Coburn to Senate: You Actually Have to Pay For These Bills
by Capitol ConfidentialThe Democrats are holding a press conference at this afternoon to blast Senator Tom Coburn’s demand that new programs and increased spending approved by Congress be paid for.
At issue is a veterans bill that the Senators would like to pass and issue press releases praising themselves for supporting over Congress’ Veterans Day vacation. Problem is the bill is not paid for and therefore is just another bounced checked to be charged to future generations of Americans who are already inheriting the $12 trillion debt created by Congress’ reckless addiction to borrowing and spending. In addition to not being paid for, the bill discriminates against many vets who sacrificed for our nation and were injured as a result.
In the letter, Senator Coburn points out “Our veterans have sacrificed for our nation and now it is time for Congress to make some sacrifices too. If we expect our brave men and women to put their lives at risk, certainly members of Congress can put their political careers at risk by making tough choices to pay for new spending.” He further notes “It speaks volumes about the misplaced priorities of the Senate that Congress would increase its own budget by $250 million, earmark billions of dollars in pork projects for campaign contributors, and waste days debating trivial bills like tourism promotion, but not take the time to seriously address the concerns of veterans and taxpayers.”

Bills need to be paid for and they need to quote what part of the Constitution legally authorizes the bill!
Until the deficit is brought back to pre-Obama levels and a solution is in place to control future spending, there is NO need for additional bills to spend money!
Kudos to Senator Coburn!
Cut up the Credit Card!!!
And CONgress continues to write checks they can't cover……………….I have an idea….Let's RECALL all elected officials who have long gave up working for their constituents and have caved into Hussein and his Posse of Clowns.
Another idea………Just remember to vote in 2010 and 2012 and let's put an end to this non-sense!
I agree with Coburn, however, you all know darn well that they're gonna make us pay for it and they're far richer than we are.
Glad at least one of the 535 members of Congress is minding the store… and looking out for his bosses (that would be us)…
Our legislators may come to their senses when China calls in all of our outstanding obligations. The Capitol may well be mortgaged to Beijing physically as well as ideologically.
I couldn't agree more- bills need to be paid for.
And we need to go way back before Obama levels of spending. Deficits were around half a Trillion per year under Bush. Completely outrageous. we need a balanced budget, not deficits of any kind. Obama's enthusiasm for spending is absurd, but Bush blew it on this one, too.
Yep — it's all about perpetuating power to the Dims and their political descendants.
The Libtard Dim-mocrats have a lot of nerve to claim outrage over anything. They ARE the outrage.
Just a little insight into Sen. Coburn and the Democrats. When it gets right down to actions, it's interesting to see who puts our money where their mouths are.

"Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) is a licensed OB/GYN in Oklahoma who has for the last several years been delivering babies for free at the Muskogee Regional Medical Center."
"In May, Coburn received a strongly worded final determination memo threatening him with a Senate censure if he did not stop delivering babies for free. The letter prompted several heated meetings between Coburn and the Ethics Committee in June over the matter, according to two knowledgeable Senate sources."
Rather go to bed with out dinner than to rise in debt….

Keeping books on social aid is capitalistic nonsense. I just use the money for the poor. I can't stop to count it……
Evita Peron
And the solution is SO simple… No more special interest or lobbyist donations, punishment for elected officials who break the law, cut social spending out of the budget, etc… cut down to inter-state commerce and defense of the country!
who was, of course, a well known nazi sympathizer…
pay for the bill? you must be joking…
Liberals never pay for anything. Just watch when they turn on each other over money. Once they get it- invariably from someone else, not through honest effort- they are loathe to part with it.
If it wasn't so sad it would be funny…
My suggestion: Freeze the salaries of all elected or appointed government officials. Give an across the board pay cut to the aforementioned governement officials, starting at 10%, increasing by 2% every two years until the debt is paid off. No raises until America has paid back its lenders. All new projects must be paid for, up front, within the existing budget.
If I bounce checks, there are consequences. It's time government felt some of the consequences of its actions, too.
What happens when China sells our debt to Iran?
When China demands our National Parks be put up as collateral then Congress may start paying attention. Till then, life is just a free lunch for these vote buying politicians.
Iran doesn't have enough money and their Luddite tendencies and national spirituality are anathema to the Chinese except when useful against us. They'll sell it to the Saudis to fund their economic capitalistic revolution. China's billion people need the oil.
But for the sake of it being American soil, I'd offer up California for an even trade.

What's truly upsetting is how these politicians seem to believe that spending money is the only way to fix things. In all this legislation that they have written and passed over the passed few decades, how many bills do you suppose were aimed at saving the taxpayer money? Instead of finding new and more creative ways to spend our nation into oblivion couldn't we just once find a handful of leaders that believe in efficiency and living within our means? Is it really so hard to spend less than our nation makes each year?
Funny that you should mention our national parks. As I understand it they (the Chinese) have surveyed more than a couple national parks in the last couple years.
I would be willing to be that were he doing abortions for free they would love him. That's how backwards an twisted they are. Save the polar bears and the whales but tax the air they breathe and encourage them to kill their own babies. Stop the world! I want off.
Awesome idea. Wow. We would be free of Hollywood and countless illegals as well. I can think of a couple of east coast states that could also be leveraged.
How about we just give Hawaii to China and call it all square? It's far enough away that we won't miss it a bit, and would still present half the Pacific for a buffer zone. We'll always have Guam. . .
Wouldn't that just make Barry glow with pride and nuclear ambition!?
A senator -dared- to suggest paying for something!? I am appalled. It is well known congress always spends but -never- pays for anything. This senator is acting like one of those mob like tea people. Really, I find this entire thing terribly uncouth. He should go back to whatever working class hole of a neighborhood he came from and leave the Washington elite alone.
From the Tulsa World:
"Key provisions of the bill are designed to improve health care access for wounded veterans, especially those in rural areas, and women veterans.
Benefits including counseling and a stipend would be made available to caregivers of wounded veterans.
The American Legion, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, Wounded Warrior Project and other groups have launched an effort to get a vote scheduled on the bill. "

Sickens me our brave military are in harms way to improve the lives and rights of citizens across the globe and Libs in congress are striping rights of citizens back home with nanny state care.
War wounded veterans should be priority #1.
Good for Coburn!
It never ceases to amaze me that the American public votes for these bottom feeders. To have such a brazen, ruthless group as the pelosi/reid/boxer/feinstein/dodd/frank/waters/jefferson/wrangel/schumer/kerry/lautenburg/clinton crowd get elected then reelected shows there's either a problem with the electorate drinking fluoridated water or experiencing severe degradation of America's public education system.
