Senator Zeus: Kay Bailey Hutchison Earmarking Your Taxes For Her Odd Fixation on Controlling Hurricanes
by Capitol ConfidentialChristians believe God can calm the seas, and Greeks believed Zeus controlled the weather and showered down thunder and lightning in anger. Apparently, now Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison of Texas seems to think she too can control the winds and the rains by earmarking over a hundred million of your tax dollars to dubious research at universities in her state, even though the idea was long abandoned by government scientists.

Senator Hutchison, recently named “Porker of the Month”, says she wants to earmark $125 million during this recession to, in her words, force “Mother Nature” to “alter her course.” As Al Gore and President Obama have failed in their quest to control the oceans, Senator Hutchison thinks she can finally get Mother Nature to listen to politicians. Good luck!
Unfortunately for taxpayers, Senator Hutchison has refused to listen to our nation’s top scientists on this issue. As reported by the Washington Post, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has officially rebuffed this idea. In a letter, NOAA bluntly explained that the government ended this futile research years ago and there is nothing new to indicate it will ever be successful:
NOAA does not support research that entails efforts to modify hurricanes. NOAA, and its predecessor agency, once supported and conducted research into hurricane modification through Project STORMFURY from 1962 to 1983. Project STORMFURY was discontinued as the result of:
1) inconclusive scientific results, and
2) the inability to separate the difference between what happens when a hurricane is modified by human intervention versus a hurricane’s natural behavior.
Since Project STORMFURY’s end 26 years ago, NOAA scientists have gained substantial insight on the complicated and interconnected processes within the overall hurricane environment. Yet, it remains unclear if enough knowledge has been gained to make any new modification attempts practicable.
And fellow Texan, former President George W. Bush, tried to stop Senator Hutchison years ago. His White House sent her a letter in 2005 when she first began pushing this idea of controlling the weather stating “liability, foreign policy, and national security concerns.” President Bush’s administration pointed out that even if Hutchison was successful in diverting the path of a hurricane, its just as likely the U.S. could face international rebuke for sending hurricanes to Mexico or face lawsuits from Indian Tribes in neighboring states that could be hurt:
Because small scale weather modification (e.g., cloud seeding) may promote rain in one area to the detriment of another, weather modification could result in inter-state (including Indian Tribes) litigation or private citizen litigation against the modification programs… Small and large scale (e.g., hurricane) weather modification efforts could benefit the United States to the detriment of other countries (such as Canada or Mexico).
While Americans are outraged at reckless Washington spending that has led to a $12 trillion debt and economy with nearly 10% unemployment, you may be wondering why Senator Hutchison believes now is the time to waste millions of dollars of your money on such a wacky idea. The answer is likely that tax dollars will find their way to weather modification projects in Texas. But even Texas universities are warning that weather modification efforts are “not very promising.”

Not to worry, folks. She is going to leave the senate and run for governor of Texas.
Why do I think Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison is going to be supported by the RNC in her run against Gov. Rick Perry. Only a RINO Progressive would think they are more powerful than God.
Where do these people come from and how do they elected to public office? Get rid of all these people! I just saw elsewhere that in light of the pay cuts for the wall street crowd, we should also have congress work on half pay until they sort out the budget and get the economy back on track. Hell give congress a bonus for NOT SPENDING MONEY. It will be far cheaper to give them money rather than have them continue to steal it.
Not in awe of Rick Perry but would have a hard time voting Kay for governor after this.
KBH is a huge bailout-voting RINO. She needs to just retire, because Texas can't afford her big spending habits. Check it out: http://www.washingtonkay.com/blog/gone
OH MY! I'm so very shocked! You mean that Queef Olderman and Rachell Madcow are "REAL REPORTERS"?
Now we know what the standard is.
WTF. Not one link or url to support this entire piece? Is there any supporting documentation anywhere on the internet?
She's not going to run Texas if we true conservatives can help it. She is a Southern version of Olympia Snowe from the most liberal part of Texas (Austin)- she's an elitist who graduated from UT, the largest, richest most elitist university in the country…enough said.
If we're going to alter the laws of Physics, how about making calorie free Dark Chocolate?

By Hutchison's own accounting, she has steered $8.7 billion to Texas in the last five years. And as Congress finalizes the 2010 budget, the haul will probably exceed $10 billion – a staggering sum that has never been tallied before. It ranks her among the most successful earmarkers in congressional history.
The anti-MILF. Another RINO fraud. How these malignant narcissists think they can get away with this is beyond me. LOL, next thing we'll be electing a Marxist British Citizen as President, and in plain sight.
Oh, er, wait…
This chick never ceases to amaze me. She has literally done nothing for my great state of Texas. How any conservative can be seriously thinking of not voting for Rick Perry is laughable. If as a conservative, your thinking is"at the very least do no harm", then Perry's your guy. While all the other states have been crushed by the recession, Texas has been very lightly affected.
This is in large part by our non-existent state income tax. Cap on property taxes and overall weakness of our legislature and Governor to seriously do harm. The state Constitution doesn't give them too much power. Local municipalities, on the other hand, can really screw things up through zoning and the like.
Hutchison can do nothing all on her own. She does not need to be my Governor.
*shakes head* Controlling the weather is just asking for a bigger catastrophe than a hurricane will ever create… :-/ Even a Professor at the University of Oklahoma School of Meteorology, says this won't turn out good.
Calling all true conservatives. Texas simply can't afford to have Senator Hutchison as governor. We need your help to win this primary! It could be a real statement for the direction of the GOP. Follow us on Twitter (@GovPerry2010 for the campaign feed, or @GovernorPerry for Rick Perry himself), or text "FED UP" to 95613 to get in the loop. You can also check out http://www.RickPerry.org or http:/www.WashingtonKay.com for more information about how you can get involved and help the true conservative, Rick Perry, win in March 2010.
I agree… I know I'm not voting for her. I'm not a big fan of Perry, but I'm definitely not a fan of Hutchison either.
No kidding! Let's get our priorities right.
Is there enough room in the loony-bin for people like this?
Its always amazes me the stupidity in DC.

Yes I agree Kay is the worst choice in the primary, but unfortunately us Texans are left with a choice between bad and worst. Perry too has consistently sought the expansion of government in all but election years.
They really aren't very bright, it will be interesting to see what happens in Texas. Kay is going "home" ostensibly to rescue the state from the clutches of the mostly conservative Gov Rick Perry. I can not see how news like this will help her, wait… that's hang on… "I am K-B and I am a leader of the idiocracy, now I'd like to turn the Texas economy into Michigan, please vote for me!"
Shame on Kay. I don't think Kay will win the governor's seat.
Maybe if she closed her pie hole a lot of hot air would be squelched thus reducing potential hurricanes!
Editor note: There were many links in the original article. They seem to have been lost in the transfer to the website. It is our fault. I will fix later this evening. Sorry.

You can find the bill on opencongress or govtrack or watch dog or…..
Sorry Kay, you're fired.
WashingtonKay has funneled millions of $$$ to her husband's firm.

As a Texan myself, I will not vote for KBH for gov, instead I'm voting for Perry. KBH is McCain in drag. And I don't know anyone who would vote for her.
If anyone had any question about who they were going to vote for Texas Governor, I think this might help them make that decision…Vote for Rick Perry! Conservatives please step up!
Forget both Kay and Rick for Governor of Texas. They have both sold us out in a huge variety of ways. Check out a true conservative that represents real people, Debra Medina. http://www.medinafortexas.com
Don't think that you have to chose from the lesser of two evils….career politicians both. Enthusiasm for Debra is spreading like wildfire around the state. Check her out. http://www.medinafortexas.com
Sarah Palin has already announced she's going to Texas to campaign for her good friend Rick Perry in early 2010. Game over.
KBH , meet Christine Todd Whitman. Irrelevant former RINO female politicians who will eventually become talking heads for MSNBC.
Quite frankly, Kay Bailey needs to leave, and be put out to pasture with time served. Texas is better than that, and deserves far better than she can give. On the way out of the Senate, she needs to take Lindsey Graham and John McCain with her………..
I thought only Obama had the power to control the weather according to his rhetoric during th election. Does Hutchison think she's a pagen god too?
If you really want to vote for a conservative, vote for Debra Medina. Both KBH and Rick Perry have spotty records. Medina is the real thing.
Don't know why you're calling all true conservatives, since you aren't one.
I will not vote for Medina, she's indorsed by another RINO Ron Paul.
Ron Paul is a Libertarian and one of only a hand full of politicians the American people can trust.
He doesn't act like a Libertarian, he doesn't take Iran seriously. Now, I do agree w/him on Texas Seceding. But that's it.
Cast your vote for Perry….
Rita,
Ron Paul is the least RINO in DC right now. He votes according to the Constitution and firmly believes in Republican values and cannot be bought.
Debra Medina is a true conservative with values and ideas that Texas needs right now. Look at HER, no matter what you think about who endorses her. We need a Governor that doesn't campaign one way and govern the other way. Rick and Kay's records clearly speak for themselves on that subject.
May I suggest an alternative to Perry and Hutchinson, Debra Medina. Visit http://www.medinafortexas.com to see what she stands for.
Rita, if you think Ron Paul is a RINO, you're ignorant of who he is and what he stands for. He follows the Constitution to the letter. If that bothers you, then I don't know what to tell you.
@ Rita Sowders:
What's your definition of a "RINO"? While we're at it, what's your definition of a real Republican?
hope you all will do some research into the Texas primary !! Take a good long look at a True Texas Conservative! Remember that R.P. was a LIBERAL and worked on Al Gore's campaign for pres. http://www.medinafortexas.com
Let Texas lead our way back!!!
Ron Paul has NOT endorsed her.
Thank God, there is another choice in the Republican primary! Debra Medina is a real conservative with our values. She will stand up to the status quo and work to change the direction of our state. It will be up to us to get the word out. Her campaign doesn't have 15 million like Perry and Hutchison each have, but she's got determined supporters and more coming on board everyday! Give her a look, you'll be pleasantly surprised! www-dot-medinafotexas -dot-com
We can't afford Perry either! The debt has almost tripled under his watch and we needed 12 billion in stimulus money to "balance" the budget this time. We need to change course! Perry only talks the talk when it's campaign season. He's had enough opportunity to show us that it's only rhetoric. Look at his record: Gardasil, FLDS, TTC, Willingham, the border, the debt, etc. etc it goes on and on.
Check out Debra Medina. http://www.medinafortexas.com
please take a look at Debra Medina! http://www.medinafortexas.com
We have more than two choices! Look at Debra Medina. http://www.medinafortexas.com
I just noticed the FED UP text idea, that's funny, he's one of the ones we are FED UP with! Look past his rhetoric! Please!
Thankfully we're not stuck with this Washington big spender OR control-every-aspect-of-the-family Rick Perry (look what he did with the forced STD vaccine and the raid on homeschoolers). Debra Medina is a true conservative with the right amount of political experience. She's not an insider (finally!!), but she knows her stuff. Look her up! You'll be relieved that you finally have someone worth driving to the polls for.
How irritating – all the chatter about Kay Bay, with the insistence we have to vote for Gov.. Good Hair; why not vote for the true platform Republican, Debra Medina? WE can't win by voting in the old status quo.
Perry also supported the bailout. He (as head of the Republican governors) and the head of the Democratic governors signed a joint statement last fall urging its passage!
Then he led people to believe we rejected the stimulus funds! We used 12 billion of it to balance our checkbook! http://www.medinafortexas.com We have another choice, a breath of fresh air and common sense!
Remember Debra Medina is the BEST candidate for Governor of Texas! Debra is the ONLY Conservative! Look at all the mud RickyHutchison and KayPerry throw at each other!! it is all TRUE
Vote for Debra Medina, Texas; Vote for DEBRA MEDINA!!!
If Rick Perry is the GOP nominee in 2010, he could bring down the entire Republican party with him. Beyond that Rick Perry has crossed the line too many times on too many issues. He needs to go out to pasture.
Rick Perry’s record:
•Toll Roads and Trans Texas Corridor – Is it socialism, fascism or communism? (2003)
•Business Margins Tax – backdoor state income tax (2006)
•HPV vaccine mandate – Attack on parental rights (2007)
•FLDS El Dorado raid – Religious Oppression, traumatizes 438 children and their parents; out of control Child Protective Services raid based on crank phone call (2008)
•Defeats Steven Wayne Smith – makes robo phone calls against most conservative Supreme Court judge in modern Texas history (2004)
•Vetoes Texas Eminent Domain Bill – taking your land for a toll road more important than signing property rights protection overwhelmingly passed by Legislature. (2007)
•Signs Hate Crimes bill — Attack on free speech and creates thought crimes, includes sexual orientation as a class! (2001)

I'm from Texas and even before hearing this story I had a really bad feeling about her. She definitely won't get my vote!
I just learned about this web site, but I will return. I appreciate the information here. I was sent this address by a friend, laughing at the above article concerning KBH’s support for controlling weather research. One would have to laugh over this article, or they would cry. It is difficult to think that KBH is not ashamed to show her face in public let alone be running for office. The reply posted above, details why any voter who loves liberty cannot in good conscience vote Perry back into office.
It is a GREAT thing that we are not forced to vote for the lesser of the two evils in the March primary. We have a true Texan and a true defender of Liberty and our Constitution. A candidate who was asked by the citizens to run for the office of Governor. That is Debra Medina. If you are not familiar with Debra and her policies go to http://www.medinafortexas.com or just google Debra Medina for Governor. Be sure to check her out on Facebook and YouTube. The Republican Party and the media maybe ignoring her, hoping she will go away, but frustrated freedom loving voters and tea party goers have found our leader. Come join phase 2 of the Ron Paul Revolution!!
Check out Debra Medina. Not only is she a true conservative; you just gotta love a dark horse with guts to stand up to the Republican establishment that has nearly caused the party to collapse.
You think Perry is a true Conservative? Trying to force a STD vaccine on 13 y/o girls; being the biggest cheerleader in the state for what would have been the largest land grab in the state history (against his own party’s platform); you say that the state does not have an income tax, but you fail to mention Perry’s “Margin Tax”, which for businesses is worse than an income tax; just 2 days ago there is an article in the Dallas Morning News, that Perry appointee chairman of the TABC is shaking down bar and Restaurant owners for $1,000 donations to Perry’s campaign; the list goes on and on. Any Republican that would vote for either Perry or KBH is blind, they are both Statests.
Perry's got a lot going against him, but Hutchinson…she's a real flake. God help us all if she gets in! She won't be getting my vote!
I'm amazed at the people who come in here claiming Rick Perry is a conservative. Laughable, really. From the emphasis on KBH and RP as Republican candidates in the media, I assumed Medina was running as a Democrat. I'll have to check out her site. ANYTHING is better than these two neo-con/neo-lib idiots. Texas deserves better. Oh, by the way, I like Kinky but I still wouldn't vote for him and I sure as hell would never vote for the other two Dems. They'd turn Texas into DC within a year. NO, THANKS! With Perry and Hutchison, they would turn Texas into DC in 2 more years. Better odds but none I'm willing to accept. Whatever happened to conservatives????? WHERE ARE THE CONSERVATIVE CANDIDATES?????
Well I think both Perry’s and KBH’s records speak for themselves and neither are good for the truly conservative Texan. I did have the pleasure of hearing an alternative to them though on the 20th in Abilene and was more than pleasantly surprised. That constitutionally conservative voice was that of Debra Medina.I was really impressed with her knowledge of the constituion and issues that face us on the state level and also on a National level. I am in her camp and will do what I can to see her get elected. Being a 912er and one that is sick of the direction this country and state are heading I am looking for someone that will bring a new face to the Governor’s race and I believe that to be her. I encourage you to ck her out either in person or via the internet however the internet does not do her justice as she is much more impressive in person.
Lol…. you have to text "fed up" to rick perry to get in on his news stream… I'm fed up with him!! He is an anti-Texan. Foo-y with KBH… Only Medina has my vote and support.
Rick Perry is corrupt. No well informed citizen would vote for him. Check his actual record – not his rhetoric. If you want a real conservative with integrity you have to get outside the political insiders – vote for Debra Medina and join her facebook page as a supporter. See http://www.medinafortexas.com

• Signs Hate Crimes bill — Attack on free speech and creates thought crimes, includes sexual orientation as a class! (2001)
• Globalist bootlicker – for United Nations, NAFTA, CAFTA, Trans Texas Corridor, Bilderberger suck up.
• Governor for 9 years, then reads about the 10th Amendment a few weeks ago. (2009)
• Supports No Child Left Behind Act and Dept. of Education (Hey, is the federal government running your local school in the Constitution? Fine with Rick Perry.)
• Endorsers liberal cross dresser Rudy Guiliani for President (2008) – tells his good friend Mike Huckabee I love you like a brother, but you can’t win so I am going with Rudy Julie Annie, he’s a sure thing! The Bilderbergers said I can be VP if I grovel enough and am for toll roads, globalism, open borders, big government and, of course, the Federal Reserve.
• Token opposition to illegal immigration – probably because the illegals will be building all his toll roads! Opposes wall on Mexican border.
• Does not stand up for elected State Board of Education every time it gets castrated by the liberals in the legislature (2000s). Throws crumbs to conservatives on SBOE, but when they really need him, hides under desk, sticks fingers in ears.
• Instituted state CHIP program!, a widely abused program and one more step to socialized medicine, more taxes and rationed healthcare. (Hey, is CHIP in the 10th Amendment?)
• Texas Enterprise Fund – basically, Rick Perry’s slush fund for politically connected insiders, another WASTE of your tax dollars. Big Government + Big Business = Fascism.
• Supports whopping $3 Billion Cancer BOND, the Lance Armstrong cancer tax – more taxing, more borrowing and more spending. (2007).
• Tries to intimidate FEMALE state trooper who pulls him over for speeding while he was lieutenant governor, telling her “Why don’t you just let us get on down the road?” as she was writing him a ticket.
• Tells a Houston tv reporter Ted Oberg “Adios, mofo.” (2005) I’ve got a feeling who the voters are going to be saying “Adios” to in 2010 in the GOP primary …
Medina for Texas!!!! http://www.medinafortexas.com
Calling all true conservatives! If you are tehn you should cast your vote for Debra Medina. Therre is some "change you CAN believ in".
That is just fine if you are crazy about illegal immigration, Eminent domain and the open border Trans Texas corridor. The NAU was just t precurser to global government. Perry and Kay Bailey are preordained progressive liberals that support the one world government folk…free trade and not reciprocal trade. America is going to lose its' sovereignty. Perry is talking out of both sides of his mouth; he has no intention of demanding state's rights. Why would he when he is entangled with the corrupt politicians in Washington! Wake up conservatives! Wake up Texans. Medina for governor!
