But this week — in true turnabout-is-fair-play style — someone put up an inflatable rat outside the National Labor Relations Board hearing where Obama appointees are attempting to neuter real union organizing elections.
Well, that set off union activist and writer Mike Elk. He’s getting angry, and you wouldn’t like him when he’s angry. He views those who differ with him as “scabs” and says:

Ah, yes, the nonviolent union movement and its morally weighty “bigger” questions. It’s almost like they have a manual for intimidation.

Man, oh, man!
This harkens back to the time I was harrassed about joining a union, even though it was a summer job, and I would be leaving to go back to college within two weeks. The union steward told me that my car windshield might get broken if I didn't join. I responded by telling him what I would do to him if my car was damaged, in any manner whatever.
He began whining, "It wouldn't be me who did it, anyhow. There's no need to make threats," to which I responded, "I don't mind taking revenge on the wrong person. Besides, when I'm done, you can pass it along to the one who really had it coming, if you like."
You gotta meet fire with fire. Didn't our peerless leader advise to bring guns when the other side brings knives? The union left me the hell alone for my final two weeks of employment. Imagine that!
A giant inflatable locust would be more appropriate. Locusts decimate everything and then move on to decimate their next greener pastures.
I'm glad that "scabs" are getting to the union thugs. They deserve all the grief that they get and then some.

You know it's funny, every time I've had a run in with a union goon they're not so quick to get "violent". I guess it's because they're typical bully cowards. They only pick on those smaller than them. Scum is what I call a union thug. Any union thugs out there, I'd love to talk to you face to face – cowards.
Unions so serve a purpose … and that is to protect and keep employed those with lower intelligence and the losers of the world that can't seem go through a day with out getting intoxicated. So essentially they protect morons and losers who can't make it on their own.
Back in 2008 I saw some union guys standing near the curb outside a business down the street from where I work, and they had one of those giant inflatable rats up. I thought to myself, "Good! I hope that business doesn't cave to these @ssholes."
If I had a violent streak in me like this Elk jerk does, I would've run my SUV up onto the curb and flattened that giant rat as a hapless "accident".

This tool is sublimating his subconscious awareness of his total lack of self-worth compared to genuine, honest workers, whom he therefore calls "scabs" and imagines violence against. After all, as a union official he is BY DEFINITION a worthless, lazy deadbeat and resents honest workers.
I went through a very similar situation at a factory that made plastic gas tanks for GM. Just a summer job. They were in the middle of voting for or against joining the UAW. I wasn't interested because I would be gone in a couple weeks.
A guy got me in the break room and told me to vote for the union. I was just a kid and didn't care either way but I hated being told to do anything. I said I didn't feel like it. He said accidents happen.
I responded, "To anyone" with a wink…..No one ever asked me to vote again and I finished my gig without any accidents.
Ah yes! My husband's car was keyed several times by union members when he was in middle management, and he was frequently threatened.

I told the plant manager about the exchange and all he could say was to park my car in a different lot. I got a lot of dirty looks the next couple weeks….
I found out later that the vote to join the UAW passed, know what happened to the plant? Closed down and half the work went to another plant in Indiana, the other half to Mexico. So good job idiots! Now you have NO job!
While at 'ye old American motorcycle company' as a laboratory engineer in the 1970's we had a lot of mechanical test setups to perform, a union responsibility. As we had to share the workers with other departments, we salaried types reached a agreement privately with a couple of 'often assigned union workers' to work along side them. We agreed the union workers would act surprised and write us up if the steward came in and caught us. Lucky I never got caught. Then the company laid off union types with less than 20 years seniority. Our lab got the old union slugs 'retired on the job' who would not do anything. Productivity dropped, timing estimates lengthened, and the old slugs laughed at their now laid off union brethren. So much for productive union solidarity. I vowed to NEVER work in a union shop again and never did.
There's a fine line between freedom to assemble and organized crime.
They can assemble but they need to be stopped from intimidating free Americans. This applies also to elections.

Perhaps he needs to realize that those who are against unions have no qualms about taking him up on his violent urges and showing how violent they can get as well.
Was this during the time when AMF owned Harley? They tried to destroy that company until finally proud Harley owners/investors/employees bought them out. Back then it was true, the old saying if you owned a Harley you had better invest in a toolbox. Drive it an hour and work on it an hour — great fun! Much better machine today, but one better bring a few extra C-notes.

I remember being coerced with higher wages and a better position (apprentice liquor clerk, yeah!) if I would join the grocery clerks union. so I did, even though it was a summer, Easter, and xmas break job at the time, though they pushed me to drop out and stay, which I of course, did NOT. So as Easter break comes and I report for duty, I'm handed a protest sign and told to picket all shift long with regular breaks for $1/hr. this went on through the break, so I missed out on any real cash, so I quit, never to return. Eff the unions, especially the conflict-of-interest public ones. BTW – stayed in school, got my Bachelors while TA-ing and grading papers for more cash than the grocery store gig.

Had a similar experience back in 1965 when I had a summer job and had to join a union (Garment Workers). I was naive and there were no threats, but I knew it was stupid since I was going to college a few weeks later. I just made up for my union dues paid by consuming an appropriate amount of beer at the union picnic.

In my opinion, most folks are apt to walk away from any potential physical altercations. They have more important considerations that keep them level-headed…..of course, there will be the occasional "won't take no sh!t" individual that will introduce these goons to an old fashioned ass-whippin but overall, most will walk away knowing that the evidence will be clear who the thugs, bullies, racists and bigots are out of the bunch…..especially with video all over the place…..

Of course it failed 100% in as few as 100 miles, cracking around the bearing support.
AMF was not THAT bad, they did buy us our 1st Spectral Dynamics / SDRC FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) for vibration and modal analysis, and a lot of servo-hydraulics from MTS. Basic equipment for a modern engineer. They were behind the times, and it took a while to catch up.
One Kudo I DO have for the Unions was MANY of the workers determination to fix the product. We set up Quality Teams comprised of salary and union types to follow Deming's principles, that resulted in warranty costs plummeting from $680 per vehicle in 1978 to $65 per vehicle in 1982. As is out here – weather moves in opposite directions simultaneously – thus it was with the union – some very good things mixed with some very bad things. I was never harassed personally but when I sold floor covering to building contractors I had a meeting that was canceled because union scumbags showed up at a condo complex that was under construction and kicked holes in all the drywall that had just been installed because the builder did not hire union deadbeats. I walked through a few of the units and saw what was done. Not much was left undamaged. The cost of the damage I witnessed was easily $8,000.00 and that was only three units out of about 30. Great productive members of society making their contribution.
Nowadays you call a flash mob, everyone surrounds the thing and one or two people have boxcutters. Shame that the union guys have to pay for damages to the inflatable.
So very true — and the worst places in the world for workers and workers' rights? The socialist / communist paradise nations which, unlike China, have instituted no market reforms — countries like N. Korea and Laos, Cuba and Venezuela, to name a few.
Funny how the unions cry out for collectivism here, but the most oppressed workers live in collectivist countries. We must fight to reverse the slide toward that grim reality. Centrally-planned governments care nothing for the individual. China was known for putting a bullet in the head of an errant or less than industrious worker — no legal proceedings whatever, just a summary execution.
