My Massachusetts District Didn’t Learn A Thing
by Bob ParksAs many of you know, I ran for Massachusetts State Representative in the 2nd Franklin District in 2008. Miss Kim joked on Monday that maybe I ran two years too early.
Apparently not.
In the six towns that make up the 2nd Franklin, Democrat Martha Coakley beat Republican Scott Brown 6776 to 6070. It’s even more clear my home district is as dysfunctional as the black community, and my saying this is going to really irk them.

The truth hurts.
You know how your car drives; how it feels.
Let’s say you notice something feels very wrong with your car and you take it to the shop. You tell the mechanic what feels wrong and he tells you to leave it with him. He later calls, you pay him and begin to drive off, when you feel the same thing wrong with your car.
You take it back to the mechanic, tell him he didn’t fix the problem, describe the symptoms, and leave it again. You get another call later, pick up the car and when you’re driving away feel the same problem with the car.
The question is, would you ever take your car back to that mechanic again?
Blacks would, and so would the majority of voters in my home district.
In the black community (and most of the 2nd Franklin), Democrats hold almost every elected office from clerk to congressman. According to the hype, both communities should be utopias on Earth. However, both suffer from a chronic lack of economic development, questionable or outright failing schools, lackluster home sales, high foreclosure rates, and no end to that pattern in sight.
Despite what many of you may think, I’m not looking for everyone to become Republicans tomorrow. That’s quite unrealistic. But I look forward to a day of political competitiveness and accountability, because when politicians know they don’t have to produce to keep their jobs, they get lazy and don’t. I invite any of you living in either area to think of ONE meaningful thing that an entrenched Democrat has done to put one meal on your table (not including welfare or unemployment benefits).
Texas is a state that’s weathered the recession storm better than almost any other. What do they have that others don’t? A politically competitive climate. If a politician doesn’t deliver, next election the people give someone else a try.

I’ve talked to people in the 2nd Franklin who tell me their representation hasn’t done anything for them in the many terms they’ve been returned to office, yet they keep getting reelected. This is not the politicians’ fault. It’s the fault of those who refuse to hold them accountable, and both my district and the black community will not. For that, your complaining will continue to fall on deaf ears.
While the rest of the state issued a clear warning to Washington, D.C. after the special election, most of the 2nd Franklin District of Massachusetts chose continued unemployment, almost non-existent economic development, and a political class that’s been given a pass so they don’t have to work to improve anything.
As much as I love that area, you can lead a horse to water….
As I said during the campaign, “If you like the way things are, by all means, vote for the incumbent… and don’t complain.”
They did, so don’t.

yes sir i agree with you and wait all the bad mouthing about you will soon start im sure be stong which i dont i need to tell you
Mr. Parks,
I have read your articles here, and want to commend you on this one. If I were a voter in your State, and eligible to vote for you, I would. You always make sense, and tell it like it is.
Thank you.
Mon oh man you are SO TRUE !!! SO TRUE!!! I asked a black friend of mine "How voting 40 yrs Democrat got ya? I thought he was going to hav a cow…. Didn't have much of an answer for me/ I told himm exactly what you say… Where's the jobs? Where's the less crime? Where's your great house? By now after 40 yrs your neighborhood should be the model community !!!!!
It isn't, it wasn't and he knew what he was doing….
You can only help someone so long ……
"This is not the politicians’ fault. It’s the fault of those who refuse to hold them accountable, and both my district and the black community will not. For that, your complaining will continue to fall on deaf ears."
Thank you Mr. Parks for putting political correctness to the wayside in order to help explain the symptom/s that nobody likes to admit. People ,especially in communities that have less economic stability, need to start participating a little more in the decisions that get made to elect the people that are supposed to be representing them. If the people of these communities truly want to see something positive, they need to reassess their situation, educate themselves a little more than what is spoon fed to them, and make a conscious decision to want to do better. Of course i would be remiss if I was not also to include every other single community for that matter. It's just not the poor, and the lazy that need to heed this, people of all colors, creeds, and denominations must act in order to achieve a "changing of the guard" Nice article.
liberal ideology "uses" "victims" to strengthen its hold on power, all the while making them think liberal policy will take care of them. pure psycological manipulation. it is sickening.
conservative principles enable people.
liberal ones entrap them,
that was a brilliant article.
I second the opinion of "if you were in my state, I would vote for you". Sadly Mr. Parks you are not. But, to use the progressive/socialist catchphrase, I feel your pain. Being from NYC, where Demosocialist control politics, I can understand how frustrating it is. Most of the people vote Demosocialist because of the empty promises and hate mongering that these "masters" promise their slaves. Hopefully, this scare, of the complete socialism that is the hallmark of Obamaism, will wake up the people. Especially the Black and Hispanic population, which the Democrats have hypnotized with lies and revisionist history, who basically embrace conservative values, but are mislead by charlatans known has community organizers promising a better position on the "democratic/progressive" plantation.
Well said Kristine, once again…
You should start an account with IntenseDebate!
Mr. Parks if Franklin County doesnt want ya, I know a few folks in Hampden County (Chicopee) that would love to have ya. Wagner is another one of those puppets that keeps getting elected and does poop. Come on down
Thank You Bob,
I describe these situations as "Societal Hangups" I blame this on The Progressive Movement primarily. Various solutions that we have to offer, I think would appear to be very radical to the uninformed voter.. Therefore, we are always end up with a "StaleMate" situation, instead of a real win CheckMate.
Thanks for a factual report Mr Parks.
Yes, some people just cannot figure out that hitting themselves in the head with a rock might, just might, have something to do with those constant headaches they have.
I was not aware that you were running for office, but did wish you would, and would get elected. Well, keep building, and keep talking. Maybe more will catch on next time.
I'd move to your state just to vote for you ! Great calling like it is .
Truth speaks without shouting and is likely to be lost as the liars shout. But most people hear the truth; the question is when do they start to live it. Mr. Parks, I have never heard of you before, but wish I had. Fight the good fight, and even if you lose, you will help pave the way for the next generation; you are a winner in my book.
Mr Parks the real problem is that the black vote in these areas has been taken over by ACORN and the like. I would love to see each ballot in those districts for inspection. I bet you will find many times that the same person marked many ballots (just do a finger prints check on ballots ). So many get out the vote efforts are centerd in the black community to create fraud. They pick up the "by mail ballot" from peoples mailbox and just mark them for their canidate. My guess is about 30% of the votes are cast by people who didn't even know they voted! Same things go on in white communites just a lower %. Best whises to you Sir on your efforts to free the black vote!
When the "massa" doles out the checks, the serfs stay on the plantation. NO way to change this mentailty until the plantation ceases to exist. Eliminate welfare and SSI. Problem solved!
Bravo. I have often said we get the Govt. we deserve because we keep voting the same people in. I am talking about the entire bunch of them. When Politicians only pay lip service to thier stated ideals then proceed to feed themselves from the public trough it is time for the people to reassert the control that the vote gives them. Washington is broken. Conservatism can help fix this mess but only if those principles are applied. A real wake-up call is needed and not just for Democrats but for all of them. There is little evidence that the Republican Party has really gotten the message instead they are just the latest benificiary of the latest round of voter anger with the way things are done in Washington.
It is amazing how Americans can give a car example to illustrate any point of view. The author did a great job. It is important to understand how people think about their cars and especially their trucks. I don't have a truck, but I sure agree trucks are fascinating. They should start teaching American Cars and Trucks 101 at Harvard – than may be our future politicians will start understanding the folks.
We must remember the statist creed, “what’s in it for me.” These people, like many- many leftist, of every color and creed, are waiting for some of Barry’s stash, while dutifully facing towards Washington groaning “yes master.” Pitiful!
So now the President is a Populist? He’s going to fight for US? Populism is a movement made up of ordinary everyday folks….you know the kind who drive trucks. Someone tell James Carville “It’s The Elitism Stupid”
Hold On There A Minute Mr President, I drive a red Sonoma GM Pickup!

When more Black folks wake up to the fact that
they're being used by the Dems, that will help too..
It's funny Cowboy, where I'm at, when I'd ask
anyone why they vote Democrat, one answer
that came up often was, "because my Daddy
voted Democrat"…They have no clue, and most
don't follow politics as closely as these weasels
need to be watched….
Duh………………………………………………..Blacks NEVER blame blacks. Political Democrat Blacks NEVER can be held accountable ANYWHERE……………………………Blacks ALWAYS vote at 99% Democrat to "get da gubment check". Is anyone surprised here? [Newark, Canden, Detroit, Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Harare, Zimbabwe, Oakland, East St. Louis, Compton.....................GEt it?] – REV Wright
I took a sabbatical from music for a few years, during which time I was a housing inspector for FEMA and HUD. I worked in the worst neighborhoods in Memphis, Detroit, and pre-Katrina New Orleans several times, inspecting thousands of homes in those areas. So, I'm glad you're bringing this up, because the conditions in most of these majority black communities border on being third world, and because of the insanity of racial politics in the US, I as a WASP am not allowed to bring it up without being charged a racist.
In Detroit, the urban decay has been replaced with nature retaking many blocks of what used to be neighborhoods. Now, many of those neighborhoods are wild fields or even ad hoc farms! All of this under the wonderful, sensitive rule of the Democrat party. The ninth and tenth wards of New orleans were not much better, with ancient houses suffering from decades of deferred maintenance being brought to such a state of dilapidation that the owners struggled to pass even the lax HUD inspection requirements. Again, the fruits of Democrat-run programs and Democrat rule (I view HUD as a racket now, just to be clear).
It was my experiences with FEMA and HUD, which included eighteen months of processing 09/11 cases, that extinguished any remaining liberal tendencies I may have harbored.
i wish i still had the email someone sent me listing all the major cities that are major sh!tholes and how long it's been since they had a Republican mayor. in virtually all cases it goes back decades, including a few that have never had anything but Democrat leaders.
there's one quote that keeps cropping up in this discussions: The definition of insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting a different result.
And don't forget congress. According to the former first lady, "When you look at the way the House of Representatives has been run, it has been run like a plantation, and you know what I'm talking about." –Sen. Hillary Clinton
What is needed is political competitiveness and accountability, Amen to that.
If however you get a state like Texas to become economically independent then you will have the same people using class warfare to tell us Texas needs to pay “Their fair share”
Those champions of the “Needy” will never stand by and watch as other more self reliant individuals find success in their endeavors.
I am afraid your district has been absorbed into the Borg of “From each according to his ability, to each according to his need”
My ability their need.
No doubt any of them recognize their Orwellian condition.
My Daddy voted Democrat also.
That immediately told me there had to be a better alternative.
I am the first Republican in my family, going back to the Civil War. It started a family feud. Stupidity can be entrenched, and generational. It is not a phenomenon that is solely related to the black communities. Essentially, it all boils down to "mind set" and "conditioning". I have an old friend in south Texas, who still has a framed picture of FDR on his office wall, hanging next to another painting, of Jesus Christ.
FDR was a God to some. To others, he was like Moses. Rather than leading his people out of the desert into the promised land, FDR led "his people" out of the Great Depression. He had a new medium to do so: Radio. FDR electrified rural America, built the TVA, and a host of other government projects. There was an entire cult surrounding FDR.
Oh boy, can I relate to what you are saying…In my family, my
generation is primarily Republican, and that is due to
Barry Goldwater..My grandparents on my Mom's side were
immigrants from Lithuania, (my grandfather came here to get
out of the Russian Army)…They thought FDR was a savior…
My Mom owned a business in Chicago, and do you know, she
forced me to register Dem cause she was afraid the "machine"
would harrass her, by sending building inspectors, and anything
else they could do with their arsenal..It was pathetic, but true!
(My husband is originally from Houston), and he saw the same
worship of FDR growing up…His generation changed to Rep
too, pretty much for the same reason, hearing Barry Goldwater's
message..
Politics is strange, and it is local.
The old south was Democrat after the war, because Lincoln was a Republican. The industrial north was Democrat because of the Unions, as was Detroit. Chicago was Democrat because of the Dailey Machine.
Where it has changed throughout the years, currently the Republican Party is a mirror image of the democrat Party of the 60's. Republicans essentially are Democrat-light. The Democrats, on the other hand, resemble nothing that history has ever seen. It is more akin to a dope smokin', LSD eatin', Woodstock dancin, San Francisco livin' 60's-70's freak show. If one does not believe in voo-doo, I'd say look again at the Democrats, for their party is full of zombies.
Oddly enough, Martin Luther King was a Republican, and if memory serves me correctly, he was shot by a Democrat.
Sadly, how you describe the Dems is all too true…I
never thought I'd see such radicals "running the show",
I feel I've been in a year long nightmare, with 3 to
go!!…What's frightening to me, is that there are so many
still following them…Even if it's just 38%, seems like
that's too many idiots in our society……lol
Can anyone name one State or local Goverment under Black Leadership that stands out as a success?
I can not find one. I have googled and read many websites the past two years and not found a single area under Black leadership that shows any economical growth, improving schools and lower crime rates.
PLEASE someone show me I am wrong and post ANYTHING run by Blacks that has improved since the elections of 2006 when the Democrats took over BOTH the House and Senate. This has been an ALL Democrat economy since 2006. STOP blaming Bush! He has been totally out of office for over a year!
Guar-on-teed that whatever the number is that is on the public dole, sucking from the government teat, they will ALWAYS vote Democrat. To do otherwise would shut off the free stuff, and we can't expect folks to live without free stuff, can we?
This has nothing to do with color. It is not a black, white, red, brown or yellow issue. It is about parasitic leeches, sucking the blood of thier host organism (US). They only way this will end, is to start with welfare reform, and ending all the government programs.
Work, eat, or starve.
It is human nature to be afraid of the unknown. Democrats exploit this fear. They know that if they tell blacks over and over and over that conservatives are racist monsters, the fear will kick in. I don't blame these people who are afraid. I blame the people who are scaring them. Take back the schools. Take back the media.
Right on again!!…Add Immigration reform to the list too…
When my grandparent came to the USA, they had to
pass a physical, and have a sponsor, someone who
would help them out if they needed help….It's a different
ballgame now, they let anyone in whether they can support
themselves or not…No physicals, so God only knows
what diseases they bring in…How we allowed all of this
to happen is beyond me…..We have some big problems!!
As I've said for decades – You can lead a horse to water …. but you can't keep him from pissing in it.
Mr. Parks, *please* move to Florida ASAP. Our RINO governor (Charlie Crist) is running for the Senate — God willing, he will be crushed in the primary by a *real* Republican. We need someone like you to replace Crist as governor. And as an added bonus, you'll never have to shovel snow again!
Perhaps you should run again; you have Cowboy's endorsement, and with mine the sarcastic poster bloc as well. I agree 100% with his statement about your articles; I also enjoy them immensely, and if they could somehow be made available in your district, would certainly provoke discussion, debate, and change could ensue. "The longest journey begins with the first step…"
Most of what democrats do is package the peoples' demise in a way that they will pay for their own death & decay. The rest of it is sucking the life out of the people who keep trusting of them.
The dems promise welfare. The problem is, by the time the dems take their & their elites' shares, nothing is left for the people. & the victims are the poor. Whom the dems again promise more welfare, & blacks are buying it, by 90%. The other ten percent must be getting extremely annoyed by now. I am not one to judge by looks, so I will simply offer a prayer for those who do not know, may they please find the natural & infinite laws of life.
& stop buying snake oil from democrats. (& welfare degrades society, in every form)
And another thing, democrats are constantly labeling blacks as incompitent. "everybody feel sorry for black people, they are so picked on". If the democrats wanted to help blacks, they would stop belittling them. & political correctness kills life.
The infinite holds all life equally. & the judgement of us will be how highly we held life itself. I say blacks are equal, as are everyone. & let us bask in the fire of life, intead of constantly extinguishing it.
Sorry, type error. Let us bask in the fire of life, instead of constantly extinguishing it.
Hold yourselves higher, for life is infinite.
As long as the Regressives keep convincing people to vote for them over and over, despite not ever delivering on their promises, they'll stay in squalor, whether in the inner city ghettos, rural towns, or poor suburbs. Retributive regulation, high taxes, and unionized labor that adds no value to the enterprise they've infested all undermine the prosperity the Regressives claim they want for those who blindly vote for them.
"Can anyone name one State or local Goverment under Black Leadership that stands out as a success? "
This is not a white or black issue, but is instead a neo-communist democrat versus conservative freedom issue. The media won't tell us of the millions of successful black people and communities because then they would serve as a role model for how hard work, liberty and quality (versus high cost) education serves the black community better than handouts. It would undermine the Regressive's fear-based claims that despite their best efforts and hard work "the Man" will always keep them down without redistributive government policies.
Mr. Parks, hopefully the time is drawing nearer for you. You may have to take a page from our "leader's" book and go full-tilt, never-ending campaign mode and work your district for years.
I know that Brown's campaign was fueled by Americans across the nation. I'm certain you could have your own "money bomb day" as he did and keep an eye on running a clean campaign. We all know that the DNC and Coakley went nasty in the final 2 weeks. Stay positive and ask your friends here for help when the time comes.
We are all together for a common cause now.
Good article. Mr. Parks, could you agree that since the slaves of the original plantation days did not rise up and throw off the yoke of slavery themselves that the same mind set of acceptance prevails? Does the responsibility to uphold the Constitution, once again fall to someone else to open the gates to freedom or are the chains of entitlement bondage too strong to allow freedom in? It appears this is a highly successful ruse to mentally enslave. I hope I am wrong about this.
The live in Memphis, TN which has been under democratic rule for over 20 yrs and has fallen from grace… To get elected in this town is not to run until the week before the election and then cry racism … you will be a shoe-in !!!!
Then when you get in, do nothing, and blame whitey … again the crowd will back ya !!!
have fun NY with the FORDS, We have one here in prison for corruption, harold sr was in the banking postoffice scandal, ophelia ford took her brothers (prision) place and she has done zero exceot lived off my nipple …
same crap new year !!!!! and the black community puts them in everytime
I am moving my family to that district an a couple of months. You can count on our support going forward.
Go Bob Go!
I think there is a slow, inexorable trudge towards competitiveness in the black community. I think as there are more and more high profile blacks who espouse conservative views and more and more succesful men and women of color, we are winning the battle. I believe it may take another generation or two, but I do believe we will win (by win I mean make it competitve)
Mr. Parks,
Thanks for a great read. You understand one thing that most Republican politicians don't. It is vital to use the election process to educate the voter to the truth of the issues at hand, and to do so in a way that is clear and accessible to people who have no previous context with which to understand the problems and the solutions. We need to assess the problems, discover their root causes and then deliver solutions. Too often, politicians offer only bandaids for the symptoms and the cancer simply gets worse. Keep on educating people and you will be bound to develop a following. Keep your sunny side up as Reagan always did, and people will begin to look to you for answers. It's too easy to get discouraged, disenchanted and angry, but the positive forward-looking face will win the day.
Mr. Parks,
Thank you for your blunt article. Now…take that frustration…find partners and go into the 2nd Franklin District and educate the population that the Democrats are using them for their benefit. We as WE THE PEOPLE will greatly benefit from your efforts. The dream of Martin Luther King can flourish if only they were educated as to how and why their lives are no better off than their ancestors. They are slaves to the Democrat Machine and they don't even know it. Here is your chance to make a positive influence on your community. DO IT!!!!
You nay-esty.
actually all the bad mouthing is good, this way one can clearly identify who we have to go after.
"This is not the politicians’ fault. It’s the fault of those who refuse to hold them accountable…"
In other words…WAKE. UP. A great point, Mr. Parks…
Right on!
Duh….you a troll.
Be careful with "always" and "never" statements.
Likewise, call me out on it if you ever see me using "always" and "never" improperly!
There are some people that live in your district that get it, enlist there help to talk to people an help them along to understand what is happening, its the only way i can see to get people to understand what is being done to them by
OK, then………………Exactly where am I wrong? Pick a city! REV Wright
Now just replace taking your car in with going in to see the government doctor with some illness you can't quite figure out…how do you think that one is going to end?To continue the analogy, you will drive your car until it dies, without ever knowing what was wrong with it, and you will go to your universal healthcare provider until you finally die, never getting the correct help. But, hey, the healthcare was "FREE"…
We all need to tip our hats to black conservatives because they have taken the "bull by the horns" and understand that liberalism/progressives are holding them back. Black conservatives have it even harder in this society because they get hammered at both ends in this country. ……….but for the most part………they succeed in life because they "control" their own lives and future and make their own decisions, not some party hacks or Big Government. This is conservatism working. The socialist sytems and entitlements hurt everyone that is in this system, black, white, Asian, Latino. When will they wake up? It is a dog eat dog world but conservatism gives everyone their own voice to be heard and to make their own decesions without Big Brother holding something over our heads,,,,,,,,,such as entitlements!
They have been spoonfed garbage packaged as filet mignon by the Liberals for so long they have come to believe it. Unless they tune into Fox News everytime they turn on the TV they are bombarded w/ Left Leaning Propoganda where conservative views are repeatedly demonized. Hollywood Celebrities are also coconspirators w/ the Artificial Utopia Themes. In the public school systems Liberalism is glorified. For many it is easier to just go along w/ the perceived status quo like mindless robots.
Truth & knowledge are powerful weapons WE MUST DILIGENTLY & CLEARLY CONVEY OUR CONTRADICTORY BUT VERY IMPORTANT MESSAGE. CONTINUE WAKING UP THE MASSES, they are sound sleepers but many will eventually wake up. Time to replace their koolaid w/ a strong coffee.
Thanks for taking the time to include your experience, Hucbald. Enjoyed reading it!
Mr. Parks,
This young man is pure genisus!

Oh how I wish everyone could see how the Black elected officials in the Chicagoland area have improved the life of blacks folks in this part of the country.
I'm sorry folks, it ain't going to happen until Black folks start looking at themselves as individuals and we all start treating each other as individuals.
And please let's not start an argument of what came first; the chicken or the egg.
For me it was the formal eduction that I experienced that aided me in formulating my philosophy.
Obama maybe you better reconsider what you did to the charter schools in DC.
Democrats offer nothing but governmenatal DEPENDENCE to black community. That how Democrats preserve their power. True enslavement!
Thanks Strider, but accepting a job in Virginia was a tough one because of the humidity.
I'd be a real jerk in Florida with the heat and humidity you have down there.
It's a beautiful part of Massachusetts, but I only come home for vacations now.
Oh, I have as I became a publicly-outspoken conservative, produced a weekly cable access program to counter all the liberal crap, and ran for office. If anything, I hope I helped make the words "Republican" and "conservative" ones that could be said publicly with pride.
Man, I really feel your frustration. I think half of it is an education problem, 25% of it is a dependency problem and the rest of it is just plain old stubborn partisanship on the part of the electorate. It sounds to me like you've done everything possible to enlighten these people. Maybe it's time for you to vote with your feet and move somewhere where the people actually get it. Go to a different district if you don't want to leave the state. If you want to be elected to make a real difference, it sounds like this is what you're going to have to do.
A more polite and intelligent response to this gentleman for his insights would be much more appropriate.!!!
=== popurls.com === popular today…
yeah! this story has entered the popular today section on popurls.com…
Changing your voting registration from "democrat" to "republican" is JUST like re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titannic.
If you think that makes a difference, you really do not get it….
IDEOLOGY entraps. This one looks like mycological manipulation.
I am not surprised by the map. A new generation has come of age in Massachusetts, one to whom the Kennedy mistique is ancient history. The new generation wants modern day solutions to modern day problems, not a strategy of using yesterdays standards to deal with today's dilemmas.
While I agree with most of this, I don't see how this is a Democrat Vs. Republic situation. This is a 100% societal issue that is just as much a problem for Republicans as it is Democrats.
Agreed – you get the politicians you elect!
Mr. Parks, I agree with everything you have said. And I believe a big part of the solution is to do what "flappdoodle" suggests we do . . . take back the schools! The only way I see this happening is to give parents the choice of where to sent their kids to school by giving them vouchers. Right now the school districts decide where our children will go to school and who will teach them. Giving parents the power to choose will create the competition that is needed to give our children a better education in a safe learning environment.
When the day arrives that I can encounter a black citizen and not have a 90% chance of guessing correctly who they voted for, then the black community will begin to get more than just promises every two years. It's the same problem that union members have had to a lesser degree.
Think of it as "battered voter syndrome"!
Interesting that we can find the same problem in predominantly republican areas – yet it is only the democratic that must be "utopias". Let's face it, neither party has it all together. The biggest problem with this country and the political process right now is that we have a two party system where the parties are more concerned with staying in power than getting things done. Two party system doesn't allow much for compromise or pragmatism, but instead the myopic focus on extreme party philosophies.
Need we remind Mr. Parks who was in charge of the country prior to 2009? We switched to democrats because republicans drove us into the ground, remember that? Yes, the democrats helped them screw us but they weren't at the wheel. End the two party system! Vote independent! Sure, all the douchebags will eventually turn independent but at least we're making them work for something for once in their cushy lives.
Boring! Polite responces leads us to commie lib Obamas in charge. War's on! REV Wright
People vote for Democrats because they represent the "lesser of two evils". To suggest that anyone who is disenfranchised with the political policies of the Democrats should automatically vote Republican is illogical. Republicans have offered a lot of criticism, but no solutions. Over the past decade, fascist neo-conservatism has done nothing but cater to big business, violate the civil liberties of our citizens, raise taxes on everyone except the rich, submerge the country in massive debt in order to pay for their foreign policy of preemptive military aggression, and promote a religious theocracy that violates the religious freedom on which our country was founded. Americans have learned a valuable lesson during this dark chapter in our country's history: NEVER TRUST A REPUBLICAN. Democrats are not perfect, but the alternative is much, much worse.
The sad truth is that both parties aren't worth a damn because corporate America rules them. We need some replacement parties devoted to improving the lot of the common people.

Can someone tell me how death, infant mortality, education and overall important statistics in texas differ from any other state for the african american community?
This is a great article. The only thing I tend to not like is that it puts way too much emphasis on the government's and politicians' roles to change citizens' lives (many citizens put way too much emphasis on this as well).

Sadly, Silvio O. Conte's district was the biggest bastion of Coakley support. For those who can't remember, Conte served as U.S. Congressman from western Massachusetts from the 60s until he died in 1991 or so. He was a Republican and a Scott Brown type, an immigrants' son from the mean streets of Pittsfield.
His seat was held by Republicans from the Civil War until Conte died in 1991. Sadly that part of Massachusetts is not likely to ever vote Republican again. Greenfield, though is fairly conservative and Steve Adam (http://stevenadam2010.com/bio) has what it takes to finally bring that district back into GOP hands…
