. No does Canada. Both are places where lefties have had a field day.
That sounds like my own understanding of the situation. These people are amazing (and I don't mean in a good way). It's their way of saying, "See? We don't just exclude terrorists and malcontents. We're not racially or religiously profiling you guys. See? We won't let an American talk show host in, either!"
although i do not agree with all of mr savages ideas i do listen to him nightly
what has been done to him is an outrage and i am glad to see it is getting some
coverage
my wife and i were planing a trip to gb before this happend but we changed our
plans and went to sa instead
Britain gave a new name to dictatorship SOCIALISM.
hippie,
Think you made the right decision. Not only did you express disdain over thier foolish decision in this case, but GB is EXTREMELY expensive these days. The price you pay for Socialism I guess.
Nope, that would either be Russia or Paris (as in the Commune of 1871).
First time I heard Savage, I had the station turned off within a minute……Years later, I gave him another chance, and he is bar none more knowledgeable about more things, loves sarcasm, and slinging insults and names at his opponents, quite entertaining at times ,Yet he defends America with a passion that borders on insanity…..BORDERS,LANGUAGE,AND CULTURE………..He doesnt insight violence, and is no racist, yet during some of his satire a part time listener who doesn't know him might take it that way………………He puts his money where his mouth is,and battles for free speech in the Western World…………….yet only ONE AMERICAN POLITICIAN,and no conservative media says a thing!……Well, they will be next……..Sign the fight for free speech petition ,whether you like him or not….at Savage.com
I find it hard to believe anybody in the British Home Office was tuning into the Michael Savage show. The man had absolutely no profile in the UK till this fiasco. This was definitely the sneaky handiwork of the Obama administration in my opinion. Fortunately, Savage is making a big stink over this and giving the Home Office an unexpected headache. They picked the wrong guy to trifle with. Go Mike!
Thank you! It is about time some of the media even acknowledges that Savage is alive! I love Glenn, but if this was him, or O'Rilley, or Rush they would be standing up for them. If it were them they would be screaming at the top of their lungs about their rights and demanding the government do something about it.
This has always had the fingerprints of the Obama thugs all over it. The british did'nt even know who Savage was, oh but Obama does because Savage has been on to him from the beginning. Even before Glenn figured it out!
If we don't stand up and defend Michael Savage, who will we defend? I mean, seriously. He's got one of the most listened to talk shows in the United States. He has never advocated violence. So is liking his show a qualification for having conservatives rally to defend one's rights to free speech and free travel? Is not liking his show a permissible reason to put him on a list of murderers and terrorists? If we let them do this to Michael Savage, who will we stand up for? When will this kind of thing start happening in the United States? We cannot let this precedent stand. We must defend Michael Savage's right to speak. We must make the United States government defend one of its citizens.
Untrue. Check out the UKIP which began as a fight against the Euro-nation, but is morphing into precisely what you just said the country didn't have.
Yeah those evil rich people! Why arent we millionaires, they dont deserve anything because they are rich, peole that arent millionaires are more deserving, i feel like an enlightened liberal now, a worthy egalitarian
I knew it hat two vowels in it, at least.
I hadn't heard that they let him in the country. Were there riots? Did Muslims immolate Geert in effigy?
A few victories in low-turnout European elections don't make the UKIP a viable alternative. Anyway, what do they really stand for, besides withdrawal from Europe and immigration reform? looking at their literature, there doesn't rally seem to be anything else there.
What does that have to do with what I said? Really? You're in favor of Congress personally interceding on behalf of individuals who have disagreements with other countries? Especially when those people have enough power or money to garner that attention?
Evidently the thought of smaller government isn't high on your agenda.
I'd prefer it did neither.
Your post reeks of envy, i guess thats not obvious to you. evidently you dont think someone is worthy of govt. help because they are rich. Evidently the govt. should only serve poor people, Evidently "poor" will be determined by a newly created govt. buraucracy, how is that small govt.?
If i think a govt. has wronged an American I agree with, then give it to them with both barrels, at least i know its govt. money spent on something i agree with and that dosent happen very often. Evidently govt. money spent on a lib agenda is more worth wile in your opinion. Evidently all the evidence is in when you decide it is in.
wait a minute…you're asking hillarity to "stand up" for an…american?…she's occupied…at the moment she's assumed the "presidential position' licking the boots of every second-rate despot on earth.
I really enjoyed that, most thought provoking. Do you have any recommneded further reading?
Great post, would you mind if I linked to your fine words from a handful of UK focused blogs I run?
