Harry Reid’s comments have prompted a warning… to Republicans!
D.C. Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton is warning Republicans against trying to make hay out of Harry Reid’s comments about Barack Obama’s skin color and lack of a “Negro dialect.”
The nonvoting member of Congress said Reid’s opponents “will not find a welcome mat in the black community” if they try to seize on his remarks.
Thanks to the white washing of black history by liberal academics, the Democrat Party, and the media, Republicans don’t have a welcome mat in the black community now. Talk about a threat with no teeth….
That said, Eleanor Holmes Norton (IF she can be intellectually honest with herself) should look at all the things Democrats like Reid have done TO blacks instead of for them.
The destruction of the black family with entitlement programs, politically-endorsed mass abortion of black babies, denial of school vouchers to help black kids escape failing schools run by liberal teacher unions (sound familiar, congresswoman?), economic development broken promises, an liberal entertainment culture that discourages blacks from education and towards sports and rap are prominent things that come to mind.
The Democrat Party and Eleanor Holmes Norton are the last people to be issuing anyone warnings.

Well said Bob! The double standard is ridiculous, and I'm so sick of it. If a conservative had made Reid's moronic comments, Sharpton, Jackson, The Congressional Black Caucus and every liberal, white media elitist as well as Congressional liberals would be calling for his head for months to come. Instead since a liberal said it, he just "mis spoke", end of story. It's disappointing and unfortunately hard to see conservatives ever making inroads with minorities when everything is so blatantly slanted by the media, and so much of the public buys it.

One of the hallmarks of conservatism is that we believe in right and wrong regardless of who does it. Liberals believe is situation ethics, so it is only wrong if someone you dislike does it. This is why the double-standard has always existed. Instead of fighting it, we should embrace it as just one more factor that makes conservatism better than liberalism.

Someone should get this lady back into History classes. She seems to not grasp the fact the Republicans have been on the Black Communities side for 200 yrs. If they weren't a voting block the real Democrats would be wearing their white sheets to Congress everyday. Has anyone asked the question "If Barack Obama had been running for the Presidency, but had darker skin and a bit of a Negro dialect, would Reid still have backed him, even if he had the same experience"? I mean, it seems to me that the comment was really a backhanded way of saying that he wouldn't. I guess that is why most of us find it so appalling. For all of those who think that the conservatives are taking it out of context, I would have to ask then why the color of his skin was brought up at all. Harry Reid Said: “…light-skinned African-American” and “no negro dialect unless he wants one”
Both of these statements suggests to me that Harry Reid ideated that light-skinned was more preferable than dark-skinned, and that no negro dialect was more advantageous than having a negro dialect… if this is the case, and Harry Reid did in fact make a self-determination that “Light-skinned” is more preferable than dark-skinned, and that “no negro dialect” is more preferential than having a “negro dialect” then this would infer that characteristics specific to a particular race had been judged to be more desirable by Reid, and thus would constitute racism per se.
Reid’s (and other apologists) use his statements to refute the charge of racism, but in reality the fact that he considered these variables before deciding that these were positive attributes certainly do not preclude his views being racist, rather they suggest that he merely has a preference for one attribute over the other purely for political expediency… in short, I believe that Harry Reid does harbor racist feelings, and has made the mistake of verbalizing them.

The biggest offence I see is the revocation of School Vouchers for minority children solely to submit to the Unions who overwhelmingly got Democrats elected. The Philadelphia Inquirer did a story years ago that if Black children were given a decent education 70% of them would become financially successful and the rest would earn decent livings..Black Americans are just as intellegent and capapable of achieving anything if they were not denied a good education by the current democrat politicians, Obama included who OK'd discontinuing the Vouchers in D.C…. Black America, wake up, you have so much to contribute to OUR Country, to improve our Country based on your experiences, to make our Country the best in the world and forgiving our mistakes. About 6 years ago Costco [maybe it was Walmart?] was going to lease a large portion of land in the South Los Angeles area where a massive center was going to be built including adjoining retail spaces for other retailers. I don’t recall which city this was [Inglewood?] but it was predominantly black where unemployment was staggering and the tax revenue the city collected on an annual basis was less than the revenue of most small businesses. The city needed to be resuscitated and that’s precisely what these corporations were going to do, until, Maxine Watters and her racist cohorts demonized this corporation causing them to walk away from the project. Watters and her degenerates cheered; Inglewood and its resident however lost big-time.

Did a search on Reconstruction etc. and came up with a lot of information that clarified a lot of things… since I am a foreigner it means that I am dependent upon what I read from what could be a suspect source… however, the information that I read ties in with your comments.
The Republicans in question were the ones that I would call RINO today. They were a particular type of Republican and they were not very nice people by the sounds of things. They were ripping of the South during the Reconstruction period.
However, that does not excuse the intimidatory tactics of the Democratic Party and their use of the KKK which is well documented. The original issue was indeed about voting rights, and when the Democratic Party won back their state congresses, they moved to take those same voting rights away from those "uppity former slaves"……
