Glenn Beck Is Bad For Al Sharpton’s Business
by Brad SchaefferAl Sharpton is not happy with Glenn Beck. On The O’Reilly Factor yesterday he took umbrage with Beck’s desire to “take back the Civil Rights movement.” Now, as I see it there are several reasons a so-called Black Community leader like Sharpton could find that language offensive.
It could be that be Al believes that the Civil Rights movement – one in which Americans of all races, creeds and backgrounds came together to forge a new national character that elevated previously down-put groups to equal legal and social footing with the majority population as a whole – is the exclusive property of African-Americans. He said so much during his counter-rally when he commented on the date being the anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have A Dream” speech on the mall. “This is our day!” Sharpton bloviated. “And we ain’t giving it away!”
I guess the idea that those on the mall this Saturday had no right to that day came as a surprise to Dr. Alveda King who is the niece of Dr. King and was a featured speaker at Beck’s rally. It may have even come as surprise to the late MLK himself were he alive. He was, after all, the man who referred in his
speech to “All God’s children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics…” coming together. And isn’t that what made King’s speech so special? That his was a message of inclusion. Not an “us versus them” but a gigantic national ”we.” King understood that the cancer of racism destroys the entire body (America), not just the organ (minorities) it specifically targets. In comparison, Sharpton’s comments seemed so beneath the memory of King. So petty. So small as to make one shake his/her head and ask what happened to this most noble of movements that began when a woman on a bus refused to give up her seat to a white man so many years ago?
And this really gets to the heart of Sharpton’s problem with Beck’s incredibly successful gathering.
When Mr. Beck speaks of “taking back” the Civil Rights movement, he is not using code language for returning to the days of Jim Crow and “separate but equal.” Sharpton knows this of course. And for so-called religious leaders like Al Barnum to imply as such is nothing more than a cynical act rooted in self-preservation. What Beck means by this is that the Civil Rights movement that arose from the mist of exclusion and bigotry came to champion the ideals of racial harmony, equality, and overcoming our divisions (“we shall overcome”). But somewhere along the way to the promised land it was effectively hijacked by a band of self-promoting charlatans, self-righteous statists, and shake-down artists, urged on by their enablers in the left wing literati, for whom agitation and protest has become a lucrative cottage industry.
The movement has also become synonymous with a certain political agenda that stresses affirmative action, cradle-to-grave government hand-outs, and patronizing attitudes towards personal responsibility. In other words, a litmus test somehow came into being whereby one’s commitment to racial equality is measured by one’s level of assent to the Democratic Party’s social platform.
I argue that the policies that so many left-leaning self-proclaimed minority advocates have implemented (which have imprisoned great numbers as permanent wards of the welfare state while financially rewarding socially destructive behavior) have done more damage to the very fabric of minority communities since that great speech on August 28, 1963 than any klansman would have ever dared
hope for. 70% Black babies born out-of-wedlock. Inner-cities racked in poverty, despair, gang-banging and drug violence. Homicide now the leading cause of death among young Black males. Millions imprisoned. And looming over it all, a haze of political correctness that stifles honest and productive
dialogue about the true causes of the plight so many African-Americans still endure despite an ocean of entitlements courtesy of stubborn adherence to defunct leftist dogma and funded by the American taxpayer.
This state of disharmony suits P.T. Sharpton just fine. So long as he has a fight to fight, real or fabricated, so long as so many of his people remain in a state of second-class citizenship (despite the root cause) his career will be secure and his income steady. Indeed, for men like Sharpton, a truly
color-blind society, ie. getting to the real promised land for which Dr. King dared to pine on the very grounds of the Beck rally, would be the worst thing that could possibly happen. It would make him and his professional protest machine irrelevant and thus would he be a has-been on the political
scene as well as drain his coffers. Worst of all, he would be a nobody. Just another city preacher in a tailor-made suit. No wonder the Reverend Al is all tied in knots over of the hundreds of thousands of Americans who rallied in peace under a clear blue sky to reaffirm the dream that King so eloquently
relayed to another just as peaceful group 47 years before. Sunlight is the best disinfectant, and without the ever diminishing shade of the MSM’s loosening hammer-lock on information framing the discussion on race, it is becoming quite apparent that Dr. King’s dream realized, the one that Glenn Beck wishes to
re-claim for all Americans, would put Al Sharpton out of a job.
In any other business but the grievance industry that is called a conflict of interest. I think it’s time for the Reverend Al to recuse himself from this discussion once and for all.

A competant and fair-minded Attorney General would be bad for Shaprton's business. As would an unbiased media. At least he still has Arne Duncan to "encourage, strongly" Civil Servants to astro-turf his pathetic rallies.
al sharpton is the most racist, dishonest, and stupid public figure I have ever seen. And that's saying something because he's got a lot of competition.
Al Sharpton is a joke. Unfortunately, a rich, famous (notorious?) joke that is awarded a free platform every time he wants to vomit his "ideas" at us.
Sharpton looked the fool…
Thank God for Glenn Beck!
Sharpton is a charlatan, a race-baiter, and a poverty pimp, who needs those downtrodden masses, to lift him up to exaltation, paying their alms and tithes to him.
It is the biggest scam ever perpetrated upon mankind.
Brad, you got that right! Al will need to buy an even bigger bull horn if Glen keeps this up.
A liar and a pathetic buffoon. Imagine his reward when he meets his maker. If he makes in to heaven, at least I know someone who will be behind me in line.
I think that under a new Congress, the IRS would take a good hard look at the tax exempt status of grievance mongering and tailor made suits
Hell, a two dollar whore is worse for Sharpton's business.
I guess the proprietor and customers at Freddy's Fashion Mart didn't need their civil rights protected, huh Al?
Cant say that I am surprised that Al Sharpton will be loosing more as Glenn Beck keeps up his good work. After taking a look at the two, you see that Beck is about restoring/reviving history, bringing God back, honor, faith, charity, and the equal rights we have as citizens to. On the other hand, Sharpton just goes on about racism, hatred, marxism, and what ever crap he has been spewing out lately.
Probably besides a few uber diehards, Shapton will keep loosing more and more to Becks message.
I was particularly roused by Dr. Alveda King's "Dream" speech at the Beck rally. Her vision for America is one for ALL Americans, regardless of race. Sharpton's negative message was an indicator from whence he draws his inspiration. Hint: It ain't God! His cynical message of divisiveness, hatred, and false witness, was an indicator to what source he listens for his messages. The contrast was clear! God's spirit inspiring one man and group vs. some other sullen power on the other. "Listen, to the force, Luke!" vs. "Let your hatred fill you, Luke!"
I was also very moved by the vocal rendition of "Amazing Grace" with the bagpipes, and Glenn Beck's explanation of the roots of that song. That guy's voice was incredible! He will be remembered the rest of my days for his grace and power! God bless him (sorry, I don't recall his name)! Thanks for that gift, to Glenn, his speakers, and the phenomenal musicians!
3 words fit this man so well every time I see his face: racist, bigot, clown. As in: racist, bigoted clown. Like the serial adulterer and impeached BJ Clinton, why do these clowns get any respect let alone air-time? The left's heroes are just despicable.
Al Sharpton is an embarrassment to black people.
A wonderfully stated essay on the exact causes of the plight of the poor in America today. Goodness knows that enough money and our hard earned tax dollars have been thrown at it without ever once addressing the real issues confronting the poor.
The Al Sharptons of the world should scurry back into the dark corners of our society where they came from, they have been shown for the roaches and maggots they are……….feeding of the poor and innocent "victims" in our society. There will be a special place in hades for these race bating bigots.
Hopefully through the work of true God fearing and revering men such as Glen Beck, these peoples will see the light and truth and turn away from listening to the hate speech of those that would deceive them into thinking that they really care about the poor. The evidence when objectively scrutinized truly shows the truth.
Despicable men without doubt!! Wake up and free yourselves from these hate mongers!!
Someone should explain to Al that when says,"this day is our day" that in REALITY "This day is everyone's day!"
Race husslers like Sharpton and Jackson are some of the most despicable people on the planet. They are nothing but trouble-makers for dollars.
But if Sharpton becomes irrelevant, who is MSNBC going to have as a talking head whenever racism is the topic?
I mean let's not forget about the TV ratings! Bringing the country together under God is important, but we've got to have lots of pundits for the cable news networks. Losing out on the rantings of Sharpton will be a real shame.
This is funny.
Nobody ever noticed how similar Al Sharptons national Action Network logo: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Al_Sharpton_2_b...
is, as compared to the logo of the New Black Panthers: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Nbplogo.png
I just don't understand how so many black people are still hoodwinked by this phony. How does this happen? They have to see through his lies, don't they?? Are they that starved for a leader that any fool that promises them something that he can't deliver will do?
MLK is spinning in his grave at what Sharpton has done with his dream….
CBS is letting US rate the President (believe it or not)!
You've got to take 15 seconds and do this and then pass it on.
CBS is letting you Rate the President
First, I can't believe CBS is actually doing this. Second, that they're brave and honest enough to actually show the ongoing polling results. Here is your chance. Everyone should get a shot at this. Takes all of fifteen seconds and that is if you take a look at the results.
Take the poll yourself and when you submit your grading of how he is handling the top issues, a second page will come up showing you the current results of how America is voting. Remember, this ain't Fox doing this. This is mostly people who watch CBS.
DO THIS and pass it on!
http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2010/01/19/politics/...
Get this: Obama's Education Secretary, Arne Duncan was "encouraging" employees of the Education Department to go to Sharpton's rally. One more reason to shut down the Department of Education. http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/local/Education...
The Black community needs to realize that if the dream of MLK was true today, there would be no need for Al Sharpton. He needs to convince the Black community that they are treated poorly by everyone who isn't black. Glenn Beck ,and the others who spoke at his event, all spoke of coming together, no matter what color, gender or creed you were, and working together to make our communities a better place and our nation strong. If the Black people become part of Beck's movement, then they will stop being victims and start being Americans and that would be bad for Sharpton. He needs the divide and preaches racist attitudes and divisiveness to keep himself in a position of power. If you look at the things he says and compare them to facts, you will see a vast difference. Sharpton craves power just like any other progressive.
Sharpton did the linguistic two step on Officer O'Reilly's show last night…
Talk about twisting and spinning. He, like the rest of the East Coast Establishment was expecting Beck, Palin and a cast of thousands of redneck gun totin' Neanderthals with pitchforks calling for their heads.
They got, what Charles Krauthammer correctly referred to, as a 'sweet Sunday picnic revival meeting'. Then the 'hamina hamina' started. The simple fact that MLK's grandaughter was there with hundreds of men of the cloth- of ALL religions, too- made this pretty hard to pick on.
And that, of course, was Beck's masterstroke. The Powers That Be desperately want a violent action involving 'tea party' activists so they can (attempt to) discredit the movement. Beck did not give that to them; indeed he showed the world the benevolent side of the Patriot movement.
Many in the Upper Echelons are verklempt as we speak…
The last thing that Race Bait, inc. needs or wants is racial harmony. Besides, they were never out for equality anyway, but to be "more equal than equal". This is true of all other "civil rights" movements, be it blacks, women, or gays, all of them achieved legal equality decades ago and thus their organizations and their hustlers (like Sharpton) have to become increasingly cartoonish to be relevant.
The irony is that it is only because of racial discrimination in his FAVOR that Sharpton wasn't imprisoned for inciting riots.
This was first published on January 19, 2010 and it's for his first year…. this is older than dirt and probably not even looked at any longer.
"I think it’s time for the Reverend Al to recuse himself from this discussion once and for all."
Amen to that.
They do follow a similar theme there.
On an unrelated topic, is there a chance Sharpton has connections with the New Black Panthers.
This loser is just about done. The American people are tired of his crap. This past weekends rally flopped as bad as his assault on Sheriff Joe. A year ago June, he took a bunch of camera crews to Phoenix and tried to capture the police racially profiling. Two weeks and countless hours of video tape came up with nothing! Just like his rally.
Who are the true racist?
Sharpton should take his nappy headed bigot self home, and call Jack Kevorkian for some meds.
"It is the biggest scam ever perpetrated upon mankind."
Ah, yeah. If you don't count global warming, national health care, stimulus spending, cap and trade, and the election of barack hussein obama, Mmm Mmm Mmm.
if they want him to go away then stop giving him air time
A similar theme? Outside of the colors (which still aren't the same) there really is no similarity between the two. I don't support either group, but maybe we should just stick to the facts about these a$$clowns.
" a fight to fight" … excellent!
A 4 word summary of Al Sharpton's need to be needed, need to be relevant.
Unfortunately, the IRS works under the auspices of the Treasury Dept. Hence, barack hussein obama.
The colors aren't the same?
You need your glasses checked amigo.
You got that all right, except that Alveda King is MLKs niece, not grandaughter.
Nah, not a chance.
Pure coincidence…….
If Al goes away, who will Geraldo Rivera fawn over? It makes me sick the amount of reverence the amoral Al Sharpton garners on FOX and other networks.
Al Sharpton wants to keep the Plantation alive and Glenn Beck wants all people empowered to leave the Plantations and set goals for success without the Government slave masters controlling individuals lives.
I like this poll, even though it is from January. I'm a bit surprised that CBS have kept it open. BTW, F's across the board from me!
I have some black friends most are conservative and some vote Democrat.
Oxymoron I know but we have had some heated conversations about discrimination.
One in particular (a good friend too) truly believes that he is discriminated against because he's black on a regular basis.
Long story short he himself would not live in a black neighborhood and is surprised to think I would not canvas one before I bought a house.
I told him there are laws about refusing to sell to minorities…yea well there are ways around that he says.
He can't point to any time in recent history in which he has been discriminated against yet he still believes it anyway.
He thinks I am liberal because I help people…I tell him I am conservative, but no he says conservatives don't help people like you do Rick. You just think your conservative.
Doesn't like Glen Beck doesn't like Rush or Hanity…The guy is a Christian too, loves Jesus and the bible and the constitution…
Strange… I just keep pointing out that he is treated no differently then any American…His wife made a comment once…You guys keep treating us like white people she says to my wife and I.
He will be the first to tell you his own kind wont help him or his wife. Thats how HE puts it.
"The left's heroes are just despicable."
If you're a criminal, it makes sense that your heroes will also be criminals, albeit more "successful" criminals. i.e. barack hussein obama.
He ain't doing too good. Hope CBS gives the results on air. Over 70% rate him F.
"Goodness knows that enough money and our hard earned tax dollars have been thrown at it"
You mean the "War on Poverty" has been lost? Imagine that.
who knows-with any luck, Glenn Beck will put Fat Albert (not so)Sharp Tons (of BS) out of the race hustling, inspiring crowds of thugs to kill white people , out of business forever. Sharp tons (of BS) will beno loss to society.

Al Sharpton is bad for Al Sharpton's business.
And the poor old lamestink media-hanging around, looking for racist rednecks instead of christian evangelicals.
The new black panturd party can pick up the slack. MSM loves them anyway.
Very well said. Did anyone else catch leftist/statist Bob Beckel on Hannity last night admit that the Democrat statist policies have created two generations of Americans mired in poverty and dependency? Hardly what Dr King had in mind.
I wonder if the "Safe Schools Czar," kevin jennings, was in attendance. Or was there a nambla meeting he just had to attend.
Done. TY
the black community is being played for the fool, ………………sharpton, jackson and their type have ruined the lives of millions playing them for cash handouts
game over
And the dept of "energy"(hello Gulf Oil spill) the dept of Homeland Insecurity(Janet is truly Incompetano-she was governor here in Arizona before Dopebama rescued her from a surefire loss in 2010). Shes the resason the DOJ keeps going after Joe Arpaio-Joe embarassed her more than once. And about 5000 staffers on the Senate and House staffs(way too large) or tyhe White House(Moochelle has 26 staffers?)
sharpton is a small man becoming even smaller. I feel sorry for those who preach the Word, Al is giving the title of Reverend a bad name.
Along with Beck we are bad for his business. Something to be proud of.
I saw Beckel admit that and nearly fell out of my chair. I rewound it twice just to make sure I wasn't mistaken. Maybe the man is having some sort of awakening.
"Who are the true racist?"
Rhetorical question, I know. But it's usually the ones using the words "us" and "them."
Sorry to say it, but if you locate yourself anywhere where there's a million or more people, you can find a niche market for even the most despicable of "causes" to keep yourself in "business."
"If Al goes away, who will Geraldo Rivera fawn over?"
Perhaps Feisal Abdul Rauf.
Hey Rick. I see your story as sad. You can tell your friend that I'll help him out even though I've never met him just cause he and I are the same kind. (Human)
It seems to me that most of the people out there point to ever little thing that may be consider racist are shouting loudly that it is racist before they even see what it is all about. I think most people have evolved to the point that they look at a person action and not their skin color, I may optimistic but that is how I live.
Yeah, it was a rare moment of lucidity for beckel. The rest of the time I wish I could appear on that panel with him. I would chew that sumbitch up.
Of course Al is insulted. A white guy is stepping on his turf… And, what is Al's response? Al's response is to continue dividing people by race. Al continues to make race an issue. Why? Because he makes a good living at it. AND, because he wants to continue making good money at it…
The true civil rights leader will reach out and try to build bridges to create unity… try to make progress towards reducing racial divides. Al does NONE of this.
Tater-thanks, I just did. Seems the numbers are running pretty high agianst the dumbama. I guess SeeBS will try to spin there usual BS and lie again.
Stay optimistic. We need all the optimism we can get.
race baiting poverty pimps,,,,need to become UN-EMPLOYED
Sharpton is a racist, bigoted piece of trash. It's high time this loser needs to be kicked to the curb. He is useless to his cause, useless to the memory of MLK, useless to air time and most importantly, USELESS TO HIS OWN RACE!!!!
He is a leech bleeding his own people for his own gain.
Big Al is fighting to keep his job. What that job is can be debated, but I think Tawanna Brawley says all we need to know about the rev.
Same here-and we dont seem to be alone.
TY John-come to think of it, if See BS wont post them, maybe Brietbart would do there job for them(again)
Why anyone, anywhere takes this man seriously is beyond me. He is a nefarious race monger who perpetrated a criminal hoax, with the Tawana Brawley Affair, where he should have ended up in jail. He has committed, what ethical people would call blackmail, on companies to supposedly help "his people" , while amassing a personal fortune for himself. If the race issue disappeared tomorrow in this country, Sharpton would be out of a way to make his fortune and exploit "his people".
See BS must be quaking in there boots-OH MY GOD, OUR POLL ON DUMBAMA IS KNOWN TO VIEWERS OF ANDREW BREITBARTS WEBSITE.
I saw that too. I'll use the word again for Beckel……"Epiphany".
Good point. Why does FOX always invite Sharpton on their network?
Have no fear I will. It does no good to sit and stew over what is happening and it does nothing to correct the problem.
Excellent summary and analysis. The race hustling industry is slip-sliding away.
Listen to Sharpton closely when he rants. He is part of the reparations and redistribution of wealth crowd. He is a shill nothing more and a BO puppet. Besides the previous already stated, he is highly pissed that Beck and the 300,000 to 500,000 good folks stole his petty thunder on 28 August. Last night on the O'Reilly show Al, the shill, mentioned he had numbers far greater at his gathering than actual photos showed. IMHO, he is just a jealous wannabe who still mentally resides in the sixties and dreams of being the official spokesperson for people of color. BTW, where was Jessie Jackson? If he was there, I missed his appearance.
I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.
Martin Luther King, Jr.
I See the Promised Land – Martin Luther King, Jr.'s last speech
Prophetic words from Martin Luther King, Let his words inspire you today.

South Park made the best comment unbelievably. Jesse Jackson/Al Sharpton are not the Kings of Black people despite what he thinks.
Anyone noticed how when Obama got elected, Sharpton and Jackson went “MIA”? Seemed like for several months you heard practically nothing. Obama went on his hopey changey tour talking about diversity amongst race and such, then suddenly……when the man/boy-in-chief started playing the POTUS race card, that was the school bell ringing that brought these two cockroaches back to the kitchen of hate.
I guess they realized they still had a chance to bilk their race for another term. I LIKE what the Beck rally did to Sharpton. NOT to the memory of MLK or the people who chose to march with Sharpton. Like I said in another thread yesterday. More folks of ALL races came away from Beck’s rally with a sense of purpose, faith and hope for the future. I couldn’t tell you what Sharpton’s crowd walked away with but based on his speeches filled with envy and bitterness, I can’t believe many felt the same way the Beck crowd did.
So REALLY Revvvvvvvv……..who REALLY squandered MLK’s dream on Saturday???? One hint….it wasn’t Beck!
You know, I know most people are looking at those big "F" percentages. But I'm more interested in the "A"s and "B"s. Even if you add those totals together, this guy ranges from 9% on the economy and 19% on Afghanistan. And that's on a See BS (I like that) poll. Aside from wondering who would give him an A or B on anything, I wonder how he can finish out his term without being impeached.
Great article! Al, and Jesse must be shaking in their ill-gotten booties. On the mall on 8/28/10 represents the beginning of the end of the progressive movement, most especially the race hustlers.
He much more than "looked" the fool…
This day is (bleeping) golden.
The race hustlers problem with MLK's dream is the part where people should be judged on the content of one's character. No matter how much of a pig Sharpton is, you're not allowed to criticize him because he's black.
Beck is bad for all business that is based on FRAUD!
I think this rally has received a pitiful amount of press, much of the reason for that is fear. I think the purpose of the rally hasn't sunk in yet, even into the people that attended, the MSM knows fear but they are unsure of what it is they are afraid of.
If the rally works, people will be congregating on Sundays and talking about government given rights and god given rights, they will be talking about the real reason that this country is so far in debt, and they will be deciding that it is because politicians cannot be trusted–I think all politicians should be afraid. Americans are going to discovery that the constitution isn't radical at all and freedom can be taken only if we allow it to be taken by straying to far away from the constitution.
Americans are going to draw strength from one another and rediscover that our rights are from god–there is great power in that fact, great freedom.
Charles Krauthammer nuff said
"race baiting poverty pimps" ARE unemployed, inasmuch as "employment" usually involves having a productive JOB.
Nice post.
Love the new name. I must congratulate their leader on making the change to a more descriptive moniker. The term 'panther' really doesn't fit them well. Panturd is much more representative of their mission.
Your right it is sad.
He has been conditioned
Isn't that the case with many things in America? If we provide a structural solution for the economy so that it can never go into recession again, would anyone want that? Would anyone really want an end to the national debt? Would anyone want entitlement programs to be fully paid for? Would anyone want a banking system that actually didn't discriminate?
In the end, there are many conflicts-of-interest in life. Nobody wants the real solutions because the real solutions come with the price of actually having to blame yourself for your own shortcomings. Who wants that?
Reverend Al is just upset that he was embarrassed by a guy who routinely derides as a nobody. That's what really galls Sharpton. His visit on The Factor is the closest he will ever come to legitimacy and last weekend's events now mean everyone knows it.
The two times they went to investigate Al "Slim Shady" Sharpton, his office mysterious had an electrical fire.
Good cross-reference. Corruption is corruption whether it's blago or sharpie.
"No matter how much of a pig Sharpton is, you're not allowed to criticize him because he's black."
Just like saying:
No matter how much of a pig obama is, you're not allowed to criticize him because he's black.
He has a business?? I guess if he did it could be called RB Inc….
