Congressman: Sherrod’s Hiring Should Be Investigated
by Ben ShapiroYesterday, I had the opportunity to interview Congressman Steve King (R-Iowa) for my radio show, “The Ben Shapiro Show,” which broadcasts every Sunday 1-4 PM ET in Orlando, FL. The topic of Shirley Sherrod came up, and in particular, the topic of the so-called Pigford Farms settlement.
For background, the Pigford Farms case is a class-action lawsuit filed against the federal government on behalf of black farmers and black wannabe farmers, who say they were discriminated against in loan proceedings. The federal government settled Pigford Farms for an unbelievable $1.15 billion. An incredibly high percentage of those receiving awards under this settlement have done so fraudulently.
Shirley Sherrod was not only an initiator of the Pigford Farms case, she received a chunk of change for her company, New Communities, Inc. To be accurate, she received the largest chunk of change for New Communities — $13 million. New Communities was a bankrupt commune-type land trust held by Sherrod and her husband. She and her husband personally received $150,000 each to compensate them for “pain and suffering.”
I asked Congressman King about this, because he is on the House Agriculture Committee. He pledged that if Republicans won the House back in November, he would initiate an investigation into Sherrod’s hiring, which is deeply suspicious at best. Why would the USDA, which had been shaken down by Sherrod, hire her?

Let's just leave it at you being flabbergasted. Other than that, you have no idea what you are talking about.
Great story Ben,
I believe this story is the reason Obama fired her in the first place.
Bingo! Great post and right on the money!
Why did Obama fire her so quick? Andrew, who is the source of this story? Something smells fishy here. Is it possible that the regime wanted to fire her and had somebody leak the story?
Agreed that this is a corruption scandal of huge proportions. Amazing that it only came out as an accident. Shows where the state of journOlism is.
This is what I've been saying. The NAACP, Obama, and the MSM have glommed onto the Sherrod firing as a means to try to destroy Andrew Breitbart. But there are some really questionable, and reportable, activities that include and center around Sherrod.
They have latched themselves to someone (who should be interviewed much more often, because she can't keep her race obsession out of any exchange it seems) who can only bring them down.
I did a search for "Pigford Farms Case" and found this article from the High Plains/Midwest Ag Journal. It's pretty interesting, and questions how the number of people filing claims under the Pigford case is nearly double the amount of African American farmers in the U.S. Particularly telling is this sentence:
"Unfortunately, few people at USDA are willing to even discuss this topic for fear of appearing racist."
http://www.hpj.com/archives/2010/jun10/jun7/0601A...
Just make her a "CZAR", they are untouchable it seems…..
Reparations are alive and well — happening right under our noses. How many other cases like this?
The bankruptcy was caused by the corruption of our government. This story is an integral part of trying to pull things back from the brink. This is what reporters need to be doing and, yes, congress needs to be held accountable for the phony lawsuits and subsequent windfalls of their lackeys.
Thanks for posting that. Very interesting.
Given that the First and Second Reopened Pigford lawsuit are expected to cost the US taxpayer over a Trillion dollars total when all is said and done this issue is relevant to the budget deficit.
And there are more claimants than there were farmers, some congressmen are claiming there are about 73,000 farmer that qualify when USDA figures and census figures indicate there were less than 30,000 farmers.
Now the Native American lobby and La Raza are discussing their own Pigford cases for native American and Hispanic Farmers.
So you see this matter and these lawsuits can and will effect the federal deficit.
As of 2003, Pigford 1 cases had settled and litigated out to over $600 million (keep in mind they had a set aside of about $100 million tops for that case) More was spendt since 2003 on Pigford 1 claims (evidence Sherrod's $13 million was one of those Pigford 1 cases that just recently settled within past year.)
Obama put $1.25 Billion not $1.15 Billion in his Budget year 2010 for Pigford 2 cases.
It is my understanding that the full $1.25 Billion was approved by congress.
This $1.25 Billion is only a set aside for class action claimants.
The claimants who decide to get their own attorney-Like Mrs Sherrod did-will get higher awards.
This is NOT a racial issue-the US taxpayer simply cannot afford the cost of this payout.
$1,25 Billion in BY2010 sees Sherrod Quote.

"One point 25 billion is not enough," said Shirley Sherrod Georgia Director of the Federation of Southern Cooperatives. "So now we're scrambling to see what we are going to do."
In 2008's Farm Bill the offer was $100 million. Secretary of Agriculture Thomas Vilsack says he wants to correct past errors by the USDA and move forward with a new civil rights program. "
again I reiterate that as of 2003 according to USDA over $600 million had been paid out to Pigford 1that on top of the 100 million in 2008 and the $1.25 Billion in 2010. and this is just part of the costs.
FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!! Someone caught this story. I've been telling this story since her initially because a media horde. Something's rotten in the state of Denmark and I bet I know what it is……..if only someone would smear this across the web and front pages…………..
How do you get this on the front pages????????
No one is ever interested in Ag issues, I tried to bring this stuff up several times over the 6 mo
I've been commenting at BG…………….CRICKETS!!!! All winter I wrote about Ag issues every time
an piece on corruption, ethanol, unnecessary spending, bla, bla, bla. Now I have a huge back-
log of work, need to be out working and I dare not miss this opportunity while the issue is hot.
The weeds on this place may be 5 feet tall by the time I get around to them.

This on top of the $600 million that had already been paid out as of 2003, June.
There are quadriplegics with egregious injuries that get less money than Sherrod got in their Personal Injury claims.
SHAME on the shakedown of the US taxpayer.
THANK you for finally covering this matter.
Obama put $1.25 Billion in BY2010 and the full amount was approved by congress-this is ONLY for the class action claimants-not for the claimants that free lanced with their own attorneys-like Sherrod did in her Pigford I case.
Expect these cases to cost over a trillion when all is said and done.
That ignorant biatch shamed herself by opening her mouth and inserting her size thirteen brogan shoe into it.
Like I said, can anarchy be to far away?
The dept of Ag is another joke. It should not be doing loans anyway.
I am sure most all banks discriminate when poor people ask for loans. They should get a job, save a little, get some collateral, then ask a real bank for a loan. Don't need no stinking government for that!
Sherrod is quite the double dipper with a huge conflict of interest with her former employer and Vilsnack is just a good hearted dupe.
What are you a Racist?
Just Kidding.
Seriously, the only people labeled "racists" by the media are those who oppose socialism, marxism, communism, and Islam. White Marxists get a pass after beating a black man in daylight while shouting the N-word. (Kenneth Gladney).
These racism charges are Marxism under another name. That's the real danger to our nation, unreformed marxist idealouges like our president and Shirley Sherrod.
Please check out my new blog: http://colonize.wordpress.com/
I know EXACTLY what you mean. My dad is a farmer in rural southwest GA. No doubt he and others have been royally screwed over in the name of "fairness" since she was the USDA Director for the state of GA. Corruption is rampant in her old hometown as well. I should know…I live there! Her husband wreaked havoc on the town. Do a little research on Charles Sherrod and his past as well.
onecornpone … perhaps now, this will become more than just an Ag issue. but, alas, I think not.
I had never heard of Pigford, until yesterday and after reading as many links as I can, I am appalled that Sherrod was employed by the USDA, let alone that she has been offered another unique position.
I can understand your frustration.
If it's any comfort, some people are more informed about the pure hypocricy of Sherrod and the position she held at the USDA, because of your persistence.
"The statists are getting very worried as their gig is almost up. "
THAT is a nifty misspelling.
Thank you. This site has always provided the most accurate and up to date information about this racist employee. There was never any doubt that there was something more to the argument. Thank you for providing the "something more". When I saw her lame attempts to deny that she was currently racist I knew there was something specific about her I didn't trust.
You better believe that's why!! The plot should thicken even more very soon…
You know after watching the entire video of Mrs. Sherrods commentary at the NAACP meeting where she was a guest speaker not member, didn't seem to see much that was racist. But that video that Mr. Breitbart spliced and editted sure made it seem like she was. But I guess finding that out wasn't important to any of you, huh cause you believe him instead of the truth.
I looked into what the senator put out there about Mrs Sherrod's non-profit receiving settlement money and it seems the USDA had purposely refused them assistance on what was becoming a viable farming business causing them to half to actually shut down the business. They sued the USDA and won a 13 million dollar settlement because they were able to prove their case in a court of law.
Mrs. Sherrod wasn't hired by the USDA because they felt exthorted or anything. They recognized that the model her and her husbands non-profit put together and made work was beneficial to rural farmers and that is why she was placed in that position.
Just figured I would provide some truth since most of you internet savvy folks get your info from blogs instead of actually looking up things for yourselves like intelligent people would.
Discredit?? Not at all hard to do. She has no credibility as anything but a scammer.
Demean?? No need to demean one with no demeanor.
Character Assassinate?? Its more like punching pancakes and calling it assault. She has no more character than an Aunt Jemima pancake. (Have you seen her lately?! HOT!
Ooohhh, believe you me this only one branch of the mighty corrupt tree that Is USDA.
Think of the mass graves that were discovered in Iraq, USDA so large and corrupt we
need a bull-dozer and a back-hoe, hand digging is futile.
I will readily admit my motives aren't totally pure, although I do believe in small Fed Gov't, I
got damn tired of the media characterization of farmers as greedy subsidy sucking whores.
At this minute I don't recall what percentage of USDA's total budget is actually paid to farmers,
but, at least the USDA payments we farmers receive have the effect of reducing food prices
to American consumers, Ain't none of us gettin wealthy like Sherrod and her cronies, but we
get trashed by the American public when anything related to USDA surfaces. We're sick of it.
Why just cause it sounded good to say it. First you need to have some wrong doing and so far the NAACP hasn't done anything wrong except not getting info on this video Mr. Breitbart editted to suit his needs and look at the whole video since they had it before they reacted. But I know you saw the whole video and formed your opinion right?
"How do you get this on the front pages???????? "
That's easy. Have a Republican do it.
There's more money to be mined in Gov't Deps all over DC, she's a hog. B: 0)
Actually 1 out of every 7 farmers in the US used to be black. Now because of the practices of the USDA that resulted in the Pigford Farms Case that number is 1 out of every 100. The 1.3 billion is actually small considering the number of farms that they caused to fail and the livelihoods of the families that were destoyed because of this. Much of it was done so that white farmers and towns could get the land from the farmers and build or farm themselves. All it takes is a little less racist look at this and more of an actual investigation into what went on during that time and you could sleep a little better at night. Slavery and racism, lynchings, burning of homes and farms has never happened here in the United States so discrimination can't be believed.
or get swept under the rug because it is causing racial strife, Rush is on that bandwagon right
at this moment. He doesn't have the information yet or he is aware many Repb's are implicated.
Keep in mind these programs are legal and many Congressmen have helped constituents apply
for these grants and loans. It won't look good when that info begins to emerge.
The USDA has become the Department of Rural Welfare.
What would happen to the economy should all farm subsidies end? How long would it take for the free market to sort out what a gallon of milk sells for….in Manhattan NY compared to Manhattan, Kansas?
Who would benefit in the long run should government just get out of agriculture except for inspections and tarrifs?
Wow… Do you think Breitbart had a full understanding of the magnitude of what he had. I think he thought this was just showing how hypocritical the NAACP was being. But now this thing has gone in so many directions. It is the motheroad of news stories now. From NAACP to White House to USDA to Pigford case… wow this story has so many story lines. SherrodGate
No matter who is implicated, they should be investigated at the very least. Questions have to be asked.
Here's more damaging information. Glitches today have made some earlier comments disappear:
http://www.nationalaglawcenter.org/assets/crs/RS2...
To summarize, more than a billion dollars is now waiting to be doled out in Pigford II. All that's needed is for congress to make the appropriation.
“Now, we endured eight years of the Bush's and we didn't do the stuff these Republicans are doing because you have a black President.” – Shirley Sherrod ………….meaning what?
ah Hatch Act ??? – The Hatch Act of 1939 is a United States federal law whose main provision is to prohibit federal employees (civil servants) from engaging in partisan political activity.
LMAO keep,……………you intended to make a joke with the dog catcher comment………………but
our very small town, so small in fact, that everyone knows you AND your dog, got a grant for a couple
of police cars, and a dog-catcher vehicle plus employee. Poor guy was let go when the grant money
ran out. The city cops were laid off and the cars sold also. All this within 3 or 4 years, at most.
I fear that Grassley, having been in Cong so long, may have sticky fingers in this matter. He clearly
is a numbers man, but through the years I've seen him back off many times when he could have
brought blood. I hope you are correct in your confidence in him.
Your info is misleading. The Black farmers were mostly very small tobacco farmers, and we
all know what happened to the tobacco industry. So remove that sub-set from your stats to
obtain a more factual number.
The remainder of your BS tripe is pure fiction.
USDA Meat Inspection Service, I could list more but this is the main service USDA performs to protect
American consumers.
When will you people realize that we need to take the power away from the Feds! The only way to do it is with the FAIR TAX or a similiar new tax. The Feds lose all power, no lobyist, no IRS, and all scammers on welfare and illegals pay into the system. How could we go wrong?
true, but we will need to push this with all our might to see it through. The Ruling Class will
not follow through on this without our continued insistence.
And so it continues ad infinitum. White House, U.S. Representatives, Senators, and all of the Executive Departments. MOST. CORRUPT. ADMINISTRATION. EVAR!!!
The slaves were reportedly promised 40 acres and a mule at the close of the uncivil Civil War.
Although I'm not an expert on this subject, it seems this promise was never carried out. I believe
this may have been the seed for this movement against USDA.
Andrew Breitbart needs to be destroyed, he is a liar who has attempted to destroy at least 3 and probably more people that did not deserve it.
The Hatch act only prohibits political activity on federal property and on government time. It does not take away the right to free speech on your own time.
1corn – I spent a lot of time researching Buddy's facts, and that's what's true, the real story here is not Sherrod, but the AG issues (as you know I posted the other day for my family's farm). If no-one really uncovers this, we commenters can publicly push and push and push with the facts and the links and more facts and more links and let people like me and you follow them and expose them. I too should be working, but this is more important than I can possibly do in my work today.
Does anyone know why she wasn't offered the SAME job that she had before? Could it have to do with this Pigford thing?
"What would happen to the economy should all farm subsidies end?"
JB, alGore opined several years ago that we should eliminate the farming industry in the US, because of
pollution and other issues. He said our food could be more efficiently produced in third world nations.
I believe if USDA subsidies paid directly to farmers was phased out food prices in the US could rise ten-
fold for several years, then possibly back off slightly, due to savings that would accrue from cheap foreign
labor. The food production industry would leave the US just as the steel industry did. The US fabric weav-
ing industry has recently moved from the South to Pakistan and India. Entire factories were dismantled to
be shipped abroad in the last ten to fifteen years.
There are some who don't see having our food and fiber produced abroad as problematic, but others find much to fear in that prospect. Remember the OPEC Oil Embargo, do we want to have a food embargo
hanging over our heads? Something to ponder. Just one more industry outsourced, IMO.
You said a mouthful there BiA, and all the more reason this will probably be swept under the rug,
as there are sticky fingers on both sides of the aisle of Cong in this mass grave.
You've got to read this testimony. http://agriculture.house.gov/testimony/111/111-11...
She is not doing anything more than what you right-wing, communist, good ole boy network ignoramuses have been doing for years. You all are just mad that someone else is privy to information that you all have had for centuries. I wonder how you would fare if someone delved into your backgrounds. What's wrong boys, are you afraid of an African-American woman with an education and intelligence? Don't hide it, divide it. LOL.
You are as full'o'shit as a Christmas turkey, gee………Since YOU LOOKED INTO WHAT THE SENATOR
PUT OUT……….bla bla bla……….who the HELL are you and why would we give a hoot to hear your opinion.
IT SEEMS…………..it seems to me if you were confident in your assessment you would not begin with
"it seems".
WHAT WAS BECOMING A VIABLE FARMING BUSINESS, hate to break it to ya, but the rest of us
farmers get only one tiny window of opportunity of less than a year to become viable. Any longer
than that, they were floundering in denial, or milking the system, I guarantee it.
MRS SHERROD WASN'T HIRED BY USDA BECAUSE THEY FELT ……….bla bla bla How the hell
do you know how or why Sherrod got the job………….are you her PR agent……..are you some flunky
college intern at USDA running shotgun?
USDA probably hired the con artist in an attempt to prevent her from rigging up another scam lawsuit.
She and her husband are crooks and con artists. The actual farmers in their class action suit got
CHICKEN-FEED while the Sherrods took the cream right off the top.
I demand full financial disclosure by Sherrod, her husband and all entities they formed, parnered in,
or advised. There is a terrible stench coming from this affair.
NOW CALL ME A RACIST, YOU CLOWN
where's my $13 million? I want $13 million.
Sideshow alert!!!!!!
Why did the USDA hire someone who just sued the USDA for $13 million?
and how much are all the combined claims from the Pigford shakedown going to cost us taxpayers????
and why are there 70,000, some people say even 80,000 claimants, when the census figures indicate there were less that 30,000 farmers that MIGHT qualify for the case as claimants.
explain pls.
After you explain this to me you can destroy Brietbart.
Conservative estimates are over a trillion when all is said and done.
$1.25 Billion for BY 2010 from Obama-just for the class action set aside.
Pigford I closed and settled in 1999.
Now we are dealing with Pigford II.
Figures from 2003 that i found stated over $600 million to Pigford I-that was in 2003-7 years ago.
Also $100 million went through in 2008.
there are multiple Pigford cases and it appears to be unlimited pay-outs.
No LiO………..they haven't heard us yet, YELL LOUDER !!!
basset, save all info you can, it may be gone when you return
"Mrs. Sherrod wasn't hired by the USDA because they felt exthorted or anything. They recognized that the model her and her husbands non-profit put together and made work was beneficial to rural farmers and that is why she was placed in that position. "
Precisely on point. Sherrod was there to help Pigford claimants sue the crap out the USDA.
Pigford cases were big cause of Senator Obama.
All you had to prove was you "intended" to have a farm.
sign on dotted line-BOOM $50K auto pay-out. with a bonus of $15,000 total $65,000.
but , Honey, let me hold your hand, don't go with the auto pay-out, sue the USDA separately, i did and i got $13 million. let me give you my attorney's name.
here some figures from 2003 regarding pigford payouts http://www.dm.usda.gov/status.htm
USDA giving claimants specific instructions on how to sue the USDA http://www.fsa.usda.gov/Internet/FSA_Notice/flp_5...
You see the reason the case was reopened is because the USDA did not hold the hands of all possible claimants and walk them through the process of suing the USDA.
My guess is Sherrod was the perfect person to hold their hands while they all sued the crap out of the USDA.
This sis NOT about race-straw man!!!
this has everything to do with the Cloward and Piven strategy of redistribution of money and bankrupting the nation.
Yeah and she couldn't get that $13 million award until Bush was out of office and Obama stepped in.
I'll bet those Bush years were painful for Sherrod.
Hasnt this web site done enough damage already to an innocent lady? Are there any more edited versions of the past to be seen regarding this poor lady>?
I live in Steve Kings District. He wont win re-election, most people around here have seen how racist he is. He looks for issues with race in them so he can spout off his radical views and biggotry.
What did Sherrod's father's dispute "over cows" with a "white farmer" come to? It says an all-white jury released the shooter. But who was the shooter?
I have a feeling there's a lot to each part of this story Sherrod has sold for billions. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resignation_of_Shirl...
Is she really the perpetual victim? She founded a black community farm, based on Kibbutzim. I've worked on a Kibbutz, and the ARE COMMUNIST.
She denies being a communist, but she clearly is one. Community farming, if you go back to Marx, is the very definition of Communism.
Next she claims the government "was slow at getting money for a drought." Last I checked, thousands of years have come and go and most farmers never recieved money for a drought. Likely, that's made up as well. The Kibbutzim in Israel are famously unable to operate profitably without government support.
That's right, all those wonderful kibbutzim run at a LOSS. And would it be a surprise that Shirley Sherrod's farm runs at a loss too?
Now she gets billions in funding from the government in a suit against her own agency. From within the agency, she continued the suit until Congress agreed to pay more people who weren't listed on the first lawsuit as legally required. And most of the payouts on the lawsuit (called Pigford) are fraud. Perhaps Shirley Sherrod's $13 million share might also be fraud.
Now we see she is both a Marxist and a racist. You can be both, look at Che Guevara who called blacks very bad words. Now we see she is both a liar (claiming to discriminate, then later claiming she was lying) and a Marxist and a racist. And the list goes on.
So why was her father shot in a dispute "over cows". Can we look at the trial transcripts?
Check out my blog: http://colonize.wordpress.com/
Personally, I sleep just fine at night. Since I never lynched anyone, burned anyone's house down, never owned a slave (or wished I could) and I've never worked for any gov't agency, I have absolutely nothing to lose sleep over. And guess what, nobody in my family did either.
Of course, questioning whether or not there's the the potential for fraud to happen in a case like this makes me a racist, right? Whatever.
According to the DOJ black people can't be sued by whites……
Just reeks, let her sue, and let the dirt on her and hubby come out. She isn't too bright. And exactly what are her qualifications for this job?
What kind of drugs are you doing? I want some.
American Indians never got what was promised, our Veterans don't get what is promised, Shite that were told to stand tall against Saddam didn't get what was promised, the list is long. The women in the middle east are mistreated beyond belief. History is full of people being tortured, neglected, abused, lied too.
Tough s***. So sorry that fate made you be born black. Life is hard.
Another example of the massive corruption from this administration. It's a free for all with our tax dollars.
That's right you racist redneck!
I don't believe for a second you watched either tape. You are simply regurgitating talking points. You certainly didn't read the article.
As for Ms. Sherrod. Keep her talking. She's a gold mine.
Fired her quickly…I'm seeing scenes of how Monica Lewinsky was quickly whisked away from the White House lest someone in the Oval Office got embarrassed. Other than the names and faces it never changes.
King says after Nov to investigate. If we had decent media, true reporters, there would be no need to wait til Nov.
BuddyTWD should get all the credit for this info, he has researched it for years,
I'm just a loudmouth gutsy farmer who can't be shut up. We met up on BG about
week ago and discussed some of the semi-related issues before this bomb
exploded. Everyone should be 'following' BuddyTWD, he has the facts I had
known for years but lacked the time and organization to provide. Plus I become
ill every time I think about all this mess, in other words I had buried it in my sub-
conscious for lack of having a place to vent. This shit can drive one CRAAAZZY!
These loans and grants are Rural Community Development Funds that were supposed to keep small
town America from disappearing. Small town business has suffered since Wal Mart began moving into
mid-size towns all over the US. Rural families want a bargain just as our city cousins do, so we will drive
20 to 40 miles for groceries and other household items. We will also travel for tools and supplies we
need for farm use, although in many instances we need an item immediately, thus must buy it locally.
Small town local businesses tend to get top heavy with management, thus lose their market share due
to continuing to raise prices beyond what the local market will bear. They hire family members, then don't
have the heart to lay them off when we have an economic down-turn or even when the relative can't do the
work required. These programs were designed to help keep these businesses afloat, when they should
have been allowed to fold.
This scam Sherrod Inc had going was a horse of a different color.
Xactly Buddy………….piggyback pigford on and on an ad infinitum ………..B:0)….oink…..oink
The bureaucracy is completely out of control. I'll bet there are hundreds, if not thousands, of Sherrods and her ilk infecting the system. They know the rules and with the help of their friends, they play te system, squeezing every possible dollar out of it. It is corrupt from top to bottom.
Totally agree, Buddy gets all the credit and I'm happy to help dig this one out with you both. There's some real ratholes here, and after reading a bunch of testimony given at Congress, it goes up both aisles pretty heavy.
1.25 billion? Billion? with a B?
WTF?
Obama put $1.25 Billion in BY2010…
Billion with a "B"? WTF?
Folks, we have a congressional approval rate of 11%…that we are not rioting in the streets is beyond me. They know we are powerless and they are banking on our complacency.
What tin he hell could we possibly owe those people that is worth 1.25 billion. And would one "victim" come forward and tell the USA what the amount of their check was?
I smell a revolution brewing.
Wow–it's only beem a couple of days, and here on BIGGOVERNMENT we see another blogger making unsubstantiated accusations against Sherrod, and an unquestioning audience willing to believe them. Don't you think it'd be worthwhile to to find out the truth before jumping on the bandwagon? Isn't that what this site is supposed to stand for?
$1.25 Billion is just from BY 2010.
As of 2003-over $600 million had been paid out, and another $100 million in 2008.
expectations are costs will go over $1 trillion.
the $1.25 Billion in BY 2010 is only a set aside for the class action claimants that get around $65,000 for filing the claim.-others can sue separately-like Sherrod did and she got $13 million within the past year and that was from Pigford I case that closed in 1999.
Hey ya'll as of now the Pigford I case cost over a billion-check it out. http://www.pigfordmonitor.org/stats/
Page 5—
"Also, as part of that bill, farm bill, Mr. Chairman, you and
I both made sure that the Pigford situation was addressed and that
we put in funding of $100 million as a start, not an end, as we
move forward to address that situation."
so ya' think that the $1.25 BILLION in 2010 is a start-DOH!
We need to find out how many of these little suits that are out the scope of the class action claimants got settled out of court and for how much.
see where I am headed with this one?
"By now, I am sure we have all seen the Department-wide memo
that Secretary Vilsack has recently sent to all United States Department
of Agriculture employees laying out his vision for, as he
called it, a ‘‘new civil rights era’’ at the United States Department

Dang it wish I could get my paws on that thar memo…….

Pigford Farms……. how suiting is that?
Total for Pigford I and II is $2.278 BILLION.
and that does not include what will be paid out for the Track B claimants that are filing outside of the class action..and then there is some other claimants filing under a different lawsuit, too. read it in USDA info and congressional records from committee.
i truly hope you take the time to look at this as it is quite interesting information.
No but I am kind of peeved that $13 million of our tax money went to her lawsuit award against the USDA.
social justice…the fast track to the big bucks.
25% of our produce is currently imported, scary thought-heh?
food security is most important to national security.
You should check out what big Farm Corp get in Lobbyist funded subsidies.
Then you would not be so quick to judge the little guys whose main subsidies are tax deductions.
awwww, shucks:)
hey ya'll, I am just happy for the help-we gotta pass it on:)
Only way to stop the insanity is to give it some sunlight:)
posted more-lol-like the toll free number for Pigford claims–oopsy:)
Yep USDA hired Sherrod to hand hold Pigford Claimants and walk them through the process-give them tips on how to got Tarck B in the lawsuit maybe?
Who knows as I am just pontificating here-but given the congressional records from committee, I must say Vilsack and Joe Leonard testified they were putting people in place to do just that.
I wonder if Sherrod got referral fees for sending Pigford claimants to her attorney-lol-again I am just conjecturing that one-it could happen.
"Approximately 66,000
petitions were filed by the September 15, 2000 deadline, and an additional 7,800 putative
claimants filed petitions after that deadline."

This video needs to go all over the net,to bad Glen Beck,Hannity,Greta are not showing this video, I can't believe this isn't on the Drudge report.
Morning Buddy,
Please clarify, as I'm not sure what "Lobbyist funded subsidies" is/are???
"big Farm Corp" terminology can be misleading, in some cases. Our Mom & Pop w/1 full time and
between 1& 2 part time employees would be considered "big" by some, if we chose to incorporate.
Many family farmers choose to Inc for various legal reasons, including liability insurance, tax adva-
ntages, changing from single operator to multi-operator (such as father bringing sons into the biz),
but never the less, each one individually has a limit on the subsidy they may receive. It could be
that a father w/ 4/5 family members would receive a subsidy that might look huge, but in fact be only
average. USDA has changed those 'rules' on multi-owner entities several times and frankly I'm no
longer up to date on them.
It is sad what has happened to Mrs Sherrod. I wish someone would look into a similar situation that happened to an African American female in Cobb County, Ga. She was fired by someone who did not have the authority. A False affidavit was filed in federal court with the help of the Georgia Attorney General Thurbert Baker. No one would listen to her story. Please go to her site and read about this attrosity. Maybe someone can help her.
