Ryan: ‘This Bill Is More About Ideology Than Health Care Policy’
by Bob ParksRep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) told Greta on Tuesday night that Obamacare is all about politics and has nothing to do with health care.
“And, I really think it comes down to a political philosophy. And they believe in a political philosophy that is more like a cradle to grave, more of a social welfare state, kind of like you see in Europe versus the American ideal that we’ve known and loved and grown up with. And, so really what this is more about is ideology than health care policy. Because if this was about health care policy we could get a bi-partisan agreement tomorrow. It’s not about health care policy. They are trying to ram it through as fast as they can before their power slips away from them and that’s why they’re trying to create this brand new entitlement which really does have the government takeover 17% of our economy.”

It's NEVER been about health care…it's ALWAYS been about control!!! We cannot let this happen!!!
and obowma is on his way to St. Louie to pitch his plan yet again….this empty suit just can't get out of campaign mode can he….geeze..wasting yet more taxpayer $$$ on another staged event…
This is about power and tyranny over the people, and they know what is best for us. You are spot on, it is all about control European style. Let freedom ring, or we will make it ring from them in Washington soon.
Heard that this is a lockout and some will not be able to attend the healthcare push today in St. Louis. He has given speeches what is this #39 times in his 52 weeks in office.. Please please someone shut him up.. I hope this doesn't get pushed thru cuz' I think that it's wrong..
There will be a Czar that will be named soon to monitor and cut off internet comments.. You know saving us all from the potential damage of Carpal tunnel syndrome. It’s all about the caring… they care.
I understood it from the beginning.
"And, so really what this is more about is ideology than health care policy. Because if this was about health care policy we could get a bi-partisan agreement tomorrow. It’s not about health care policy."
With them, it is always about ideology. That is how idealogues operate.
For me, it is about the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and States Rights. I will never subrogate my rights as a free man, as a sovereign citizen to them.
The overthrowing of America-Chicago style
Why isn't Ryan running for President? If he announced now he would be all over the news and then he can get this message out to everyone.
Name calling only reveals your IQ.
Two names should absolutely piss off red blooded Americans this morning…
Lindsay Graham and Chuck Schumer….
The reason for the newly proposed "ID" card is this bill and this will be the mechanism of enforcement and imposition of new taxes…
Don't be too surprised when they propose to use these cards as your new form of currency as well…
Those that do not pay for healthcare now… still won't pay, will never pay. I have a vision of how my doctor who works her tail end off is going to look in shackles when she won't treat her list of forced new patient at $10.00 a visit.
I think that is wrong too.. Where do they get off doing that, there is another way to get rid of illegal immigrants and that would be to deport them back to where they came from.
Starting with his aunt that still lives in public housing in Massachusetts.. She was told to leave years ago and didn't..He suppossedly didn't realize she was still here, ya right – she was at his presidential victory speech.
Moron…simple minded retards? Yeah, name calling is always the best way to win an argument.
Jorge?
Is that you?
over my cold dead keyboard with each cold dead digit physically pryed from it!
Nah.
It won't work for me. I'm not interested in any of it.
Funny. Remember the thread yesterday about the Census? I got a letter in the mail today from the Census Bureau, and it said: "In about a week or so, you will be getting your Census documents in the mail"…….
Now my question is this. Why in Gods name would they waste a stamp and mail me a piece of junk mail today, telling me they would be sending me another piece of junk mail a week from now? Am I the only one who finds the stupid irony in this?
Oddly enough, he has plumb disappeared. So has Syntax game and palmtree. Strange, huh?
This is what we've known from the beginning. It's not about x million of uninsured people nor is it about reigning in costs. It's always been a power grab and it's still a power grab. Moreover if it were about saving the taxpayers money they would not be trying to force us to buy that which many of us don't want or need. I wonder how all those healthy college students that voted for Obama feel about being forced to buy health insurance.
have you actually travelled to other countries? Have you tried to get medical care while in Albania, Ecuador, Bolivia, or Indonesia? Same level of care as us??????? What rock are you typing under?
Nope you're not alone…
Considering he's basically been in campaign mode for something for the last decade, I don't think he knows how to do anything else anymore–if he ever did, that is.
They probably took government jobs….
Maybe they are with Assholehoof at the same conference. Maybe they are in a breakout session taking turns learning how to be 'pivotmen' in a circle jerk.
He does seem to have Regan potential in his ability to communicate, forthrightness and quickness of wit. He also seems to have a more grounded practical sensibilities.
Really. And where has the Republican bill been all along? Hmmm. I know, it was caught up in death panel claims. The consertards talk about having their "freedom" taken away. Well, their freedom is the freedom to go without health insurance so the rest of society can pick up their tab. They are just like the welfare mamas they so despise because they expect someone else to pick up their tab. I think it is just hilarious that in Japan, the employers are required by law to pay for the health insurance of their employees and their system works just fine. In America, you bring up the subject and the U.S. Chamber has a fit. Meanwhile, all the responsible employers who provide their employees with coverage are getting fewer in number because the hospitals keep passing down the costs of the uninsured. However, for all the consertards on this page, they can only think of themselves. That is, until they get sick.
Bob, this video is in constant 'load' both here and on nmatv. As for Rep. Paul Ryan's statement he's 100% correct, as usual.
Just say NO to Euro-centric egocentrism. This is the United States of America, damnit… not Holland (or whatever Euro example is flavor of the month).
Hey, SJ Anon did not compare our economy to the countries you have listed. Instead, why don't you look up Japan which requires employers to provide coverage and their system works just fine. Thank you.
You say that "WE spend 17% of our income on health care" –
This is a dead giveaway that you, Anon, are a slacker and a parasite who wants society-at-large to pay for your laziness or ineptitude. Get a job and get off our the public payroll. “We” are actually individuals who can make decisions to spend as much as want on whatever we want. You can take your European model state and shove it.
Video not working.
Yes.
Hong Kong, 1 year. Australia and Italy.
All three of them cover everyone with the same level of care for less than 1/2 of we spend. And I've been to the ER in Hong Kong. And I've been to the ER in the U.S.
Guess which one has the 3-6 hour waiting tine? Hint. It ain't Hong Kong.
I'm in my 50s and could retire if I didn't want to get health insurance subsidized by my employer. I could pay for it out of pocket, sure, but at this point, I'd just as soon keep working a while longer and pay my portion of the insurance costs (recognizing that my employer's contribution is actually a substitute for a higher salary–funny how that works, huh?). I should be all for Obama's plan, right? I have no kids who will be saddled with the cost, so it's a win-win for me–retire and get free health care. Yet, on principle, I'm opposed to this naked power grab. So put that in your bong and puff it.
Obligatory correction: If other countries have the same level of care, how come all the wealthy foreigners come here for their operations and procedures?
"You can take your European model state and shove it."
It's the entire rest of the modern world you dumbass. Not just Europe.
God you people are stupid.

HuskersLoveBo,
I witnessed this first hand Saturday night.
I was a guest of a teabagger. He mentioned that he didn't have health insurance BUT WOULD RATHER GO WITHOUT RATHER THAN HAVE OBAMACARE PASS.
This a man with a wife and children.
And too damn dumb to realize that if he gets sick TAXPAYERS PAY THE BILL. And if he becomes too sick to work, TAXPAYERS PAY THE BILL.
Today's GOP, too damn dumb to realize they are sucking off the taxpayer teat.
God republicans are stupid.
Actually CL I think it is Rahm…speaking from the shadows…or showers.
He will shut up about it after it is defeated!! Then he will act like it never happenned and start pushing Cap and Trade every week.
Here is al little history lesson for all who need to remember, this is about our founders and their vision of America.
http://www.pjtv.com/v/3168
They are not interested in th truth. Not one bit. They do not care they are hypocrites. The only thing they care is to give Obama a defeat, no matter the cost. It is just ridiculous to try to deal rationally with these people. Oh, and by the way, I am a business owner and I pay for my employee's health insurance which has doubled in the past 6 years.
You, anon, are both ignorant and stupid. You're ignorant because you don't have the facts about this abortion of a "health care" bill (hint – it ain't about reducing health care costs; it's about controlling the health care industry). You're stupid because you can't apply simple logic to the situation. Follow the money, MORON, and you'll see what the "fix" is really about.
You continue to post nonsense. Why are you here?
Really, Ted. Then the solution is simply to require employers to pay for the health insurance for their employees. I am waiting for a Republican to introduce the bill.
In 1954 the House of Representatives investigated tax free foundations to see why they are exempt from taxes. They were informed that the reason for this is so that these foundations could use their grant making powers to ALTER (CHANGE) life in the U. S. so that it could be merged with the Soviet Union.
The U.S.S.R. Const. states that — the citizen of the U.S.S.R. is entitled to FREE MEDICAL SERVICE.
That is what this health care reform is all about. This is the goal they are trying to reach.
MInd if I get behind you on that?
Ok.
Just be gentle.
I'll tell you what.
It doesn't matter whether it is Republican, or Democrat, it flies in the face of everything American. How dare YOU, or anyone else demand, or expect Health Care, or anything else. That is not Governments job. It never was, it never shall be.
Nor is it an employers obligation to provide Health Care to an employee. If Health Care is offered to an employee, it is a BENEFIT. Do you savvy what that means, entails, and implies?
Thank you Mr. Ryan but this is not news. What is going to happen BECAUSE of it, will be.
I see. So I assume it is perfectly fine with you that employers who pay for their employees' health insurance and society at large pick up the cost of the uninsured. After all, there are free lunches in this country for the persons without health insurance. Do you Savvy that. I know it is tough to realize the truth and it does hurt.
You are also forgeting the uninsured who cram our ER's, too.
Aren't there provisions in the bill that would keep them on their parents' insurance until they're 26?
Contraire.
Republicans are not going to defeat Obama.
Obama has defeated Obama by simply being Obama.
His arrogance, his hubris, his obnoxious demeanor have done him in.
He has tripped over his big………………ego.
This Health Care Hoax was tried before, by another man with a king sized ego. He was just smart enough to put his wife out front, and let the bus run over her.
Whatever bills is Rahmed through, Congress and the Senate should test their programs on themselves first. If it works and is cost effective great. Lets just see how much these politicians REALLY CARE about america.
They want to piss off the online community? That would be very, very stupid of them. They wouldn;t be worrying about cyber attacks from China or Russia then.
Part of the problem with the system is that we expect employers to provide our insurance now.
What happens in that system when you are out of work or between jobs? Oh yeah, you become one of those uninsured that you constantly rail about.
Until health insurance is a personal or family matter where decisions and payments are made at that individual level, we will always be at the mercy of all others who provide for us.
Anus and HuskersblowBo should crawl back into their dear leader's kneewell and leave us alone. We're not buying this load, and their little brainfarts do little to clear the air.
God called. He wants his time back.
No, Cowboy, the bus is about to run off a cliff. You see, more and more companies are dropping their insurance coverage because hospitals keep passing down the costs of the uninusured to the persons who have insurance. The number of businesses dropping the coverage is increasing every year. So far, the Republicans have proposed nothing and I repeat nothing to handle this problem. So all their anti-trust nonsense, selling insurance across state lines, etc., does not deal with the problem. The problem is THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A FREE LUNCH and the persons without health insurance are taking advantage of the persons who have it and society.
" And all of them provide the same level of care as us"
Utter horseshit.
"I was a guest of a teabagger."
So you were the teabaggee?
And you have to wonder how quickly these biometric ID cards will also become implantable microchips – so you won't lose them or leave them behind. Remember, this is an idea that Holdren proposed as a means to track access to health care among other things about the citizen/cattle of the country.
Expect widespread revolt if they make such a move.
You forget about how hospitals also pass along the costs not covered by the government when Medicare and Medicaid come to call. That's at least as significant. The Mayo clinic in Arizona (Mayo being famous for working on payment solutions with darn near anybody and everybody) has recently announced that they will no longer accept Medicare patients. Those patients must pay cash if they use the Mayo clinic. That's how badly government underfunds care, but you think it';ll be peachy when governemnt controls and underpays for it all? How many doctors will stay in business then do you think?
"guest of a teabagger?"
TMI anon, we don't need to know about your personal, private sex life.
You are living in a dream world. Go out and price individual health insurance policies compared to the costs of group coverage. In Japan, the government picks up the tab for the unemployed. I would like to see a cost estimate comparing the costs to the Japanese government for picking up the tab compared to the costs in this country for the government and the insured picking up the tab for the uninsured. I bet the Japanese system is cheaper.
I saw this interview last night just because I happened to be flipping past on my way to Chopped. Paul Ryan knows what he;s talking about and he should be publicized far more widely than he is. He also has a workable, though painful, plan to get our national debt paid off, wean people away from Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, and have our ship righted in around 50 years. It's a sensible plan that doesn't inflict too much pain on most average Americans, so it'll never happen.
They must be on the payroll for trolling the Drudge Report for the White House!!!
They tried it first with OKC, then 9/11 and now this, Schumer, Feinstein and Pelosi have been looking for a system of total control to limit liberties and cow America for years and this is it.
First, I never said the government should run health care. I simply said we should look very hard at how the Japanese do it. In their country, the employer must pay for health insurance for their employees. So, I am curious, what is your proposal. This should be good.
He certainly is a sound conservative with conservative ideas that have worked over and over in the history of America. Remember the roaring 20's? Guess what worked. Remember the 80's under Ronald Reagan guess what worked. Tax cuts and allowing people to keep more of the money they earned as it should be.
At least 36 state legislatures are considering legislation that would allow citizens to opt out of a key component of President Obama's health-care "reform" – an "individual mandate" requiring that all Americans have health insurance.
Both the House and Senate health-care bills require Americans to purchase health insurance or pay a penalty. The House bill establishes a fine based on percentage of a person's income, while the Senate version creates a penalty as a flat fee or percentage of income, whichever is higher. Those refusing to get insurance could be found guilty of a misdemeanor crime, punishable by another fine or even jail time.
I, second that motion as well.
Here is a timely reminder of the Left's concept of "Health Care Policy." A New York State Assemblyman (Felix Ortiz) has introduced to bill to prohibit the use of salt in the preparation of restaurant food !
O Brave New World that has such people in it !
Just wait. Many more equally brilliant ideas where that one came from !
what a fuckin brain dead person. Let's take all the money we need from _business_, the people that actuall have some
LoeBo huh? how's that working for you???
Insurance should work more like car insurance. Car insurance only coveres catastrophic things like accidents. It doesn't cover any of your routine maintenance or repair work.
Health insurance should be for catastrophic coverage only (things like major illnesses like cancer, sudden trauma, etc.). This lowers the probability that someone would need major payout and would also lower the cost of premiums. Incentives could be made to get people to buy in early before they would presumably be at higher risk of having those catastrophic needs paid on.
All routine care like checkups and minor exams should be paid out of pocket or with the use of an HSA in the case of things like X-Rays, new glasses, braces, etc.
Pt. 1
Supplemental insurance can help cover chronic conditions where HSAs are not enough to pick up the tab. Chronic care insurance could be bundled with catastrophic. It would make insurance more expensive for those who needed it (like myself), but we also use more of the resources making it only fair.
Government should be reduced to offering vouchers to allow low income or elderly folks to purchase their insurance/set up their HSAs rather than running Medicare and Medicaid.
Add in tort reform and competition across state lines, and prices should fall because most costs are being paid directly from consumer to provider. We can see this lowering of prices in the currently insurance free plastic surgery market. Lasik for example has gone from a $10,000 procedure to one costing only a couple thousand or less.
Pt. 2
He didn't. He's never had a real job or employed anyone. He is an aging radical hippie wanna be.
Smart people who love life DO NOT want to be in Europe if they get sick!
To get attention.
This healthcare bill is and has been all about control over the people!!!
As Beck had said awhile back, " It's not what is in the bill, It's the framework that is important!!!!
We can't give the gov more control, the more they get the more they will want!!!
They are coming at us with all kinds of crap right now, every day they are trying to strip away more of our freedoms!!! They are trying to overwhelm us thinking that we can't keep up!!!!
You are living in a dream world if you think catastrophic insurance is cheap. My company has a policy with a $4,000 deductible and 80/20 split on the next $16,000 and it is more than $1,000 per month for a family with children. Included in this cost are annual physicals because it is cheaper to catch the stuff early. According to the CBO tort reform will save at most $5 billion. This is a drop in the bucket.
The Republican proposal for health care reform has been posted on the GOP website for about 8 months now. Feel free to stay uninformed about it, though. being uninformed helps your "narrative".
Paul Ryan for president
Victor- you are the f***n brain dead idiot. Who do you think is paying for it now? Oh, I believe you must believe in free lunches. There is a hidden tax moron on society and the people with insurance. I assume you think the hospitals, out of the kindness of their heart simply write off the bills for the uninsured. You are living in a dream world. I am a business owner. I know. I have a question for you. I know it is tough, but here it is: Do you think my health insurance costs have gone up in the past 6 years: A) 0% B) 25% C) 75% D) 100%. The answer is D moron. Why do I get the feeling you are one of the ones scamming the system and not having insurance.
Next you'll be wanting single-payer car insurance. And property insurance.
It took Republicans to rid us of slavery, and Demks try like hell to bring it back again.
That sounds like a comprehensive plan to me. Besides, routine physicals would not be covered in catastrophic anymore than routine care maintenance is covered by auto. You pay those out of pocket or your HSA.
I don't know why I bothered, you are picking on one segment of the idea without adding in all the other components. Typical.
Oh and tort reform savings come when doctors stop testing you with multiple tests even though they know what you likely have. They're covering their butts to stave off lawsuit. That's where the uncounted by the CBO savings factors in. The CBO only factors in what they're given and they assume that the current world will stay "as is" during the course of calculation. If there are actually less tests ordered, then there is also less cost, but the CBO doesn't factor that in because it can't.
The uninsured ILLEGAL ALIENS, mostly. And those who CHOOSE NOT TO BUY health insurance. (Whatever happened to my right to choose? Is that only for abortion?)
From NRO
House Rules Chairwoman Louise Slaughter is prepping to help usher the healthcare overhaul through the House and potentially avoid a direct vote on the Senate overhaul bill, the chairwoman said Tuesday.
Slaughter is weighing preparing a rule that would consider the Senate bill passed once the House approves a corrections bill that would make changes to the Senate version.
Slaughter has not taken the plan to Speaker Pelosi as Democrats await CBO scores on the corrections bill. "Once the CBO gives us the score we'll spring right on it," she said. . . .
House members are concerned the Senate could fail to approve the corrections bill, making them nervous about passing the Senate bill with its much-maligned sweetheart deals for certain states.
"We're well beyond that," Pelosi said Tuesday, though she did not clarify.
The CBO is using numbers given to them by the Dems to create the outcome they want. Tort reform would lower the costs of care which in turn would lower the costs of insurance premiums.
But I see your point. What's a measly $5 billion when Obamao is spending this country into oblivion?
Leave it to a lib/progressive to know all about teabagging.
Yesterday, Islamic terrorists, living in Ireland, were arrested for plotting to kill a cartoonist.
Some years ago, I read that so many Muslims had been recruited from predominantly Muslim countries to staff the UK government health care system, that native Irish, who went back generations, were emigrating to other countries.
We here in the US need to take strong notice of that fact. Think about it.
Nice to see you, ActinUpinTexas. Hadn't seen you around these parts before.
Cowboy, those were my EXACT THOUGHTS!
If the UK government health care system is the WORLD'S 3rd largest employer, I have no doubt that the US government health care system WOULD BE THE WORLD'S LARGEST EMPLOYER…of SEIU members.
All those saying we will make the necessary changes to revert our system after the next election cycles are not realizing that, by then, there may not be enough of us!
When that number of people vote as a group (in order to protect their govt jobs) they are impossible to defeat.
Also, I have read that the UK was in desperate need of medical workers and allowed a huge influx of Muslims to fill the jobs. So much so, that native Irish, who went back generations, were emigrating to other countries.
It is accepted that we will have shortages of medical personnel, but consider what happened in the UK afterward. Yesterday, in Ireland, a “cell” of Islamic terrorists were arrested plotting the murder of a cartoonist.
The reason the progressive/lib/dems keep trying to ram this great big suppository through, is because their plans hinge on it.
A good indicator of how the country feels about this are those states (36) who have or are seeking to exempt their citizens from the federally-mandated insurance buy-in. Statism is all about control.
So we should emulate countries with no demographic future, unsustainable entitlements (including your aforementioned healthcare), stagnant economies and chronic high unemployment?
And on a brighter note, keep up the posting of more than three or four sentences, but try not to use the lame finale of "God you people are stupid", it's actually making you look like a bit of a retard (satire).
Oops! Seems someone beat me to the punch. Sorry.
Yes there is, different states have different cut off ages but by and large it's until they are no longer a full time student – as for any 20 something not in college, well just look at what is happening in MA, the 'kids' figured a way to work the system.
Really. If I remember, it was about 6 pages long and drafted by the insurance industry.
All his lil pep talks were closed to the public, whatever the hell that means. And I'm with you, I've begged for him to STFU!! I fear this will get pushed through, but the really exciting part according to piggy pelosi, we'll see what's in the bill AFTER it passes! WHAT???
he doesn't have an IQ – only stupid words.
Indeed and I just saw an article that is shocking. Check it out.
