No, Texas Hasn’t Been Invaded
by Bob OwensTwitter exploded a while ago about this story, which claims that heavily-armed Los Zetas gunmen of the Gulf Cartel have taken over ranches on the U.S. side of the border.
My curiosity got the better of me, and so I called the Laredo Police Department, and had a delightful chat with the acting watch commander, Sgt. Perez.
Sgt. Perez informed me that I was her seventh caller about this claim since she came on duty this afternoon. She stipulated two things that blows holes in the invasion claim.
- The location of the alleged invasion is outside of their city-limits jurisdiction, so they would not be involved, and;
- while they would not be involved in any law enforcement response outside of their jurisdiction, they work closely with the county sheriff’s office and would know if such an event is occurring.
She also provided me the number of the Sheriff’s Department. The deputy that answered the phone there was less bemused, having also dealt with this rumor multiple times in a short amount of time. She also told me that there was no invasion and no law enforcement siege, and that deputies were continuing normal operations.
Don’t believe the hype.

Kimberly Dvorak is the blogger who I first read about the story. She blogged about it on the examiner.com site which seems to me just a pseudo news site where anyone can blog and it looks like an article, but I am not positive of that. Supposedly she claimed there was a news blackout and two police officers spoke to her upon conditions of anonymity. Which begs the question, why did these officers break ranks if this was true?
The ones pushing the story insisted that kimberly dvorak was a credible journalist because she had worked with breitbart and he considered her a credible source on the acorn story. I do not know if that is true or not, but it all started to fall apart and sound suspicious at this point to me.
I am curious if the journolist group is declaring war on Breitbart and the American people because it sure feels that way.

The "article" here was posted as a "REPLY" on the THREAD of the Big Peace sun tzu "article which claimed it was confirmed by an unnamed Laredo police dept source" and posted this afternoon at 1:20pm. Read that thread if it's still there but bottom line, it was touted as confirmed by two sources in the Laredo Police Dept. Odd since they do NOT cover Nuevo Laredo, Mexico on their beat. Most folks posted they were waiting for more confirmation on that thread.
This "article" on Big Gov by Bob Owens was actually posted on the Big Peace thread as a reply to the sun tzu story and has now morphed here as a separate story.
Don't know what's going on but it feels like games are being played. We've lost at least 2 good, regular posters here in the last few weeks over this kind of thing.
Journalistic kryptonite, walk away from this, it smells a little too convenient for me to stomach and something is definitely out whack on this story.

I have been watching this story all day and I wondered exactly the same thing. The moment that I saw a reference (in one article on Death by 1000 Papercuts) to "Breitbart" and a "credible" source that was used for the Acorn story, I couldn't help but think today's Laredo story/rumor had foul intentions for someone. Clearly, what I saw today as I sat back and watched this whole story and rumor unfold for hours on Twitter and through bits and pieces on the Internet was a strategic, deliberate action by someone – and it sure seemed like it was designed to embarrass or discredit someone. Beware!
The strategy of the Left can be clearly seen in the some of the media noise given to the NAACP/Sherrod incident. The more troubling talking points: Big Government should be shut down: Crackdown on Bloggers; Should there be a "gatekeeper" regulating internet bloggers.
Be careful…the Media/Regressive Cabal has shown just a hint of their true nature via the exposed Journolist threads. This "story" could very easily be a plant to further the goal of information control. Disinformation measures are a common tool in covert operations. Who benefits with internet control : Lame-stream media that is hemorrhaging customers and those who want to "fundamentally change" America .

That is exactly what I was thinking. I deleted my tweets and feel horribly played over this entire situation. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think something like this could ever happen, as far as a situation of being set up to fail. How on earth do you combat something as sinister as this?

Unfortunately, Texas is huge and the Laredo area is far west Texas and not easy to get to without driving 12 hours from the major metropolitan areas. It seems to me that someone knew what they were doing when they planned the location of this story.
Some people had said that Michelle Malkin and supposedly Red State had also reported the story. I did not check it myself, but there were tweets that claimed it. Some where I wish we had some kind of way to fact check these things. I do not know even where a fact check site is that is credible either.

This story has been reported the The Cypress Times newspaper of Cypress, TX. They report that they have confirmed this invasion citing unidentified members of the Laredo Police Department. Note that Cypress, Tx is a considerable distance from Laredo. It seems to me that a news organization in Laredo should be able to go to the scene and either confirm or dismiss these reports.

To PoliticalJules: You need to take a geography class. Laredo, Tx is not "far west Texas." It's actually in south east Texas and not all that far from Corpus Christi, Brownsville, San Antonio or even Houston. You could drive across the entire state in 12 hours. You must be thinking of El Paso which is in "far west Texas" and a long, long way from Laredo.

Sounds like a couple of members of the Laredo Police Dept have an agenda of their own. They remain "unnamed" but are cited all over hell and gone on the Bigs and other sites. Someone here called the Laredo Police dept, got transferred to two other local law enforcement agencies all of which DID NOT CONFIRM and in fact DENIED the story as reported.

This story may just be another internet rumor, but unless BHO begins to show some spine, it will come true sooner than later. If Mexican peons don't take our border seriously, why would we think the Los Zeta killers do? The obvious answer is they don't and why should they? They have nothing to fear, because even if we catch them, they'll just be deported unless they are caught commiting a violent crime. We have done nothing to keep them from crossing and they will when it becomes necessary or convenient. It's not a matter of "if," it just a matter of "when."

I am an staff writer for the New Patriot Journal and I have been covering this story all day. I also spoke with Sgt. Perez who did in fact deny any reports. However, I have spoken with a number of others from other agencies who will not deny it. I also have independent verification from a source inside the Laredo PD that there is in fact something going on but that it is out of the jurisdiction of the LPD.

To correct a few things, first of all, Laredo is on the southern border of Texas on the western side as the Rio Grande goes north. It is not very far, in Texas terms, from San Antonio, but quite distant from Houston, about 359 miles to be exact. Remember Texas is about 800 miles from north to south and about 816 miles from Texarkana to El Paso. So it is as big as France although we prefer it the other way around. That also means that there are some very remote ranches all along the border and some small towns with equally small police departments. I am glad if this really did not happen as it would escalate which I don't think anyone wants. But the problem is that it COULD happen. Our border is largely unprotected, we have smugglers and drug cartels operation within our borders and from what I have read recently, the police and military are often in cahoots with the drug cartels. Short of going into Mexico to clean out that vipers' nest, I don't know what the answer may be. But this repeated dithering on issues such as this are becoming characteristic of this administration. If they do not act soon, this story could become a reality.
There are some saying this story just sounds like something from a tabloid and was always too crazy to be true, but it's not. There may be sensationalistic reporting about it (mostly on Twitter where things get kind of crazy anyway) but the scenario is completely plausible. Not in the "it's an invasion!" sense, but as a criminal element taking over a remote dwelling surrounded by a lot of land in an area known for illegal activity. Hollywood would have to jazz it up to make a thriller out of it it's so possible.
This time it might not be true, but it doesn't take a huge stretch of the imagination to see that this scenario could happen in the future.
Now I want to know who started the rumor in the first place and to what purpose.
Technically Laredo is the western edge of the Rio Grande Valley. Usually folks in the region think of Laredo as the "start" of west Texas along with Abilene further north. True far west Texas would include places like Marfa, Alpine, Ft. Davis, Lajitas and Big Bend National Park. West Texas can also include Odessa and Midland along with Monahans and Pecos. It gets confusing.

Actually we are both wrong. It is far south Texas on the WESTERN (LEFT) edge. To me it is west but it is relative. You would describe it as deeply southern Texas It is still a couple of hours from anywhere close. San Antonio is about two hours away and Houston is about 6 hours away. It is about 7 hours from what us Texans consider East texas darlin which is near Louisiana.
I have not ever visited Laredo, but I have been to corpus which is not really a hub of a big city. Laredo is far because Texas is huge.

Maybe they have or have not taken over a Ranch in Texas. This does not change the fact that the Good People of Arizona have been warned by our Government to stay out of certain large areas of US Land near the Border for fear that Citizens of Mexico could or will injure or kill them.
Also, How many Americans are killed inside of the USA by Citizens of Mexico (Illegal Aliens) who are not even suppose to be in our Country on average in a single day? Does the Federal Government keep track of these numbers? If not, why? If so where do I find them?
This wasn't hard. The Cypress Times article was written on the 22nd. They quoted a warning from the Us Consulate's website…..
Problem was the only warning on the Nuevo Laredo US Consulates website was a travel warning issued July 16th.

I'm really surprised the story made it onto a Big site, but I don't think criminals taking over private property near the border is all that implausible. Still it's the kind of story you want to confirm before you run with it.

I still think the story has its basis in some fact. I believe that the los Zetas types are actually occupying 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. That's one of the few plausible explanations for Zero Man's total mishandling of what amounts to a breakdown in national security all along our southern border.

I have driven across the state btw. From Houston to El Paso (East to West) is about 12 hours which is pretty far. I have also driven from Houston to Lubbock (Northern Tx/pan handle) multiple times and that takes about nine hours which is also an eternity when you are actually doing it. The funny thing is people consider Lubbock to be West Texas which always seemed weird to me.
Never have I gone from the southern most tip of Texas (Brownsville) to the panhandle, nor do I want to, but it is about 800 miles. You are correct that El Paso is far from Laredo, about 9 hours, but with all that said I think we can both agree that Texas is pretty darn big.
Not sure why you felt the need to jump all over me about my geography, but I think your anger is misplaced.

Ummmm…..I sorta hate to have to tell you that Laredo is nearly as far South Texas as you can get. Far West Texas would be El Paso.
We Texans also tend not to think it is unfortunate that Texas is indeed huge. However, I know what you were trying to say. Once, some guy from the East Coast told a friend from Lubbock to run down to El Paso and check on something. The Lubbock fella said, "Now just wait a minute there. You don't "run down to El Paso. You get in a car and drive all day long, and if you started early enough, you might get to El Paso that evening."
As for someone's running down to check out this story, San Antonio is less than 3 hours from Laredo. However, as long as 2 years ago, even the Mexican-Americans in Laredo pretty much quit going to Nuevo Laredo based on the fact that they might never be seen alive again.

It's almost pitifully humorous that they've stuck up those signs in Arizona warning Americans not to enter public lands, because of the danger. When the authorities have been confiscating and burning entire hillsides of marijuana in our National Forests for a while now. There is so much, that they're even worried about the groundwater contamination from runoff of the fertilizers and chemicals used by the cartels.
Well, I'd read that they were pulling Border Patrol, etc. from other places and concentrating it in a few spots. The articles I read intimated that the feds were, in their opinion, planning to create a situation that would make Arizona look bad.

If the story turns out to be true, I will not apologize for my caution…nor will I feel as if I have "egg all over my face." If the story proves true, I will congratulate the bloggers who scooped the story.

As to your larger point, I agree. It's long been a peeve of mine with the Bigs that people can post actual 'articles' under names like "Sun Tzu" and "Charlie's Cat" (whatever…). It's one of the reasons I use my name when I comment, when I'd really rather comment under the name "Darth Invictus".

The border between Arizona and Mexico is just false and misleading information spread by conservative web sites.
All members of the elite government class, including the official in Wisconsin, know the truth.
Arizona is several states away from the border and these conservative blog sites are just editing the video to remove those other states and perpetuate the lie that Arizona has a border with Mexico.
Besides, the illegal alien invasion, just like unemployment, evictions of families from their own homes and massive increases in unemployment would have been much worse if Obama had not taken power in Washington DC, Biden said so.

These stories are "opposite" in their conclusion yet cited common sources, giving the whole episode the appearance of a journalistic circle jerk..
Then
On the Big Gov version read Copperpeony's reply and all the replies to her post. Looks like most folks on both sites did a good job, as good as they were able, not being journalists, ferreting out the SOURCE of the story, searching for hard facts, and reserving judgment until the facts could be verified by a credible source, not a twitter, open blog, or "unnamed" source.
As for my remark about us "losing" two good posters here recently over stuff like this….they LEFT. I'm not aware any posters on the Bigs have been kicked off. Never seen that happen. One left stating the lack of newsworthy stories, the other over the Sherrod video.
And I don't know what I mean. I just don't like what's happening. No blame, just unanswered questions and a sense that something is not right. Whether this episode was just an innocent short staff day "snaffu" or sucker bait from an outside group remains to be determined.
One thing I do know…news confirmed by unnamed sources, backed by confirmation from more unnamed sources and then contradicted by those same unnamed sources, is not news. I don't know what it is, but it isn't news.
