Rep. Phil Hare Threatens Constituents Who Point Out He Isn’t a Veteran

Phil Hare (D-Ill.) is back in the news two months after he was caught on video, saying, “I don’t care about the Constitution.” This time, however, he’s drawn the ire of a military veteran who wants the two-term congressman from Illinois’ 17th Congressional District to stop calling himself a veteran.
In a letter to Blake Chisam, Ken Moffet informs the chief counsel and staff director of the House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct of an incident during which he asked Congressman Hare if he was going to stop telling people that he was a veteran:
On Monday, May 31, 2001, Mr. Hare and I were engaged in a conversation concerning the statements he is making around the district about being a veteran. After I pointed out that according to the law he is not a veteran, he became very upset and demanded to know my name. I refused to tell him my name, saying that this was about his claim of being a veteran and not about me.
Mr. Hare then told one of his aids who was with him, to follow me to my car and get my license plate number so he could find out who I was. I have since been told that Mr. Hare’s daughter works for the DMV.
I then asked Mr. Hare if he was going to stop telling people that he was a veteran. Mr. Hare again demanded to know my name, and again told his aide to get my name or to follow me to get my license plate number so he could find out who I was, so he could tell all the former reservist what I said.
I asked Mr. Hare if he as a public official was going to use his official office to run name checks on private citizens, in order to intimidate them into not asking questions he did not want to answer.
As Mr. Hare was turning to walk away form me he paused, and turning back to my direction, he glared at me intently, and while leaning forward pointed his finger at me, and in a threatening and intimidating manner said, “I’ll find out who you are!” Given the nature of Illinois politics and Mr. Hare’s reputation as a mean politician, I felt intimidated by the power of Mr. Hare’s office and what he might do.
The Moline, Ill., resident goes on to explain that Hare became enraged upon learning that, under the law, he doesn’t qualify as a veteran, but I’ll leave it to you to read the rest of the letter. It’s a juicy one!
Meanwhile, the world waits to see whether or not Congressman Hare continues to claim he is a veteran and, if he does, whether or not Chisam will recommend the House take any action against him for it.

Hare is perfect example of what's wrong with Politics today.
One has to imagine the blood pressure cuff on Rep. Hare was indicating dangerous levels. How dare a constituent challenge the integrity of an ELECTED official. This is what we have allowed. Time to change the employee pool. Put him in the street, and find someone with common sense, integrity, and good judgment to fill the seat. Of course only after fumigation.

With the financial problems of Illinois, I wonder if they even know there is NO money for free stuff this time around, though I am sure Illinois will be forced to find funds for whatever the unions demand, even if it means the funds are taken away from those who truly need them like those with true illness and disabilities.
I hope his letter gets posted at every VFW and that all chapters send a letter to Congress demanding action!

Folks, this is a living, breathing, walking, talking demonstration of what our collective apathy has brought us over the past 20-30 years. The fact that we decided that we would not take part in the political process has allowed those in office to "evolve" into a separate and (they think) distinct political caste, above the little people that they are supposed to serve. Hare's arrogance speaks volumes, "I am big and you are small and I will squash you like a bug if I have to." I used to be a huge advocate for term limits, even working for an amendment to the Constitution, now, I realize that IF the people were slightly less stupid and more engaged in the process of governance, that that would be unnecessary. They (the people) would vote competent, honest, and capable people into office and remove those that aren't. Time to read, learn, participate, and take back America folks! The good people of IL can do their part by sending this clown packing in November! The country you save will be YOURS.
I hope these people never understand what is coming at them like a freight train until it is to late. I see the unconcerned look on their faces concerning November's election and I'm a little worried about that. I think they know Conservatives have a great chance to make the 1994 take over of Congress look like a hiccup compared to the sweeps we could have this November.
What do they keep saying about the cover-up being worse than the crime? People might have bought it if he claimed it was just a misunderstanding of a technicality. Just like (I like to think) most people brushed it off when confronted with the "scandal" that Joe the Plumber wasn't technically a plumber. But threatening a private citizen? Did he really imagine that would make the question go away?

This Congressman is a pathetic sack of you know what. I have watched him before on the issue of the Constitution and could tell very quickly that he is a man possessed with power. It doesn't surprise me one bit that he is doing what is claimed as it would be consistent with his arrogance displayed in previous settings.
I hope that the Ethics Committee will sensor him, or better yet that the FBI finds criminal activity and puts this clown behind bars. But realistically I doubt either will happen. The Congress of the USA has become a cesspool of greedy self-serving political hacks.
Another question I would pose would be……………..why in the hell we are paying to have these thugs carry around an entourage of goons. Are there positions so intense and they have such a work overload that they have to have drivers, body guard thugs and the like. The Founding of our country was a miracle by God and He blessed the efforts to bring about our great nation. I think that God is able to perform such a miracle again. I think that the video of Hare saying he doesn't care about the constitution should be enough to oust him from office in this election cycle, but it would be sweet if he were ousted for ethics violations before the election. His being elected is another example of how voters need to educate themselves on the candidates for office rather than voting based on recommendations or referrals. This moron is not EVEN worthy to wear the name Representative. I ride with many veterans who would kick his FAT ass the moment he would claim veteran status. I applaud Mr. Moffet and encourage him to continue pressing the House Committee of Standards of Official Conduct to force them into investigating Hare on his false claims of veteran status and open threats of harassment. Yeah I think the level of "falling away" has been gradually increasing in the last 50 years. Much of Daniel Ezekial, and Rev. were preached citing the directioin of the times back in the 70's too. No doubt, it does span many years and the warnings of the consequences of the direction being taken today are easily forgotten during even a generation. That's why we need to keep speaking up and telling the young people who have the ears to hear and learn.

The independent field of candididates, at least here in AZ, is FULL of real, ex-service men and women. They put in at least one tour, many are war vets, and all are really fine people. I hold high hopes that many will be elected defeating sleazeballs like Grijalva.

Can NON military folks do this or is the Military not comfortable with that? It's daunting for civilians to even try to fathom the "form" or paperwork to request such information and I wonder if the Military is allowed to release it to civilians without some sort of legal need to know.
That said, certainly active duty and retired Military folks can and should start down the list and check them ALL. I'm really sick of politicians claiming service they did not perform. Chances are if they really DID serve, someone would remember them and their tour of duty, eh?

Daley) for mayor several times.

We as parents need to take the bull by the horns and teach our children how to think for themselves. It will be difficult with how they are using the school system to indoctrinate our children but we as parents are bound by our choice to have children to raise them so that they can survive in the world as we know it today.
