Explosives Theft Qualifies As Near-Miss for USA
by Bob McCartyImagine tons of explosives being stolen in Mexico and then transported by truck across the border into the United States. Could it happen? Over the weekend, it did. Almost.
On Friday, according to an article in the Latin American Herald Tribune, 18 tons of industrial explosives were stolen from a cargo container during a robbery along the Monterrey-Saltillo Highway in the northern Mexico state of Nuevo Leon. According to subsequent reports, Mexican officials located and recovered the stolen explosives within hours. The thieves, however, remain at large.
But should Americans rest easy now? Not after this near-miss event.
According to officials with the Mexican industry association, Canacar, thefts from cargo trucks on Mexico’s highways increased 40 percent last year.
North of the border, officials with the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association are calling upon the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative to immediately challenge the legality of the tariffs implemented one year ago by Mexico so that the debate regarding cross-border trucking with Mexico can be shifted from economics to highway safety and security.
In a news release Tuesday, OOIDA officials said Mexico has yet to fully address numerous other issues related to homeland security, criminal activity and its trucking industry.
“Too many safety and security issues have yet to be resolved. Those issues certainly haven’t improved in the past year,” said Todd Spencer, executive vice president of the 156,000-member OOIDA. “This is what officials from Mexico should be focused on, and our U.S. trade rep should not be bashful about telling it exactly that way.”

The military is already paid to protect the country, and are sworn to defend the Constitution. Do border guards have to swear to defend the Constitution?

The fifth column of Islamic terrorists infitrating the US from Mexico is HUGE. Easy to get a visa from any of the sponsor states to enter Mexico, our intel guys watch them deplane and follow their activities.
Only problem is the number. They are coming in torrents. Plug into an Islamic community and await further instruction. With an Islamicist administration in place little heat is being placed upon them.

There is a solution, but nobody will touch it. Nobody will go near it.
If the people living on our side of the border, started stacking the illegals up like cordwood, the problem would cease within a week. Whether the number of bodies would be one hundred, or a thousand, or five thousand, it would not take long for the message get back to Mexico, and the Middle East, that those thinking of entering the US illegally, would be ill advised to do so. Desperate times call for desperate measures. It might even stimulate the border economy to start an official "season".
Sound draconian? The liberals would gasp in horror. But my solution is a solution. Putting jugs of water and shade shelters in the desert, to provide aid and comfort to the enemy, is no solution………
Ah, the benefits of "Free Trade." Forget Mexico – how about a million uninspected containers from China or elsewhere. Forget explosives, how about diseases and invasive species? Or you guy's favorite boogeyman – "terrorists."

We can effectively seal the border if we wanted to. Its been proven, in certain stretches. I've never understood why such a large proportion of Hispanics, seem to support illegal immigration. I mean, what other immigrant groups do you hear where their leadership either turns a blind eye to such an enormous and costly problem or worse, openly say they support illegal immigration, then campaigns for amnesty, which we all know would be a huge cost burden, particularly at a time of record unemployment? I've always found this double standard strange, between different immigrant groups, and wonder why so many politicians don't take up that argument. We currently have 10 million workers unemployed. The actual number is probably closer to 18 million. At the same time, illegals hold between 4-5 million jobs. I've recently read that illegals are flooding the southeast, not that it hasn't been going on for a while. That is setting up clashes with native-born workers, as more come in seeking work and more Americans fall out of work. My point is this is setting up a direct competition at the worst possible time.

The need for migrant workers is largely overblown. Their cost is never calculated – that is because it is foisted on the faceless citizens while the profits are enjoyed by the greedy corporate farmers.

China figured it out hundreds of years ago. Their version was called the Great Wall.
The simplified version here was the fence. I have built enough fence to know that the governments version was nothing but a touchey, feely, warm and fuzzie feel good pork barrell project, with graft going to political districts all along the border. It is an unmitigated joke. One good ranch fencing contractor from Montana or Texas, could have built a fence across our entire southern border, at 25% of the cost of the few miles of fence we have now.
I could have built, and fenced the entire southern border, and it would have been impenetrable, with guard towers every quarter mile.

Looking at the comments, I can't believe how many people agree with this guy. I thought conservative, small government types were in favor of free trade. I certainly am. Just an FYI, the OOIDA is the truckers' union who is doing everything they can (including trying to scare the crap out of us) to keep competition out. Several years ago, we agreed to let trucks from both countries operate on both sides of the border. Pres. Bush tried to fix the problem by implementing a pilot program to let Mexican trucks in, but Obama killed the program. So Mexico, completely legally, imposed tariffs on many U.S. goods. So right now we are hurting many U.S. industries and the American consumer by protecting a small number of truckers. Mexico buys more U.S. produced goods than any country in the world other than Canada, $129 billion in 2009 alone even with the recession (almost double what China bought, who is number three). You want to jeopardize that to protect a few truckers?
The Posse Comituatus Act generally prohibits federal military personnel as well as units of the National Guard from acting in a law enforcement capacity within the United States, except where specifically authorized by Congress.
Since the Congress is democratically controlled and they see the arrival of new illegals as potential voters, there will be no use of the military to stop invaders.
The idea is to look like they're doing something but not actually stem the flow of future potential liberal voters.
Both parties are equally to blame for attempting to pass amnesty and grant illegals citizenship in the hopes that they will all vote for the party that gets them amnesty first.

The Posse Comitatus Act is only intended to prohibit the Federal Government from using the military as a police force, or from acting in a law enforcement capacity at the State level only . However, the Coast Guard is exempt from it, and the POTUS, using the Insurrection Act, can deploy military troops (like during the '92 LA riots) as well.
The point I was trying to make was, we are at war, and one of the actual jobs of the Federal Government is to provide national defense, and to protect our borders. I don't think there is really any excuse for us to not have troops securing our border. At least until we are in "peace time" again. There are a slew of 'Acts' that a POTUS could utilize to start shoring up our porous borders, but none have seem to have any interest in that…LOL

to undergo vigorous inspection, & be certified to operate north of the border. As is par for the course
in Mx they were able to buy the certification, without the inspection. Who's surprised? Also their ins-
urance documents were mostly fake. Neither do they understand the reason for our legal set-up,

that you are just pi$$in' into the wind. We have long time business relationships with quite a few Txz
truckers, & they tell us for some mysterious reason the Mx trucks are never pulled over by the Tx DoT
for inspection. I think it was because the DoT boys knew if they ever started inspecting one, from
the paperwork to the mechanical inspection it was going to be a nightmare, 8 hour job, with another
8 hours of paperwork. If they red-tag it, it can't be moved until the issues are resolved, therefor some
would just abandon the truck, load & all. Bureaucratic nightmare, anyone?

Funny how people always say that the illegals are being taken advantage of by being paid slave wages, or otherwise way below minimum wage. I'm sure some are, but my experience in California on many a construction site showed otherwise, many, if not all, were union members. Now I live in NC, and in the last 9 or 10 months there has been an influx of illegals from mainly out west, interestingly they drive very nice, late model pick ups or mini-vans. Also interesting is how they immediately have jobs once they get here, and yet many men here can't find squat.

There are so many Mexican trucks headed north on I-35, driving it can get scary sometimes.
Also, there is evidence that those trucks, in addition to hauling contraband often have a lot of safety issues. Of course, on THIS side of the border, we have to pay to have our vehicles carefully inspected to ensure they are road-worthy.
Yup Dhassel, you have a good point. Believe it or not we actually have FBI guys working in China, Japan and all the world trying to keep an eye on shipping containers all over the place. I had never heard of that, but an agent came to a class I was in last fall and we have alot of agents working worldwide and in Mexico. They were recruiting kids for the Bureau, we had all the "alphabets" in there, FBI, ATF, Secret Service everybody.

I live in a fence/wall city – El Paso, Texas. Buttressing the walls are lots of agents. That wall is stout and a guy with a tin snips isn't getting through. There is an improvement since I was a teenager growing up on the border, it takes alot more planning and criminal intent to cross over.
That said It's still a BIG PROBLEM – I want zero tolerance and zero (or as close to as possible) illegal entry. I remember when I could literally walk across the river if I wanted to, and vis versa. Of course – I never wanted to walk into Mexico!

If you park a late model Ford F-250 anywhere near I-35 all the way from Austin to Mexico, it just might not be there when you start looking for it. The Mexicans are using them to haul drugs and people, and they have been stealing them left and right.
The cops say the thieves have worked out a method to easily gain entry. Sometimes they break off the ignition apparatus, and just move on to the next one.
This happened to someone I know 2 weeks ago. They broke into/stole 6 of them from just one business' employee parking lot. The ones they couldn't start, they were in such a hurry that they didn't even steal folded cash, GPS systems, Blackberries, and computers in the cabs. Cops said when the employees leave work for the day, the trucks are already in Mexico or danged close.

Well, I can tell you this, Sim9. A relative had a co-worker who broke company rules and drove a service truck across the border from Laredo to do a job. Both guys who crossed the border were fired. The company did not have adequate insurance coverage for theft of the truck and tools, accident, etc.

The border needs to be shut down, but not for immigration reasons. For security reasons. The largest Iranian embassy in the world is located in Mexico City (500+ employees). It is common knowledge that wheneven Iran establishes an embassy or diplomatic relations within a nation, Hizballah is not far behind. Latin America is currently being flooded with Iranians immigrating through Venezuela. Iran is aligned with and is financially backing Hugo Chavez's Bolivarian Marxist takeover of LATAM. Iran is also currently placing itself in every country that falls to this movement. Along with Hizballah. Mosques then go up and they start trying to convert and radicalize the locals. Nicaragua is the closest country to fall. They tried to take Honduras last year, but failed (God Bless that nation). Iran would love nothing more than to be able to exert the kind of influence on the U.S. border that they have in Nicaragua, Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador…Not to mention, easy access to attack us if it suits their purposes.

Our Progressive brothers here in America have been only allowing citizenship to foreigners who are likely to follow the Marxist agenda! This has been going on well over 100 years! Remember, we the people "knowingly" voted for an Islam trained and educated black Kenyan man to be President of America! He is surprising no one who is smarter that a first grader! You rationalize, I can't! This couldn't have happened any other time in American history! Think about it! They have been teaching Marxism in our schools over 100 years too! It's not even hard to do. Just follow what well published Socio-Environmental Dr. Julian Rodder of UCONN had said, by only allowing "External" Personality Types in America and not "Internal" types, the kind that this Republic was founded upon! As far as Azlan repatriotation to Mx, I believe it will be reversed. We will end up colonizing the north-
ern most sections of Mx, especially if the US economy takes a dramatic hit, & eventually the border will
dissolve or North states of Mx will wind up part of Txz. It will be a slow process, playing out over decades.
Most of the illegals coming here just want a job, a temporary job. They usually don't want to put down
roots, or do the necessary work to become US citizens. Due to Mexicos different culture, they find all the
bureaucracy to be nightmarish & ridiculous. Most don't even want to be US citizens, they just want a job
for a few months, after which they can go back home to live decently for a year or so on what they made.
Liberals began pushing US citizenship on them, in the 60's, after seeing how poorly some of them
lived, while they were working here. Problem was, it was probably real comparable with their living
conditions in Mx. But the do-gooders had to try to fix it, thus began showering them with free stuff. With
the realization of all the free stuff, they began to bring their wives & children, & the Liberals, thinking them
abusive to raise their children in poverty, wanted to give them more free stuff. To get the free stuff, so what
if they had to sign the papers claiming to want citizenship, this was the system to get the free stuff. It was
the process, so they complied. I believe this is confirmed, by the lack of follow-through exhibited by the
people who were eligible for the 1980 amnesty. It was like pulling teeth to get them to do their paper-
work. Most of them actually didn't care, or didn't want US citizenship, they just wanted a job. Leave me
alone & let me work, so I can save my money & go home. Most US born Anglo liberals believe it is their
job to save the world, therefore are/were only trying to do good. Most US born Anglo conservatives believe
in the privilege of US citizenship, but poorer economic classes of Americans resented the Hell out of all
the free stuff, so the system was slowly opened up to them. More affluent conservatives saw all the free
stuff being given away, each decade growing exponentially, & being conservative with their own finances
thought WTF are we creating here, this will lead to problems in the future. Neither group can understand,
the average Mexican illegal alien , does not want to be a citizen of the US. They just want a damn job.
I reached these beliefs after having grown up, & spending my life in a small farming town in Txz, where
I have known & worked with many hard-working Hispanics, for decades. Many of them, who have become
US citizens, are moving back to Mx, when they reach retirement age. We'll see if they stay, only time will
tell……………………………May the attacks begin!

It is not OOIDA's function to care about security. They want to keep Mexican Trucks out of the US. There are lots of Moslems in Canada. Very Few moslems in Mexico. The guy who wanted to blow up the LA Airport tried to sneak in from Canada. Nobody is squacking about Canadian Trucks. Mexican trailers come in all the time. Mexican diver drops off the trailer near the border and US driver picks it up. Customs will not be any different. Inspection no different. This is a ruse. America is about freedom — including economic freedom. Think of that the next time you enjoy a winter salad. with tomatoes from Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico. Most Mexican Americans in Texas self identify as conservative. Anchor Baby comments are BS. Guess what, lots of guys named Rodriguez and Martinez are fighting in Afghanistan. How do you think your anti immigrant comments would make them feel. It is OK to have an opinion, but rounding up immigrants is creepy.

As I posted further down, we need to start arresting the head honchos and ensuring THEY do a minimum of 6 months in the slammer if they are employing illegals. That would do more to stop illegals being employed in the U.S. than most anything else. I guarantee that.
Let the Trucks in if they adhere to border inspections. The OOIDA is protecting their members from Mexican Competition. They were not formed to comment on security, nor are they qualified. They were formed to influence govt policy in a way that benefits their members. This is protectionism. Many of their members drive Volvo trucks, made in Sweden. Where does it begin, where does it end. Keep govt out of the Economy.

The muslims own public school systems in minnesota, (and elsewhere) and have large remote compounds in upstate new york, No one talks about it, the story always gets buried. Maybe Breitbart can expose this.
You see, that's the problem. Immigration is leading the conversation. Once you point out the facts and and the real reason we need to shut the border…illegal immigration advocates lose the argument. I'm not going to waste my time discussing whether or not illegal immigrants should get residency. That's NOT the issue. We have recognized terrorist organizations and state sponsors of terrorism attempting to radicalize people in Latin America. We have Iran helping to spread Marxism. And we have a state sponsor of terrorism attempting to set up a platform from which it can attack western interests in LATAM and here at home.
The issue is NOT immigration. Unfortunately, once you start arguing those points, they've won. Because they've made it the issue. People need to stop recognizing this as a legitimate issue in regards to border security. No other government regards it as such, nor should we.
